4gen iTouch will only charge on computer

I have a 4th generation iTouch with 5.1 software, and it will only charged when hooked up to my Window 7 laptop.  It will not charge with any usb charger, and I have tried several, including, the chargers from my  iPod 2, and my iPhone 4s, and neither of those chargers will charge the iTouch.  It will also not charge with any car charger.  When I first got the iTouch it would charge with the usb/car charger.  Any suggestion how I can correct this?  I would like other options than charging with my laptop.
Thanks

My problem is very similar.  My 4s will charge on my computer but not on my wall charger or car charger.  I have tried different charges and cables and the phone does not light up and say it is charging unless I plug it into my computer.
My iPad will still charge from my wall units.  I feel sorry for people having this problem, because others think it is the cord or charger.   Any help would be appreciated.  Hope someone figures it out.

My sons iPod touch will only charge with computer. This has happened since update. Wall charger charges other iPods/iPhone. Restored to original defaults. And still does not work.

I believe it started with the update prior to 5.1.1.  I just udated it to the 5.1.1, thinking it would resolve the problem.

  • My ITouch will only charge on a computer that has itunes downloaded on it. It will not charge on an outlat? Any ideas why?

Was wondering if anyone had any idea why I cannot charge my ITouch except on a computer that has ITunes loaded on it? It will not charge in an outlet?

Maybe the wall charger or cable is defective?
    Does it charge other devices?

  • IPHONE 4S WILL ONLY CHARGE ON COMPUTER

Suddenly last week my iphone 4S would not charge on my car charger or any wall charger.  Well..actually if you plugged it in, the charging icon would not come on but it would charge to about 20% if you left it plugged in all night.  This was on several different chargers.  My other iphones charged on the same chargers just fine.  I discovered by accident that it charges normally when plugged into the computer. I have tried with different charger cords and it is the same with all of them.  My other phones all work fine so it is not the chargers.  I have seen other posts that mention something about an update.  Any help would be appreciated.

This is really upsetting me as I have spent a fortune on Apple products over the years and the accessories that are "made for ipod and iphone" over the years and now those are useless with the device I use the most.  If this doesnt get sorted, I'll be going to another brand.
That is just illogical and unintelligent.  Stop whining.  And while you're at it... leave.  No one here cares about which product you go with.

Just hope either Apple gives an update to sort this or my local Apple store can sort this!
An update for what?  Your logic processor?  Not gonna happen.  Only YOU can update that.
Clean the dock connector on the device, it is likely dirty or full of lint.

  • IPod classic will only charge from my computer

I have an iPod Classic 80gb and it won't charge from my wall charger or my car charger it will only charge from my iMac and MacBook Pro what can I do to fix this.

If it charges from your computer, then there is nothing wrong with your iPod charging. The problem then goes to your charger.
just in case, try a 12w charger or use a different charger.

  • Ipod touch will only charge in docking station after 3.0 upgrade

Prior to my recent (this week) upgrade to 3.0, my ipod touch could charge off of my desktop computer, my laptop, and my Apple USB wall charger adapter. That adapter is not the current version, but the prior model. Since I've done the upgrade, the ipod touch no longer recognizes it's attached to the adapter (and the wall outlet) or to the USB cable and computer. I am using the Apple supplied USB cable, so it is not a matter of using non apple equipment or Firewire. This week, it will only charge using a lamp that has a docking station. I've had the ipod touch about 4 months, and didn't have this issue until the 3.0 upgrade. Does anyone else have this problem and any ideas on how to fix it?

If the iPhone has no problem with the same cable then

  • My charger will keep my computer charge constant, but won't increase it. What's wrong? My roommate's charger will actually charge my computer.

My macbook pro charger will only keep my charge constant, and the info. says that my battery is not charging. However, the charge will not decrease as long as it's plugged in and my roommate's charger will actually charge the computer. What's wrong?

It seems that your charger may not be putting out enough 'juice'.  Does it perform in the same way on your roommates MBP?  You may need a new one.
    Ciao.

  • MacBook 13" will only charge battery when on and open. why?

    Hello,
My white 13" Macbook, model number A1181, will only charge the battery when the computer is on and open. If i close the screen down, the light on the AC adapter will go off about 2 seconds later, and will stop charging the battery or giving any power to the computer. When i try to start up the computer without the battery in, it will not start up.
When I attach the AC adapter to the computer and it is not open, or not on, there is just a faint green light on the AC adapters LED light. About 1/4 the normal brightness.
Also, a few days ago, the computer would randomly shut down when it was plugged into the AC adapter to charge my battery. I was surfing the web and it shut down three separate times. All while the AC adapter was in. After i took the AC adapter out, it stopped randomly shutting down.
I went to a friends house who has the same mac laptop, and have swapped out his battery and his AC adapter with mine in every combination and everything operates in the same way: not able to turn my computer on with his adapter plugged in and the battery out and a 1/4 as bright green light when the AC adapter is plugged in and the computer is off or the screen is shut. My AC adapter functions perfectly with his computer, as does my battery, perfectly normal.
I thought it might have been the DC in board, so i replaced that myself with a part i ordered online, and it was not the DC-in board, same problems persist.
It seems it must be something on the logic board that has shorted out or broken that routes the power when the computer is without battery, shut, or shut down. and there must be a separate line going to the battery charger, which is why that aspect of the computer is still able to function. this means however that my only option to keep using the computer is to keep the battery relatively full and NEVER let it drain anywhere near low, as i would not be able to boot it back up again if it fully drained.
Is this problem indicative that the whole system is on the way out? or might i get a few more months out of this thing by just charging the battery while it is open, and while im working? Any idea what this problem might be? It is past even the 3 year extended apple care plan we had, so that is not an option.

You seem to have narrowed it down to a logic board issue. You can try resetting the SMC:

  • Blackberry Curve 9320 - Dust in screen and will only charge on a certain angle

I have had the phone for 4 months now and already in the first week of using it I noticed that dust had started to come into the underside of the screen. Its on the left hand side near to the charger socket and also that little hole above it. I have no idea how dust can get into the screen but my friends have exactly the same phone and don't have a problem with it? What can I do to solve the dust problem? Also when I plug in the charger into the phone it will only charge on a certain angle! What is the problem? I thought Blackberry's were meant to be reliable and trustworthy but I don't think they are at all! I am truly disappointed in this product! A phone should be reliable without any problems at all! And I have only had it 4 months! Some please help me. Thanks, Steven

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Devices designed, build, and operated by humans cannot expect to be 100% perfect. From what you describe, I'd deduce that you are simply the unlucky recipient of one of those defects -- but one defect (among millions) hardly rates something to be so negatively thought of, does it?
Now, if you've already sought formal help from your provider/reseller, then you may have cause for distrust. But, if this is your first attempt to resolve this unlucky situation, then I recommend you not try to fix this yourself...rather, head right down to your provider and insist on warranty-level evaluation and support.
    Good luck!

  • My ipad 2 will only charge if the system is completely shutdown and it can take up too 7-8 hours to reach 100% 2 hours later I'm down to 12-13% what's wrong with it?

My grandson's IPad 2 won't hold a charge. It will only charge when the system is completely shutdown and it can take up to 8 hours to reach 100%! he's only 5 so he uses it to watch netflixs and playing games but a couple of hours after finally getting a full charge the indicater is down to 12%-13%. Keeping the system plugged up while he's using it doesn't do any good its like its not even plugged up. What could be wrong? Any assistance would be appreciated! I brought the IPad 2 in 2011 and gave it to him in 2013 when I brought myself the IPad Air...so its really not that old to be acting up...
