4g iPod not showing up in "Devices"

I'm not sure how important this is since it will sync my older 4g iPod, but when I open Preferences in iTunes, only my new iPod Touch shows up under "Devices". Is my older gen. iPod not considered a device or does it just not matter?

If your Apple TV doesn't appear in the iTunes window (below Devices), note the following:

Make sure your Apple TV is turned on and connected to your network. To check your network settings on your Apple TV, choose Settings > General > Network.

Choose iTunes > Preferences, click Apple TV, and make sure “Look for Apple TVs” is selected.

If the Firewall service is turned on (in the Sharing pane of System Preferences), make sure “iTunes Music Sharing” is selected.

Updated software since computer said there were updates. Now I'm having trouble with iPod not showing up under devices. Have gone through all the steps under troubleshooting. Nothing helped. Had this same problem periodically in the past, as well. Itunes also says I have an app I reinstalled today due to it not working properly, and it won't synch with iPod. (earlier today, iPod was showing up and synching properly, but this app wasn't getting downloaded to the iPod. Just shows up in iTunes. HAve tried restarting computer, iTunes and iPod, but no luck.

When I plug in my 3rd generation iPod nano to my mac OS x 10.7.3 and open iTunes it does not show up under devices anymore. Why and how can I fix this so I can start transferring my songs again?

Ipod not showing up under devices - 6th generation

when I open itunes ,my ipod shows up in the top right hand corner of the screen as "ipod" but does not show under devices on the left side. When I try to sync the opod to my library , Itunes says the ipod synced successfully but there is no music on my ipod at all now .I have tried all kinds of the suggestions regarding the "services" and making sure the apple driver is on the computer. I had to download a whole new operating system ( from dell) a few months ago. since then I have synced my iphone but cant seem to get the music from my library to my ipod nano(6th gen) . any ideas. I also re loaded itunes again but that did not help ???

What do you see on the screen of the iPod when it's connected to your computer?
Have you tried resetting the iPod or restarting the computer?

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

When in DFU mode and connected to the computer iTunes does not say anything but iTunes will see the iPod and you can restore the iPod via iTunes. When in recovery mode and you connect, iTunes will say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

Hey there,
A file or some files may have become corrupt somehow during connecting or disconnecting the unit. Try putting it into Disk Mode and see if that helps. To put it into Disk Mode, hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears. When it does, immediately press and hold the Center an Play/Pause buttons until you see a confirmation that your iPod has been put into Disk Mode.
If you are able to do this, it may be a good idea to restore the iPod to its original settings. Keep in mind that by doing this you are erasing all the music and files from your iPod so make sure they are backed up on your computer somewhere. More on restoring your iPod can be found in the Apple document below.

Are the apps checked to be synced to the iPod and did you click on the sync button in Tunes?
Were the apps purchased fro the same accoubnt signed into in the iPod?
Are the apps compatible witht he iPOd model and iOS version?
Do you have restrictions set that prohibit instaling apps?

However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components

- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

Options for iPod not showing up in iTunes

i've had my iPod classic for about 5 months, but when i plugged my Nano into my computer it would recognize it under "Devices" and have all the things under it. But when ever i plug in my Classic, it doesn't have anything under it (i.e. "Music", "Videos", "Photos", etc).
Can anyone help me out here????

you know when you plug in your iPod, it shows up under "Devices". And under that, there are options like "Music", "Playlists", "Videos", "etc". When i click on the Disclosure button like you said, all that does is make the list minimize.
You previsouly wrote they were not even there but you wanted to see them.

I Pod is not showing up under devices in ITunes...it is connected to my MacBook Pro and it says connected ...but it is frozen...

I'm not a Mac user, but do one of the following:
> Restart your mac.
> uninstall & reinstall iTunes
> reset your iPod (if possible)
> make sure iTunes is up to date.
This is what I really know, I don't use a mac. If this doesn't help, then sorry.
