4Gb of RAM in a 925XE Neo Platinum, BIOS report 2.75GB?

Hi,
I've just replaced a dead motherboard in my PC with an MSI 925XE Neo Platinum (MSI-7053)
I needed new RAM for it (old board had DDR-SDRAM) and as it was cheap and the board supported 4GB, I got 4GB.
But the BIOS only reports 2.75GB of available RAM.
CPU is an SL7J8.
Can this be fixed with a BIOS update or something? Or am I stuffed?
Thanks,
J1M.

A part of your physical memory is being reserved by your BIOS, depending on the installed hardware. What's left is for the OS to add to the virtual address space (physical memory + pagefile), usually no more than 3.25 GB for a 32 bit OS. Decrease your pagefile in size to a couple hundred MB, it might change something and you will barely need it anyway...
If it's available in your BIOS, enable Memory Remapping.

If Protection is in the Bios Some Guidance to Disable it would be appreciated. The Mobo Says 925XE Neo (Ms-7053 v1) on it between PCI SLots

Boot Sector Protection Under Advanced Bios Features is Disabled(has always been disabled anyway), I even tried it on Enabled just so I can Say I did, But still don't work
Has Anyone Got any Ideas Please?

  • [925 Series] msi 925xe neo platinum issue

    dear guys
i have just assembled my pc with the above-mentioned board but noted discrepancies with other 925-based boards when benchmarkings are performed. I understood that the same problem also occured with msi 915-based board but all seem to resolve with a bios update. When benchmarking are done with pc mark 2004, my ram marks only hit somewhere around 4700-4800, and cpu benchmarkings also are a bit low as compared to other boards with sisoft sandra 2005. Is MSI working on that or i just have to accept all this issues?
    thanks in advance
btw, my pc specs: P4 2.8 GHz (FSB 800 HT-enabled), MSI 925xe neo platinum, A-Data DDR II 533 256 MB x2, Seagate 80GBs NCQ HDDs x2 as RAID 0, and Maxtor 80 GB SATA as RAID 0 and Optical drives.

I don't think it's the motherboard fault and its most likely due to the OS and hard drives. I had the same problem when I installed windows 98 and upgraded to windows 2000. I created a slipstreamed windows 2000 CD and installed windows 2000 from scratch and my problems stopped. Originally I was getting scores in 3D Mark 2005 of 4300-4800 and that was the graphics score. After installing windows using the slipstreamed CD I was getting scores of 5600. I think it was a SATA drive issue, which slowed down system and stopped it working as it should. Though you probably have windows xp installed from scratch I thought I would say this anyway as it kind of is relevant even though it's your CPU and RAM you're having trouble with.
You could try changing SATA ports or updating the drivers for the controllers if it's the SATA dirve to blame though I am sure other people will prove me wrong.
Is the CPU showing up at the speed it's supposed to?

  • K8N Neo Platinum Bios 1.3 XP 3700 heat question

i did do a quick search on here before posting this question but had a load of varying answers ... so
i have a K8N Neo Platinum Bios 1.3 an xp 3700 and core centre says the chip is at about 45 - 50 degrees when the pc is idle
this is with the stock fan that came with the chip and ive also tried a samurai heatsink and fan .... ive reseated and reapplied artic silver and also tried thermal pads as well and the temp on the processor always comes back as 45 ish degrees
is this normal as the pc seems to run ok and even after round of doom 3 the temps only seem to hit about 55
are these chips hotter now or is it a bios / thermal temp issue
    cheers guys
    ohh and nice forums BTW

yup, issue with temp reading -> 1.43 beta bios for K8N NEO pL.  for me 36-39 idle 42-45 after a doom3 session

  • Kingmax Hardcore DDR500 with MSI MS K8N Neo Platinum (Bios Version 1.40)

    I am interested in Kingmax Hardcore DDR500 (PC4000) 512MB DDR-SDRAM. Currently, I’m using MSI MS K8N Neo Platinum (Bios Version 1.40) with AMD 64bit 2800+ & MSI MS 8907 FX5200-TD128 AGP Card.
Please advice whether the Kingmax Hardcore DDR500 (PC4000) 512MB DDR-SDRAM compatible with my systems.

The "safe mode" that the BIOS message refers to is not related to Windows' Safe Mode. The BIOS safe mode lets you un-do any overclocking or memory settings that might make your computer so unstable that you can't even get into the BIOS settings to change them. In that case, you hold insert while powering on to reset the BIOS to default safe values.
As for your problem getting into Windows' Safe Mode. If you upgraded from another motherboard that uses a different chipset, or if you somehow got the wrong chipset drivers installed, then the old AGP GART or chipset drivers will cause the system to halt/reboot very early in the Windows boot process even in safe mode. I've run into this problem before and its tricky. Best thing to do is switch back to the old motherboard, then go into safe mode and remove all chipset-related drivers, and then switch back to the new motherboard. If you can't do that, try running system repair from the windows setup CD. And failing that, you'd probably have to fully re-install the OS.

  • K8N NEO Platinum Bios Update - Memory Downgrade

I have a K8N NEO Platinum MOBO, 2 GIG Ram with 1G in Each Dimm 1 and Dimm 2, Dimm 3 is empty.  I have updated my bios from 1.7 to 2.1... With 1.7 my RAM runs at DDR400 no problem just like manual says.  With 1.8, 1.9 or 2.1 I can only get DDR333???? What gives, anyone have the same problem.

  • K8N Neo Platinum Bios 1.3 Question

This is bit of a dumb question..... I am not a noob either, been building computers for 6 years.
I have a K8N Neo Platinum with AMD64 3000, 1 GB Corsair Value Ram, 160 GB Western Digital ATA Drive, ATI 9800 Pro 128MB Catalyst 4.7,   LG DVD Drive and NEC 2510A DVD burner, Windows XP Pro with SP 1a.
Tried to get into Safe Mode the other day ( to uninstall the video driver with Driver Cleaner) ...Hit F8 while booting , got the standard menu for safe mode, picked the standard "Safe Mode " option....then the computer restarts.
So I can't get into safe mode
I went back to the MSI website to get bios version again....then I saw this for Bios version 1.3 which I have on my board....

System reboot to safe mode when "Insert" key pressed
Does this mean, instead of hitting F8...you hit the insert key , or does this mean hit F8, chose the menu selection you want , then hit insert while it is going through the boot process.
    Thought that I would ask?

The "safe mode" that the BIOS message refers to is not related to Windows' Safe Mode. • K8N NEO Platinum BIOS 1.8

I updated to this, only to find my machine would not boot to Windows. This, presumably because it was using 1T when, with two double-sided DIMMS, I require 2T. I couldn’t find anywhere to change that setting.
I noted on the boot screen that it was a workstation BIOS, and the flash utility is 859G rather than the usual 833C.
    Got 1.7 on there now.
Have other people had trouble with this?

  • K8N Neo Platinum BIOS 1.4 temperatures

When I upgraded my K8N Neo Platinum from BIOS version 1.3 to 1.4 temperatures jumped up by 7 to 10 degrees and average vcore dropped by about .03 volts (both read from Core Center).
Both readings reverted back when I switched back to BIOS 1.3. I'm just concerned as to which is more accurate. I was planning on doing some mild overclocking on this system, but if the 1.4 readings are right (51C idle) then I don't have much room.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any idea on which temps are more accurate?
    My system:
    K8N Neo Platinum (socket 754)
    A 64 3400 (Newcastle)
    Enermax 550 watt power supply
    Thermaltake Venus 12 CPU cooler

If you check around you will see, especially as applies to Neo2s the temp numbers are all screwed up. With all prior bioses my computer showed temps ranging from +175 to -128 irrespective of load.
This is especially irksome as I am vapor cooling and know from an external temp probe I installed right on top of the heat spreader on the CPU that I am running well below zero even under full load.
I cannot comment on the 1.41 bios yet because my board decided to blow up a capacitor last week and I haven't received my replacement yet.

  • Official, non-beta K8N Neo Platinum BIOS when?

    Hi,
I see a lot of beta 1.5x BIOS releases for K8N Neo Platinum. Anybody know when the official release will come from MSI???

  • 925XE Neo Platinum-54G - 2nd RMA replacement, board locks up

I would really appreciate any assistance anyone can provide about the problems I'm having with this mobo, I'm ready to toss it. This one is the 3rd RMA replacement; the first one failed within 7 months of purchase and the replacement that MSI sent for that one failed within 3 months after receiving it. The current board locks up my system after boot; the time to lock up is anywhere from 15 seconds to 3 minutes. I have hooked up only bare minimum components to the board to reduce the possibility that it's a compnent issue, but everything else in my system has been working fine. System specs are:
Intel 3.2 ghz single core proc
    Geil DDR2 SDRAM 533 (PC2 4300) 3 x 1gig sticks
Sapphire RADEON 7000 64meg PCI video card
Creative Soundlbaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card
Maxtor DiamondMax 200gig SATA drive (3x)
Let me know what other information you might need to help. Thank you to anyone that can help.

Memtest ran for 8 1/2 hours, here is what is hightlighted in red below the test data:
Tst    Pass    Failing Address                 Good                  Bad                  Err-Bits            Count    Chan
    6       7       000389a2e74 - 905.1mb      0000000010     0000000050      0000000040              1
I have 3, 1gig sticks of Geil RAM, how do I determine which one has the fault? Could this be the cause of board lock-up?
I can't get to the power supply to see the lable information.

  • MSI K8N Neo Platinum ,bios issue or HW

Hi i am using a system like in the signature described (usind adata instead of twinmos) im cooling with a prometeia system , and the board ist watercooled.
My CPU is a Newcastle (@2800mhz ) my graphic card is the normal 9700pro (it makes no diff in oc if the card is clocked or not)
Now i got some serious problems , i can´t run high fsb sync ? Why ? i wasn´t able to do this with the twinmos ram , but i read twinmos has some serious problems with the nforce3, so i purchased 2*512 mb adata.
I tried different dimm combinations (1/2 ; 1/3) that didn´t made any difference
I tried different bios (1.2 1.25 1.31 1.1) but this didnt made any difference either (using 131 now)
my pci/agp is fix (always 66,67/33,34 in clockgen so its just perfect)
i don´t use any SATA devices (all disabled in bios)
What is my Problem ? is it only a bios problem , or is there hardware in my sys which makes probs? Could it be an IRQ Problem (got 2 pci cards in slot 3 and4 its an IDE raid controller and a soundcard)
i hope there is any help for me :(

Well this is the second time someone mentions problem with Adata DIMMs:

Maybe it's about time to post it here:

For all I can think of right now, either run the board with a single module or both with 5:6 divider
