4HDD/11/40000000: SATA(0,0) error on AHT, but not on extended AHT.

I have the mid 2010 15" i7 MBP (no hardware upgrades except a replaced logic board in 2014) and I ran the AHT which gave me the 4HDD/11/40000000: SATA(0,0) error. After this I ran the extended test but no errors were found. I ran standard AHT again and then got the same error.
Is this error something I can ignore or should I take my computer in for a diagnosis at the Apple Store? Thanks.

We don't have charts to tell us what all the error codes mean. However, 4HDD is a hard disk drive error. If your drive appears to be working then I would take this time to make a bootable backup on an external drive just in case.
Clone Yosemite, Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion using Restore Option of Disk Utility
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
     1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
         button.
     2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
     3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
     4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
         to the Destination entry field.
     5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
         the Source entry field.
     6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.

  • New MacBook Air 4HDD/11/40000000: SATA(0,0) Error

    My new Macbook Air has just produced the above error after running the Apple Diagnostics test, both the short test and the longer test.
    I've had problems since opening the box two and a half weeks ago. I always do a clean install, so after installing OS X, I used the key to install iLife11. The install got to 4 minutes to completion, then bombed out with an error. Tried shutting down, using the other USB port, even cloning the drive onto a 8GB memory key, but it still fails!
    When I got the air, it would boot into OS X well under 20 secs. Recently and also after the firmware update it was taking almost a minute. Even with a fresh install of OS X, I couldn't get it to boot in under 40 secs. I've reset the PRAM etc many times too.
    When I closed the lid and came back to the Air after a few hours, the screen would be unresponsive, pressing the trackpad would display the spinning beach ball. Even after a clean install, it would still do this.
    Looks like I will be booking a Genius Bar appointment. Nothing other than a new MBA will suffice, as I've totally lost all confidence in this faulty unit.
    Sam.
    I've had problems with USB software reinstall drive.

    First, why did you reinstall the OS on a brand new computer? And did you use the software restore drive for the OS reinstall?
    The new MBA will not run with earlier versions of the OS than what comes on the restore drive. If you did use the USB restore drive, you should have been ok. More than likely, based on the error listed in the subject, your SSD drive is failing, which would account for the long boot times and other problems you are having. The only way to fix the issue is to return it to Apple (or call AppleCare) to get it repaired under warranty.

  • I'm getting this: Error: 4hdd/11/40000000 SATA (0,0)

    I ran the Apple Start Up "D" test and it said Alert! Then is: 4hdd/11/40000000 SATA (0,0). Is there sometinhg really wrong????

    There are problems with your HDD.  Back up your data then open Disk Utility>First Aid and run verify and repair.  See if that solves the situation.
    Ciao.

    I've encountered 4HDD/11/40000000 SATA(0,0). AFTER SOME RESEARCH IN APPLE COMMUNITY, I LEARNT THAT IT'S A HARDWARE ISSUE. SO I WILL BE TAKING MY MACBOOK PRO TO NEAREST APPLE STORE. MY QUE IS, WILL IT BE FIXED IF I UPGRADE FROM OSX 10.8.5 TO MAVERICKS? What other options do I have? What can be an approximate cost for fixing this problem?

    Of course not. It's a hardware problem, so it can't be fixed by upgrading software. The only option you have got is to take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller.
    That error indicates a problem with the hard drive. What you have to do is to make a backup of your files and take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller, so they can confirm that the problem is the hard drive and not the SATA connector, which could be worse.
    If it's a hard drive issue, it's not expensive (about $100-200, depending on the hard drive). If it's a SATA connector issue, the whole logic board may have to be replaced.
    Note that you can replace the hard drive yourself if you want, but the cost between doing it yourself and taking the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller is similar

  • 4HDD/11/40000000 SATA (0,0)

    I recently got this error message when doing a disc utility check on my white macbook -  4HDD/11/40000000 SATA (0,0).
    Now everything I read has told me that this means my hard drive is failing.  After this happened my computer took forever to start, and when it did nothing would mount, including the dvd drive and anything plugged into the usb port, or any type of program like vlc.  Eventually the computer wouldn't even start.  So I decided before I declare it dead, I would try to reinstall mac osx 10.5.6 (the disc that came with this computer, which is by the way the mid 2009 white macbook 2.13 ghz).  So, when i inserted the disc, and tried to reinstall mac os 10.5, it worked.  Not only that, but when I ran the apple hardware test, no errors were found even when I ran the extended test.  Also, the computer starts up as fast as it did when I first got it, all the drives mount, and it basically is working as good as new (so far).  I was wondering, is it possible that the problem I was having is now fixed?  Should I trust that this computer is worth buying a new battery for (which it needs) and perhaps buying a new/cheap hard drive in case it fails again?  To me it's odd that not only is my computer working again, but it seems to be as efficient as it ever was.  If anyone could give me any answers or suggestions, i'd appreciate the help.

    Well I agree in a sense that I will be backing up important things pretty much everyday.  But I do think that i'm going to buy one of the cheap replacement batteries and a new hard drive that i'll keep to the side when this one does go.  I'm hoping to get about six months out of this machine, and I generally use it as a glorified netbook.  Does that sound reasonable?

  • Error in Solaris but not in Windows

    I have an application that is reading from a database, cleaning the results of all html tags, and writing to a new database. It all works fine on a Windows machine with jdk1.3. However, it throws the error I have attached to the message on the Solaris box. It has to do with the html cleaning. When I take it out, it works on both machines. Why though. Here is the code for the html cleaning and the error: 5 Dukes to whoever can help.

    Here is the code where I am calling the html cleaner method. This works fine in a Windows env but fails in Solaris. If I comment out the call to removeHtml(value).trim it will work. It will even work if I make a different call removeHtml("string to strip") from the main method. Why would it work in one place but not the other in Solaris, and why would it always work in Windows? Does anybody have any ideas?

    Any knows the reason?
    Thank you!

              The effect to use <jsp:forward> or RequestDispatcher.forward is different between
              BEA and Tomcat (even Websphere). Weblogic stores the output in a buffer, before
              the buffer reaches the limit, you can call those forward methods without obvious
              problems. Tomcat (and Websphere I ever tested) is not so tolerable. If you have
              send out something via Servlet writer or JSPWriter, or have something like HTML
              tags/text before forwards, chances are big to encounter the exceptions you have.
              So I use more include methods to assemble my JSPs and servlets, for the purpose
              of portability.

  • Error "ACL found but not expected on..." when doing repair permissions.

    I am getting an error on Disk Utility, Repair permissions.   I was having some problems with permissions and sought and received help through forum regarding changing my userid password through Lion Repair (Control R, etc.)  After finishing that ordeal, rebooting, etc.   everything seems fine and works well, perhaps slightly slow.   I decided to go into Disk Utility again and I repeatedly get the following errors...
    "ACL found but not expected on “usr/sbin/system_profiler”
    Repaired “usr/sbin/system_profiler”
    ACL found but not expected on “usr/sbin/systemsetup”
    Repaired “usr/sbin/systemsetup”
    ACL found but not expected on “usr/sbin/traceroute”
    Repaired “usr/sbin/traceroute”
    After about a 20-25 minute repair process, I clear the report ,exit disk utility, reboot the computer and I still get the same report.  Disk verify shows the hard drive to be functioning well.   What is the source of these errors and is there a solution.
    Thanks,

    I had those too.
    I used ACLr8 just now. Didn't know if it would work for Lion or not. Ran Disk Utility again and it didn't show any problems at all... after having several of the ACL's... which bugged me, even though they are not supposed to mean anything. :-)

  • MySQL error on localhost, but not remote!!

    I am getting an error of:

    I have closed the recordset using:

    But have had to use the following to hide the error:
    //if (is_resource($rs_reg_domain)) mysql_free_result($rs_reg_domain);
    and finally this is the recordset:
    mysql_select_db($database_conn_mrs, $conn_mrs);
    $query_rs_domain = "SELECT * FROM tbl_settings WHERE fld_settingsNAME = 'domain'";
    $rs_domain = mysql_query($query_rs_domain, $conn_mrs) or die(mysql_error());
    $row_rs_domain = mysql_fetch_assoc($rs_domain);
    $totalRows_rs_domain = mysql_num_rows($rs_domain);
    'domain' has a value.
    What's wrong?
    Thanks

    The reason you get an error locally, but not on the remote server is almost certainly because the remote server has the PHP display_errors configuration setting turned off. The error still occurs, but it's not displayed. Most hosting companies turn off the display of errors for security reasons.
    Looking at the code you have given here, it looks as though the error is caused by using the wrong variable name for the recordset. The recordset is $rs_domain, but you're passing $rs_reg_domain to mysql_free_result().

  • Errors on device but not simulator

    I just signed up for the Developer Program and got everything set up to run the app i built on the device. However, I get a slew of messages and I think all of which is because I imported CoreGraphics but for some reason it cant find IOKitLib.h. So I imported IOKit.framework and still I get 31 or so errors all because it can't find that header. Am I doing something wrong? The only extra framework I used for the app besides the 2 that XCode generates as a template is CoreGraphics. It worked perfectly in the simulator though...
    Thanks for your time!

    It's possible that when you added the extra framework it got added the wrong way, so that the simulator version is referenced OK but the device version isn't. It's happened to me a couple of times.
    With XCode closed, use Finder to locate your .xcodeproj file. Before you do anything else, make a copy of it in case you make a mess of it with your changes.
    Now do "Show Package Contents" on your .xcodeproj file. One of the files inside it is called 'project.pbxproj'. Edit that by double-clicking it.
    There are two things to check for. The first is in the PBXFileReference section. Look for the line that mentions CoreGraphics.framework (or whatever framework you added). It should end like this:
    path = System/Library/Frameworks/CoreGraphics.framework; sourceTree = SDKROOT;
    If there is something more elaborate (a lot of ../../ stuff, for instance), edit it to look like my example.
    The other thing is in the XCBuildConfiguration section. Some of the entries will have extraneous muck that looks like this:
    FRAMEWORKSEARCHPATHS = (
    "$(inherited)",
    /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneSimulator2.0.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks,
    Remove it altogether.
    Save the file after making your changes, and you should find that everything then compiles OK. If it doesn't, go back to your original version and look for other solutions.

  • MacBook Pro Retina, AHT Error: 4HDD/11/40000000: SATA(0,0)

    I have written this post to note a strange occurrence with my MacBook Pro, with retina display.
    When I had connected my classic iPod to iTunes, I had received an error message telling me that I was only using a USB 1.1 port.
    I knew that this was impossible, so I had run an extended Apple Hardware Test to see if I had any issues.
    Sure enough, I had received the above error.
    After a restart and a quick back up to save my data, I had performed the extended Apple Hardware Test 3 more times with no errors whatsoever.
    This message is not to solicit the "head down to your local Apple Store or AASP" advice.
    I am curious if anyone else has experienced such an issue and what was their ultimate outcome.
    For reference, I have a 15-inch, retina, 2.7 GHz, 16 GB RAM, 768 flash drive MacBook Pro notebook. I am running 10.8.2.
    Thank you!
    LukeD

    This is choice that is entirely within the OPs province.  I certainly agree with your position that intermittent issues are exceedingly difficult to diagnose and address.  Failure to recreate a problem does not mean that the issue does not exist.
    The support article that you raise has a certain ambiguity contained within.  It states: "looping can be enabled or disabled by pressing the L key" .  Which is it?  That aside, this is the first I have encountered this feature since it is not mentioned in any of the AHT articles that I have come across.  The real question is, did the OP utilize this?
    If I were in the OPs position and even considering the argument that you present, I still would make an appointment at the genius bar.  Call me Chicken Little if you will, but the warranty is there to erase any doubts whether the MBP has issues or not.  Apparently you would not, so I hope that we can agree to disagree on this issue.
    Ciao.

  • My mid 2012 Macbook Pro get a 4HDD/11/40000000: Sata(0,0).I just upgraded to a samsung 850 evo 500 gb ssd and i used super duper to clone it?

    I had no problems with my computer until someone told me to check apple's hardware test and now this code has me worried. Should I contact samsung about this and get a replacement drive or is it just apple doing it because its not from apple. One minor problem i had is when i shut the cover and then plug it in it sometimes crashes and gives me a kernel panic when i turn it back on. I just repaired my drive in disk utility and it hasn't helped now it crashes more!
    HELP!!!!

    I read it and i have been documenting the past two times it has had a panic attack and i saved the logs it gave me
