4GB Nano, cannot get 1000 songs

I have a 4gb nano, currently 73 songs are taking up 1.81GB of memory. Most of my songs are imported through iTunes from my personal CD's. What am I doing wrong?

Your songs might not be in a correct format, taking up more space on your iPod than usual.
See this for details:
My song files are too big for my small iPod
If everything seem to be appering okay with how the file format and encoding is, etc., then try restoring your iPod.
See this for details on that process:

You copy them from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
The iphone is not a backup/storage device.

    Hi Dennis!
I have a couple of steps for you to try in order to get those songs transferred to your iPod touch. First, make sure all of your software is updated with the latest versions. If the songs were downloaded from iTunes, you will also want to delete the songs from your library and then download them again from the list of past purchases on your iTunes account. An article about doing that can be found here:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
If you try a sync after those two steps and are still seeing the issue, then I would like you to try syncing the iPod by setting it to manually manage. An article outlining more information on manually managing your iPod sync can be found here:
Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1535
If you are still having issues after that, I have another article that can outline some other reasons why your songs may not transfer to your iPod, and it can be found here:
Some songs in iTunes won't copy to iPod

    Hi Little Orchard,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Are you downloading to a computer or an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch?  I would first suggest signing out of the iTunes Store and restarting your computer or device.  Then log in and look for your purchases again.  If you are still not able to access your content the article below will get you connected with the iTunes Store Support.

  • Cannot get old songs from my ipod onto my new computer. My old one crashed and now I only have these songs on this particular ipod.

Cannot get my ols songs off ipod onto new computer

The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The exception is itunes purchases.  File>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.

  • Cannot get my songs on second computer

Help. I downloaded itunes on my work computer, and thought it would open up and show all my downloads in the library. cannot get it to do so. any ideas? i only have one working computer at home with my library on it.

You iTunes library is only on the computer you put it on.
You need to copy \My Documents\My Music\iTunes\ folder from your home computer to your work computer.

  • 4gb nano. cannot fit more than 3.8gb to it

HELP. I cannot sync more than about 3.5gb to my 4gb ipod nano, there is a warning screen that comes up when I try to add more...
    what can i do?

3,5 or 3,8 gb? Your thread title says 3,8...
On apple.com you'll find the following hint:
1GB = 1 billion bytes; actual formatted capacity less. Song capacity is based on 4 minutes per song and 128-Kbps AAC encoding; photo capacity is based on iPod nano-viewable photos transferred from iTunes.
3,8 gb are fine but if the nano doesn't store more than 3,5 there could actually be something wrong with it.

  • I cannot get some songs to sync on my iPod

I have tried and tried to get all of my songs synced on my iPod and some are grayed out.  These are purchases that I have made, so I don't understand why they won't sync.  They are not grayed out on my computer, just on any device (except my phone), so I cannot play them on the devices.
Does anyone know what causes this?  It is so frustrating!
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • I cannot get my songs to sync to my Ipod after I installed the new update because I had to restore the ipod.

I originally had an error message that said Ipod cannot connect to iTunes, ipod needs to be restored. After I updated the itunes software I was able to restore my ipod. Along with the restoration it updated the software. When it was done restoring and updating my music was off of the ipod, and now I am not able to sync my music to ipod.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

  • Cannot get any songs on all of a sudden!

I suddenly cannot autofill or put any songs on my ipod shuffle (2nd). Tried recommended trouble shooting. I don't know if I have the receipt, but I've only had it for a few months and it worked fine prior to today. Any other suggestions?

What happens when you try? Any error msgs?
Need more details if we are to assist you in this forum.
Alternately, visit an Apple store and speak to a Genius.

  • 4GB Nano full after 120 songs!

What happened to 1000??? Yes, most of the songs are over 4 minutes, but even if they were all 8mins long (which they nowhere near are) then that should surely only take it to 240 songs?
Just received this ipod last night (bought it reconditioned from the apple store here - is that likely to be a contributing factor to the problem???)
    Please help me!!!

First, verify that your iPod's songs fit the 4-minute, AAC encoded, and 128kbps requirements.
    See this for details:
My songs are too big for my small iPod
If you've determined that this is not the case, and that all of your song files are accurately imported, etc., this could be a minor glitch on your iPod with how it reads used space.
A restore would most likely fix that type of issue:

  • My ipod deleted everything it had on it and cannot get any songs stored on the ipod.  Itunes has trouble finding my ipod at times, but when it finds it, it won't allow any files i try to put on my ipod stay on their.

I have the ipod classic 160gb and got it just last christmas.  For quite awhile, it worked fine for me, but then one day i turned it on and there was no music or videos on my ipod.  Battery was charged, the ipod functions well, just no music or videos.  I tried connecting to my laptop and it wasnt showing up on itunes, but it was showing up on my computer.  I updated my itunes to see if that worked and it did.  It seemed to work, so I started putting my songs on it and my videos, and after i would disconnect it from the computer, nothing was on my ipod, again.  I did this a couple of times with no result, with resetting it to factory settings 3 times to no avail.  My brother told me to try to sync it up with my computer, so I tried that and it didn't work as well.  I'm stumped on what to do.  Can it be replaced?

When I hover over cover flow it says I have 12851 songs but when I click nothing happens.
When I hover over artists or albums it says 'no artists/albums'.
I can upload again from my CDs but just wondering if there is anything to do. I live abroad so all my CDs are in storage.

  • Cannot get a song to play a preview at the store

Since I downloaded the latest version of iTunes, when at the store to preview an album or song, the preview button will not play a song.
