4gb not showing up in Arch64

Hi all.
I finally installed Arch64 to take advantage of my 4gb of RAM and my Core 2 Duo. But I am having some problems. I don't think Arch sees all of it. It should not be a hardware problem because my BIOS correctly displays 4 gb. I left my 32-bit Arch on another partition and it actually sees more than Arch64.

Just for kicks, I took out one stick and both Arch64 and 32-bit see the same 3 gb.
Any ideas?

Its an MSI P6N Platnium with an Nvidia 650i chipset.
I looked through the dmesg and I found one line that seems to indicate the problem.
WARNING: BIOS bug: CPU MTRRs don't cover all of memory, losing 1024MB of RAM.
So I guess this means I have to update the BIOS, according to this thread.

I have never had to update a BIOS before, but all the how-to's require either a floppy drive, or a Windows installation, of which I have neither. I could install XP in a pinch and run the BIOS update utility but I really don't want to have to do that.

Ipod nano 4gb not showing in itunes or recognized as device

Out of the blue my nano is not detected as a device with my Windows XP. First I tested my USB port to see if that was the issue. I connected a mouse which was recognized and worked fine. I then got another sync cord thinking maybe my cord went bad and that is not working either. When I used my old cord I received an error message that I exceeded the power limit on my hub port. Which is why I thought my cord was bad. With the second cord I get no such errow however the ipod is charging but doing nothing else. I've gone out to my device list to see if there were any visible errors or anything diabled and its not showing any. But its also not showing an ipod or mass hub device like it normally would. I have followed instructions for transferring my iTunes library from my MacBook Pro to my iPod. The summary window shows lots of unused memory and it partly fills when I hit "sync," but then returns to nearly empty and the music does not show up on my iPod--"no music." Any suggestions would be appreciated. l've read all the instructions I can find. Thanks.

Ipod Nano not showing in Itunes or Windows

hi,
when i connect my ipod to my computer it charges but does not show under itunes or in windows. i've tried all the Rs except one...restore. and the only reason i haven't tried restore is because i can't access my ipod under itunes to run the restore! someone pls help if u can...i'm just about ready to smash the thing!i've spent hours these past two weeks trying to get it to open under itunes with no luck. sometimes it pops up as a "new device that is not working properly", but then it just disappears again and i can't find it under my devices!! somebody, anybody, pls help!

I have a simelar problem. My wife had an ipod mini which was synced to itunes, I brought her a 4GB ipod nano yesterday and I told her just plug it into the computer and then it will have auto instructions.
Actually what happens is nothing, I plug it in and it charges, nothing else. I have uninstalled itunes and downloaded it again but it still has my mums ipod mini songs on there.
basically the ipod does not seem to sync with itunes...any help will be appriciated.

IPod not showing up in Windows explorer / iTunes - not responding to reset

I have updated my new (1 day old!!) iPod nano to the newest firmware (1.1.1.)... and now I can't use the iPod anymore.
It doesn't show up in Windows Explorer. When I try to connect to it via Run, it says: 'E:\ is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable'
When trying to open Windows Explorer, it freezes - not showing any harddrives.
When trying to connect to it via CMD (dos)... It reads: 'The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable'
I have tried all the soft resets, hard resets etcetera. I have uninstalled the USB driver for iPod, uninstalled iTunes, reinstalled them both, used different USB ports. But still no success.
I can't connect to it via iPod Updater, because Windows won't connect to it.
The iPod itself does respond, although I can't find any data on it anymore.
How do I get my iPod to work again: connect to my windows / iTunes player? Please, any help is appreciated!

I have tried all the 'Rs' that Apple recommend. As said, I can't hook up the iPod to my computer. I have tried to reset the iPod manually (holding the select and menu button) - but this doesn't work.
If there is another (manual) way to restore the iPod, I would love to hear about it.
As said: as for restoring the iPod - I can't get any contact with my iPod with my computer at all.

16bit Tiff & PSD previews in Bridge not showing correctly

Large multi layered Tiff, PSD and PSB files which have alpha channels, masks and layers, etc. do not show appropriate previews in Bridge (nor Windows for that matter). Many of these are very large 2-4GB, but even a typical 30-60MB file with certain alpha channels and masks are also problematic with previews. I believe the problem appears mostly when the base images ar 16bit since the 8bit version exhibit properly most of the time.
Is this an issue which has a remedy?

As Jeff said, this should fix the very large files, but I would recommend to post in the Bridge forum, or on http://feedback.photoshop.com if you still have trouble with 30 -60 Mb files.

Audible books not showing up in home sharing

On my new mac mini I brought some books from Audible they appear in iTunes
under "Books" but they do not appear under the home sharing and I am unable to tranfeer
them to my older machine where I keep my media files

Guess I should have looked at FAQ first looks like Apple does not allow us to do this

I understand you are unable to share audio books using home sharing. I know how upsetting it can be. I will help you with this. Unfortunately, you cannot share iTunes Store Audio Books, Audible spoken word content, or QuickTime sound files. Battery Charging icon not showing up in iTunes

I have a brand new iPod Classic 120GB. My wife has an iPod Nano 3rd Gen 4GB. When she connects her Nano to my MacBook Pro (Leopard w/iTunes 8), she has a little battery charging icon next to the sync and eject icons in iTunes. However when i connect my iPod Classic 120GB i don't have it. I would assume my software would be identical OR newer. I have version 2.0 and she has version 1.1.3, both Mac formatted.
This isn't a major deal, but i kinda like that icon and i'm just curious why it's not showing with my newer one. I've try both her and my sync cables, both work fine and don't change a thing icon wise.

Looks like this issue is resolved in the latest Classic software update 2.0.1. I now have my battery charging icon.

If you open the recovery drive (partition) it should only have a single folder (Recovery).
To make sure that your not saving restore points to that drive.
See:
Start, Control Panel, System, System Protection tab. Make sure the D drive partition is set to OFF so that it does not save there.

AE shows WD External disk in Utility, does not show in Finder

Hi,
I just bought an AE (802.11n). The setup was relatively easy. I updated both the software Airport Utility (5.3.2) and Firmware (7.3.2).
When I connect my freshly formatted (HFS+ Case-Sensitive + Journaled) external WD 120Gb HD (which has an external powersupply) to the USB port, it DOES show in the Airport Utility (though without the name), but I cannot connect to it, neither does it show in Finder, etc.
When I take a freshly formatted (HFS+ Case-S, Jour.) Memorystick of 4Gb, and I plug it in it both shows in the Airport Utility and I find it in the shared section of Finder.
I can attach the WD Harddrive to my local MBPro and it works fine (either through USB & Firewire)
What is going on? Has anyone else experienced this (the topics I found dealt with Windows, or wrongly formatted, or Time Machine, etc.)?

Except for the WD disk not showing (my intend is to get it working), an additional question would be: WHY is there no problem when using a memory stick?
Apparently the memory stick has a 'quality/ability' which the external HD does not have causing it to function but which one?

Aperture 3 Not Showing Pictures in Edit But Otherwise OK

Aperture 3 is not showing pictures in the edit screen. Previews are ok. Moreover, when I zoom in in the edit window, pictures are showing correctly. Also they are shown a second after an adjustment is applied (and, actually, if you hold the slider you can see the picture the whole time). It exports fine.
I've tried:
repairing permissions;
repairing database;
rebuilding database;
creating a new library and importing;
manually repairing the library as per https://discussions.apple.com/message/11700059#11700059
re-installing Aperture;
reparing permissions system-wide.
Nothing helps. I don't have the backup, obviously. System is Macbook Air 1.7 GHz i5, 4Gb.
Could anyone, please, help?

OK first off the procedure you referenced re: manually trying to rebuild a library is a last ditch, library is on fire, crashes the world procedure. It is never to be done as a first wave troubleshooting step and it is never to be done without a complete backup of the library. Hopefully that hasn;t added anything to the problem.
Ok that's out of the way. You should start by removing the filter you have on the browser. It's most likely not causing this but there is no need for it and it's only adding a layer of complexity we don;t need now.
What version of Aperture? If it is 3.2.3 (the latest from yesterday) did this start happening the? If it is not the latest you should upgrade.
Does this happen with all images in the library or only some? What type of images RAW or JPG?
If you create a new empty library and import a few images into it does the problem still happen? What if you make a new user and run Aperture as that user on a new library?
When did the problem start? Was it working OK before with this library?
Finally have you rebooted since this problem started?

Ipod is not showing up on itunes.. HELP!!

I recently downloaded the newest version of itunes because a pop up came up and indicated I should. So I did, but now when I plug in my ipod to the USB port, the ipod starts charging, but now the ipod icon sign is not showing up under "source" and I am unable to update my ipod. It's as if itunes does not know the ipod is plugged in. What can I do??

Compressor finishes job but not give message. Message is 0:00:00 remaining.

I know what you mean. When it has happened to me, I have been able to get it to complete by hitting cancel. Then in the file info field of the job pane, adding a numeral to the name. Then re-submitting. The encoding progress bar would quickly go to the end and complete,
