48dB from exchange but only 1.2Mbps connection???

Hi all,
  This one is a little frustrating for us. We've just move from a similar situation where we had download speeds of around 5Mbps to a house where it's now only 1.2Mbps.
  What I've done so far:
  Plugged the phone and broadband into the test socket.
  Done a quiet line test; all good to the point I wasn't sure it was actually connected until it said "quiet line test"
  Swapped microfilters, just to be sure.
Done the BT wholesale check:
  Download speedachieved during the test was - 1.22 Mbps
 For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.4 Mbps-2 Mbps.
 Additional Information:
 Your DSL Connection Rate :2.02 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)

Welcome to the forum.
Certainly looks like your SNRm is driving down your sync speed.  Imjolly is right, the connection is stable so we could move to resetting your SNRm back to the target of 6dB.  That should then get your speeds back to where you would expect.
Please send me an email and I will sort this out.  Click on my username (SeanD) and you will find the 'Mods contact link' under the 'About me' section on my profile.  Once we pick up your email and reset the noise margin the change takes affect almost immeditaely

  • ICal Syncs From Exchange, but not To Exchange -- funky Console error.

    I'm the IT guy troubleshooting a user's MacBook Pro 15" (not unibody) with Snow Leopard. The Mac users in my company have been having near-constant trouble with their email and calendars almost since the day they switched, first with Exchange 2003/Entourage and now with Exchange 2007/Snow Leopard (guess how I feel about those "Enterprise Ready" ads!) -- random show-stopping issues like this have plagued them and I delete and resync something almost weekly. (By comparison, the hundreds of Outlook users on my server have never needed to delete and resync. Blackberry users occasionally, iPhone/WinMo users almost never.)
    Calendar items in iCal don't get synced up to my Exchange 2007 server, however creating an item in Outlook Web Access (i.e. directly on the server) get synced down to iCal just fine. I've tried refreshing, etc.
    In Console, there are repeated error messages saying "save failed" ... "Items cannot be deleted from alarms." Unfortunately it seems I'm the first person known to Google to have this error (yay!) hence the post here. Your advice in resolving the issue is appreciated because I'd rather not wipe his iCal and resync from Exchange, given that an unknown number of appointments haven't yet synced up to the server and thus data would be lost.
    Below is the full error message from Console, which repeats once every minute. The only differences between errors are the UserInfo which appears to increment. The appointment in question, "Call Adam Hird" from 9:00 to 9:15 on 11/19/09, looks fine in iCal except that it appears to have been renamed "Call with Adam Hird" with a location (a 10-digit phone number with hyphens) added (which iCal might not like, since the appointment name is just followed by a long dash "--" and nothing. Removing this doesn't appear to solve anything.) and the time changed to 9:00-9:30. It doesn't appear to fix itself when I change its time to 10:00 (again I don't want to delete anything since that might "fix" the problem without actually solving it.)

    Despite my reservations, the user needed his calendar to sync ASAP, so I deleted the Adam Hird appointment. Then I thought "might be a good idea to back it up so I can help Apple Discussions troubleshoot!" so I pressed Cmd+Z to undo the deletion. Apparently this unstuck the clog-- the test appointments that weren't syncing up to Exchange deleted themselves (oops) and the Adam Hird appointment reverted back to its Exchange state (9:00-9:15, no location). Further tests show that syncing now works fine with no Console errors.
    Any ideas? Consider this a bug report, I guess...

  • Wont boot - no chimes, fan noise but only with battery connected

    Hello,
    It's an old Powerbook G4 - A1138 that won't boot.
    If you press the power button, the fan whirrs quickly and loudly. But only with the battery connected. If the battery is removed (but the computer is connected to the power supply) then nothing happens...
    I have tried re-setting the PMU as per this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1431 This didn't help.
    Is it now dead? If I can just reach a point whereby I can boot it in Firewire HD mode (normally holding command + T down) and recover content then great!

    Had this problem now for about 2 years had four engineers out and still the same problem.
    Intermittent noise on line only when bb connected.
    Hub drops and speed gets very slow.
    Worse when weather hot.

  • Time Capsule will only allow Apple products to connect to internet, PC ad PS3 shows excellent signal from TC but won't allow connection.

    I have a Mac, iPad, iPhone and several iPod touch devices that can connect to the internet through Time Capsule without a problem.  There are times when my work PC and PS3 won't connect to the internet through TC.  There doesn't seem to be any reason why this happens and it just started happening in the last month.  The PC indicates an excellent wireless connection.  If you have any suggestions please put it in very easy to understand terms (I'm not a very technical person).

    Please now take a few screenshots of your airport utility so I can see the setup of the TC.
    But it looks like it is bridged.
    Open the utility and click on manual setup.
    Take a screenshot of the summary page.
    Take a screenshot of the internet tab.
    And the other two tabs there.. TCP/IP
    And DHCP
    Yours will look different to mine.. but there is nothing in them that is needing to be hidden.. it is useless info to another person. I post mine to show it is useless in case it worries you.
    I do need some more info.
    What is the modem you have? Is it also a wifi router. In the list of wireless you took the snapshots of, you have several wireless names.. I want to know which of those are yours??
    The WEP security device is a problem. It is old and near useless.. if you don't own it that is fine.. but if it is yours get rid of it. 
    Can your PC and PS3 connect to the internet via some other wireless?
    It looks like you might be able to simply bypass the TC to connect the PC.
    Sometimes it is easier to solve this problem by using different hardware.. and a secondary wireless AP can easily be plugged into a modem router if that is what you have to provide wireless just for your PC devices.
    What model is your TC.. ?
    Please look at the bottom rubber mat.. there is a number in the top line of the rubber molding.. It will say A1254 or A1302 or A1355 .. those are the numbers for Gen1 , 2 and 3. Gen4 it is on the paper label.. where it always should have been A1409. Please tell me that number.

    If i throw a stone from my back garden i reckon i could hit the roof of the telephone exchange so that's how close i am to it, but my upload speed is only 36k and never higher.
    i play a lot of online games and im always getting told by others that my connection is lagging and at times this gets me thrown out of some gaming rooms because people get annoyed at the delay in my updating to the game server. its most noticeable in sim racing games where i disappear from track then suddenly pop up in front of someone and this is very bad for all, and i need to get this sorted fast.
    i use to have 56k upload at my old address and was along way from the exchange so my question is why is my upload speed so bad if im living next door to a exchange ??
    my download speed is 510k
    my upload speed is 36k
    im on adsl with microfilters i use the bt accelerator and am plugged into the box by my front door so there is nothing more i can do.
    When i joined bt i was told my line should be good for 9mb but ive never got 900k the best ive ever got was 614k so no idea where they get their info from.
    is the UK really so far behind the rest of the world when it comes to internet connections?

  • Hp 6510 prints fine from laptop but only prints blank pages from ipad

    Printer prints fine from my laptop but will only spit out blank pages from my ipad.  It used to print fine from the ipad.

    RESOLVED!!!!
    I called HP regarding this issue, and was connected with a very nice woman out of India, Lola, who resolved the problem for both my Google Nexus 7 tablet running android 4.4.4 and also my iphone 5s.  Its the printer, and its wi-fi connection, along with the app.
    Here were the steps to resolve:
    1. Make absolutely sure you dont have a cable going into your printer from your router or modem.  Then make sure your connected to wi-fi if on your printer if you did.  (If you had a cable connected, re-run the wi-fi setup wizard for your printer, preferably on the printer itself, not your computer.
    2. Sounds crazy, but verify your wi-fi is actually on.  Click on the wi-fi button on your printer, and you should also have a light that signals your wi -fi is actually connected (at least on the Officejet 6700 that I am using, it does).
    3. Make sure you still have HP Eprint on your phone and/or tablet.  Check that you have your settings correct in your HP Eprint setup options, including the email address you want to use for your account.  If you don't, you will need to enter it, then click activate on HP Eprint.  It will send you a code via email. Copy/paste the code into the HP Eprint setup.
    4. Once you're sure you have your printer re-connected to wi-fi correctly, and no cables attached; resart your printer, and re-start your phone/tablet.  Once everything has re-booted its time to test....
    5. Test Printing: First test printing drictly from HP Eprint's app, selecting a file... then test using a webpage from your browser, to ensure its running correctly through Airprint (which is best, secondary is Google Cloud Print).
    If you are still having trouble, re-boot everything again, double check your wi-fi on your printer, and that you have your settings correct in your HP Eprint from above.  If that doesn't work for you, call HP at (855) 785-2777 and select HP EPrint for assistance.

  • No Airport activity on wake from sleep (but only when opening the lid)

    I've read a lot of discussions dealing with wi-fi issues, but none seems to match my own problem.
    I purchased a MBP 13" 2.4 GHz mid 2010 a few weeks ago and I'm running SL 10.6.3. I connect to the internet via a Time Capsule ethernet connected to a D-Link DSL 300T modem. Everything is updated and running smooth, but on wake from sleep opening the lid there's no way to get Airport working. Most of the times it's inactive, but I can not activate it in System Prefs > Network. Sometimes shows up as active, the Airport icon in menu bar keeps blinking but can't connect to the Time Capsule (whose light stays green all the time). The only way to get it back to work is restarting the MBP. This does never happen if I don't close the lid, though putting my Mac to sleep: on waking Airport works fine.

    my MBP 13" Mid 2010 running 10.6.4. has similar problems. I like to use it closed lid connected to an external display with apple usb keyboard. In closed lid mode airport connection fails several times or I do get a poor connection, e.g. one or two curves in the airport menu bar icon with significant lower connection speeds. I do connect to a airport extreme n station with does its job rock solid. as my wife uses a two year old macbook and I have got an G4 with a sonnet airport card running both without problems even from a greater distance in our home it seems to me that the macbook pro has serious problems operating with the internal wifi antenna in closed lid mode, maybe due to shielding from the lid?
    Has anybody experienced the same problem or successfully found a way to solve this problem? When using open lid mode wifi problems never occurred, but that's not the preferred option for my desktop table.

  • Trying to import from scanner, but only get the wizard and I need the advanced screen....

    I just installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 (I was using Elements 6 before).
    I am trying to import a photo from my scanner, but am having some trouble.  I need to import from the "advanced" screen I was using before, but now I am only getting the option to import through the wizard.
    In Elements 10, when I click import I only have the option to "Frame From Video", or "WIA Support".  When I pick the WIA Support, it takes me to the wizard.
    In Elements 6,  when I click import my scanner was actually listed and that is where I went to the advanced preview/scan screen somehow related to my scanner (it said Epson Scan at the top of the window).
    How do I get my scanner to be listed in the import menu so that I can get to the Epson preview/scan window?

    Oh, I spoke too soon.  I just found out that I had to move the twain file from the optional plug in folder to the regular plug in folder.  Everything is working great now. 

  • Can ssh to my home MBP from work, but cannot make outbound connections

    Details:
    I have a MBP with a wired ethernet connection on my home network, and a 24/7 file server that I can access via SSH from outside my firewall, so I can ssh to my fileserver, then ssh to my MBP from it:
    (I use a python script on the fileserver to send WakeonLAN packets to the MBP to rouse it from sleep before ssh'ing to it.)
    WORK --ssh--> Fileserverbehindfirewall --ssh--> MBP
    Once signed onto my MBP I can do normal unix stuff and I can ping external addresses, but any application that tries to access external addresses hangs.
    For example, running wget {URL} hangs, and 'sudo gem update' hangs as well.
    I figure that there is some kind of application firewall blocking going on, but I don't know enough about OS X internals to have an idea where to look.
    When I get home and log on locally, I can run these same apps from Terminal with no problems, so I figured that connections from Terminal.app are allowed, but those from a raw tty session via SSH are not???
    Any pointers or ideas very welcome.

    "deh2k" is correct. Ssh or using Terminal local should see the same behavior.
    I would very much suspect LittleSnitch. This is a case where you might try something from the local terminal and see if LittleSnitch displays a pop-up asking if you want to allow the action. You would not see this pop-up from a remote location.
    And of course turning off LittleSnitch is another way to go.
    Or as part of establishing your ssh connection, you also create a Screen Sharing/VNC tunnel
    ssh -L 5901:localhost:5900 [email protected]
    this of course assumes you have started the Screen Sharing on your remote Mac.
    Now you connect using Finder -> Go -> Connect to Server...
    vnc://localhost:5901
    and now if LittleSnitch is going to complain, you should see it via the Screen Sharing session.
    Of course, you could also use the Screen Sharing session to just do what you want via a GUI interface

  • App Store Updates (but only Updates) cannot connect to iTunes Store

    The App Store icon on my homescreen shows I have 6 updates waiting to download.
    When I go to App Store > Updates it says "Cannot connect to iTunes Store".
    I can browse online with Safari so have internet connectivity. Every other tab in the App Store (e.g. Top 25) connects and I can download new apps. I can also access the iTunes store by using the iTunes icon - I can view and download anything from iTunes. The ipod touch can therefore connect to the iTunes Store, but for some reason the App Store Updater cannot.
    I'm using OS 5.1.1, have searched the forums, shutdown and restarted the ipod, checked the DNS, logged out and in of my iTunes account, used different wi-fi networks, but no progress. Any tips would be massively appreciated !

    Thanks schan20, this worked perfect.  I closed all apps, double tapping home key from home screen, turned set date and time automatically off, clicked set daate and time, changed year to 2014.  I then opened updates on apps and got the security message, went back to set date and time, turned on set automatically, opened app store back up (did not  force close after security message) , got to loading and had 21 apps to update
    Not sure what caused this initially; but some things I had done in the past were, I had set date and time auto off, I had changed the date and time numerous times in a row for the game deer hunter reloaded to get gold, most of the time stopping around August each time.  Other than that, I have not made any major changes or added any apps when it stopped working.

    It sounds like you are unable to get your phone updated by downloading it directly to the device, and it only works when you connect it to iTunes. I would recommend you use the troubleshooting in the following article with different troubleshooting depending on the issue that it is having:
    Resolve issues with an over-the-air iOS update
    If that does not resolve, or doesn't address the issue, can you elaborate on what is happening when you try?

  • EA1 - Connection tree is compacted, but only with specific connection names

    When first started, SQL Developer v2.1.0.62 will consistently "compact" all of my connections over the top of each other... resulting on a garble of indecipherable text that prevents me from selecting the connection I want. I fixed this by adding a new database connection, then restarting.
    If I delete the new connection, then everything looks fine until I restart... then it gets compacted again. I'm guessing that I'm hitting some special condition that's related to the names of my connections. If you would like to give me an offline way to get you the list then I'd be happy to send it through, but I'd prefer not to publish all of my details in this open forum.

    I can't seem to replicate the problem any more, but I have put that line into my conf file just in case... and because of the positive success of the other poster, I'll assume that this does in fact fix the problem.
    I presume that this line will be added by default in future releases?
