4Gen Airport Extreme Firmware 7.6 problems

I installed the 7.6 firmware and started to have some strange problems, they seem DNS related, Most sites work fine but there are a handful of sites and online games that no longer work, I try to goto the game websites such as secondlife.com and the page cant be displayed, i try to ping the site and get a DNS error no such site. I then reverted the extreme back to 7.5.2 and everything is working fine again, I upgrade back to 7.6 and the problem is back, there seems to be some type of DNS routing problem with the 7.6 firmware, has anyone else had similar problems?
P.S. I also noticed that with the 7.6 firmware installed my iphone is no longer able to upload photos to a photo website I use and after going back down to the 7.5.2 firmware the iphone works fine with the photo site.

As you know, this type of setup for Time Machine backups is not supported by Apple.
So, in effect you are asking us for help on a configuration that is not supported. We'll try.
Did you power cycle the entire network?
This would involve powering each device down, waiting a few minutes, starting the modem first, then AirPort Extreme, then hard drives and other devices one at a time about a minute apart.
If you try this a few times with no help, it is very possible that the 7.6 update has further limited the ability to set up Time Machine backups to a drive at the USB port of the AirPort Extreme. We've seen other similar posts from users who are having the same types issues that you are.
If that is the case, the only thing that might help is rolling the firmware back to 7.5.2.

  • Airport extreme firmware update screwed up my IP sharing and internet

I am having all the same problems -
    1) I upgraded to the 7.1 firmware
    2) I got the 'double NAT' error, but no problems connecting to the internet
    3) When I turned the bridge mode to off, I lost my internet, so I
    4) Tried to turn the bridge mode back to Share an IP address, but got an error about IP addresses.
    5) I went into Setup - the network port mapping tab - and unchecked and then re-checked the Airport button, so now I have internet access, but only at one computer, and if my computer is functional, my VOIP modem is not (or vice versa)!
    6) when I tried going back into "Share an IP address", I got the same error about the beginning and end DHCP conflicting with my WAN.
(If it helps to know, I have two AEBS - one is set up as the Main WDS station, and the other Participates in that WDS)
Now I'm afraid to touch anything!!

I would like to rollback to the 7.3.2 firmware version but there is no way to find it on internet (or on apple download) even if i change rollback airport utility to version 5.4.1: the binary firmware 7.3.2 disapeared from my mac and i can only choose 7.4.1 binary file ...
Do anyone have the same problem ?I you found how to fix it please answer my post (thanks)
Ok, here's how you actually do the downgrade - here's what Apple says, not exactly right - I would add that you HAVE to go to the MENU, choose BASE STATION, then hold down the Option key while pressing UPLOAD FIRMWARE, this will get you to a window that has the dropdown with older versions....the other versions were not available to me any other way.
{quote}If I have a computer or device that does not work well with an AWD with the latest update, how can I install previous (earlier) versions of firmware?
    1. Open AirPort Utility.
    2. From the AirPort Utility menu, hold the Option key (Control key in Windows XP and Vista) and choose Check for Updates....
    3. Select the specific firmware version you require.
    4. Click Download.
    5. Select your base station and choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click on the AWD icon.
    6. Choose Base Station > Upload Firmware.
    7. Select a firmware version and click OK.{/quote}

  • Nortel VPN still broken with Airport Extreme firmware 7.1

I've just recently started using the NAT'ed mode of my 802.11n Airport Extreme and the the Nortel VPN connectivity is still broken with firmware 7.1.
I've setup a side by side config using the new Airport Extreme and my older Airport Express to make sure the issue is indeed with the Airport Extreme.
Here are the details of my setup:
    ISP: NTT/GOL B-FLET (PPoE)
Wireless Config #1 - Airport Extreme firmware 7.1
Wireless Config #2 - Airport Express firmware 6.3
Client #1 - Nortel Contivity VPN V06_01.014 Windows XP 802.11g
Client #2 - Nortel Contivity VPN V04_86.033 Windows XP in Parallels 802.11n
The odd thing is that it isn't totally broken. The VPN connection is made and low bandwidth transfers work fine (ie. ssh, http requests), but higher bandwidth transfer fail to complete (ie RDP/RDC, ftp's, Outlook xfers).
When my clients are on the Airport Extreme Network, they have the issue but don't have the issue on the Airport Express network.
Is anyone else still having problems with Nortel VPN ? Does Apple have any suggestions ?
    Thanks,
    Eliot

I'm using Apani's Nortel VPN client (the most recent version) on my Mac mini, and the Windows version on my Windows XP notebook computer. Both were broken with the original AEBS firmware (7.0), but now both work well with the updated 7.1 firmware.
Keep experimenting - I'm sure you'll get it working.

  • Multiple issues arose after upgrading Airport Extreme firmware to 7.41

I recently upgraded my Airport Extreme firmware to 7.4.1 and instantly all my windows machine had issues connecting to the wifi, my Apple TV could no longer connect including a Nokia E71. The only devices connecting were the MacBook and iPhones. For the Windows machines i resolved this by forcing to authenticate using WPA2 AES encription. But the Apple TV and E71 couldn't connect. Also some VPN connection issues arose with my windows machines (iPsec). After 2 days of reluctancy to downgrade the firmware, i was left with no option other than to downgrade to 7.3.2.
I am 100% sure there is a problem with the new firmware, downgrading fixed all the issues without any configuration adjustment.
Apple you dropped the ball on this one, when are we getting a patch to 7.4.1?

Open Airport Utility. Select the airport from the list on the left (if you have more than one) and then choose Manual Setup.
On the Summary tab that opens, click on Version (that's the word Version, not the version number next to it). A drop-down arrow appears - click it and you should get a list of versions to choose from. 7.3.2 seems OK. Pick it and the device will downgrade and restart.

  • Airport Extreme Firmware Update 7.3.2 no longer connects to internet

Automatic Updates recommended Airport Extreme Firmware Update 7.3.2, which I accepted (BAD). The Airport Extreme does have a green light, but CANNOT connect to the internet. Cannot "Check for Updates" with Airport Utility (option key down) because I cannot access the internet. Airport Utility shows 7.3.2, but nothing lower. Is there a location on the mac where the older driver resides?
Numerous restarts, resets, etc with both the Cable Modem and Airport Extreme and my MacBook do not help.
How do I download 7.3.1? Can I? How can I revert?
I can access the internet from another network, hence this email.
    Any suggestions would help!

When I updated to the Airport Extreme to 7.3.2 firmware it was dropping wireless connections randomly, Today I reverted back to 7.3.1 and looks like it is staying up for now but I am still shell shocked. To revert back in Airport Utility:
    1) Hold down the option key(Mac), the Control key for Windows at the same time clicking on Check for updates
This will open a popup window with the previous versions, select the Airport Extreme Firmware 7.3.1 update and click download.
    2) After the download is done, from Base station file menu drop down select Upload Firmware, you will get a choice to download different firmware updates, select 7.3.1.
    That should install the 7.3.1.
    There you go enjoy.

  • Airport extreme will not fix problems or allow manual settings

So I have a recently purchased airport extreme and the dreaded "flashing amber light" problem, but I can't find a solution that works. When I open my airport utility it says it has found an airport extreme that is experiencing problems, and then gives all the specs of my airport extreme (e.g. name, ip address, etc.) and says it is reporting problems.
It then instructs me to press the continue button to resolve the problems. However, when I do that (or attempt to open the manual settings), it thinks and thinks and thinks while reading the configuration and then finally tells me that an error occurred while reading my configuration and I should make sure the airport is properly plugged in and in range of my computer, though it's plugged in properly and sitting immediately next to the computer.
I would also note that the internet works fine on my desktop (being run through the airport to my mac), but just will not work on the danged airport.
Any idea of what I can do now?

It opens up a new window, but still gives me the exact same error message about not being plugged in or in range, though it is both of those

  • Airport Extreme Firmware update?

Hi all, as part of a seperate issue am experiencing with network transmission speeds I'm checking to see if I can update my Airport Extreme firmware.
Currently, the Software Updates section doesn't find any updates and the current firmware I'm using is 4.80.46.0 yet there appears to be a new version at http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportextremefwupdate.html
Is that Firmware applicable? Is there a resident page that shows all of the Airport Extreme wireless cards firmware versions and updates?

    Bravo,
    OK... I see....
Then the Software Update would the in fact show you the latest updates for the Airport Extreme Card.... I have never seen a firmware update for the card but then it could be contained within the update itself.
The latest Airport software is 4.2...
My firmware version on the G5 iMac is 405.1 (3.90.34.0.p18)
Nothing we can do about that, that know of.

  • Problems with Airport Extreme Firmware 7.6.1. and Time Machine Backups to USB Disks

I found that when I upgraded to Firmware 7.6.1 my Airport Extreme was no longer able to maintain afp server connections to USB disks mounted to the APE. If I power cycled the APE it would work for a while and then fail again. This even applied for connectins on gigabit ethernet, not just wifi. Consequently my Time Machine backups became unusable. Rolling back to 7.6 fixed it, but I permanently fixed this by changing the IPv6 mode from "Automatic" to "Host". No problems since then.

I hate to have to tell you this, but backing-up that way is unreliable and not supported by Apple.   See:  Using Time Machine with an Airport Extreme Air Disk.

  • Airport Extreme and Time Capsule problems

I have had an Airport Extreme 802.11g, version 5.7 for several years and have some problems that is get stuck now and then, so I have to restart it. I have tried to upgrade software, but cannot find anything appropriate. Assume 7.5 is a software version, but where and how to upgrade?
I got another problem when I bought a Time Capsule. It interferes with my Siemens Gigaset wireless phone. I have tried to change channel etc, but it does not seem to help. Any tips?
The two problems are not related, as I had the first problem before I got the Time Capsule.
    Tor

v5.7 is the latest firmware for your AEB 802.11g.
v7.3.2 is the latest firmware for the TC.
You should probably do these simple maintenance tasks:
    Simple Maintenance Tasks:
    1. Repair Permissions - /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app. Start Disk Utility, select your HD and click on Repair Permissions. When finished, quit Disk Utility and then restart your computer.
    2. Reset PRAM - hold down Option-Command-P-R keys when starting until you hear the startup chime a 2nd time.
    3. Safe Mode Startup - hold down the Shift-key at startup until you see the login screen. When logged-in, then go to System Preferences/Network/AirPort
    - click on the 'Network Name:' roll-button, select 'Join Other Network...', enter 'Network Name and select the security type you are using, and finally, enter your Password and click 'Join'.
    - click on 'Advanced', TCP/IP and confirm that 'Configure IPv4:' is set to 'Using DHCP', click 'OK'.
    - click the 'Apply' button and exit System Preferences.
Make sure you separate the AirPort Base Station and the wireless phone by as large a distance as you can.
You could enact Interference Robustness, but it will reduce the range of your AirPort base station:
    1. Open AirPort Utility, select the AirPort Base Station (main) and click on 'Manual Setup'.
    2. Click on 'Wireless' tab and click 'Wireless Options'.
    3. Tick 'Use interference robustness, click 'Done', and click 'Update'.
    4. Wait for ABS to restart. Restart your computer and test.

  • Trouble updating my AirPort Extreme firmware.

I purchased my AirPort Extreme in 2009. It has been functioning fine. Just yesterday, none of the remote devices in our house could access the WiFi. I called our Internet provider (Charter) and they said it was probably an issue with needing to update my firmware. I am having trouble figuring out what version of AirPort Extreme I have, and what the most recent update on it is. As far as I can see, I originally purchased v. 6.3.4, and it has since been updated to v. 7.6.4. I have OS X Yosemite on my Mac. Am I up to date, or do I need to purchase another version of AirPort Extreme? If so, which one, or can I simply update what I have?

I called our Internet provider (Charter) and they said it was probably an issue with needing to update my firmware.
I'm sure that  they were trying to help.....but since you already have the most up to date firmware (7.6.4) on your AirPort Extreme and you are running the most up to date operating system on your Mac (10.10.1)........their idea of you probably needing to update firmware (when you are already updated) would not seem to offer much value. Unfortunately, it appears that they were just guessing without gathering facts.
Just yesterday, none of the remote devices in our house could access the WiFi.
Not at all sure what you mean here. Can you please clarify?
Are you saying that none of the wireless devices in your home can even "see" the wireless network at all?
Or, are you saying that they can "see" the wireless network, but cannot connect?
Or, are you saying that they can "see" the wireless network, can connect, but cannot get an Internet connection?
I am having trouble figuring out what version of AirPort Extreme I have
Your tagline above indicates that you have a 2nd Generation version of the AirPort Extreme. But, let's check.
Please look on the bottom of the AirPort Extreme for the model number. It might be embedded in the foam pad. The model number starts with an "A" followed by four numbers. Post back with that number, please.
Are there any other troubleshooting steps that you have performed?  Please provide details.

  • Airport extreme firmware update 19 Jan 2011

Today I was foolish enough to install the new firmware settings. the immediate effect was to remove me from the internet. I have tried factory reset and resetting the network but to no avail. Network diagnostics shows the status of settings OK except Internet and Server. The WAN ethernet connection on my airport extreme died a while ago but I have been able to use it by connecting to one of the other ethernet sockets and the ethernet connection still appears OK now but not in the WAN socket. I am now on the internet by going directly from my modem to my computer so presumably my internet connection is OK. Any help would be appreciated.

The WAN ethernet connection on my airport extreme died a while ago but I have been able to use it by connecting to one of the other ethernet sockets and the ethernet connection still appears OK now but not in the WAN socket.
With the WAN Ethernet port non functional, you could only use the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) configured as a bridge for any means of getting Internet/network access.
Is the AEBS the only router in your network configuration ... since you posted in the AirPort Express forum? If so, how do you have it currently configured?

  • Airport Extreme Gigabit Base Station problem

Today when I tried to get on the internet, my MacBook Pro would not recognize my AEBS. It cannot find it in the AirPort Utility or when I type the name of my network and password into Airport from the Menu Bar. My PowerBook is running fine on the same network. It recognizes and joins the network when it wakes from sleep and it sees the AEBS in Airport Utility.
Last week my MacBook Pro experienced a kernel panic while using Safari over a different wireless network. My best guess is that I may have a bad Airport Express card... is there any way to run a test on it to find out?
Also, my MBP never remembers my networks that I visit requently.... all of them are hidden networks and I have to retype the network and password every time I visit that same network. This is not the case with my PowerBook... and I have no clue why.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Computer Stats:
    PowerBook G4, 1.67 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 10.4.10
MacBook Pro, 2.4 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 10.4.9
Just ask if you need any more info about my computers or about my AEBS.

    Hi K,
I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing this problem. I was beginning to think that I made a mistake in purchasing the Airport Extreme BS (Gig). Since our jobs are printing perfectly when the printer is directly attached to our macs running Leopard, I have to assume this is a wireless issue. Currently, my Extreme Station is configured to run at 5 GHz and backward compatible with the other devices. Unfortunately, because my Powerbook is the only one that can take advantage of the 5GHz range, the base station has to allow for 2.4 GHz as well, and I'm beginning to think this is the culprit but I guess we have no choice. Because the 2.4 range is quite crowded (my cordless phone runs at that frequency), I imagine this might be what's causing the computer and base station to be confused. I hope Apple can fix this and make it more rubust. Incidentally, there is a toggle option in the Airport Utility where it does allow for more "robustness" but warns that this could slow down the overall performance of the network. I tried, but I'm still having the same sort of printer issue as you described. What do you think?

  • Airport Extreme and USB Printer Problem

I have an Epson printer connected to the USB port of my Airport Extreme.  This has worked just fine for years.  But from today neither my iMac nor my MacBook Air can "see" the printer any more.  I have rebooted everything a couple of times, but still no joy.
I have connected the printer directly to a USB port on my iMac, and all is well, so I guess the problem is not with the printer.
The only thing significant done to my system in recent times is the latest security update, which I installed yesterday.
Can anybody give me a clue as to why this problem has suddenly raised its head after all these years?

    Hi bricknell,
It sounds like you are experiencing some printing issues after performing an update to your computer’s software. Here is an article for you with some troubleshooting steps that will help you address this issue:

  • Old Airport Extreme Firmware

I'm just getting back to trying to figure out my Airport Extreme and am now using Snowlep, I'm trying to update my firmware thinking that will fix the issue I'm having and its telling me that version 1.1 of the CD software is no longer supported. Any ideas how I can get a more recent version of Airport Extreme that works with Snow lep.

SL contains the most up to date version of Airport Utility. To start it Command Shift and type in Airport Utility. Once it finds your AE it will tell you the version of firmware the AE is currently using. You can find the most up to date firmware version by clicking manual set up and then click the firmware version which will tell you what you have installed and what the most current version is. To get the most current version simply click on it and the AE will begin downloading and installing.
    Hope this helps,

  • Airport Extreme and Westell Modem problem

Two days ago I bought a new Airport Extreme to replace my Belkin Wireless G router which operates without problems. I have spent hours unsuccessfully trying to get my AEB to work. My Westell modem is in bridge mode, and each time I configure my AEB to connect via PPoE my results are a flashing amber light on the AEB and a scrolling message next to my airport connection icon which states "Attempting to Negotiate PPoE." After several seconds this message disappears, the airport icon shows full signal strength but I'm unable to connect to the internet. The light is still flashing amber and the Airport Utility indicates that there is a problem with the IP address from the modem.
Reconfiguring the AEB to connect via DHCP results in a green light and the Airport Utility indicates that all is well and I'm connected to the internet. However, each time I try to connect to the internet I'm taken to the configuration page of my Westell Fast Access modem.

I had a similar problem. I had to switch my computer's Airport seting to DHCP from PPPoE. Then I was able to access Airport Utility(be sure to upgrade to 5.1). My Airport Basestation Internet setting was on "Always On". I switched it to "Automatic". Then switch my computer network/Airport setting back to PPPoE. Hope this helps.
