4G LTE MHS29IL no internet but strong signal ?

I tried to use this device for internet service on a Dell laptop and an Acer notebook.  Both have Windows XP SP3 OS.  Service showed all bars on the laptops but could not connect.  I tried multiple re-boots, but no success.  I am located in Nancy, KY.  I have used an older wireless device from Vzn and had no problems.
TIA !

That's good to hear.  There must have been some kind of temporary problem in the Kentucky area that you tried before that has now resolved itself.
Here's a key that might help explain my statement:
Modem: Connects to Service Provider (Verizon, ATT, Comcast, Time Warner, etc) for your Internet Connection
Router: Connects one network to another (Linksys, Netgear, Belkin, etc) and builds your Local Area Network
Switch: Expands a single network connection into many
Mobile Hotspots are a combination of these three networking devices in one unit.  Your home networking equipment usually only performs 1-2 of these duties at a time unless you happened to purchase an all in one device.
One Internet connection at a time means essentially one modem at a time.  Lets say you are in your home with a cable Internet connection and a VZW Jetpack at the same time.  Your cable provider has a modem and your Jetpack has a modem built in.  It would be possible for you hard wire connect to your home router or modem and wirelessly connect to your Jetpack at the same time.  In this situation your computer would be connected to two Internet connections (modems) forcing your OS to pick and choose how to request and receive its Internet traffic.  While it is possible to pull this off with the correct configuration it is likely going to over complicate your environment and cause strange problems.  You would want to disable either your Ethernet cable connection or your Jetpack for troubleshooting so that your computer is only connected to one Internet connection at a time.
Hope that makes sense.  Let us know if you have any other problems or questions.

  • Airport Extreme dropping Internet Despite Strong Signal - Mavericks?

Hi - I've searched in the threads several times but haven't yet been able to find a resolution for this.
The past week or so, my Wifi keeps going out at random intervals. I can restart my router and it will come back up, but eventually it will drop again. Thought it was my internet service OR my router, but everything works super fast and steady if I'm connected directly. I really think it's the connection to my 2 year old Airport Extreme that is causing issues.
The wifi drops (all sites get stuck and say "Resolving Host" before getting a no connection error), but the Airport Extreme light stays green and my WIFI signal shows on my devices with full strength even though it's not working. Again - no problems if I'm connected directly to the internet.
I thought it was a similar problem to this thread, https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2508959?start=120&tstart=0, however I followed those steps (enable IPv6) and the issue is still occuring. My Airport Extreme is running v 7.6.4.
I upgraded about a week ago to Maveicks and wondered if that might have something to do with it? Or if anyone has any other ideas? Any help at all is appreciated - it's been maddening rebooting my modem multiple times a day.

Let me see if I can suggest a strategy.
I have talked with my ISP and he said that I am not the only one with an Airport Extreme with the same issue. He said to try to write the DNS direclty, rather than using the Auto settings - still nothing works.
What modem do you have and what sort of broadband?
What mode is the AE in.. router or bridge?
I have an Airport Express from 2010. Since about a month and definetly since yesterday, I cannot connect any device via Wifi to it although LAN connection works correctly.
Is this express or extreme.. the rest of the post you refer to extreme.
What is the actual model number of the AE? A1xxx from the base or the part number MCxxx from the box.
If the AE is bridge.. I want you to try a different method.. put it in router mode.. don't worry about double NAT but ensure the IP range of the modem /router is different to the AE.. so if one is 192.168.x.x then the AE on default at 10.x.x.x is fine.. if the main router is 10.x then move the AE to 192.168.x.x
Make sure the guest wireless is off.
Using a 5.6 utility on your 10.6.8 OS mini go to the log and see if the wireless is registering..
You should see lists of wireless connection like..
Post as many screenshots of the setup as you can.. it helps loads.
IPv6 is starting to become a pain.. try it off and try local link and try auto.. in the computer.

  • Slow Speeds but Strong Signal

I've been experiencing a frustrating problem recently with my wireless connection on my laptop. The problem has started in the past few weeks. My current setup consist of my laptop (Win XP) sitting on my desk with the WRT150N router residing in one of the desk drawer along with the DSL modem, a small NAS, USB hub, an external DVD burner and power bar. In the past, my laptop always connected at 54 Mbps with the signal strength being Excellent.
For the past few weeks, my laptop connects to the router at 54 Mbps with the signal strength being excellent once I turn on my laptop. After a few minutes, the speed drops to 48 Mbps, then 36 Mbps and then fluctuates between 5.5 Mbps, 2 Mbps, 24 Mbps, 1 Mbps, etc. The signal strength always stays at Excellent. Power cycling the router does not resolve the issue, neither does repairing the network connection.
Here are results from a continuous ping on my router:

Thinking the router might be the cause, I borrowed a WRT54GS router and configured it exactly the same as my WRT150N router. To my surprise, my speeds were still fluctuating as it was previously with the WRT150N router.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could try to resolve this issue? Would installing DD-WRT possibly resolve this issue?
Let me know if you require additional information.
    Thank you

First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
I do have a unique SSID and the SSID Broadcast was enabled.

Since you are getting poor speed between your wireless n router and wireless adapter, make sure the "Radio Band" is set to "Wide".
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4. For wireless n, make sure your standard and wide bands are at least 2 channels apart. For example try standard band on channel 11, and wide band channel 9.
Radio Band was set to "Auto" and has since been changed to "Wide".  Using Network Stumbler, I was able to determine that my strongest neighbors were using channels 1 and 11 so I changed my Wide Channel to 4 and my Standard Channel to 6 - 2.437GHZ.

Also, try to locate the router about 4 to 6 feet above the floor, in an open area. Do not locate it behind your monitor or near other computer equipment or speakers. The antenna should be vertical.
I will attempt to move the router on my desk in the upcoming days instead of having it hidden in a drawer.  The antennas are in a vertical position.

Also, in the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use. If your current network is not listed, enter its info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".
I have removed all listed networks with the exceptio of the one I am currently experiencing issues with.
    toomanydonuts wrote:
If the above does not fix your problem, download and install the latest driver for your wireless card.
I will look on my wireless card's manufacturer website to determine if new drivers are available.
    toomanydonuts wrote:
Some users have reported improved wireless performance by switching to WPA encryption.
I am currently using PSK2 Personal with TKIP or AES Encryption.  To my understanding, PSK2 is WPA2.
    toomanydonuts wrote:
If you continue to have problems, try the following:
For wireless n routers, try setting the "n Transmission Rate" to 162 Mbps, and the (wireless g) "Transmission Rate" to 54 Mbps.
If you still have trouble, download and install the latest firmware for your router. After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch. If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
I will try out my current settings for the next few days.  If the situation does not improve, I will try the above mentionned items.  I realize upgrading the firmware could be beneficial, but would installing DD-WRT be a better option?  I realize I might receive biased opinions here since it is a Linksys forum after all and not a DD-WRT forum.
    Thank you

i am trying to connect to my friend's wifi, i have a very strong signal indicated on my ipad, but cannot connect to the internet.  Yesterday i connected without any problem, can anybody tell me why i cannot connect today?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • WRT610N Woes - strong signal but dropping internet

So I've had a WRT610N since June 2011 - working flawlessly without having to think about it at all, I just plugged it in and it's been on default settings and never gave us any trouble.
About a week ago the power went out - and it caused the router to reset itself to factory settings. I set it back up with our network name and security and didn't think much of it. After that, we started noticing issues on our phones and the laptop in the kitchen.
I work in the same room as the router, on wifi, and have not had the signal drop once since then - my work laptop is about 3-4 feet from the router. Another PC hard-wired through the router works fine
Streaming over the 5GHz band to the tv, one room over, works flawlessly, as does netflix/youtube/etc on the TV.
Once you get to the kitchen, on the laptop in there (which has been there for months without issue), the wifi is totally flaky. This is maybe 40 feet from the router, through only 1 wall. The signal reports 3-4 bars, and windows always reports 'internet access' for the status of the connection, but the connection regularly drops and you must manually disconnect and reconnect to wifi to regain internet access. It is the same story with phones if you are more than about 20 feet from the router - they have a strong signal, but will regularly drop, requiring you to disconnect and reconnect. Both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands appear to be behaving the same way.
Normally, I would just say the power outage fried the thing and get a new one - but it is working flawlessly at short range, and still giving a strong signal at longer range - just not keeping the internet up.
I've factory reset it multiple times since this started happening. I've tried different settings on both bands, different security, no security, etc. But nothing seems to be helping, which is why I'm posting here - help!
    Thank you for reading.

2 days in and no issues yet - I think we can call this resolved for now.

  • The wireless symbol is present and indicates a strong signal, but I can not connect to the Internet.

The wireless symbol is present and indicates a strong signal, but I can not connect to the Internet.  I'm  on my home network and have never had trouble before.  My iPad is current on all updates. I have tried to reset the network settings, nothing has worked.  I can connect to the internet via my iPhone  personal hotspot and all other wireless devices are operating normally on my home wireless network.

I am also having this issue. My boy just got an iPod 4 touch, upgraded to iOS 6. I have a D-Link DGL-4300 108G Wireless Gaming Router. With the iPod I can connect to the router, get an IP address (either DHCP or Static) and even browse through the menu on the router, but I can't connect to the internet.
With a DHCP IP address the iPod give the error "Not connected to the internet" with the static IP address it takes a long time when trying to connect to a website but then it gives the error "server stopped responding".
Clearly the issue is in some setting in the router. I've tried setting up a filter so that the iPod will always have access based on MAC address. I've tried changing the various wireless connection settings, all to no avail. I would greatly appreciate some guidence here.

  • I have a wifi strong signal but anytime i try to browse i will have a message telling me safari is not connected to the internet, what should i do to get connected to the internet.?

can momebody tell me what to do to get connected to the internet?i just got an Ipad2 16gb,i have a strong WIFI signal.two other computer working in the house.

If you have what appears to be a strong signal, but it reports no Internet, then your router is not giving your iPad a connection and the iPad is self assigning an IP which falsely reports a strong signal. Go to Settings/Wi-Fi and tap the arrow to the right of the LAN to which your iPad says that it is connected. If the IP is 169... then you are not getting an IP from your router. Try resetting the router, updating the firmware or restoring it to factory settings. Some older routers do not like newer machines.

    Try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Airport Express gives out strong signal and IP address, but no Internet

I'm trying to solve an Airport problem for a friend who has an Airport Extreme (802.11g) and an Airport Express. The base station is connected to a cable modem. The Airport Express is used in WDS mode to extend the wireless network. There are two computers involved: a MacBook Pro and a Dell with Windows XP. The Airport Express is needed to extend the signal into the room where the Dell is located.
It had been working fine but stopped working and went into "flashing orange light" mode. I tried hard reset but that didn't help; I had to reset it to factory defaults to get it to even respond to the Airport utility.
After the reset, and after reconfiguring the Airport Express, the Airport Express cannot provide Internet access wirelessly. Here are the specific symptoms:
    (a) Computers in the vicinity of the base station (both my friend's MacBook Pro and my own MacBook) can get wireless internet access
    (b) The Dell detects a strong signal from the Airport Express (which is only about two feet away from the Dell's USB WiFi adapter) and gets an IP address from it, but no Internet access
    (c) My own MacBook, when next to the Dell PC, also detects a strong signal from the Airport Express, but also cannot connect to the Internet
    (d) If I connect my MacBook to the Airport Express with an ethernet cable, I can access the Internet
I have tried both with and without wireless encryption and it makes no difference: no wireless Internet access from the Airport Express.
Is this a configuration issue or is it a hardware problem with the Airport Express?

You are going to have to give us more information. How were your iMac and iPhones getting internet access before the AirPort Express? How was your equipment wired up before, and how is it wired up now?

  • My wifi shows a strong signal but then i cannot connect to the internet (safari or apps). what is wrong? internet is working fine on my laptop.

My wifi shows a strong signal but then i cannot connect to the internet (safari or apps). what is wrong? internet is working fine on my laptop.

Is this a new issue with your iPad meaning that you have been able to connect to the Internet in the past?
If it worked before try rebooting your router - unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.
Sometimes restarting the iPad is all it takes as well. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
You can also reset Network Settings - go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.Or go to Settings>WiFi>tap the blue arrow next to your network>Forget this Network. In either of those cases, you will have to rejoin your WiFi network and enter your password again.

  • Strong Signal, No Internet, FAQ didn't help

    Hi.
I have been using a WRT54G v.6 for three months without a problem. Yesterday, I lost electricity in my house for about 20 seconds. Ever since the power came back up, I get strong signal, but no Internet connectivity, with either a wireless or wired connection to the router.
I know that my cable modem is working: If I bypass the router and plug any of my computers into the cable modem itself, the Internet works fine. None of the settings on the router appear to have changed.
The thing that troubles me is that the router doesn't work with a wited connection to it, eiter.
I have unplugged the router, waited a minute, and plugged it back in. Same problem.
I have hit the "reset" button on the router. Nothing.
I have powered down both the cable modem and the router, then powered both up. Nothing.
My computers are a Dell Latitude D810 running Windows XP and a Mac iBook G4 running Mac OS X 10.3.9. Both have the same problem which occurred at the same time.
Both computers can receive wireless access at the local Internet cafe.
All signs point to the router.
None of the suggestions on the Linksys FAQ seemed to address this issue.
    Any suggestions?

how bout try pressing and holding the reset button for 1 min. then turn-off the router and modem. after 5 mins turn the modem back on then the router. if still that doesn't solve the issue. upgrade the firmware of your router. i've just visited the download site of linksys and the latest firmware for this router is 1.01.
    have a nice day!

  • TS1398 I have an iPad 2 that is updated and using 6.0.1. It is connecting to my wifi just fine. I just purchased a 4th generation iPad. It shows it is connected to the same wifi, same strong signal, but it will not work. HELP!!!

I have an iPad 2 that is updated and using 6.0.1. It is connecting to my wifi just fine. I just purchased a 4th generation iPad. It shows it is connected to the same wifi, same strong signal, but it will not work. HELP!!!
