4500 R+E with sup 8 vs. (3850 stack + 5508 WLC)

I got into discussion about upgrade our 3750 stack, 4404 WLC, less than 50 APs (APs spread out over MPLS WAN). I'm planning to get 4510 R+ E with 2 sup 8, but another opinion talked me down to 3850 stack with 5508 WLC. Basically, his argument is 3850 stack can do everything 4500 R+E can do, plus it's not hulky as 4500. My argument is I like unify access since sup 8 built in WLC and we don't have to get 5508. I know there're more 4500 R+E and respect his argument. Does anyone has input on these setup giving pricing is not much different between setup.
Thanks
Kevin

In my honest opinion, if you are posted this solution here, you are smelling something is off.  I hate to be a bearer of bad news.  It is.
We went through the same exercise 2 years ago.  We wanted to upgrade our legacy 3750/3750G to 3750X and we found out that if we were to get a stack of four (or more ) 3750X, it is cheaper (much, much cheaper) to get a 4510R+E bundle (with Sup7E included) and associated line cards on top.  Just to note, the 3750X and 3850 have the same price.  The Sup7E and Sup8E have the same price.
Don't ask me why your consultant wanted you to get 3850.  I am refraining myself putting two theories in here.

  • Cisco 4500 Chessis Switch with sup 7l-e supports VSS for long distance upto 40 Km

    Hello Team,
hope you will find this massage in good health and spirit.
As per my understanding, Cisco 4507R+E with Sup-7L-E will supports VSS for long distance upto 40 Km, i have a scenario that there are two Data Centre of a Company at different graphical location (distance is 2 Km), both have separate network devices but distributed servers connectivity and all servers accessed from both location (some servers are placed in location 1 and some servers are at location 2), both location has separate ISPs link with segregation of internet connectivity (some users using internet from ISP-1 and other are using ISP-2), Core Switches of both location connected to each other via fiber (company fiber not ISP), at this moment Core Switches are configured with multi-group HSRP and next upgrade to VSS.
My concern is if Virtual Switch link (VSL) goes down (which will configure on company fiber link) what is the behavior of Switches, both are in Master mode and working standalone or behavior are different, please confirm and suggest for better.

  • Problem with registering device in Sybase Control Center with SUP 2.2 SP04

    Hi,
I have Sybase Unwired Platform SP04, and I am trying to register my Android device in Sybase Control Center. I registered application connection with HWC as a template. I also installed 2 Sybase apps from Google Play Store on my Android device - Sybase Hybrid Web Container and Sybase Mobile Workflow 2.1. When I tried connecting to Sybase Control Center from my Android device using Sybase Mobile Workflow 2.1, there were no log updates at all. I entered IP address of my computer where I installed SUP   as server name. It seemed like Sybase Mobile Workflow 2.1 did not work at all on my Android device.  However, there are some log messages when I try to connect to SCC through Sybase Hybrid Web Container - "Engine Startup", "Queued Settings Request", "Communication Error".
I was able to successfully register my Android Emulator on SCC using Hybrid Web Container app and test my hybrid web app. What could be the reason for not being able to register a real device on SCC? Is this the wrong Sybase app used on the device? Or some kind of network issue? Both my android device and my computer are connected to the same home WiFi network and have 192.168.x.y IP addresses, which are local IP addresses accordng to my knowledge.
I was told that if I am unable to open SCC on the device by typing https://<IP_address>:8283/scc in a browser, then my device won't be able to access SCC. And, in fact, my Android device cannot open SCC in its browser, while my Android emulator can.
I have tried using USB or WiFi tethering to so that my laptop actually uses exactly the same Internet connection as my Android phone, but this didn't help either. If someone has any idea on how to fix this, your help will be appreciated!
    - Jake Alexander

When I open that page on my device's browser, it says that my browser couldn't connect to it.
I don't think my Firewall blocks port 5001, because I have never set it to do it, and I don't see any outbound or inbound rules on my Windows Firewall to block port 5001. I don't think that my WiFi network would block port 5001, but I can't be sure of it. However, I was told that if I create a portable WiFi hotspot and connect my computer with SUP on it    to the hotspot, then my computer and Android device would be on the same network even without Internet Connection, and I would be able to connect to SCC on my device, However, even in this case it did not work.
    Thanks,

  • OfficeJet 4500 and Problem with Launching Windows Explorer (XP OS)

I installed HP OfficeJet 4500 wireless printer with XP operating system on my desktop PC in Wireless mode.  Printing works fine from desktop and wireless laptops.  However, when I try to access Windows Explorer on my desktop PC, using the desktop shortcut or executable file name in the "Run" menu, the screen flashes, goes blank (blue screen) then refreshes the desktop but will not launch Windows Explorer.  This also occurs when I go to My Computer or Network Places and select "My Documents" or click on the root of the C: drive.  The only way I can access my files is to use the actual program they were created in (i.e., Word, Excel, Adobe, etc.)  I used System Restore and restored my computer to a date prior to installing the printer and this solved the problem.  When I reinstalled the HP OfficeJet printer, the problem recurred, so it is definitely associated with installing the printer.  Anyone have a fix for this?  Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
I haven't seen that issue specifically.  I would download and run the HP Printer Diagnostic Utility.  There might be some file conflicts during the installation that are not resolved that this utility might fix.  I have a C309a AiO that had some other issue that the Diagnostic utility fixed.

  • LMS 4.2.3: Catalyst 6500 with SUP-2T is invisible in Inventory

Catalyst 6506 with SUP-2T (s2t54-advipservicesk9-mz.SPA.151-1.SY1.bin) was discovered by LMS, but he is invisible in Inventory. I see this switch on Topology and Cisco View is working fine, but I never seen him in Hardware Summary Tab for example. How to fix this problem ?

    That's odd.
I'd imagine your system package updates are current given that you're on 4.2.3. Just in case, you would check via Admin > System > Software Center >Device Update. Check the Inventory Config And Image Management check box, and click Check for Updates.
Once that's confirmed, please let us know does it show up at all in the DCR Inventory? (Reference) If not, what if you add it manually there?

  • Working with Super-8

    Hey everyone,
Just wondering if anyone has experience working with Super-8 in Final Cut? I'm looking to get a camera and the only thing thats putting me off is that it seems a quite expensive process to digitise 8mm for use with FCP.
Does anyone else work in this medium? and if so, how have you found the digitisation process?
Alternatively, does anyone know if there is a way to create this effect using filters etc or any software???
Any advice, general chat would be really appreciated
    Cheers
    Matty

    Also :
Shooting on film as opposed to video and using effects is superior in many aspects. A few are, film exhibits no color compression, it is true progressive, on higher end super 8 cameras you can up your framerate to 72fps (which only VERY expensive digital cameras can do), produces a random grain pattern image that sees light like your eye sees light. There is NO substitute for film. Period.
It's debated on whether or not super 8 is worth scanning at 1080P. I say it is, as do many experts, because though the silver halide grain pattern is slightly lower than HD quality, you must consider the pattern from frame to frame. At 24fps, the random grain pattern produces stunningly crisp images that are on par with 16mm these days. Film technology has come a LONG way since the 70s. You be the judge. Go look at film scanned in HD. I can see the difference.
There are a TON of ways to telecine (scan) footage. You can use an old projector and point your video camera at it (lame cause it flickers). You can use a MovieStuff telecine (which works great for reversal film), or you can send it to a good place to transfer. Some places use a true HD scanner... and these can cost a LOT. 500 bucks/hour of telecine. OR, some places oversample in SD and give you a resulting HD scan. This is 1/2 the price and is about 95% of true HD quality. Not a bad ratio and saves a lot of cash.
Do some homework, join some communities, and do your own thing. Opinions are like ********. See what works best for you, but you'll spend some cash learning. I sure did.. but I prefer to shoot film. You'll see the difference in your product... your shooting style and your storyboarding. It's a cleaner way to work since you have to keep things tight! Film aint cheap... but the end product is mesmerizing.

  • Connecting Netweaver gateway with SUP 2.1 for oData channel

    Hi,
we are using Generic Channel to deploy the oData service, what we would like to do is, we want to connect NWGW with SUP 2.1 so for that I have created an RFC connection in sm59 in NWGW under HTTP Connections to External Server and I have named it as NW_TO_SUP.
Now I would like to know what exactly an ABAPer has to do from his end, so that it will trigger the RFC which will pass the data through SUP
ABAPer is using generic channel and not oData channel.
    Regards,
    Srinivas Divakarla

    Dear Srinivas,
Generic Channel : it will be done by any developer not only ABAPer,have exiting or standard BAPI/RFC's are available in the SAP Back-end System.
oData Channel : In this channel developer have a Knowledge on OO-ABAP.

  • G4 MDD Cloning with Super Duper

G4 MDD Cloning with Super Duper
My G4: G4 MDD Single 1.25 Dual Boot. Running OS 10.3.9
I purchased a new hard drive to replace my old 80 GB drive. Also, purchased a second new drive to use as a scratch disk. After cloning to the first new drive that I'll use for the boot drive, I will be taking my 80 GB drive out and putting it in a firewire case that I purchased, for backups.
I never did this before and have some questions.
I'm going to leave my 80 GB drive in my G4 while doing the clone. Can I run Super Duper that is on my 80 GB drive? Or do I have to put Super Duper on a Boot CD or just a Data CD to run Super Duper?
To Clone my 80 GB to my new 640 GB for new boot drive, how do I do this? Do I use a Full Backup, is that the procedure?
Can you tell me how I go about doing this?
Another question I have about partitioning. I was told I could use Disk Utility that is on my 80 GB drive, that I don't have to use the boot CD to do this. Is that correct?
Was told I use Disk Utility to first Partition my 2 new drives, then Format them both Journeled. Is that the way to go for formatting and partitioning my new drives? Then I would do the cloning with Super Duper.
Another question: I run Photoshop CS2, Popcorn, Toast, and VisualHub. I will only wind up having 2 new Hard Drives in my G4. And will be taking the 80 GB drive out to use as a back up drive, after cloning.
What is the best way to partition my new boot drive and new second drive for a scratch drive?
I figured the boot drive would be first partition for my OS and second partition for my data/files.
On my second drive, I would use a first partition for CS2 Scratch and a second partition for Popcorn, Toast, etc. Because I know the scratch for CS2 is random and the scratch for the others are more sequential.
Would this be a good scenario for partitioning my 2 drives? Because I will only be using 2 hard drives in my computer.
Also, what partition Sizes should I make? My Boot drive will be a 640 GB drive and my Scratch drive is a 320 GB drive.
I'm new to this and would really appreciate some advise! thank You.

    hello,
I've just used super duper for the first time a week ago to back-up before formatting my G4 MDD.
It works perfect BUT I'd recommand you use the version for sale (not the free/trial one) as it allows you to access more options such as creating image disks.
It's around 25$ or someting like that...
I'd also recommand you to read the "read me first" pdf file that goes with it, it's very useful and clear.
You have to install super duper on your computer and run it from there to back-up on the remote HD. You can either create a bootable version (if your external HD is a firewire one, and if it is HFS formated) or a disk image (I used this option since you have to erase the whole external disk to create a bootable back-up and I didn't want to do that).
Concerning partitioning, check it, but I think you have to run disk utility from the bootable apple CD to create a partition (disk utility won't partition the disk on which the system is running).
    good luck

  • 6506, 6509 Chassis Exchange along with SUP 720-3B and SUP 2T-10G

    Hi friends,
I have a situation which looks straight forward but since I have not done this before, I thought I should put this here to have some ideas and gottchas related suggestions to look for.
    Situation 1:
Basically I have a situation where there is an existing 6506 chassis with SUP32-GE-3B. for some business reasons we have to replace that with a 6509 chassis with SUP720-3B keeping the configuration intact.
    Situation 2:
In another situation, we need to replace an existing standalone chassis 6509 with SUP-2T-10G with a pair of 6506 with SUP-2T-10G on each running VSS. Is there any gottachas around this work?
Also, while I was trying to boot the spare 6506 with SUP-2T card, it constantly went to monitor mode with the following error messages
System Bootstrap, Version 12.2(50r)SYS3, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

Any suggestions for this? It looks like the bootflash memory is missing from the SUP. I am not sure if this flash is usually onboard on this SUP or it should be like an external PCMCIA card.
Look forward for your help and suggestions.

    Many Thanks

I believe VSS is not yet supported with IOS 3.3.X.
There's a new IOS scheduled for release by the end of June 2014.  Not sure if VSS will be supported by then.

  • Which iOS for. 4507 switch with sup 7

    Hi
When I purchase my 4507 with sup 7, do they come only with ios xe ?
Also if I buy a redundant supervisor, do I also need a software licence for that or is it one licence per chassis ?

  • 3850 Stack EIGRP Problem

I am seeing strange behavior from a 3850 stack running EIGRP to a couple of 4507's. Let me start out by saying that over the past couple of weeks, we have replaced 5 stacks using the same configuration template, code version, etc. with no issues. Before we execute the change to install these switches, we always run failover testing to prove routing. Last night, on the 6th switch stack, failover testing did not succeed. Maybe you can help me figure out why.
Here is what happened. I have a loopback configured on the stack. We connect the stack to each of the 4507's at the distribution layer and bring up an eigrp adjacency. I start a continuous ping from another site to the loopback. Then we pull the first link and the ping continues successfully. Plug it back in, bring up the adjacency. Then we pull the second uplink and the ping begins failing (TTL Lost in transit). The route at the source of the ping was lost so it was using the default route which led to nowhere. When I check the route against the table on the 4507's the subnet is not in the table but the adjacency is up.
I have attached a topology drawing of the relevant devices (as I see it). Again, we never experienced this issue with the 5 previous stacks which are all connected to the 4507's the same way.

    Joshua
So you have equal cost paths on the 4507 to the loopback. You pull the first link and the ping continues because it still has one route. You reconnect the link and an adjacency is formed but no routes are passed from the 3850 to the 4500 and then when you pull the second link the only remaining routes is lost on the 4507 ?
When you plug the first link back in -
    1) what do you see in the EIGRP topology tables on the 4507
    2) You may need to run debugging on EIGRP to see what is happening from the 4500 and 3850 end

  • Catalyst 3850 Stack VLANs, layer 2 vs. layer 3 design question

    Hello there:
Just a generic, design question, after doing much reading, I am just not clear as when to use one or the other, and what the benefits/tradeoffs are:
Should we configure the switch stack w/ layer 3, or layer 2 VLANs?
We have a Catalyst 3850 Stack, connected to an ASA-X 5545 firewall via 8GB etherchannel.
We have about 100 servers (some connected w/ bonding or mini-etherchannels), and 30 VLANs.
We have several 10GB connections to servers.
We push large, (up to) TB sized files from VLAN to VLAN, mostly using scp.
    No ip phones, no POE.
Inter-VLAN connectivity/throughput and security are priorities.
Originally, we planned to use the ASA to filter connections between VLANs, and VACLs or PACLs on the switch stack to filter connections between hosts w/in the same VLAN.
    Thank you.

If all of your servers are going to the 3850 then I'd say you've got the wrong switch model to do DC job.  If you don't configure QoS properly, then your servers will start dropping packets because Catalyst switches have very, very shallow memory buffers.  These memory buffers get swamped when servers do non-stop traffic.
Ideally, Cisco recommends the Nexus solution to connect servers to.  One of the guys here, Joseph, regularly recommends the Catalyst 4500-X as a suitable (and financial) alternative to the more expensive Nexus range.
In a DC environment, if you have a lot of VM stuff, then stick with Layer 2.  V-Motion and Layer 3 don't go hand-in-hand.

  • 3850 Stack not displayed correctly in CiscoView 6.1

    HI,
our customer installed lms 4.2, updated it to 4.2.5 and applied the Maintenance_Release_4_2_5_01_LNX. Its a fresh installation, so there are no previous data. After a discovery via SNMPv3 the 3850 (stacks with 2 or 3 units) show up in CiscoView but only one unit, the others are missing. When I take a look in the fan status, it displays the fan status of the other stack members, so the stack is recognized, but not displayed...
    Installed Packages:
    CiscoView version is 6.1.156
Cat3850.cv50.v1-0.zip (installed with the 4.2.5 update)
Anybody got an idea how to fix this?
    Thanks!

The reason why the C3850 switch stack is showing as standalone in LMS CiscoView is because
    it's returning sysObjectID as standalone.
It should return as 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1745 --cat38xxstack
While, if you poll it for sysObjectID, the Catalyst 3850 stack switches will be returning OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1641.
This is an IOS bug "CSCul00003 - Incorrect Sys OID for Cat3850 Stack device".
Unless this bug is fixed, LMS will not be able to show it as stack device.
You can try to check if you can manually change the device identity to cat38xxstack from Inventory > add/edit device > edit identity.
Else we need to wait for the fix of this bug.
    -Thanks
    Vinod
