4G 40GB iPod deleted my songs after a soft reset

I've been resetting my iPod quite often because of skipping, freezing and everybody's favorite - the clicking hard drive. I ran the diagnostic test on it and it passed all phases of it. However, during a soft reset this morning, the iPod turned on as if it had been turned on for the first time - asking to select a language, etc. AND all my songs are off the iPod. Thank God they're still on iTunes on my PC. Any ideas what's up with it? I just ordered a replacement hard drive from eWiz and I plan to replace it once I get it.

Hi RR29,
Welcome to Apple Discussions
Soft Reset? Compared to a Hard Reset?
How exactly did you do it? Curious.
"I just ordered a replacement hard drive from eWiz and I plan to replace it once I get it."
Be careful! I would hate for something awful to happen to your iPod when you change the battery. Are you having battery troubles? Maybe I can help.

  • Ipod deleted existing songs when performing a sync

    Hi,
My Ipod deleted existing songs when performing a sync. Please advise on how to restore the files that have been deleted from the IPod.
    Best Regards,
    John Joseph

    Hey there,
How do you have your iPod set to sync music? Are the 825 songs still taking up space as other on your iPod? To look, just head in the your iPod's settings and click on About to view details.
I would try restoring the iPod in iTunes and setting it up to "automatically sync" with your iTunes library. Also, if you have it set to sync all checked songs and videos that each song you are trying to sync has a check mark next to it and that disk use is not enabled on it.
    Hope this helps.

  • Ipod wont show songs after updating.

Hi there, I have a Ipod 30gig Video. I have just done the 1.2.2 update on it. I am running windows 2000. The only way I can get my songs back and lists, is to plug it into my mac laptop, then Eject it. It seems as Itunes does not support windows 2000 no longer (no further downloads for win 2000)I cannot view my songs after ejecting it. I am not very happy and would not have updated the Ipod firmware if I knew this was going to happen.
Can I reverse my firmware with an older one somehow? What shall I do?

I am having the same problem!!!! have you resolved this issue yet? I see noone has replied with an answer its really frustrating. I have a friend at work who plugs it into this ipod thing he has sorry i don't know the name of it. He plugged it in to try to back up my music but didn't have enough space so when he disconnected it i was able to listen to my music again! when i plugged it back into my computer at home and at work all the songs disappeared again when I disconnected it!! I don't get it!! He suggest's I delete all my songs after I back it up of course and start from scratch! I don't want to do that 'cause it will take forever to get all my stuff back on. There has to be a better way! and APPLE should have warnings before they just throw out updates!!!

  • IPod touch duplicates songs after updates

My I-pod touch duplicates some (not all) songs after every IOS update. The only way I've found to correct this is to restore my I-pod and then synch everything again; very annoying and time-consuming. This occurs even after turing off I-Cloud Match. Any ideas/suggestions?

The only solution is the delete the non-playing songs and resync them or redownload them. Sometimes some files on the iPod get corrupted during and update. You may even have to restore the iPod:
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Deleting "lost" songs after transfer?

When transfering songs from an E-book I lost alot of my library (got the ! next to songs)...how do I delete goups of songs without going through the whole list? And, is there any way to automatically delete "dead"songs from library? Thanks All

... is there any way to automatically delete "dead"songs from library?
MacMuse's User Tip should provide the solution to your problem.
Below, I've taken the liberty of making a couple of minor changes in the wording that hopefully make it just a bit easier to follow:
    - Select the Music entry in your iTunes Source List (the left-hand column).
    - Select/highlight all the entries. Edit menu > Select All will do the trick.
    - Now go to the File menu > Get Info.
    - Confirm that you want to edit information for multiple items.
    - Assuming that you're not using it for actual song information, enter 99 in the BPM field. Press OK.
    - Wait for iTunes to retag the song files. Depending on the size of your Music Library, this may take a while.
    - Once that's finished, click on the BPM column heading in the main iTunes Library display to sort your songs based on the BPM entry. If the BPM column isn't showing, go to the View menu > View Options, check BPM and press OK.
    - Since iTunes wasn't able to find the files for the "dead" tracks, it couldn't retag them and they will be listed separately from the "live" (99 BPM) tracks.
    - You can now click on the first of the dead tracks and Shift-click on the last of them, then right-click > Delete.
    That should be it.
As MacMuse suggests, you might now want to go back and take the 99 out of the BPM field in case you ever have to do this again.

  • Nokia maps updated and after a soft reset..

After I installed the nokia maps suite update, I decided to do a soft reset on my n8. I'm always using nokia pc suite to install apps, maps, voice files and software updates. But now, I can't update my maps via nokia suite. I'm using the latest stable nokia suite (not beta) I also tried to restore but it's a no go.

What's the error it's giving when you try to update the maps? I assume it's just the regional map data you're trying to get, and the app is on your phone OK.
Have you run the maps application on your phone? On first start it has to create some directories, only after it's done this can you install maps and languages.
Also might be worth trying the latest beta from here if you're still having issues: http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia-maps-suite it does say one of the fixes is a maploader download issue.... this may be exactly what you need!
If I have helped you, please hit the star at the bottom of my posts - it's appreciated!
Don't forget if your problem is solved to press the "Accept as Solution" button.

  • How to delete duplicate songs after restore

I've restored my hard drive after a crash and now I have a duplicate of every song in my music Library. ( And one of the duplicates will not play as it states-"original file cannot be found.')Is there an easy way to delete the duplicates without doing each one individually?

Take a look at robert jacobson's scripts:

The one you need is itunesremovenotfound
Download the EXE file. When you run it select the script and when prompted for playlist you want library.

  • My iPod deleted its songs!

So, I turned on my iPod today, and it had deleted every single song from its memory!
How and WHY did this happen?
My songs are all on different computers, are my songs gone for good??
    HELP

It would appear that the iPod hard drive or iPod software has become corrupt. This doesn't mean that the songs are not on your iPod, just that the iPod cannot "see" them.
You should restore the iPod and then reload the songs from iTunes.

  • Disk error...Ipod stops uploading songs after 8

I just bought a new ipod... it starts uploading songs fine and normally and then it just stops after 8 songs..and a box with "disk read error......" comes up. I have read and reread all the support info...and have updated windows as much as possible...also i have uninstalled and reinstalled i tunes..and the updater...also reset the ipod...can anyone help please?? I AM so frustrated... or has anyone had a similar problem??

You're lucky - mine stops after 2 or 3. The only workaround I have found is to stop syncing, use the iPod (listen to it) and come back later. Each time I do this it works fine for 1 or 2 new song loads and then I get the disk error. It is as though with any more it is getting "confused".
    Any suggestions.

  • I2nd Gen Ipod touch lost songs after upgrading to IOS 4.2.1.

I have 2nd Gen Ipod touch and after upgrading to IOS 4.2.1, all the music were wiped out and I can't seem to upload or sync it anymore.  Tried all the fixes out there in the web to no avail.  Appreciate the help.

I am having the same problem.  I tried using a backup from two months ago, all of my music and apps are lost.  However, my iPod DOES remember my settings for the default apps, and my contacts are still there!  Tried any fix I could find to no avail, would certainly appreciate any advice!

  • Please can anyone help? My brother has given me his old 1st generation iPod and, while I love some of the music on it, some of it is awful!! How do I delete individual songs without having to reset and lose everything?? There must be an easy answer.

Please can anyone help? My brother has given me his old iPod 1st Gen 30GB. It has loads of music on it that I love and don't want to lose however there is quite a bit of stuff that I really don't want. How can I remove the songs I don't like without having to reset the iPod and lose the songs I do like. I'm sure there's an easy answer but I just can't figure it out!!

Hi there, there doen't seem to be any option to "select songs and videos" so this hasn't helped I'm afraid. I guess I'll just have to accept the fact that I'm going to have to reset and lose the lot.

  • Delete all songs after MP3 Gain?

    Hi Guys,
I listen to my iPod Touch on my motorbike, so I can't keep changing the volume for louder or quieter albums. I have used MP3Gain to set all the songs to 89 dB.
Once I've done this, do I have to remove all music from my iPod and re-load it?
If so, what's the best way of doing this?
    Thanks.

And the answer is yes. If you do it on files already copied to your iPod, you must remove and re-add them, so do it before adding them

  • Does updating your ipod delete apps, songs, photos or app data or any other thing ???

i want to update to 5.1 and it says that it will backup and restore all apps photos songs and everything.so,does updating delete apps or anything or erase app data and progress??

If you update on your syncing computer and all synced media like app, music and synced photos are in yur itunes library/on the computer, you will not lose them nor ose apps date.  The backup that iTunes makes as the first step of the update includes app dat and some other things but does not include synced media.

  • My ipod deleted all files after resetting

it did that, so i went back to connect it to the computer to get the music back on it. And, so i went to turn it back on and now it wont turn on. Could this be because my battery is dead and i need to send it in to get a new one since i have had it almost a year?

i believe you're supposed to let the battery recharge after resetting it. i'm not positive but try it anyway, it can't hurt.
