4G 3rd Gen Ipod Nano - "Appears to be Corrupted"

I'm getting the the following error:
"Itunes has detected and Ipod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this Ipod before it can used with Itunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the Ipod."
I've tried connecting the new Ipod to my G4 Mac OS X 10.3.9 Itunes 6 and with my PC running Windows XP with Itunes 7.4.2 (most recent update as far as I can tell).
Is this a factory defect? I bought the nano a few days ago and it hasn't worked yet. The actual device itself looks fine, powers up and on, allows me to click through the menus and select all the categories.
Any advice here?

Did you get this error message on the PC? If you did, it most likely has a drive collision problem with something else attached to the computer. Connect the 3rd Gen Nano to a rear port on your PC, and connect your mouse and keyboard. Disconnect ALL other USB devices including printers, scanners, digital cameras, external hard drives, thumb drives, improbability drives, modems, etc. and disconnect from any network you might be on. Now change the drive letter of the iPod to something much higher like M or P ro Z, so long as you have no other devices using these letters.

The 3rd Generation Nano won't work with either OS X 10.3.9 or iTunes 6.

Never mind, I think. I think I figured it out. There was 1 song (out of > 900!) that somehow had been purchased with the other ID - I have no idea how. Once I deleted that song, it stopped asking.
There may be something with the newest iTunes version too. I didn't think in older versions that the "On this iPod" list of songs was greyed out. But at least it syncs ok.

  • My 3rd gen ipod nano is not being read by itunes when I plug it into my mac laptop.  It says "no name" on the mac screen, I lost all my music on the ipod itself.

My 3rd gen iPod nano is not being read by my iTunes on my mac.  When going to sync, the mac screen says "no name". Also I believe I lost all the music on the iPod.  When turned on it says "Welcome" as if it is new.  I tried to copy all my music into the "no name" folder and then sync.  The iPod said it was "syncing".

So does iTunes see the iPod or not?  I couldn't quite understand from your post as you said it wasn't, but then said that the iPod was syncing...

  • What are the best devices to use in my car to listen to music on my 3rd gen iPod Nano?

What are the best devices on the market today to use in my car to listen to music on my 3rd Gen iPod nano?  I currently use the Monster device that plugs into the electrical adapter (former cigarrette lighter!) in the car.  It's a pain in the neck to manually search for unused FM stations on a long trip. I want something that automatically searches for unsused FM stations or, better yet, that will allow me to somehow connect the iPod into the CD player or directly to the radio itself.  I have a 2004 Toyota Highlander.
Any suggestions for quality after-market products from the Forum?

If you have files with the .m4v or .m4a extension its better to change them to .mp4. The M4 extensions will sometimes download in the browser instead of playing.

It can quickly convert to all the formats you need to load for html5 playback: MP4, OGG, WebM
If you include these three, fallback to flash will only be required for Internet Explorer V 8 and older. V 9 is supposed to support html5 but I haven't actually seen any proof of this.
Players like flowplayer and JWLongtail are convenient because the control bar icon be customized. This lets you get away from the nasty looking QT control bar.

  • RDS data display and 3rd gen iPod nano

Will RDS data be displayed for compatibile stations when using the Radio remote with 3rd gen iPod nano?

Since the iPod radio remote isn't compatible with the 3rd gen nano, the answer is probably no.
I've found that the radio/remote often does work with iPods that are not listed as compatible, but that some of the features (such as RDS) do not or at least if they do work, they're pretty hit and miss.

  • Attempting to connect a 3rd gen ipod nano to itunes that has 2nd gen nano..

So that may or may not have made sense, but basically what is happening that I'm trying to sync up my brand-new 3rd gen. iPod nano to a newly update version of iTunes that still shows that my 2nd gen. iPod is on there, when it got stolen 4 months ago. I've restarted my computer about 4 times and un-installed and re-installed iTunes twice, all to no avail.
I appreciate any answers that may come from this.

Oh, so you mean go from headphone jack to aux?  I thought I had to go from that new lightning connector to aux.

  • 3rd gen iPod nano is not correctly recognized on new Windows 7 iTunes

Moved my iTunes library from old PC to new Win7 PC via direct iTunes folder copy.
    Looked ok
but when I connect my 3rd Gen Nanos, I get dire warnings that I have to authorize new PC with my son's AppleID not mine (was originally his iPod but long since factory reset and reloaded) or else iTunes will delete purchased songs. (The new PC is authorized for my Apple Id).
I have 2 of these iPods and the other one was never my son's so I don't know why it also thinks it needs his id.
When we check my son's account and look at devices, the iPods are not listed. (maybe only newer iOS devices are listed?) So I can't "remove" the iPods from that account via the iTunes Store account profile.
yes, I have tried reinstalling iTunes and wiping the registry - no luck.  If I "cancel" when the dire warnings come up instead of authorizing using my son's account, then the iPod is not recognized at all by iTunes (does appear as external drive in Windows) and I have to reinstall .... again.
    My questions are:
    1) do the old iPods themselves some how store the original Apple ID they were associated with?
    2) If so, how can I reset to use my Apple ID?
        Will "factory reset" work?
What I don't want is to reset and then find out I can't reload using current iTunes library associated with current Apple ID
    3)  I don't think this will solve the problem but: in iTunes, can I separately sign in  with both IDs and authorize the computer with both IDs? Can a single instance/install/library of iTunes use 2 different AppleIDs? (there are not 2 users on this PC - just 1. So just 1 iTunes instance, just 1 library)
    More details:
    I tried:
If I authorize the new PC for my son's account which the ipod and Itunes seems to want, then when the iPods are connected, all the song's listed in the library in main/right pane are greyed out and can't be selected.  I don't recall this being a problem on the old PC so something seems wrong.
    I am concerned that:
If I give up and authorize this PC for both Apple Id's,  then what?  If I buy something new from iTunes (using, can I sync it to the iPod?

  • Hi my 3rd gen iPod nano is not connecting to iTunes - the error message says there is missing software to communicate with the device. I am running iTunes 10.4 on XP and I have tried all the troubleshooting routes to no avail - anybody help me out?

I can't get Itunes to communicate with my 3rd gen Nano - I've reinstalled iTunes several times but still get the same error message for both mine and my wife's ipod - same version of 3rd gen. All the troubleshooting guide has been followed but still not connecting.
    Any ideas?

  • Where do I find ipod games in the itunes store?  It's for a 3rd gen ipod nano.

I go to the apps section in the itunes store and the only games are for ipad and iphone.  The iphone apps say they'll work on ipod touch, but nothing about ipod nano.  I've found a bunch of FAQ stuff saying ipod games work on 3rd, 4rth, 5th gen nano and classic, but I can't find where ipod games are.  I did a search for "click wheel games" and it said that option is not available in itunes US.  I just gave my old 3rd gen nano to my niece and she's dying to get games on it, but I can't find them.  Some one save me!
I synced the ipod to her parents account and checked for updated software, it said the OS was version 1.1.7 or something like that, and that that was the most current version.

Apple no longer sells games for any iPods except the touch. Sorry, but unless you already had them downloaded to your iTunes account, you can't get them now.

  • Problem with 3rd Gen Ipod Nano being recognized by Itunes

I have a third generation Ipod Nano that was only used once. It takes a full charge and appears to be working fine. Problem is when I plug it into a computer it is not recognized by Itunes. The computer recognizes it but not Itunes. I have tried it on several computers and same situation. I have tried other Ipods and they are recognized by Itunes. I have reset it and reloaded Itunes with no change. Any suggestions?

If none of the solutions found in the PDF user manual and from DIY websites like iFixit and YouTube's How To tutorials work then it's time to take your iPod Nano to your local Apple Store or an AASP.

  • Conflict: My OS is Windows 2000 Pro. and I have a 3rd gen. ipod nano.

I know that I need to have either Windows XP or Vista to run itunes 7.6, but I was wondering if there is an older version of itunes that I could download and if it would work for my ipod.

There is an older version of iTunes that will work with Windows 2000 but it's below the required specification for the latest Nano:
    iTunes 7.3.2 for Windows 2000

Some hates, some doesn't care. If you don't like it, exchange it. I had a minor tilt, and got it exchanged.
Despite of the tilt I really loved it, great design and functionality, both music, videos and pictures. The screen is so beautiful - 214 pixels pr. inch! Beautiful! I was so sorry I had to send it back, but I really wanted it to be perfect for that much money. And when I first had seen it, I couldn't get my eyes of the tilt.
I've never had a iPod before, though I've desired to get one. I think you pretty easy will be able to use the iPod, iTunes guides you pretty much through, or you can see the feature guide on the AppleSite.
I think it is a pity that the CoverFlow isn't fully functional, but I have no problem with waiting for a software fix.
Just make sure there about the tilt (it tils 1 degree or more counter-clockwise) and that the buttons and sensitivity is working with you (some had problems with loose buttons or extremely-high sensitivity)

  • Where can I buy a 3rd Gen ipod Nano

    Title says it all thanks!

I suggest you try an online trading site, like trademe or eBay. I don't think you can get one at an apple retail store.

  • Transferred itunes library from Windows XP PC to new Windows 7 PC. plugged in 3rd gen Ipod. Ipod icon appears along with playlists, music etc. Songs are grayed out and won't play. Please help!

I recently transferred itunes library from windows XP PC to new Windows 7 PC. The transfer was successful, however when I plug my 3rd gen Ipod Nano into the new PC, the Ipod icon appears along with the music, playlists, etc. The songs are shown but are 'grayed out' and wont play or sync. The 'Devices & Printers' window in new PC shows icon for Ipod driver & is OK. The icon for the Ipod appears but depicts a delta shaped warning icon that states that the Ipod is'not operating properly'. Tried troubleshooting. The troubleshooting message states the the Ipod is 'disconnecting'. Can you help me with this problem?

Then, I dropped the entire itunes file from the old PC (XP) into an empty external drive.
That "itunes file from the old PC"?  Is that the iTunes folder, from the old PC, that was in the user home folder's Music folder?
All of the library, playlists, etc. from the ipod as they always have been are shown, by they are 'grayed out' and will not open or play.
That's on the iPod, correct?  Are all of your old playlists in iTunes, from the old PC, still there in iTunes on the new PC?  Are the songs in iTunes still playable?
This document provides the steps to transfer a complete iTunes library between two computers.  See the section called External drive.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer - Apple Support
There are many steps, but this is a summary.  (1) On the old PC, consolidate all of your iTunes data into the iTunes folder.  (2) Copy this iTunes folder to the external drive.  (3) On the new PC (that has iTunes installed but NOT running), replace its existing iTunes folder with the one from the old PC (on the external drive).  When you run iTunes, it uses the iTunes folder from the old PC, and it should look like iTunes on the old PC (with all the playlists, ratings, play count, etc.), and your iPod will see the iTunes library as the same iTunes library (because it is the same library).
If you did something different, and the old PC is still accessible, you may want to try it using the method from the linked document.
