451 4.4.0 DNS query failed. The error was: SMTPSEND.DNS.NonExistentDomain

Hi,
I have two Exchange 2010 servers running on Windows 2008 Ent R2.
These mail servers have been running fine for a few years.
Today I noticed two things.
1. users were telling me they were having delays receiving emails from outside of our own domain. The mail gets sent out, but it takes about 15-30 mins for users outside our our domain to get their mail. Mail sent from inside our domain gets delivered right
away.
2. An error message that I see when I go to Tools->Queue Viewer in EMC. The error is: 451 4.4.0 DNS query failed. The error was: SMTPSEND.DNS.NonExistentDomain. This error  shows up when you click on the "Queues" tab and then look at the
"hub version 14" under "next hop domain" column.
I'm assuming these two things are related. I don't understand why the problem is just showing up now. As I said, mail delivery has been fine for a while and I haven't done any major updates to the server in a few months.
Thanks for any ideas and suggestions as to what might be causing it and where I can look.
Mike

Hi,
1. I replaced my Cert with the same exact cert from GoDaddy, just an updated expire date.
2. We have two exchange servers.
3. The message I am seeing now, is under "Last Error" for every queue (not individual messages).
That error message is:  451 4.4.0 Primary Target IP address responded with 421 4.2.1 Unable to connect. Attempted failover to alternate host but that did not succeed.
OR
451 4.4.0 DNS query failed. The error was: SMTPSEND.DNS.NonExistentDomain. (This is the same error I mentioned earlier.
I ran some tests on mxmailbox.com for my domain name.I got the following alerts back when running a DNS check.
SOA Serial Number format is invalid. ns.rackspace.com Serial XXXXXXXX : Suggested serial format year was 1402 which is before 1970
AND
SOA Expire value out of recommended range.  ns.rackspace reported Expire 604800. Expire is recommeded to be between 1209600 and 2419200
I use Rackspace DNS servers for External lookups.
Does this point my mail delay problem to Rackspace or something local on my own machine?
Thanks!
Mike

Hi all, I know that there are many similar topics in forum, but  my problem is a bit different.
My environment : Exchange Server 2013 (Windows Server 2008 R2 Ent) , Domain Controller + DNS (Windows Server 2008 R2 Ent) . EX Server uses DC as preferred DNS Server .
Sometimes, I cannot send email to customers / people of some domains, I get error in my MS Outlook :
Delivery is delayed to these recipients or groups:
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    Subject: *****
This message hasn't been delivered yet. Delivery will continue to be attempted.
The server will keep trying to deliver this message for the next 1 days, 22 hours and 52 minutes. You'll be notified if the message can't be delivered by that time.

    Original message headers:
Then I open Exchange Toolbox ==> Queue Viewer, what I see about messages which are sent to customerdomain.com :
From Exchange Server command promt, I can query dns
    nslookup
    Default Server: mydc.mydomain.com
    Address: 192.168.10.2
    > set type=mx
    > customerdomain.com
    Server: mydc.mydomain.com
    Address: 192.168.10.2
    Non-authoritative answer:
    customerdomain.com MX preference = 0, mail exchanger = aspmx.l.google.com
    customerdomain.com MX preference = 5, mail exchanger = alt1.aspmx.l.google.com
    customerdomain.com MX preference = 5, mail exchanger = alt2.aspmx.l.google.com
    customerdomain.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = aspmx2.googleemail.com
    customerdomain.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = aspmx3.googleemail.com
    aspmx.l.google.com internet address = 74.125.200.27
I can telnet to their mx server port 25 (of course they use gmail hosting) and send email to [email protected] normally.
It just happen sometimes, with some domain (I can send/receive email with customerdomain.com normally before).
How can I fix it ?

    Hi all,
I think the problem because "DNS Suffix" ? although I uncheck "Append parent suffix of the primary DNS suffix" under Advanced TCP/IP Setting of network interface. Please see this:
When I query by using dns client on DNS server:
    C:\Users\Administrator>nslookup

It append mydomain.com into query, I configured my dns server forward to 8.8.8.8

  • 451 4.4.0 DNS query failed - NonExistentDomain

I am in the process of migrating from Exch 2007 to 2013 for a small company. It is a very simple setup of just a single domain which has
1 server, 1 organization and 1 database. Here is what I have done so far:
    1. Installed a physical server EX13 for Exchange 2013 with SP1. All updates have been applied.
    2. Added a new Receive Connector of EX13 in addition to existing EX07.
    3. Changed SMTP port forwarding on the firewall from EX07 to EX13.
    4. Migrated a few mailboxes to the EX13.
Accounts on both servers have no issues with exchanging email both ways on the Internet. However, when accounts on the old server email to
migrated users, the new server does not always receive the messages promptly. There is a delay as much as 30 minutes that happens sporadically.
I checked the message header on the delayed messages and found that they had been stuck in EX07 for a long time before forwarding to EX13.
From Ex07 queue viewer, I found the following error:
451 4.4.0 DNS query failed. The error was: SMTPSEND.DNS.NonExistentDomain; nonexistent domain
Net Hop Domain: hub version 15
Delivery type: SMTP Relay in Active Directory
    Message Source Name: FromLocal
Last Error: 451 4.4.0 DNS query failed. The error was: SMTPSEND.dns.NonExistentDomain;nonexistentdomain
The status showed "retry" and eventually the message would be delivered. Once it went through, I sent another one again from an EX07
account to EX13 account, the message was received instantly.
So far I have tried the following:
    1. Added a host entry to point EX13.my_external_domain.com to the internal address of EX13
    2. Added an 'A' record on the internal DNS server with the same entry.
    3. Verified that EX13.my_external_domain.com was accessible from EX07 using this FQDN.
    4. Removed EX07 and leaving only EX13 on the Receive Connector list
    5. Removed EX13 and leaving only EX07 on the Receive Connector list
    6. Put both connectors back
There is no change of status. Every morning our users are saying that they could not email users on the new server. Then after 30 minutes,
the problem disappeared but it will come back later in the day. On the other hand, users on the new server do not notice any delay when sending messages to the those on the new box. At this point, I don't feel comfortable migrating more users. Can someone
    please shed some lights?

As suggested by Cara, I queried the message logs of both servers to track the delayed message.  This time, it took an hour for a message to be delivered.

  • And again "The error was: Unknown alias" on incoming emails

    Good day for all
I have read all topics about this error, search Google, this forums.
    My environment:
    Windows 2008 STD SP2 ENG
    MOSS 2007 SP2 + April 09 CU ENG
Exchange 2007 + all recent rollup
    AD Windows 2003 Native
Exchange, MOSS and DC is a dedicated servers for each.
For this moment, I have use only mail-enabled lists, and all was working excelent. But now I need use mail-enabled groups (distribution groups). First that I did, is enable mail for Owners group of some test site.
Group is created in OU, and all members is in place. I have try add and delete users from that group in MOSS - all changes replicated to AD's group.
Then I try to send mail to that group, in MOSS log I found this errors:

When I execute command stsadm -o refreshdms -url http://sps-lab/sites/test I have another error:

Same error and for -o refreshsitedms command.
Account for WSS Timer service and for Central Administration Application pool account is the same. This account member of Administrators group in a MOSS Server and has full control on OU.
I was try setup 3 diffrent servers with MOSS - no luck, same error on each.
    Additional information:
Using Reflector, i'm disasemble the refreshdms command. Then I run method's code in my custom application, i've got error Access Denied.
    Code:
    static void Main(string[] args)

    Hi,
You mentioned that Central Administration Application pool account is a member of Administrators group in a MOSS Server and has full control on OU, but I am not sure how is the content application pool configured.
If the content application pool account was not the same with Central Administration Application pool account, please make sure:
Grant content application pool account with Design permission to Distribution Groups list in Central Administration > Operations > Approve/reject distribution groups.
Follow the step by step guidance to configure the incoming mail:
Configure incoming e-mail settings (Office SharePoint Server) (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262947.aspx)
After successful configured the DMS enabled incoming mail, you should see a request record when assigned a email address to a SharePoint group in Approve/reject distribution groups page and the group would be created automatically if the request was approved.
Hope the information can be helpful.

  • Safari cannot open the page ~ The error was: "There was a problem communicating with the web proxy server (HTTP)

Help!  I was cruzing along just fine and went out tonight only to receive the message above:
    Cannot open Page
    Safari cannot open the page
The error was: "There was a problem communicating with the web proxy server (HTTP)."
I have had all the Apple iPhone phone.  Have never encountered anything like this.
All systems are GO as soon as I log on to wifi.
    Can anyone help, please.

I am also fixed.  I also loaded Onavo, but that was the other day ... this is what I did with the help of online chat with AT&T ...
    I went to:
    Settings
    Wifi
I selected the network I was working on by hitting the blue arrow located on right side
At the detail page of that network I scolled down to the bottom to find HTTP Proxy boxes
I was on Off and changed it to Auto and it worked!
    I was soo jazzed!!
Instructions said if it was already on AUTO, to change it to Manual and make your Port = 80 but I didn't have to do that!
    YIPPIE!!  I'm a new man!!
Go to settings -----> WI-FI  -----> select the network you're using  ------> hit the blue arrow located on the right-side of the network name (ie: show details of that network), this takes you to another page.
--------> at the bottom of the page you'll see "HTTP Proxy" boxes (located below the "renew lease" button) ---------------> change the proxy to AUTO.   Note: if you're already at AUTO, change it to "Manual" and make your Port = 80.

  • Unable to create the virtual machine. The error was -4

I have a VS2003 C# application, which call JACE (a JNI wrapper) through C++ mixed mode to use JAVA objects functions.
Because the natural of our JAVA program it must be able to reach maximum heap size of 512MB, we set it during the startup of JVM by using -Xmx512M parameter.
It worked well with a small PC (Dell Optiplex GX750 and Shuttle Xpc ) with only 512MB physical memory. We have about 50 machines running the application in the production.
Recently, one of our customers installs the application to a larger PC ( Shuttle Xpc with different model), which has 1 GB of physical memory. The application started throw exception from JVM. The error message is Unable to create the virtual machine. The error was -4. I checked with JNI return code and found that -4 mean not enough memory.
I did some experiment by running the application with 2GB PC, 1 GB PC, 1GB laptop, 512MB PC. I dont found relationship between how much maximum heap size can be assigned and how much physical memory is available (reading from task manager). The 2GB machine can take only 128MB of maximum heap size However, 1GB machine can take up to 300MB of maximum heap size.
I also use program like ImageJ (http://rsb.info.nih.gov/ij/) to test maximum heap size for it. I found that ImageJ can take 512MB maximum heap size without problem. It can even take 1024MB of maximum heap size.
I have created a small program to duplicate this problem. Although it use exact the same code to start JVM up, it can go up to 650MB heap size for both 2GB and 1GB PC.
This is puzzling. Does anyone know what are factors determine how much maximum heap size can be set for JVM from JNI?
    Software used
    Windows XP SP2
Visual studio.net 2003 SP1 (the problem also occurred without SP1)
    .NET Framework 1.1 SP1
    JACE 1.1rc1_05
JRE 1.5.07 (also tested with JRE 1.5.09 and 1.6.0 beta)

Do you resolve the problem? If so what was the fix?
I have been getting the Java Virtual Machine Launcher error message “Could not create the virtual machine” when attempting to run an Oracle application that uses JNLP via a browser. Even clicking on componets such as javaw.exe produces the error message. In conjunction with receiving the error message, the application that I am working with will not launch.
I had JRE 5u10 and J2RE 1.4.2u13 installed and thought that installing JDK 5u17 may resolve the issue. I removed JRE 5u10 and J2RE 1.4.2u13 and installed JDK 5u17 (and the included JRE 5u17.) The error message was still there.
I have unistalled (via Add/Remove programs) and reinstalled (via both Win off-line and on-line) JDK 5u17 and JRE 5u17 many times.
During the uninstalls I have received a Java Web Start 1.5.0_17 bad installation – error invoking JVM error message.
I have restarted the machine also.
There are some remains of J2RE 1.4.2u13 still on the machine –even after the 1.4.2u13 uninstall. The Java\j2re1.4.2_13\lib folder remains.
    I am running Win XP SP2 and IE6 SP2.
Note: I cannot use Java 6 since the application that I am working with is Java 5 based.

  • DPM 2012 Install Fails, The Database was not Created ID 811

    Hi.
I've tried installing DPM on a Standalone Server (SQL + DPM), and get the "Database was not Created" error. I initially tried DPM 2012 R2, and found that there is an issue with Disjoint Namespaces, so went to DPM 2012 SP1, but still getting
    the same error.
The Install Account has full access rights (sysadmin) to the DPM SQL Instance, however cannot seem to get it right. The account using to do the install has full Enterprise admin, Domain Admin, Backup Operators & Administrators rights.
When opeining SQL Managemet studio, I can see the database has been created but the setup fails and requires me to revert. Here is the last few lines of the Install Log File, please help I always mark as answer.

    Hi,
Check the SQL Agent account on the remote SQL server and make sure the user account syntax is in the form of UserName\DomainName and not UserName@DomainName - if it is change it.

    Hello Amélie,
Check the file systems if you're not ran out of disk space.
Second, check the database if you've enough storage space left.
    Hope it helps.
    Cheers,
    Satish.

  • [Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query failed with error: "The COMMIT TRANSACTION request has no corresponding BEGIN TRANSACTION."

I have an package with source , data flow and destination to execute on begin and commit.
in the below i have just used for questioning purpose with diagram removing my Data Flow task explaining my problem
on execution, i get error as
[Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "COMMIT TRAN DimCompanyCode" failed with the following error: "The COMMIT TRANSACTION request has no corresponding BEGIN TRANSACTION.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet"
property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
as mentioned , i have checked the ResultSet, parameters , connection establish.. all are fine.
Kindly advice on what has to be done.

To avoid this error, the RetainSameConnection property should set to 'True' for the Connection Manager - Application_DB.

  • I messed up DNS, what are the steps clear out DNS and OD to start over?

After I changed the hostname using the Server wizard and the previous dns zones don't show up in server admin.app.  I even tried to edit named.conf but it is somehow locked and won't let me over write it even with root.

They hid this one a little bit.
Download the Server Admin Utilities from apple.com/downloads
    Open Server Admin.
Log in to the server in question.
Click on the arrow next to the server.
And there is the DNS Server control.  You can update your zones there.
Did this from memory, since I am not in front of my server right now.  I just figured it out myself last night.  I had two "extra" zones from my earlier attempts to configure server that were wreaking havoc.  10.7 Server is not exacltly as advertised in terms of being the "server for everyone".
