4s ios 6.1.2 wifi disabled.grey.gone.what can i do?

I've the same problem.
I've changed 3 Iphone for this problem.
The only solution is change the telephone and pray... This problem is caused by the IOS update.
My problems started in the same time with the update on IOS 6 and they are still present. I've contacted the apple support and they told me switch telephone.
Do you have any different news?

Honestly, apple should be ashamed, i bought about 7 iphones, 6 ipads and 6 mac books over a short period of time, i am using the iphone 4s and as many people mentioned the wifi is greyed out, i went to the apple store and they said its a hard ware issue and i need to pay 200 usd (in china shenzhen)
I mean my phone is 1,5 years old and it seems like millions of users have these issues
Apple you guys should be ashamed!!! I will switch away to samsung

Whilst Apple has not released any official information on the issue, the general consensus is that there is a Firmware compatibility issue on some models (note: not all) of the iPhone 4S.
This occured during the jump from iOS 5 to iOS 6.
The only concrete solution is a device replacement.
Apple should be assisting with this matter.

Iphone 4s on iOS 7.1.2, wifi disabled when phone is locked

Hey, So i do not have 3g connection. So whenever my iphone is locked the wifi seems to drop until i turn it back on. It never did this before now im receiving iMessages LATE, im talking 5-45 minutes late. What can i do to change this?

More than likely that is the reason. The only way for you to receive an iMessage is if you are connected to the Internet. If your Wi-Fi is off, as it is when the phone is asleep and you have no other data connection, then messages will not be delivered until you connect to the Internet again. So if you only data connection is Wi-Fi, then you would have to have the device connected to power to maintain a constant Wi-Fi connection. If not, then the connection will go to sleep. If a person that is sending you the message has "Send as SMS" activated on their device, an iMessage failure would result in the message being sent/received as an SMS (regular text message).

Dear Apple.
I was really happy with my iphone4s, IOS 6.0, great product amazing quality and posibilities BUT.......
I updated from IOS 6.0 to 6.1.1. and the WIFI nightmare started.
I waited for a new update to fix the WIFI problems and I updated my iphone 4s from 6.1.1. to 6.1.2. in order to solve these problems related with WIFI connections.
But IOS 6.1.2. is even worst:
- WIFI is not working at all. So I cannot download apps greater than 50MB.
- Battery life is shorter than ever.
- 3G goes in and out every minute.
- When you operate the iphone4s you can realize that is hotter than before.
These problems are unnaceptable and inconsistent with a high quality standard product.
You can read a lot of blogs, I am not the only one.
Please give us a solution as soon as possible.

At an apple forum they said that updating will solve this problem. I just updated it to 8.0.2 but still wifi is greyed out. In settings>general>about, there is an option of wifi address which shows N/A. What is the problem? Is is the hardware? Kindly guide me.

Most likely the iphone was hacked to unlock it from the original carrier
updating the iOS will relock a hacked iPhone to that Carrier

Hi today i update to IOS 5 on my Verizon iPhone 4 and now my wifi doesnt work. When i go to configure my wifi place next to were it says wifi in the settings is greyed out and says "no wifi". i obviously cant tap it and configure it. I dont know what's going on! it was working on IOS 4.2.10 literally 2 minutes before updating and now it doesnt work! i have NOT dropped my iPhone or spilled anything on it. I'm having the same problem with my AT&T iPhone 4.
After installing ios5, WiFi was greyed out in settings. I turned my phone off and back on, and wifi was back. It saw my 2 routers, and allowed me to input my WEP passwords for them, but then, when I went to an app that used wifi, Safari, it wouldn't connect, and listed "Not Connected" Going back into WiFi prefs, it appeared to be searching for networks, but didn't find any. Not my 2, nor any of the neighbors. I usually see 3-4 networks other than my own.
Turn it off and on again, WiFi greyed out again.
Reset all settings - Wifi back, but with the same results as the first time.
Reset network settings - Wifi still greyed out.
I see this has happened at other new iOS releases, but never to me. Hopefully there will be a patch soon. I do have unlimited data, but dang 3G is slow.
I'm going to back up my phone this morning, and do a restore to factory settings, and see what that does, besides totally screw up all my apps.

Software cannot damage hardware. However, the process of updating the iOS generates heat from the processor. If the wi-fi chip (and a higher than normal percentage of iPhone 4S units have defective wi-fi chips) is damaged by this heat, the wi-fi will grey out.
It's not the software directly; it's the heat generated indirectly by the processor running at a higher capacity than normal. In essence, it's a defect in the device, either a wi-fi chip that has lower than normal heat tolerance or a processor that generated higher than normal heat.
Hardware, not software. And hardware issues are handled under the normal warranty or AppleCare, whichever you have.

Just an update it is a hardware issue and very common for iPhone 4s. I have to get my phone rewired which basically means new wireless chip. The amount of money I spent on buying an iPhone I should not expect to have anyway hardware problems happening. Make sure you have a warranty as luckily I've saved myself from spending more money to get this problem fixed.

Hey, I just upgraded to ios 6.1.3 and my iphone wifi button greyed out also my processor started hanging a lot so i tried number of methods like software restore, freezer but nothing happened instead i also upgraded to ios 7 and i tried freezer method again which ruined my iphone's audio, now its audio is very less

What a a lot of people have been telling me is to turn Airplane Mode on and then reset settings and iPhone, and that should sort it.
I haven't done it myself, But you could give that a go
As for the audio, sorry I don't know about that.

Ios 6 wifi now greyed out, unable to turn on

Upgraded both myself and partners 4s handsets and ipads. ipads and one handset fine, my wifi has greyed out, Tried all the usual help guides any other suggestions? rebooted, reinstalled, reset network etc am baffled and pretty hacked off tbh!!!!
Nearest apple store is brighton (20 miles away) so am guessing i have to make and appointment and get it replaced? (its 6 months old)

If your wifi is greyed out:
you need to go to the apple store. You're wifi chip has expired! Wifi chip experation dates were checked upon the new software, that is why some iPhones still work and others don't. They will replace it for you free of charge (don't quote me on this). It was free for me.
I myself have an iPhone4S and they told me exactly this.
