4G weak but won't switch to 3G

My phone is constantly getting stuck between a weak 4G signal and 3g. This occured after the last software update and conspiracy theory 101 tells me that this is Verizons way of trying to limit my unlimited data. There should be an option to stay on the 3G network at all times. This option is non existant on the Note 2. The threshold to switch between 3G and 4G should occur without loss of data access. Signal strength of 1 bar on the 4G network gives you practically zero connection capabilities and it will stay at this level without switching Indefinitely on most occassions. Restarting the phone helps sometimes but who wants to do that every 5 minutes? Is anyone else having this problem, same phone or other? I'm pretty sure Verizon is hip to this.

The OP is suggesting that Verizon is doing something to the 4G signal to prevent him from using as much data. That is forbidden by the FCC. Verizon would be in serious trouble if they were indeed doing that.

ITunes see AE but won't switch to the AE speakers

I have configured my new AE to connect to my existing Buffalo WZR2-G300N wireless network.
When I open iTunes, I see the icon in the bottom right corner giving me the choice of my Computer speakers (running win7x64) OR my AE-connected speakers.
I choose the AE-connected speakers and an AirPlay status box pops up that says iTunes is connecting with the AE-connected speakes.
After 30 seconds, the box just disappears, BUT ITUNES IS STILL CONNECTED TO MY COMPUTER SPEAKERS AND NOT THE AE-CONNECTED SPEAKERS.
I have reset the AE, configured it automatically, and then resent it again and configured it manually to ensure iTunes was selected in the music tab.
In iTunes, I have gone to the Preferences:Device tab and ensured that 'Look for remote speakers' is checked.

Strange indeed. Fortunately (or unfortunately), your findings with the iPad, confirms that AirTunes & the AirPort Express are working properly ... but for some reason iTunes on the PC is not able to properly communicate as well.
As reference, AirTunes does its "magic" in several stages: 1) It first attempts to locate an AirPort Express Base Station (AX) or Apple TV, 2) It then establishes an encrypted connection between the iTunes host and the AX/ATV, 3) It then creates a pair of "tunnels:" one for control and the other for streaming purposes. In order to do all of these, a number of software firewall ports must be opened to allow the communications.
The fact that, even with the Win7 firewall disabled, you can "see" the AX, but not stream to it, means that something else is "blocking" the stream.
On Macs, it was found (outside of any firewall issue) that disabling IPv6 resolved the streaming issue in a few cases. This was required on both the Mac itself and the router.

What I recommend you try doing first is to turn iMessage off then back on. If that doesn't work, make sure that your Apple ID and password are correct. If everything seems correct and you still can't send out messages using iMessage instead of text message, I think you should either try calling AppleCare at 1-800-MY-IPHONE (1-800-694-7466) and/or scheduling an appointment at the Genius Bar at an Apple Store (that is, if there's one close to you).

From the iPod's Main Menu choose Videos -> Settings and make sure TV Out is set to Off.
Otherwise, try a hard reset as well. To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

I did a little bit of experimenting. I have an iPad original versions myself. I took it out of the box knowing that I haven used it in months and I expected the battery to be dead and sure enough the battery was as dead as I imagined it would be. For the first 30 minutes I experienced exactly what you are experiencing, but then the iPad suddenly powered up on its own (like it does when plugged into the charger) and I am using it now to type this response to you.
My point is that I am starting tothink that your battery has suddenly died on you for some reason or you have a hardware problem now. I would still try leaving the iPad charge for a while longer - maybe even overnight - and then try again in the morning. Unplug the iPad and try resetting with the home and sleep buttons. Try plugging the iPad in again. Unplug it, try restarting again. Let it charge for a while again.
After trying something like that, if it still will not start up, then I think it's time for a trip to an Apple Store and see what the Apple Techs think.

A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.
No content is affected by this procedure.

Try a reset, hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.

Apparently, this is caused by a loose connection between the "guts" of the phone and the LCD screen. While it only displays white, the touch screen will still operate correctly - so if you know where to swipe, you can still power it off or unlock the screen, or touch to answer a call or etc.
With my phone, pinching the top right corner near the power button while pushing the home/power button to wake up the phone, seems to tighten the connection enough for it to work. I have not had to maintain the pinch after waking up the phone, but I do have to do it each time I unlock the screen. I have gotten by for about 6 months so far, and hoping the iphone 5's come out soon!!

An obvious possibilty is a dead battery. They don't last forever. Take it along to an Apple store and get it checked out.

Clicking external links switches to Firefox but won't open

I use Thunderbird (31.1.2) on a Mac (OS X 10.9.4). I frequently need to proof e-mails that contain a number of links (for a digital marketing campaign). When I click a link in the e-mail, Firefox (32.0.3) opens or becomes active, and if I have NO other tabs, will open my link. But when I switch back to Thunderbird, and click a second link, Firefox will again become the active app but my link will NOT open.
Again, if I have NO open tabs, the first click always works, but no other clicked links will work beyond that.
If I switch to Safari as my default browser, everything works fine. So I'm forced to do that as a solution but I really don't like it.
Any thoughts to help?

I have the same problem. The problem is intermittent. Sometimes external links open immediately, sometimes they don't. Sometimes if I try several times in succession, the link will eventually open. If I manually copy and paste the link into a new tab, it always works.
Firefox is set as my default browser and set to check such at startup. When external links fail to open, Firefox DOES activate and become the frontmost application. It just fails to create a new tab from the external link.
I am using Firefox 32.0.3 on MacOS 10.9.5. I believe this problem started with the update before last (the same one that created the failure of CMD-L to open a new window which has since been fixed.)

My safari won't switch off - what can i do?

i opened a page which should have allowed me to download a mock TOCFL exam (that's the standardized chinese exam in taiwan), but instead i just got a page of gibberish and since then skype won't let me close it, also while closing tabs there's no longer an x to click, instead i have to right click and then close it that way. anyone know what's going on here? also since safari won't switch off, i have no way of trying to deinstall and then reinstall it...any suggestions?

Select  ▹ Force Quit... from the menu bar, then select Safari and press return. Do the same with Skype.
Run Software Update and install all available updates.
Reinstalling system components is rarely the solution to any problem, and certainly not to this one.
