4G outage in Des Moines, Iowa AGAIN
Had to switch to 3G and even it's sporadic. Anyone else??
I've noticed sporadic outage of 3G data service (the only G we have) in Bend, Oregon this afternoon. There would be no data for a few minutes than it would be back. And earlier this afternoon it showed "3G" with 3 bars of strength, but I did a speed test and it was barely 1x-speed.

Des Moines, IA Metro LTE Slow
Hello,
Is there an issue or over saturation in the Des Moines, IA metro area (50309)? Everyday from about 9am-6pm the LTE speed/network is almost non-existent. Running speed tests from multiple verizon devices (iOS, Android and Windows Phone) in the area produce anywhere from 0Mbps-2Mpbs down with half-full LTE signal. Trying to browse and email is painful at best. Tests on other devices with T-Mobile "4G" are getting 5-6Mpbs consistently with no issues.
Is there an issue with this area? Is Verizon working on increasing tower coverage or implementing AWS to help with newer devices?

I'd like to comment on this as well. I've been calling VZW numerous times only to be told that there is "no" capacity problems in the Des Moines area. But honestly that is not true. I work for a networking manufacturer and its unuseable in a large part of the city which is unacceptable.
Downtown des moines iowa (50309) full LTE bars dialup speeds. West Des Moines Jordan Creek area dialup speeds with full LTE bars. North side of des Moines in the beaverdale dialup speeds and little to no coverage.
Personally I think a call to the FCC is in order to lodge a complaint about this because this is unacceptable. Anyone else interested in lodging a complaint? I did get through to some woman who claims to have been in the executive team and she said I was free to cancel my contract and go with another company. So honestly you all have two choices, go with AT&T which is not as good as VZW or VZW fixes their capacity problems.
The VZ pop is on 6th and walnut downtown for crying out loud!

Licensing for Acrobat 9 Pro has quit working - How to fix this
I just subscribed to the Photography plan that gives me access to Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5. I already own Design Creative Suite CS3 and Adobe Acrobat Pro (9). When I downloaded the application manager and began to download PS & LR it showed all applications and most listed as the option "Try" and on Acrobat XI Pro it indicated "Up To Date." Once I downloaded and installed the PS & LR applications I tried to open a .pdf to do some research. I got the following message as Acrobat Pro tried to open:
Licensing for this product has stopped working.
You cannot use this product at this time. You must repair the
problem by uninstalling and then reinstalling this product or
contacting your IT adminstrator or Adobe customer support
for help.
I uninstalled Acrobat XI and Acrobat 9 from my computer, restarted it, then re-installed Acrobat Pro 9 from the CS3 installation disk. When done I tried to open a .pdf and got the same message. I restarted the computer and tried again and got the same message. I then did a Verify Permissions & Repair Permissions and Checked the Disc. (BTW this is all on a Mac with Snow Leopard 10.6.8 o/s. I have the 10.8 Mountain Lion o/s disk on the way, so I can't install/use LR 5 until that is done. anyway...)
Since it is Sunday and there is NO Adobe Customer Support and there is no IT department in my house, what do you think I should do? As an aside, the initial download/install for Photoshop CC hung at 44% installed. I did online chat with Bhartha at Adobe and he managed to do nothing but make my system worse. So I got away from him and repaired the damage he caused when I did the "screen share" operation with him. IM not so HO, Adobe's support system, what's the technical term?, SUCKS. If I had any good options to Photoshop and Lightroom I would use them, but for now I'd be stuck with something worse, like GIMP and Aperture. Okay, that's my rant about the sub-standard approach Adobe has to support. Apparently they feel that once you have their product then you're stuck with it and if they give you crappy service, so what? I hopefully await the day when Adobe gets bought and ruined by Microsoft. Like the old days when the phone company was one big corporation. Their motto: We Don't Care. We Don't Have To. Adobe seems to have adopted that idea.
Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problemEverything was fine until I downloaded & installed PS CC. I had a copy of Acrobat 9 I had purchased. There was also a folder for AA XI I had previously downloaded as a Cloud member, but had cancelled that and did not use AA XI. Everything in CS worked fine for the last 2-3 years, until this download. As I stated, the download "hung" on install the first time at 44% install & I contacted Adobe via the chat line. Why a download of Photoshop CC would wreak havoc on my functional Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro (or XI Pro, for that matter), is something they couldn't explain, and they couldn't fix. They provided no help whatsoever...in point of fact the tech guy didn't actually seem to know how to navigate on a Mac. First thing he did, using the "Screen Share" process, was open the Parallels partition and boot Windows. And since this problem had nothing to do with my Windows/Parallel partition it was clear he didn't have a clue. Everything he did after that just confirmed his ineptitude, right up until I turned the computer off to get rid of him.
At any rate, I used the step-by-step procedures delineated in 3 other forum discussion threads which all said do the same thing. I did. It did not help. Of course I will call Adobe tomorrow and I'm sure they will not have any solution either. Which is why I unsubscribed to the Cloud account. Every time they had updates for any application the installs would fail and then the previously installed programs wouldn't work and I would have to uninstall & reinstall EVERYTHING. That was their solution. The brilliant minds of Adobe Tech Support in action. "Did you try powering if off and then back on...?"
At risk of being seen as a person with an actual opinion based on experience, I will say that ADOBE TECH PERSONNEL ARE MORONS. Of course they're in Kuala Lumpur or some other seemingly exotic place (unless, of course, that's where you are, in which case Des Moines, Iowa seems exotic), so maybe they don't get very good training on the products they are supposed to support. Adobe doesn't care about good support. They already have your money and they pretty much have a monopoly on a few of their niches (Photoshop, Lightroom). Any place you can find another manufacturer's product that competes with Adobe, for example Corell's Painter vs. Adobe Illustrator, the other manufacturer's product is ALWAYS BETTER. ALWAYS. So I am stuck with Adobe products due to occupational need, and stuck with their sub-standard support. Whether by design or omission, ADOBE DOES NOT SUPPORT THEIR PRODUCTS. In point of fact, I DESPISE these clowns. I just am forced to deal with them against my desires and better judgment. Probably why homicide is illegal. -
Would like to know how old my system is
Hi, I just bought my mac, I am having trouble finding things that are compatible with it on the internet, aka downloads, magic jack, and so on. I was at the apple store in Des Moines, Iowa at Jordan Creek Town-center this past week and they told me that my system is 5 -8 yrs old. Not real quick with Mac's so I really need assistance with understanding weather or not I got ripped off. PLEASE help.

From your computer information you are running OSX 10.4.11, Tiger. Although this is now officially retired, it is only just retired and is still well supported and actually much in demand. Lots of us are running 5-8 year old computers that do everything we want/need them to do. There's lots of software still out there for Tiger, from freeware to expensive commercial packages.
Note that in general there is not as much software written for the Mac as there is for Windows and you may have to visit specific web sites which cater to Mac owners. Versiontracker, Macupdate, pure-mac.com, etc.
Ripped off? Well that depends upon how much you paid and lots of details about the system hardware and software which you'd have to tell us. If you go to the apple menu in the upper left hand corner of the screen you can select "about this Mac" which is a place to start, and then "more info" which will run System Profiler and tell you more than you want to know. -

I use Dreamweaver CS4 for designing our school website. The url is http://www.stpiusxschool.org
The menu bar on the left is built with a Spry Asset, it is to expand to different choices on some of the lines. The issue started about a month ago, if I click on the first item that should expand out (Parent Resources) it will not expand out, then I choose the second one (Student Resources) it expands out, I go back to Parent Resources and it will expand....this happen on Mac 10.5 and Ios Devices (Ipad, and Iphone)
On Mac 10.6 menu bars will never expand out.
I have tried many things, I have ran the Spry Updater and uploaded those files. I have built a page outside of my site, it appears to work ok, then copied that Spry Asset folder into the site, no luck.
I have built a second spry on a test page within the site, and tried it out, it doesn't seem to work correct either. It can be accessed off the main page mentioned above, scroll to the bottom and click on test, that is just what it is a test page.
School is starting soon and this site is used a lot for resources during the day.
I have called Adobe and got no where with them but that even took hours.
If someone could help me out that would be awesome.
By the way, I know nothing about coding itself.

I have a tabular model that has States (StateID, StateName)
Then I have Cities (CityID, StateID,CityName)
Employees(EmpID, CityID, Login ID)
When I then go and setup a row filter so that my Employees table filters on their windows login name so they only see a few CITYIDs per employee.

The table Cities is related to States via PK States[StateID] and FK Cities[StateID] (so the arrow goes from Cities and points to States)
What gets odd here is that when I connect with a user who only has cities in 2 states, I see OTHER states for which that user has no cities.
I don't understand that. If they have Cities of Des Moines (Iowa) and Madison (Wisconsin) why are they seeing any states other than those two states?

IPhone time when "set automatically" off by 2 minutes (AT&T?)
I've noticed that the time on my iPhone is about 2 minutes behind what actual time is. I am in Des Moines, Iowa, so perhaps there is some issue with the signal AT&T is sending, but my girlfriend's iPhone also is two minutes off.
Has anyone else noticed the the automatic time on their AT&T iPhone is not accurate?
(In my case, accurate time is the time I am seeing on Mac OS X when using the "Set date & time automatically" option in the Date & Time control panel; if I compare at www.time.gov I find the same time, so it sure looks like AT&T is sending the wrong time out.)When time is set to automatic on the iPhone, the iPhone displays the time which is being fed to it by the tower to which it is connected at any given moment. Thus if the tower is not set correctly, the iPhone will display the wrong time. You can call AT&T to notify them of significant errors, but switching the iPhone to manual time setting is better in areas where there are significant irregularities, particularly if time stamps vary greatly between towers!

New Retina Screen VS. Prior Anti-Glare Screen
Just came from the Apple Store in beautiful West Des Moines, Iowa. Wanted to check this new Retina box out for myself.
Very nice image, for sure. I was expecting, though, less glare. It seems not to have as much glare as the prior incarnation's glossy screen, but more glare than the prior incarnations anti-glare screen.
Also, I ran the trailer for The Avengers on each machine side-by-side. I must say, the prior version's anti-glare screen seemed better. Not just in the anti-glare department, but overall image. And when I froze the same frame, it wasn't even close; the Retina screen was blurry and the anti-glare image (of Hulk) was smooth.
Now, I am curious if anyone else tries this out if they will have the same outcome. Could there be a legit reason why the obviously better image quaity of the Retina screen (look at the desktop) actually looks worse running this trailer?None of the ThB drives on the market (few as they are after a whole 18 months in Macs) offer multi ports; in other words, they don't also have FW800 or USB or even eSATA - just ThB. That sounds like a requirement vs. what the manfacturers probably would like to do. Their forcing ThB down our throats - sure, you can buy 'old legacy tech' as they put it, but all ths means is the next versions will be ThB only as well. This, despite few drive options.
By default, you seem to be defending Apple putting out tech a month ahead of an adapter, which makes no sense. All they had to do was change a timeline for release on one or the other. Instead, they push out the 1.0 Retina MBP with no way to connect to the 'legacy' tech they pushed on us for a decade. So - yes - I will wait to buy if I buy at all, no, I won't buy a $2,300 box that cannot read any of my other four drives. Duh. -

I'm completely new to Logic and have been trying to learn it on my own from an instructional DVD, but am having problems learning it this way. I would like to find someone to learn from. I can not find schools near the area of Des Moines, IA. I have talked to people who own studios in the area who agreed to teach me in exchange for cash and then they quit answering my calls before any money was exchange or lessons were given. I haven't found anyone on this site on the registry who is certified in Logic in Iowa. Traveling out of state is not an option because I am currently in college here. I would like to become certified eventually. I am using/have purchased Logic Studio. Any tips or suggestions? In order to call Israel landline you need a subscription from Skype, which you already have, but yes, you don't need a mobile operator to use Skype in WiFi zone. Same app is used on iPod Touch that doesn't support GSM calls over mobile operators, but it works with Skype since it can use WiFi.
Something similar to Tango and Viber, but as far as I know Viber doesn't let you call landline/mobile numbers, only other Viber members.

hi! after the outage all is working fine again, BUT in the browser the emails in INPUT are empty with the date 01.01.1970... you can only see the emails where it comes from! cheers....
Same here... on the web app at icloud.com I see more than 50 emails without content, all dated 1.1.1970. The mail clients on OS X and iOS show a couple of those "without content" from 1970, but the new ones (from yesterday and today) are displayed just fine. I can read them, delete them, all fine.
The web app doesn't show one single message since tuesday correctly, they're all empty. And it's impossible to delete them, or do anything with them.
The messages I lost (the ones that don't even show content on my Mac, iPhone or iPad) are all from friends and family - so the loss of the content isn't a problem. But it does bother me that I can't delete them.
If someone managed to get rid of those emails from the past, please let me know ;))
The problem with the web app seems to be some weird server glitch, I hope it will get sorted by Apple eventually. -

I have been a loyal customer for 18 years, is it time for me to switch providers?I have the same problem I have spent hours trying to contact verizon I was told I would receive a ticket then an tech person would come out and check what was going on. I have had my plan for more then 10 years my service at my home was so good probably 5 years ago I got rid of my landline and only have a cell phone. About 6 weeks ago the service in my home started to decrease it is so bad I have to sit outside on my top step to place or receive a call I was sent a text message from a verizon tech telling me that I'm in a marginal area and they can't help that I no longer have service there for they are doing nothing. I'm waiting for a price quote from AT&T there rep said if my phone did not work in my house they would provide me free of charge a signal booster

I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you not one but two absolutely horrific customer service experiences that I have had with Best Buy. These situations have been so bad that I would be doing your company a disservice by not sharing this. Please note the subject line contains two different orders. The first order was placed online November 16th. I’d like to start my story there.
My mother in law and father in law are both elderly and disabled and on fixed income. It came to my attention during a visit with them on November 14th that their current dishwasher was broken and that a service call to repair it would be nearly as much as a new dishwasher. As a result, I decided to place an order online with bestbuy.com for a new replacement dishwasher. I was quoted a delivery date of November 29, which was a little further out than what I would have preferred, but I understand that this is a busy time of year, so I notified my in-laws of the delivery date. I was told that I would receive a call the day before delivery with a two hour window of time to have the dishwasher delivered.
November 28th came and went and I did not receive a call with a delivery window, so I decided to call shortly before 5 PM CST. The operator let me know that the window had not been determined yet and that they had until 9 to give me a call but that I was indeed on the schedule for delivery. Nine PM came and went with no call. I was disappointed.
At 8 AM on November 29th, I called the customer service number. I was told that someone from Best Buy was trying to get in touch with the dispatcher at your contracting company and would call me back within 30 minutes to give me my delivery window. I waited for more than two hours without a returned call, so I called again. I was told that the rep wasn’t sure what happened but that I was indeed on the schedule for the day and that they would call me to tell me when the dishwasher would be delivered. These first two calls took place when I was driving from Des Moines to Chicago.
I arrived in Chicago and still hadn’t received a call. I’m sure you can appreciate that I was frustrated at this point but I finally got someone who I felt had some kind of idea what was going on. I was told that yes, the dishwasher was still scheduled to be delivered on the 29th (it was almost 5 PM by this time) but that installation of the dishwasher was not included. Of course, I said no problem, I’ll just add that to the order. I was informed at that time that it wasn’t possible. The specific reason I don’t recall but I did confirm that installation is not a purchase option when purchasing online. I was advised that my best option would be to go into a physical store and cancel the existing order and place a new one. The agent told me that I could cancel the order with her if I’d like, but I told her I wanted to keep the order open in the event that the delivery team showed up, and that I would handle the installation myself. The agent did advise that the order was in an “R” status, but wasn’t really sure what that meant, It should come as no surprise at this point that the dishwasher was not delivered.
On November 30th, I went into your store in Chicago. I spoke with a gentleman named Marcus who was extremely helpful. He told me that yes, the order was indeed in an “R” status, but that the dishwasher itself was actually backordered until December 15th. Having already waited two weeks, I asked if I chose a different dishwasher, could I get it delivered sooner. He checked on the new dishwasher that I wanted, that was more expensive than the original that I had chosen and said yes, this was possible as early as December 3rd. Imagine my delight! I confirmed with my in-laws that the third was not a good day as they both had doctors appointments and were not sure of their extended availability. So we agreed on December 4th for delivery and installation. At this time, I canceled my first order, and placed my second order referenced in the subject line above. I left the store feeling very happy and comfortable that despite the nearly 4 hours I had already spent on the phone, I had finally gotten the results that I was looking for and made a note to myself that for appliances, I should always just go right into the store. Sure enough, that evening, I received an email from bestbuy.com that confirmed my delivery date of December 4th (attached).
The afternoon of December 3rd came and I had not heard anything about a delivery window by about 6 PM. I called in to the service number and was told that I was not on the delivery list for the 4th, but there was no explanation as to why. The agent couldn’t quite tell and then called the dispatcher and gave me a confirmation that sure enough, it was scheduled to be delivered on the 4th as I was previously told, but they had to “force schedule” the delivery. This was confusing to me because I had already been given a confirmation on November 30th. Sure enough however, I did receive another email confirmation, this one saying that my order had been rescheduled for December 4th (attached).
The morning of December 4th, I needed to board a plane for a wedding in Arizona. I assured my in-laws that based on our most recent email that I was confident that the dishwasher would be delivered and installed today as promised. I was disappointed again when late in the afternoon, I called to find out that there was no delivery and no attempt to contact my in laws with a delivery window. So again, I called Best Buy. Again, I got a very friendly and seemingly knowledgeable rep on the phone. I was told that Best Buy had been in touch with the dispatcher and that the dishwasher was literally on the way to the house as I spoke on the phone. After ending the call, I called my in-laws and let them know that they should expect someone shortly as the dishwasher was en route.
Imagine my absolute contempt for your company when I got out of a rehearsal dinner to a voicemail from my inlaws saying that nearly four hours later (and after 10 PM CST), Best Buy was a no show. It was at this point that I absolutely lost my patience and made yet ANOTHER call into Best Buy. I was told at that time, there was nothing that could be done and that I would need to call back in the morning. So again, first thing in the morning, I called in and spoke to another rep. AGAIN, I was promised that someone would contact me before noon. AGAIN, noon came and went and nobody called me, so I called Best Buy again. In fact, I made a total of six phone calls on Friday. Each time, I was told something different. Each time, you absolutely underwhelmed me with the inability to address a very simple problem, and most importantly made me feel that my value to your organization is insignificant.
Saturday after the wedding, I made one final call to Best Buy. I got a gentleman on the phone who was as nice and seemingly as knowledgeable as every person that I had spoken with to date. He made no promises. He put me on hold several times to see what he could do to help me. At the end of the call, he said that regardless of all of the run around, the hassle, the miscommunication, lack of follow through on promised return calls, no shows on delivery dates and absolute lies that I had been told, he simply couldn’t do anything to improve my situation. His name was Pedro, and he should be commended for his empathy and his honesty. I accepted the first confirmed appointment that he could schedule, December 15th, 2014. I was told that I will be getting a call with a window for scheduled delivery and installation. At this point, after having become completely disgusted with this process, I’ve not even informed my in-laws that the new date is Monday. At this point, they know I’m still working on things.
After examining my mobile phone bill from November 16 to this current date, on my mobile phone alone, I show that I’ve spent 193 minutes on the phone with Best Buy. This does not include calls from my office, from my in-laws and from the hotel. The total for those calls has got to be close, if not more time. This does not include the amount of time I spent in the store either. I can also tell you from my mobile phone bill alone that between November 16 until this moment, I have called from my mobile phone 19 times. Nineteen times. Think about that for a minute. Think of close to 6 hours of your employee’s time, and more importantly, of my time. This is lost productivity out of my day. I’m a software consultant and my life is made up of billable hours, its where my income is derived from. You’ve effectively stolen that much money out of my pocket in addition to treating me and my family like nothing more than a number with no regard as to what it means to put a customer first and keep a long time loyal member satisfied.
I’ve since been able to find the dishwasher at Sears and at ABT (a local retailer) on sale for $539.99. As with most products, I purchase, I do have other options and I place a high degree of value on my time and money. I place an even higher degree of value of knowing that when I give someone my word, it’s the most important thing I have to reflect my character, reputation and is a key indicator for my intentions.
Knowing there are other options out there, I give you my word that I will be considering all of my future purchasing options accordingly based on the results of this transaction (that hasn’t even been completed yet – so who knows, I may not even be out of the woods).

Follow up - when they did deliver it, they hauled the old dishwasher away. Three days later, someone from the same subcontractor showed up to pick up the old dishwasher - THAT HAD ALREADY BEEN TAKEN AWAY. Talk about not knowing what you're doing!Hello Lane,
There is very little more frustrating than having a delivery not be completed on time, not to mention having additional appointments missed. I certainly understand your frustration over the numerous calls you made in trying to resolve the delivery of your in-laws new dishwasher and I sincerely and wholly regret that this was your experience last winter. Since we strive to provide clear, accurate, and timely communication to you and our other customers, I am at a loss to explain the many, many missteps you describe and I apologize sincerely for the less that stellar showing on our part.
In reviewing your situation, I note that we issued responses to both emails you sent, both from your Twitter conversation with us and the original copy of the missive that you've provided here. Was there something in particular you were looking for in our original responses you didn't find, or that left you feeling unheard? Since this series of events occurred nearly six months ago, I'm wondering if something new has happened that has brought this incident back to the fore?
