4s home screen functionality

Several issues trying to set up my home screens have me stumped. I'm looking for apps or settings to do some things and can't find them, nor can users (or Verizon support) offer suggestions:
Can I change the number of columns and rows on the home screen?
Can I arrange icons to my liking, say 4 icons on a screen, one in each corner? Or do they only load contiguously L-R and top to bottom?
Can I put direct dial/direct contact icons on the home screen, and if so, can they be placed in a folder? I don't want to use the apps that take me to a web based contact manager.
Can I call up the scrolling app list but have it default to a chosen set of 4 apps, or will it come up where it was left?
Is there an app that disables the lock screen, so that when the phone is woken up you go directly to the home screen?
Thanks for the info. If these are not supported functionalities I will, with my tail between my legs, return to android this weekend. And I am a die hard Mac user, since 1988.

Got my answers from customer support at Apple. In a word, no, no, no and no.
Unless someone finds some work-arounds, I will be waiting for iOS 6. And maybe longer.
How did Apple miss these simple and basic functions? It's PHONE. Why would you NOT have direct dial via icon/widget functionality?
DIsappointed, to say the least. They've always been state of the art function with state of the art interface. They have met the interface standard, but very poor execution of the technology itself......

Customizing the Home Screen Status Bar

I know right now that the ability to customize the home screen is more or less limited to the arrangement of the icons, right?
What I want is the ability to place a 'new mail' or 'new sms' icon at the top of the home screen, along the status bar where the time and signal strength are currently displayed.
That way I can see at a glance if I have new messages, even when the phone is locked, by hitting the unlock button at the top of the phone.
Luckily the SMS preview gives me that status, but I still need to manually unlock the phone with the passcode before I can see if I have any new email. I don't use an audible alert for incoming email.
I'd also prefer the option to have new sms messages neither display a preview nor even display a name on the home screen.
In short, I want more control over the behavior and display of the home screen. I've seen some rumblings that the Apple SDK disallows interaction with the home screen. If so, iPhone users are completely at the whim of Apple to include new home screen functionality.
I'm not happy with that arrangement.
Coming from the Windows Mobile word, I'm finding Apple to be a very closed system. I knew ahead of time that there would be some diminished flexibility, but I didn't expect this much of a drop.

Safari "Add to Home Screen" Gone

I recently did a fresh restore to my phone because it was acting a little buggy and now it seems that the "Add to Home Screen" function in Safari is now missing. I have a screen capture of it here: http://img.skitch.com/20100818-kbhen3hsrx2i6u66ru63mnbaya.png
I tried searching everywhere to see if it was removed from the newest update and checked all the settings and could seem to figure out or find why its gone. It appears to be not being discussed anywhere so I figured I turn here.
If anyone could help, it would mean a lot because I use that function a lot and its bugging me not to have it.

Here are a couple of things to try.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your app preferences and device settings again.
You can also try quitting the settings app and restart the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If neither of those things help, you may have to restore the iPad in order to get the settings app to function properly again.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. No such app exisits or can exist. Apple doesn't allow 3rd party apps to access core functions of the phone. Time to get your phone replaced or repaired if assistive touch doesn't needs your needs.

Why do all my apps never open and return to home screen?

GREAT, thanks for the fix to a bizarre problem that was driving me crazy! You can always count on Apple discussions, can't say the same about this whole "2.0 transition", it's been a bit rough and I can't get push contacts or calendars from MobileMe to work, but I'll give things a couple of days to get back on track.

Is it true that after updating to iOS7 I can no longer click the home button once from the home screen to lock the phone? I was in the habit of clicking the home button once to return to the home screen and then click it again to lock the phone.

This was a very convenient way of locking the phone to prevent inadvertantly opening an app or making a call when putting the phone in my pocket. Now it seems like I have to use my other hand to press the sleep/wake button on the top right.

No such function has ever existed. Doing what you suggest used to take you to Spotlight search, which is not required now as that can be accessed on every home screen with a pull-down.

N97 mini - blank/unresponsive home screen & nokia ...

I have been having problems with my Nokia N97 mini. It froze yesterday, and I removed and re-installed the battery to restart the phone. When the phone came back on, the email widget had changed from Nokia email to the messaging email option (the one that you get under the messaging icon - it doesn't download in real time and rarely downloads the full message).
It froze again and I had to re-start it again, and this time, the home screen went completely blank. It either shows the little boxes for the various widgets (they're empty), or the screen is completely blank. Occasionally the screensaver (slideshow of images) comes on. The home screen is completely unresponsive, and the only way I can get the phone to function is by pressing the menu button and navigating from there.
I have tried to re-load my nokia email so as to fix the email problem, but whenever I go to the "Email setup" or "Sett. Wizard/Email" options (under applications) the phone freezes.
I should point out that my phone downloaded Nokia Messaging 10.2 today, and the update history section says that the update was successful, but I'm still having serious difficulties.
I have tried restoring factory settings, but that didn't help. I'm seriously considering trying a hard reset of my phone but am unable to back up my information using Nokia Ovi Suite.
Does anyone have any suggestions re how I can start enjoying my beautiful phone again?

I would recommend trying the hard reset. If you can't backup using Ovi Suite you could trying either synching your phone with Ovi Suite or MS outlook or backing up to a memory card. Better still do all the above to be sure.

How to add a shortcut to home screen of iphone 5s

I would like to add a shortcut to my home screen. Specifically, I would like a shortcut to my voicemail and a shortcut to call my guy.

You can't add a shortcut to a function within an app (voicemail is part of the Phone app). There are 3rd party apps that can call specific phone numbers, however. Search the app store. You can also add shortcuts to web pages.
Have you added the numbers you call frequently to the Favorites page in the phone app? With that you can call a number with 3 taps (Phone, Favorites, Name). And voicemail is only 2 taps (Phone, Voicemail).

Video mirroring of Ipad2 using component cable only displays videos but not home screen

I watched videos online that show that I should be able to view my ipad2 home screen and apps while I'm video mirroring on my television but I can't see anything (only hear the audio) except when I play videos or watch youtube and use apps that have the TV Out function...Is there anyway to fix it?

I mean I can only view videos that I play on my TV from my Ipad2 but other than that I can't see my Ipad home screen on TV or any other apps that I open, though I can hear the audio. I'm using a component cable. I thought that I should be able to view my home screen etc with the cable?

I, for a moment, had a very nice home screen free of any apps whatsoever. That is until I downloaded another app then my clean, app free home screen was replaced with what was on page 2 screen. Full of apps...
What I had done to get all the default app off home screen was to create and move all to a folder then position it down to the bottom bar. It worked nicely until...
I'd like very much to have zero apps on my home screen. I've got a beautiful photo I don't want cluttered by apps. Kind of like my desktop Mac with all the icons stashed into one folder.
How can I get back my clean, app-free home screen? It really was cool for me.

I guess I fooled the iOS for a short time.
It reall was pretty cool and it mimicked my iMac desktop. I got the idea of well, if you can't move the default app icons to other pages, then why not put them all in a folder and place them down on the navigation bar ( new iPad and don't know the name of the bar on the bottom).
It was worth a try. At least while it lasted it was a clean home screen.
I would like to have that particular option in the future. It do understand that to some it is counterintuitive. But to me, it wouldn't even matter if I had a last page with no apps just to have a app free page. Kind of like a picture functional picture frame.

When i open the cover of my ipad Air i get the home screen Im sure i used to get the lock screen

I have my iPad Air kept in a third party cover which operates the sleeep/wake function
I have just become aware that when i now open the cover, i get a home screen and not the lock screen
is this something that has changed with the intro of ios 8.1.3
I miss the time and date when i now open the cover

Just had some second thoughts on this
1/ My wife says her iPad2 does the same
2/ I think that if there are any notifications then the Lock screen will appear - will have to try this
3/ If i operate the sleep/wake button manually ( the button at the top RH it works ok

Delivery Address coming as a default in the home screen for creating a SHC

Dear Experts
I have done some changes in the delivery address and while saving it was asking to maintain as a default address otherwise it was not able to save the changes I made.So I maintained it as a default and saved the changes.
Now the issue is when we are in the home screen for creating a SHC this delivery address is coming as default.As we dont want this dekivery address to be default on the screen and the requirement is that user should be able to search the delivery address.
So we dont want that defaulted address.The other reasons were also checked and no where in the attributes we ahave maintained this default delivery adress.
Can you please help us how can we remove this defaulted delivery addres in the SHC creation screen.

I again repeat I think you have not understood my question.These are very basic things you are mentioning about how to change the delivery address.i know all about this and in my query I have clearly asked that during the change option its asking to maintain the default delivery address and even if I dont select it my changes wont be saved.Second is even if I maintain another delivery address only then from the first delivery address the default screen will be unticked.
Because the issue here is that what ever the delivery address is maintained its defaulting in the shop screen for the creation of the SHC.
So my reequirement is how to set this.I have checked attributes and nowhere this delivery address has been maintained.
Brief about Issue:
We have done some changes in the delivery address (Transaction Edit
internal addresses in the URL screen)and during the save it was asking
us to maintain it as a default address without which it was not able to
save.So after saving on the creation of the shopping cart screen this
delivery address is coming as a default value.
We dont want this to be defaulted and the user should have the search
functionality for the delivery address.This problem is happening for
the org id for which I have done the changes.When i assign my user id
to the other org id the defaulted delivery address is not shown on the
shopping cart creation home screen.
We have checked in the attributes of the user and the org id and
nowhere this delivery address has been maintained.
I have checked the settings for the other org id for which it was not
showing as defaulted on the shopping cart creation screen and compared
these two and was not able to find any difference.Could you plase let
us know the problem in this case.
