4G LTE SCH-LC11 NO Connectivity

I purchased a Samsung 4G LTE SCH-LC11 October 25.  It worked out of the box connecting to four different PCs and three operating systems (XP,Vista and Windows 7).  On or about12/1/11the HP laptop running Vistacould not connect to the web.  The PC could connect to the Hotspot but could not get through to the web.  When looking at the Hotspot from another computer I could not see the computer as connected.  Went to the local VZ retailer and they fiddled with the device and computer for about 30 mins, then brought in tech support.  After running through the same hoops I did, and the store rep, tech support said “bad hotspot, bad!”  A new Hotspot arrived via USPS a few days later. <-That was the good news
I installed the Hotspot 3 out of 4 computers have a connection (Strong 4G).  I ran all of the trouble shooting drills again with no joy.  I called VZ Tech support and worked through the tier I guy and was handed off to the tier II person.  After a few min.s  the recommendation was “you need a new driver for your network adopter”.  Wellll I had a bit of a problem with this because I had already disabled the internal adopter and substituted a USB that was working fine on another computer and I had taken the laptop to the local library and was able to connect to the internet on their WiFi signal.  Adapter is working.  But strange things happen in these little boxes.  I updated the driver.  No connection.
Here are the steps I have taken to correct this issue:
Updated the internal adapter driver
Disabled the internal adapter and swapped an external USB
Reset the TCP/IP stacks
Disabled the Firewall
Did a system reset to11/18/11
Removed the virus protection
Started in SAFE Mode with Networking and tried the TCP/IP resets.
Checked that MAC blocking was not on.
Anybody out there in Whoville know how to get this HP G60 Laptop back on line through the SCH-LC11 Hotspot?  The real problem is that the LAP top is the personal property of She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed and she is holding my Christmas gifts hostage. Not really nice for one senior citizen to do to another, is it?

I've found Vista networking to be very buggy. Here are various things that have seemed to help me in the past...
Use Device Manager to disable all but one network adapter on the computer (all but the wireless adapter that you're using).
On the computer, go to Control Panel, Internet Options, Connections tab, click the Lan Settings button.  Then, uncheck the "Automatically Detect Settings" checkbox.
Disable IPv6 on the wireless adapter.
Use different DNS servers (OpenDNS or Google).
Can you still ping sites from the laptop even though you can't connect to web pages?
Also, have you tried disabling security settings on the hotspot?
Only one network adapter is enabled
Changed Internet options
Disabled IPv6
cannot ping
CANNOT connect to internet.
I have not changed DNS Servers yet, (Havent done it before and need to do a little research)
I have looked at the Security page on the hot spot and do not see an option to disable.  Can you provide a little more info as to what I am looking for??

It's good to read Antoniad's post.  It reassures me that I can use my new iPad as an international communication device which is the reason I purchased the thing.  However, I called Verizon today (my provider of cellular data) who told me that I can't just pop in a SIM card as you suggested.  He also said that he was from the "Pre-Pay" division of Verizon and he was certain that I couldn't do what I planned to do.  I was extremely disappointed as I had called Apple prior to buying the iPad and I read the algorhythm on the website for choosing an iPad before purchasing.  Those sources were quite specific and the information seemed clear.  I would be able to use my iPad to communicate through cellular connections while traveling on the road, literally, abroad.  I was told that I could pop in a data card wherever I was, just as you indicated in your message above, and voila I was good to go.  The Verizon rep definitively rained on that parade, but said that I might be able to do this if I have a "Post-Pay" account, a different area of Verizon.  I haven't had the chance to talk to this division yet, so I looked to Apple's Support for answers.  Maybe I will find out that I can use my iPad as an international communication device while traveling on the road afterall, however, it appears I may need a different type of account (Post-Pay), something I was never warned about. Can I switch to this kind of account?  I don't know.  I have to find out.  If you have any information about this issue, it would be good to share since I strongly suspect there are others who bought the iPad for the same purpose that I have.

  • The service provided by the Samsung SCH-LC11 Mi-Fi device, and/or the 4G LTE service, is unusable.

I got the Samsung SCH-LC11 Mi-Fi device and 4G LTE service from Verizon about one week ago here in the Chicago area.
(Note: the first thing I did was update to the latest firmware (EF07) per the Samsung website.)
I am using it with my AT&T iPhone 4 with "Cellular Data" on the phone turned off completely.
I ran all the speed tests, 10 megabit up/down, wow, great.
Unfortunately, there are at least two major problems with it:
    1)  I noticed almost immediately that push emails stopped coming to my iPhone after a few minutes.
After looking into this in more detail I realized the following:
       a)  The modem inside the Mi-Fi device is being assigned a 10-Net / "carrier-grade NAT" IP address, not a real Internet IP address.  Fine, I don't really care as long as it works.  I am not trying to use a VPN, or do VoIP, or run some webcam somewhere.  In other words I'm not a "revenue leak" in Verizon "parlance" (I worked at Motorola during the OBEX fiasco days), but it's nice to know I'm being treated as such right off the bat.
       b)  The "carrier grade NAT" appears to have a TCP timeout of no more than two minutes.  I verified this by opening a telnet session to somewhere and not typing something for two minutes.  After the two minutes I typed another character, but it never got echoed back and the connection was dropped.  After waiting only a minute and a half, it lagged a little but sprang back to life.
       c)  Problem is, push email relies on having an open TCP connection that is idle the vast majority of time.  When an email comes in, the Exchange ActiveSync server sends a message back out to the device (over the existing connection) saying the mailbox has changed.  Unfortunately, after two minutes of idle, the "carrier grade NAT" has dropped the translation entry a long time ago, so the connection is dead.
So I emailed support about this.  (the ticket is "WFM87599752").
In the first round they told me to go look in the device's settings @ http://192.168.1.1.  Yeah, did that already.
In round two, they blamed the dormancy timer.  That's obviously not it, since the modem is layer two and knows nothing about TCP at all.  Just to be sure though, I performed the test again, but this time I had a DOS window pinging Yahoo repeatedly so the modem wouldn't become dormant.  Problem still happened.  I saved the Wireshark PCAP here so anyone can see:  http://home.comcast.net/~abcbwtxyz/two_minutes.pcap  Frame #339 is where I try to type again, never to hear back.
    2)  The other problem is that as soon as a second person connects to the Mi-fi device over Wi-fi, the first person gets dropped almost immediately, and can't even reconnect again afterward.  I mean, really?  Made this video to illustrate:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iadz4DGXFRM
So, can someone help?  I know I'm not the only one having these problems; I sent the support alias the following links just as examples, there are many more:
    http://himself.wordpress.com/2011/04/30/verizon-wireless-issuing-private-ip-addresses-to-3g-customers-class-a-nat-joy-and-gross-ineptitude-verizon-wireless-3g-fraudulent-enticement/

    -Chris

So just to follow up on this.  I called to cancel today.  The CSR wanted me to talk to tech support about my problems and talk me out of cancelling so I said fine.  Summary of conversation:
    1)  Immediate acknowledgment that the two minute timeout of idle connections is by design, and no dispute that it breaks push email.
    2)  Disagreement with the claim that a second person logging on kicks off the first, even though I offered proof.  Dismissed my point that other people have seen the same exact thing, saying that if you look up problems other people are having on the Internet, people say anything and everything.
Anyway, I continued with the cancellation; to their credit, they waived the activation fee and credited me for "time served", so I won't owe anything.  I did appreciate that.

  • Samsung 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot SCH–LC11

Have the Samsung 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot card (use with my tablet). My desktop PC does not have wireless capability. What are my options to connect my desktop to the Hotspot card?  I have read that buying a special WIFI USB adapter will work, or installing a PCI Wireless card into the computer. Also, once I do either of these options, do I still need a wireless router of some sort or will the desktop be able to connect without a special router?
I would rather not connect the Samsung hotspot card directly to the desktop via some special wire as I have read that this method will only allow the card to be used with the desktop and won't allow other devices (laptop, tablet, itouch) to connect to it during such time.
What are the most economical WIFI USB adapters to buy? I am not a heavy user just internet browsing.
What is the most economical and easiet PCI card to buy if I should go this route?

I am trying to use the Samsung SCH-LC11 on Verizon as well. All my devices (MBA 13", iPad 2, iPhone 4) see the wifi signal but no data will transfer. I have tried adding my MAC addresses to the Samsung's security settings and I have performed several hard resets. No love. Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Samsun SCH-LC11 4G Hotspot SLOW!

Got mine today.  Luckily, I don't deal with VPN much which they apparently have screwed up (http://community.vzw.com/t5/4G-Discussion/Samsung-SCH-LC11-Blocks-Microsoft-VPN/td-p/489618), something about this being a Home device not a Business Device ?? Right, purchased it off the Small Business page.
In my case, I'm not seeing great speed at all.   With a Thunderbolt sitting next to me getting 25MB, I'm seeing perhaps 2.5mb ??
I've seen panatech modems in operation near here getting 18-20mb so why am I getting such slow speeds?
Pings are like 455ms and a speed test places the hotspot in sounthern calif when I am in the Phoenix metro area.
I have a solid Green 4G light and the admin page looks like it has four boxes for the LTE 4G connection (they don't look like bars)
Don't see any update mechinism on the modem configuration pages for updating location/config etc...
BTW I get a lot of resets talking to the Hotspot via the admin page.  Sitting right next to the device with 99% Signal.

Update.  Spent the better part of an hour and more with Support on this.
    Couple things...
    1) we did the complete, reboot, reset thing with no change
    2) I finally was able to test the device with another computer and phone (Droid) and it performed much better with those.
I have tried 3 phones (all droids) with typical down 7Mbps-10Mbps and up 1Mbps-3Mbps which for me is good enough.  Not anything like what the Thunderbolt users are getting but I have heard their up is kinda of bogus due to buffering using the speedtest app.
I have tried it on 5 additional notebooks and netbooks, again with good results.   Some upwards of 12Mbsp down with the best in the 19Mbps range.
Signal at both work and home is basically 100% or close to it.  So that is not the issue (coverage in Metro Phoenix appears to be good everywhere I go).  The web GUI makes it hard to see what the signal is, look like 4 Bars or boxes (they don't look like bars anymore in the web Gui).  The modem status shows typically 97% or around there.
So what is the problem... seems that the device which I actually got this primarily for, an HP Slate 500 is havig difficulty communicating with the device.  Speed is terrible and you can really see there is something wrong in that it times out all the time while using the web GUI admin pages on it even while sitting right next to the device.
Checking with HP on this now.  Note that most of the other notebooks I tested were HP's as well so it seem strange that the Slate would have issues with it.  It is unexpected as I have no other problems with other access points with the Slate.
Will try it at work tomorrow (today) on a couple iPad's and a iPad2 as well as a Xoom and Galaxy Tab to see if there are any issues there.

  • Samsung SCH-LC11 New Firmware

    Hi All,
I was suprised to see this update when i checked for it manually. I used to get emails of these updates but didnt get any for this.
This update is purportedly supposed to fix the dreaded WiFi Disconnect Issue. I just upgraded mine and it seems ok so far.
Would love the community to check this out and post the results.
    thanks

I upgrade mine two weeks ago and seems to be running a lot better.  The only issue I'm having is that it shuts off for some reason and the battery is red hot.
I think I found out my issue.  The SCH-LC11 battery was very low (1%-5%) and in LTE mode it was consuming the battery faster than my laptop could charge it, even plugging it into the wall didn't help.
One of the flaws of the LC11 is that the device consumes more power that a computer (or the charger that comes with it) can provide. So the battery will eventually run down even it the LC11 is connected to a power supply.

  • Samsung SCH-LC11 4G MIFI mobile hotspot - First Impressions #2

Yesterday, I received two Samsung 4G MIFIs to add to our corporate plan.  These are also to serve as test units for evaluation for a possible upgrade of our 14 other 3G data lines (PCMCIA). Here are my first thoughts and impressions regarding this device.  I apologize in advance for the length of the post and some of the more simple descriptions that might not need to be included.  I've found that sometimes these minor steps become helpful to others with troubleshooting issues.  I've found that they sometimes end up as "AH HA!" moments.
Out of the box:  As soon as I opened the box, I was impressed by the size and styling of the adapter.  Having not used or even seen one in person, it was a bit smaller than I was expecting.  It's certainly small enough to fit into a shirt or pants pocket. For those that have not seen one, it's approximately half the height of a pack of cigarettes lying down.
Initial Setup:  In general, this couldn't have been much simpler.  After following the basic instructions (install battery, power on, connect and login), it was ready go.  No activation phone number to call like I'm used to.  *Reading other posts, it looks like these adapters don't always come pre-configured like mine was.  It already had the SIM card installed and was ready to go.  This must be a friendly service my local distributor does.
I love the fact that this unit does not need VZAccess Manager to run.  Simply plugging the USB cable into a laptop will start charging the battery without putting it into a "single user" mode like other adaptors do.  This simplifies things for IT administrators, as you don't have to explain multiple scenarios for how to use the device.  Plus there are fewer options for the end user to mess things up.
Advanced Setup: This is where things start getting fun.  My first task was to change the SSID and security key.  I navigate over to the Network->WIFI tab. It took me a minute to figure out the whole profile thing, but when I went to make my changes on the "Manual Configuration" side, something still seemed out of place.  I had drop down menus that didn't have any text in its fields.
                      Blank Field
This lead to a bit more confusion as to how the profiles worked.  I decided to change things up and switch from IE 8.0.7601 to FireFox 4.0.  Using FireFox, everything looked in place.  I proceeded to configure the settings and then selected "apply".  Apparently this wasn't the option I needed as all my settings reverted back.  It looks like you need to select "Update Profile" first before applying the active profile.  Great, now we are up and running!
Note: Both of my devices are running AP/Modem firmware: EC04
Speed Test:  Curious to see how these new devices performed, I ran a number of speed tests while connected.  My area has yet to be 4G enabled, so I wasn't expecting much in terms of an improvement with the 3G.  On average I was getting 1mbps down and 500kbps up.  This is actually slower than our current 3G cards that average 1.5mbps down and 768kbps up.  Hopefully we get the 4G service sooner rather than later.
Deal Breaker:  VPN.  For my company, we use Windows VPN access.  I spent a little time trying to connect to the VPN with this adaptor.  For some reason I could not get past the authentication.  I tried from multiple machines, using different OSes, still no luck.  I contemplated making some changes on the server side, but decided against it as all other VPN connections (including 3G adaptors) were fine.  That led me to these forums in search of an answer.  More specifically, the current post on the exact same issue I was seeing.
    http://community.vzw.com/t5/4G-Discussion/Samsung-SCH-LC11-Blocks-Microsoft-VPN/td-p/489618
I will do some additional testing, including some changes on the VPN server, but might have to send these back.
Summary:  They look like great little devices, but in my opinion, are currently not quite suited towards some business environments.  This could perhaps change with a firmware update or two.

Sorry to take so long to reply....  I now have a support community set up at http://www.netsubnet.com, or you can touch the support button on the SETUP tab inside of HotSpotSam.
Yes, that's the second request for signal strength, so it's on the planned feature list.  I'm currently working on integrating the real artwork so that it's easier to see the current status - and the app looks a lot better too.
Next up is putting the status messages into a real log so if there's a problem or you just want to see what the app has been doing, you can scroll through it.
Also, I'll be putting the most common questions into an in-app help screen.
Then I'll work with the artist on the best way to show the signal bars on the main screen.  The RSSI number on the INFO tab is the Received Signal Strength Indication (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Received_signal_strength_indication) ie "Signal Strength" so the info is out there just need to display it.
I'd also like to add an option to beep on low battery.
There have been thousands of downloads so I guess people find it useful!  It would be nice if more people would rate and review, too.
    Thanks for your suggestions.

  • Samsung SCH-LC11 4G WIFI Standby

I know this is a result of the awful firmware with the device and want to see if anyone has figured out a fix.
My Samsung SCH-LC11 unit locks up and Green Light under the WIFI button stays constantly lit. In the manual it says that it is in Standby mode.
How do I get this to stop ?
    Thanks....

    Hello,
Based on the user manual, simply press the power button to get it out of standby mode. After 30 minutes of inactivity, the device will go into standby mode.  Please view the link below for access to the user manual:

  • SCH-LC11,  new windows 8 laptop boots all other devices off

We just purchased a new Windows 8 MSI laptop. We cannot get any other device to connect when it is using our SCH-LC11. So,we can have a Windows 7 Dell laptop, our Dell Streak and our 2 Droid phones connected, but when we connect with this new laptop, all others get dumped. We can log into the device and don't see anything amiss.
as soon as that new laptop is disconnected, everything else auto connects again. What's up with that, this is VERY frustrating!  We bought the second laptop for us to not have to share one laptop while on the road, this is very disheartening!

  • Samsung SCH-LC11 edit settings file

Does anyone know how to edit the settings file on a Samsung SCH-LC11.  Specifically I want to allow it to still operate as a hotspot while charging.
I've seen a post on Cnet for a different Samsung hotspot for this.  When I export the settings file on the SCH-LC11 it is not readable in notepad.  What program do I need to read the file?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Mark

        Hello jmarkh,
The LC11 hotspot can be used while charging. Simply, turn it on and connect your wi-fi enabled devices. Once connected, you can plug the hotspot to the charge and the charger to a wall socket. Voila! If you have any additional questions then don't hesitate to reply to this message. ^AH

  • Samsung SCH-LC11 experience in Las Vegas - not good

I was in Las Vegas last week for the HP Discover 2011 convention.  This was a 10,000+ sized conference.
I have two datacards one from Sprint and the other Verizon, both 4G and WiFi connect.  Both carriers have, at least according to the website, good coverage and I had a good signal showing.  The event was held at The Venetian and my hotel was next door at Harrahs.
I ended up using my Sprint device most of the time.
First day, Sunday, Verizon was good.  Monday could not get a 4G connection, or a 4G connection but data would not flow.  3G sometimes and very slow..  Had trouble next two days.  Called Verizon and tech walked through normal stuff (turned on, signal, WiFi settings, etc...).  We ended up resetting the device with the button under the battery cover and got it to work.  At least until the following day when I was back to square one with the same original issues and could not use Verizon until I restored it to factory settings (used the browser interface this time).
Litterally, would power up my Sprint and I was going.  This was clearly an issue with the SCH-LC11 and not my laptop.
With an event of that size naturally the wireless networks were busy or swamped.  But I was very surprised and disappointed at how quickly the Verizon was not usable.  4G may not yet be ready for prime time.
If you travel, must have an Internet connection and are counting on this device/service, you might want to consider having a second carrier available.
I was very pleased with Verizon tech support and even got a followup call, but I could not use the device when I really needed it.

    Hello dalewood,
I do understand the importance of being connected at all times.  I know you are no longer in that area for us to further assist, but I do want to inquire if everything is working well for you now?

  • Samsung SCH-LC11 4G Hotspot  4g LED not lit

Just got the Samsung SCH-LC11 4G Hotspot today. I live in an area where 4g is not available. The 3G LED is green and I have no issue accessing the internet but the 4G led is not lit at all. The manual gives no reason for the led to be dark. Any ideas?

Which lights for 4G / EVDO indicates which mode the Hotspot is working in.  Only 1 mode can be used at a time.
If you are in an area where there is no 4G then the modem is not operating in 4G mode so the EVDO light should be lit instead.
You can see the modem status by using the Admin Web GUI (http://192.168.1.1) under Configuration -> Diagnostics.
When you press the Modem button, it will display info about the modem values, 2 of which will be the Signal for EVDO and 4G.

  • SCH-LC11 constant disconnects

Does Vzw or Samsung have a plan for making this device usable?

Not that I've seen.  The promised firmware update is LONG overdue.  I got this thing to be able to access some work stuff that is behind a PPTP VPN, which the SCH-LC11 is not compatible with currently.  The webpage I bought it from said "VPN Compatible" so it's pretty disappointing.  Are you having a different problem?
