4800SE - TV out quality problems

Hey all,
Havn't had to post on this forum too much thankfully, my GeForce4 Ti-4800SE has been working great since I upgraded to my new MB, CPU and PS!   (originally had problems with an underpowered system leading to massive polygon problems)
Anyways, I just got a new TV and immediately hooked up my video card to it.  The old TV didn't have AV outputs so I was running it through the VCR.  This new TV has AV as well as S-video inputs.  So, I hooked up using the same AV cable (a high end cable, gold plated connectors) direct to the TV.  Now my picture on the TV has scrolling horizontal lines.  Not very prominent...kind of like old school TV's with a horizontal track...actually it kind of looks like a monitor when it is taped by a video camera and has those sloooooow scrolling bars going from top to bottom.
I'm stumped as to what the problem is.  I am going to borrow an s-video cable from someone to see if it's the cable, but I don't think that it is.  Interesting note, I gave my old GeForce2 MX-440 card to a friend of mine in a different town, he experienced the same problem.  He had a friend come over with a laptop and hooked it into the TV (laptop was running off battery power) and no lines.  Hooked the laptop into the wall and bingo....lines.  That makes me think that the issue MAY possible be caused by power , but what do I do in that case?  My PC and all components are running through a surge protector...do I have to get some kind of filter for the outlet or what?
Ideas?  Thoughts?

Hi,
Sounds like a classic "hum loop", aka "ground loop".
There are multiple paths for the ground/earth/0v part of the signal path, and there is some AC mains supply getting super-imposed on the signal.
In most countries, the TV standard has a field (vertical) rate which is nominally the same frequency as the electricity mains supply (50Hz or 60Hz). However, the output from your PC is not locked to the mains frequency, hence the slow drift in the hum bars.
To eliminate the problem, you have to break the ground loop somehow. Part of the loop is the ground connection from the PC to the wall socket. That is there for your safety, so DO NOT try to break that part of the loop! Instead, try unplugging any other cables from the TV (especially if you have a cable connection) and see if that works. If it does, you might be able to get an isolator for the antenna line (breaks the DC and low frequency AC path of the coaxial cable shield) as a permanent fix.

  • 4 Questions on New Project Settings with Pemiere Elements 9 - & Fix Quality Problems.

    When I started my new project I selected PAL, DSLR - 1920 x 1080p  - 24 fps.
    Once in New Project, I dragged the movie onto the Timeline, then up poped a box saying something like "Fix Quality Problems", whch I accepted.
    Q1 Which is the best frame rate to record in, to subsequently bring media into Premiere Elements 9?
    I am in The UK so we have PAL and therefore, I could use 24p or 25p   - 25 p is 25 fps, and 24p is 23.976 fps. per the Canon manual.   [NB the Canon will not record at 50 or 60p in PAL]
    Q2, I read somewhere that some Video Editors can not accept a movie file in its native format , and thus change it to a different format and then edit it, and then export and convert it back - often with a serious loss of quality. I would like to maximise the quality.
    Q2i] Does Premiere Elements 9 do this converstion? If so does it harm the quality significantly - are there ways to avoid this?
    Q2ii] and if so, is there a recording format best suited for me to record in,  and subsequently import my videos into Premiere Elements 9?  eg would it be better to record in 25 fps?
    Q2iii]  There was also a screen somewhere about this section like 2,2,3,2,2  I think its something to do with pulldown?  What is the best setting for the highest quality?
    Background info:-
    I shot my videos with my new Canon DSLR 5D MkIII;  I set the movie quality to:-
    PAL, 1920 x 1080p  ALL-I (this was the highest quality the 5DIII can record at, there was an "IPB" option for lower quality).  And I selected 24 fps  - which the manual says is actually 23.976 fps
    The manual also says it is a MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 [movie recording compression] Recording Format = MOV
    But  strangely it loads onto my laptop as a "Quick Time Movie". I was expecting to see a .MOV file. [whether this is because this Sony Laptop comes with 'PMB Organiser' and view software. Or the hated iTunes changed how things are imported, I just don't understand any of this stuff .  All I do know is iTunes repeatedly tried to change my default viewer. So did it change the format, which files are imported in?? [re loading the files from my cameras CF card into my laptop]
    Any advice much appreciated

    The way out of the project is encoding. And recoding tends to degradation of the export in varying degrees for different formats. Typically DV AVI undergoes less change with reencoding than the rest. But, we are not dealing with DV AVI here. Your source appears to be
    AVCHD (MPEG4 AVC/H.264) video compression
    1920 x 1080 16:9 @ 24 progressive frames per second
    Rather than export the Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 Timeline to a .mov file or something else and then importing that into Premiere Elements 11 for is AVCHD export, please consider trying to open the Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 project in Premiere Elements 11 and then proceed there to export Publish+Share/Compute/AVCHD with Presets = MP4 - H.264 1920 x 1080 p24.
    Keep in mind that if you take a project created in Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 and edit it in Premiere Elements 11 and then decide to further edit it in Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1, cannot do. And, if some unexpected perk allows the opening of the Premiere Elements 11 edited version, there will be problems. Unless there is a special reason, best complete a project in the version that created and create anew in the newer version.
    A just in case note, the original on the hard drive is not altered. Premiere Elements traces back to the original from the Project Assets thumbnail (copy of original).
    But, you should make the comparsion between your H.264.mov opportunity in version 9.0/9.0.1 and your AVCHD.mp4 opportunity in Premiere Elements 11. I believe that you said that is your intention.
    For your Premiere Elements 11 tryout download, check out another browser. I always had to go to Internet Explorer for that download. Firefox never was good for that. But with this version 11, Firefox did the job. I had better results saving the downloaded folder to Documents than I did to Desktop.
    Please review and let us know if I have targeted your questions. If not, please detail what I overlooked.

  • QUALITY PROBLEM FASH STORAGE

    I bough my MacBook Air in 2013, after 2 years using only internet, photos and music, nothing havy, I updated my OS X Yosemite and my computer turned off and never turn on again, with a question folder on it.
    I look for the online support, I made step by step that exist on website and nothing happen. Even the chat support I did! However, nothing change and nobody could help me from apple.
    So, I took my MacBook to the authorized technician support, that even the technical could not explain to me what happend with my flash storage, I totaly lost it.
    I know that have a poor lot of flash storage that was sold between 2012 and 2013, the year I bough, but was in August and they said that the bad quality lot was until June, who guarantee me that was not this quality lot?
    The problem of my computer for sure was a quality problem, I didnt used in a bad way.
    The budged of the service is too high, almost a price of Sansung laptop, and I am wander if someone can give me a solution or something that can help, because apple didnt reply my quality problem, nobody nows why the computer is off and is pretty new.
    I'm out of USA and hope to get my solution soon, because its a disrespect with the consumer.
    If someone can give me a reply, I will appreciated.

    I have the same problem however I am able to retrieve and play back the audio files but bnot able to retrieve screen capture video files
    I am also migrated it to network storage. Video files are being uploaded to the new location with nno issues but they are not being able to be retrieved any suggestion

  • Skype Out quality so poor it is now unusable

    Dear Community,
    Is anyone else having major issues with Skype Out quality lately?
    I am based in UK with a very fast (40Mb/s) internet link and a newish MacBook Pro, but when calling the US, NL or UAE within seconds of making a connection the line bandwidth appears to be narrowed so far that I cannot hear or be heard.
    This started a few weeks ago and has got so bad that I now have stopped using Skype Out.
    Is anyone else experiencing this or do I have a problem? If the latter, any suggestions would be gratefully received.

    Sorry to hear about the bad call quality you were encountering. Did you use the post call feedback option to share this experience? This way we can easily detect call quality degregation and take appropriate actions.
    I can see that you have had several calls that lasted longer, so it seems not all of your calls in the past weeks were affected. Is that correct?
    This leads to believe the problem is actually not on your end, but when terminating the calls. And for that Skype needs the call quality feedback information to be able to identify how these bad calls were terminated. Sorry that I can't share any better news/solution yet.

  • [K8NGM2-FID] Issue with TV-Out quality

    Hi!
    After purchasing this motherboard that replaced a broken P4 Asus board and a GeForce 5200 AGP with TV-Out I realized the quality of the TV-Out included is not that good. Meaning I see some diagonal lines like an interference but I can't pinpoint from where it cames.
    Do people using this board have this issue? I'm using the SVHS connector with a quality cable that never brought me problems with the other card. I have an Audigy PCI sound card and a 3com 3c905b ethernet PCI card (both present in the other hardware). The rest of my configuration is in the signature and I'm using last nVidia drivers (official). Tried both PAL-N (Argentina) and NTSC.
    Something like this but much more subtle (more space between lines, lines being thinner and in the other direction: upper left to lower right):
    It's becoming really annoying. :(

    Built2Last, tested with those settings before and tried again now but nothing changes because of them. Giving more memory (128Mb) doesn't change TV-Out quality and setting a default mode neither. The Trap more funnily says it doesn't work with OnBoard chip despite seeming like it was for that by just the name. :P
    Don't know what you thought it would be useful for me in that manual. It has lots of things... most I knew (only a couple I learned now so the time wasn't completely lost) but none helped with SVHS (no HDTV) quality. :(

    vernonion, yes I knew such thread. Wonderful one and I read it fully before buying this one. Guess why I ended with this and not with another board? :P
    Well, now to explain what I realized. It seems that after closing the case and moving it to the final location the TV connector cable (inside the computer) displaced itself and was placed over the 3com 3c905b network card I have in one of the PCI slots.
    So, my advise to anyone finding this thread and having a similar problem: try to bend it in a way it doesn't "touch" any PCI card that can add interference to the signal. It seems the cable doesn't have a strong insulation or that the cards make a lot of interference it can be stopped only by an insulation and so the cable shouldn't be near them.

  • M57 audio quality problem

    Hi everyone,
    I have 3 M57's with onboard Soundmax sound devices that have been downgraded to Win XP Pro w/SP3 and all of them are exhibiting audio quality problems.  It seems like that audio is distorted most of the time.  As an example, if a wave file is played 5 times it may sound distorted 3 out of the 5 playbacks.  The only way to describe the distortion is it sounds like the audio is being downsampled to 1kHz.
    I've also tried using speakers, headphones, etc.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • I have a an iMac 27" and am trying to import some videos of a friends wedding into iMovie however one of the movies won't import. It doesn't say why or give any error message or codes. All of the other movies on the card download with out a problem.

The movie in question is not 'corrupt' as you can watch it in iMovie direct from the SD card but as soon as you try to import it, it  just says 'error'. iIve tried moving the file to an external drive ( and other variations on this theme) then importing but have had no luck.

    Thanks for the pointers. The file type is .mts (a proprietry sony one).
    I have now found some video converter software (Wondershare and iSkysoft) at a cost. Either will convert this file for me into .mp4. This I can then import into iMovie without any problems. I've checked this on the trial versions and it worked well but without paying am left with a giant watermark in the video
    The mystery (which I still havent solved) is why did 20 other .mts files import fine and then this one not?
    If you could point me in the direction of some free .mts converter software that would be the cherry on the cake.

  • Print quality problems on Fuji Xerox printers when printing from ArchiCAD and/or Preview.

    Hello,
    We experience major print quality problems when printing directly from Graphisoft's ArchiCAD, Nemetscheks Vectorworks and from Apple's Preview.
    Basically we see various artefacts on our printed drawings, e.g. line thicknesses change and hatched patterns / fills are reproduced with patches where the lineweights and clours change completely... which is not acceptable.
    This affects the following Fuji Xerox printer models on both 10.6.x and 10.7.x with the latest FJX PPDs:
    ApeosPort C5540I
    Xerox LF6605 MF
    The workarounds for us are to either print PDFs from Adobe Acrobat Reader or via the rather dated Accxess Tools, besides that we prefer at times to print directly from a given Software it is also not always possible to generate a PDF and print it from Acrobat Reader... especially since the latest Adobe Reader update to its print dialogue makes printing from it extremely tedious - in fact we are considering going back to 9.5.2
    Obviously, we have approached FJX Tech Support and are awaiting a reply - however we are disappointed that this is happening on relatively new equipment and wonder if anybody else has already found a solution.

    The symptoms you mention could be related to the FJX engine and Acrobat is masking this fault. To test, you can create a Postscript file from the print dialog of ArchiCAD or VectorWorks and then download this to the Apeos RIP. If this produces the same result as when using the printer driver from the applications, then it would indicate that the engine is not capable of handling the data being sent to it from these applications.

    As note already on the iBA forum [ AppleID for ibooks publishing ], you need two IDs. You can't use your developer ID.
    If you already signed up for books with that ID, you need to talk to Apple to straighten things out.

    It was tele tech. I couldn't open my Page Numbers etc. Frist tech chat idiot - following dumping few things in bin, asked me yo upgrade to Yosemite. But the problem still persists. This morning I was asked to do it via telephone and like yesterday, after wasting 20 min, I was put to this apparent Tech Queen ( my foot!). She eventually decided to reinstall  Yosemite asked me to connect my external drive while I connected to her. She was moving cursor asking me to move files and delete and I followed her like a dummy. It took 3/4 hours and she called me 3 times once the lengthy process was completed. I suspected from the beginng for the fact that why should be asking me to click all my backup from the very beginning! Eventually she said I deleted... Or someone else or may be my children ! It was a blatant lie. I run my small business from home and I was simply staying in front of the Mac whole day! Children were at school. Then she said I must have used another computer! I only have laptop and the iPad. I will talk to their manager first thing in the morning. In the mean time please let me know as to how can I transfer photos, music etc back to my laptop from my Iphone and IPad .? I am will connect to laptop as I am worried the new BLANK iPhoto may supersede iphone/iPad stuff? Will it? Please let me know. I am not a very tech savvy person. My son who could help me, is in Manchester Uni and Inam in London.

    i might guess that you have j2sdk1.4.0\jre\bin on your PATH, but not j2sdk1.4.0\bin ...
