4G touch - screen stuck at 'connect to itunes'

Hi guys,
just got a 4G ipod touch, connected it to itunes, upgraded software to todays version, the ipod has rebooted and now wont progress past the screen telling me to connect it to itunes. Any thoughts ?
Cheers, and happy Christmas!

Hey guys...there are several threads on this topic, as a lot of folks have given and gotten new Touches.....you need to have the most current version of iTunes before you get past the iTunes screen, and in order to install the latest version of iTunes, your computer must be up to spec. In my case, I have an approximately 2 year old iMac that still has its original OS, so I'm going to have to breakdown and get the Apple Box Set to upgrade the OS, which will in turn allow me to install the new iTunes, and so on.
As an alternative, you may be able to connect to a Windows PC, as I ended up doing with my iPad. What that does, of course, is then preclude you from "reassociating" with the computer you originally wanted to, unless you are ok with having the content that's on it wiped out(no big deal since you can just reload it)
Good luck!

  • Ipod screen stuck on connect to itunes

i got a new laptop the other day and i downloaded itunes, and then connected my ipod. after connecting my ipod it prompted me to update my ipod software. it crashed in the middle of doing so and ever since then it's been stuck on a screen showing a connect to itunes pic. I was on the phone with apple support for over an hour and I was just told to do the same thing over and over again, hold the home button and then connect it to I tunes etc etc but nothing works. the ipod won't even give me the option to turn it off so I can't really take it out of recovery mode. I even let the ipod die and then I charged it and it was still like that when it turned on. I have tried taking it out of recovery mode, and even tried the dfu mode (I think it's called). OH and when I plug it into my laptop it makes a sound like it knows something is plugged in but iTunes can't find it. The apple support lady said I will probably have to pay 150 to get it fixed but I don't understand how that's it right or fair when it wasnt even my fault it broke. the whole reason it's messed up is because it crashed in the middle of an update. I really dont have the money to get it fixed and I just want it to work again.

    - Try the same things with a new cable
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - try on another computer
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • IPod Touch is stuck in "connect to iTunes" screen. It is not recognized by iTunes or by my Windows (64-bit) computer.

I recently purchased a new laptop after my old one ceased to function. Therefore, I had lost ,my old iTunes, and my iPod is no longer authorized by a functioning computer. I downloaded the latest version of iTunes, plugged my iPod in, and tried to install the new iPod Touch software update. I got the error message that the installation had failed, and iTunes automatically ejected my iPod, leaving it in the "connect to iTunes" screen, in which it has been stuck ever since (about 9 days now). I have uninstalled and re-installed iTunes, have rebooted my computer numerous times, I have tried various holdings of the power button and home button as recommended on several help forums, etc. to no avail. I am using a Windows 7 (64-bit) system on a brand new HP Pavilion dm4 laptop with plenty of space and the newest version of iTunes installed. My iPod Touch (3G) is not being recognized by iTunes or by my laptop. I would like to, if possible, restore my iPod to original factory settings so that it can be authorized on my new laptop and will sync approrpiately. Any help anyone can provide will be immensely appreciated. Thank you.
Also, the iTunes is the version for a 64-bit Windows OS.

    - First I would remove and reinstall all the Apple software using the following and then restoring the ipOd.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    - Next see if manually placing the iPOd in recovery mode will allow a restore. For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    - Next try DFU mode:

    - Next try another computer/cable to help determine if you have a computer or iPod problem.
    - If the other computer works and yours does not see:

  • IPod Touch still stuck on connect to iTunes screen after the restore. iTunes went blank.

Hi, I'm having problems with my iPod Touch. My iPod went off because the battery was empty. And when I tried connecting it to my laptop to recharge, the "connect to iTunes" screen suddenly appeared. According to iTunes I need to RESTORE it for it to work. And that's exactly what I did. However, after the restore and all, the screen is still stuck on the "connect to iTunes" screen.
By the way, it's a 2nd generation iPod Touch. And it's an MC model.
And to make things worse, my iTunes screen is totally empty. The RESTORE option is gone and I really don't know what to do anymore.
Hope you guys can help me out! I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!

I really don't know what happened but my iPod Touch is working now!!! Thank you so much! I'm not really sure if it went to DFU mode or not but all of a sudden I can access iTunes App Store already!!! WOOOOAAAAHHHH! And it asked me to type in a new name for my iPod! So everything's good! Thank you so much! Thank you! You have no idea how happy I am right now!

  • IPod Touch is stuck on "Connect To iTunes" screen

My iPod Touch won't turn on correctly. I'm able to reset it, and then turn it back on. But when I turn it back on it says that it needs to be connected with iTunes. So when I plug in my iPod, it comes up on iTunes saying that my iPod could not be registered because it's locked. Now I've realized that it says it's "locked" because there's a password you have to type in before it goes to the main screen.
There's no way to type in the password, however. Which means that it won't connect to iTunes. Which, in turn, means that it's always stuck on the "Please Connect To iTunes" screen.

  • IPod Touch 4G stuck on "connect to iTunes screen" after iOS 4.2 install

Hi, I just got the new iPod Touch 4G. When I first plugged it into the computer, everything worked fine; iTunes recognized it, I set it up in iTunes, and I was even able to play with it temporarily. When I tried updating to the iOS 4.2, when the update was almost finished, I got an error message. Now it it just stuck on the "connect to iTunes screen"

Yes, I have updated the drivers
    Yes, my devices are "enabled"
Yes, the Apple Mobile Device Service is started and automatic
    Any other ideas?

  • My ipod touch is stuck in connect to itunes screen. I've tried to press Power and Home button at the same time for 10 seconds and all it does is go to a black screen. Press power button again and the usb cable with an arrow towards an iTunes logo.

I have a brand new Ipod touch with front facing camera. Not sure which generation it is. My wife connected the iPod Touch and chose the restore option when connecting to iTunes. It was a mistake and by the time I got there, I saw the screen with USB cable with an arrow facing towards iTunes logo. I cannot get the iPod out of this state.

    Try here:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    Also reset the iPod.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Ipod touch is stuck on connect to iTunes screen and won't restore settings.

So, I'll start from the beginning.
I wanted to update my twitter app, so i installed it but it took ages and so i pressed the home button and the top button at the same time. Then the apple logo appeared for over 30 minutes. The screen then went white and the 'connect to iTunes' screan appeared.
After connecting it to iTunes a box appeared saying iyune has detecehed an ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod beofre it can be used with itunes. OS 5.0.1 Software Update So when i try to restore it the normal box comes up saying everything will be deleted. So i click ok, and another box comes up with iOS 5.0.1 Software Update. As i try to go through with this update when there are 8 minutes left to it my iPod automatically disconnectes itself and this message comes up again about the ipod is in recovery mode (above)
And now i dont know what to do as i cannot restore my ipod from my ipod or from my computer? I have tried re-starting it and i have the latest version of itunes.
    Please help:)

  • IPod touch is stuck on "connect to iTunes" but iTunes won't recognize my iPod touch

So I was trying to update my iPod touch and left the room, thinking I had plenty of time to get stuff done while I waited. When I returned there was a warning saying that my iPod touch couldn't be updated and my iPod screen was stuck on the "connect to iTunes". I tried reconnecting and iTunes will not recognize it. I've tried restarting my computer and my iPod and I've tried reinstalling iTunes and restoring my iPod, but nothing is working. Any suggestions?

  • IPod Touch 3rdGen stuck in connect to itunes mode and driver missing

Ok what happened was I wasn't at my own house and and I wanted to put some new music on my iPod touch 3rd Generation. I had to update to the new itunes first. Then once I was finished I remembered I had to update my iPod touch so I clicked on update. Then at some point the ipod screen had the USB connect to itunes and a window comes up saying Windows needs to install driver software for your apple mobile device ( recovery mode ) and my computer cant find it. I have went into the device manager and when i click on properties for the apple mobile device recovery clicked properties and in the device status box it sais
"This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)
There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver."
I have looked to re download the drivers and I can't find them. The other problem is my primary computer is not working and if i have to completely reset my ipod i will lose practically everything because I have a feeling my primary laptop is getting reset.
So to conclude it's really saying my apple mobile device recovery mode is there, but there is not a driver installed to it.

First I understand your frustration I have had a butt load of problems with my phone ok now plug into iTunes and hold the power button and the home button down at the same time till iTunes says that it has found a phone in restore mode follow the on screen prompts to restore your phone I had this same problem and that worked for me they had an emergency meeting a week ago about thease problems hopefully a fix is coming soon I don't think that they want to lose their #1 phone status I know how you feel I pucker every time I go to sync my phone I hope this helps you.

  • Tried to update to newest version. I got error because i didn't have this recovery program disc that was supposed to come with the purchase but it didn't and now my ipod touch 8gb won't connect with itunes and is stuck on a connection with itunes screen

I tried to update to newest version via pc. I got error because i didn't have this recovery program disc that was supposed to come with the purchase so it says, but it didn't and now my ipod touch 8gb won't connect with itunes anymore and is stuck on a screen displaying an itunes icon with a usb icon.

oke i'm not done with the whole thing, but i'm doing that right now. Most of the advice I've already read didn't work and at a certain point it said something about shutting down programs then restart. but i notice that there are some pretty important system things in that list and i don't want to mess up my pc :s i'm not a pc genius... and because i'm dutch and my pc-language is in dutch I often have trouble translating and well... i don't always understand the technical stuff in all the articles -_-

  • Phone stuck on connect to itunes screen after update attempt

Hi, hope someone can help me. I connected my iPhone to my computer to transfer my photos from the phone to the PC. I have automatic syncing turned off.
When I connected, I was prompted to update the iTunes version, which I did. It's now version 9. Then I attempted to update the iPhone version. I got a message saying I had to transfer my purchases first, which I did. Then I tried the update again. The update seemed to take awhile, then I got a message saying it failed. There was a "More Information" button which just prompted me to send info to Apple, which I did. Unfortunately I didn't save the info.
At that point all my iPhone info no longer showed in iTunes, and the only active option is Restore. It does say "Your iPhone software is up to date," which would seem to indicate that the update did work...I tried disconnecting and reconnecting my phone. When I do this, I get the message "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes."
I would rather not Restore the phone unless I have no other options, since I have 600 pics, contacts, etc on the phone...Of course not backed up since this is the first time I've tried to transfer data.
So I tried a few things:
    - I disconnected and reconnected the phone several times.
    - I restarted the computer several times.
    - I went to the Apple site and tried the troubleshooting steps for "stuck on connect to itunes screen" (which is what my phone is currently doing).
    - I ran the diagnostic checks in iTunes (output below - I ran this while the phone was plugged in yet it says it's not found).
    - I held down the Home and the Sleep/Wake button until I see the Apple icon.
    - I went to My Computer > Manage and tried to update drivers, but the phone doesn't show in the device manager.
    - I tried a different USB port and there are no other devices connected to the machine.
Nothing worked, my phone is stuck on the connect to iTunes screen and I get the error message every time I plug it in. I haven't tried another computer bc I don't have one and I'm not sure how to create/use another user account on this machine.
I wouldn't mind calling support but my phone doesn't work...Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Your only choice at this point is to restore your iphone. Since it appears from your post that you have never synced to this computer, you of course will not have a backup to restore from. That means your only choice is to restore as a new device & re-sync your itunes content. Unfortunately, all of your contacts, calendars, pics in your camera roll, etc., will be lost. Its not a good idea to use the iphone or any phone for that matter as a storage device, as things like this can & do happen. You should be syncing on a regular basis. The first thing done when you do sync is an iphone backup. You should also transfer pics in your camera roll to a supported application on your computer on a regular basis, much like any digital camera. You can always sync pics back to your phone, but if the only copies are on the phone, you run the risk of losing them.
See if you can force the phone into recovery mode:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, itunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.

  • IPhone 4 Stuck on 'Connect to iTunes' screen.

I.. was kinda trying to get rid of the iOS 7 update files which were automatically downloaded to my iPhones following this discussion page: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5379403?start=0&tstart=0
Following the instructions posted there, I managed to get rid of about 3GBs of the iOS 7 files out of my iPhone 5.
    What I followed was nzzzzz's 'Method B'
Method B: Open Settings->General->Software Update, Click "Install Now". There will be a prompt says "Verifying update...", Wait until this prompt disappear, there will be a spinning wheel on the black background. Immediately press and hold both of the power and home buttons at the same time. DO NOT release the power and home buttons for about 10 seconds. Your device will reboot. It's done. The automatically downloaded firmware will have been deleted. Now read part 1 to prevent automatically downloading in the future.
However, when I tried it again on my iPhone 4, it's now stuck on 'Connect to iTunes' screen.
No DFU modes or recovery modes seemed to be working, so I gave up and decided to restore & upgrade to iOS 7.
Then there was another problem, iTunes 'did' recognize the device as in 'recovery mode', downloaded the 7.0.3 update file, and tried to restore the device... but it got me 'error 9134'.
I followed the instructions on forums and discussion pages, and even called the Apple Care Services for technical support... but nothing worked. Nothing.
All those 'hosts' file edit and iTunes removal(and other following services) + download/install to the latest iTunes did not work on me, and now the device is 'just stuck on Connect to iTunes' screen.
    Any suggestions..?
(BTW, English is not my native language, so if there's anything that cannot be understood, tell me)

Hi, I solved this problem on my iPad.
First I followed the steps here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4097?viewlocale=en_US  and recovered the iPad. iPad turns empty like new.
Then I followed the steps here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414?viewlocale=en_US (Option: Restoring your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch) and restored my iPad from a previous backup from iTunes.
When the backup restore was finished, many apps were missing on my iPad. I synchronized it again with iTunes (it took a while although I don't have many apps) and everything was back exactly as before.
I don't know what caused the problem in the first place, being stuck in the iTunes USB screen, but it seems to be solved now. I will anyway try to always remember to close all apps and not leave them running in background. Maybe my iPad got confused?
