4s keeps saying cannot get mail
everytime i open up mail, it says cannot get mail, connection has failed.....i have to keep trying but everything else works!
Same here. Only after clicking several times on "OK"under the message i can read the emails normally.

I logged in to my account on my laptop and everything seemed to fix itself and everything was fine when I get on my computer but I am still not able to get new mail through my phone. It still keeps giving me the "Cannot Get Mail" message on my phone.

It sounds like you are getting a message that your password is incorrect after you changed the password for your email account. I would try these 3 troubleshooting steps from the following article to help troubleshoot the AOL account connection:

Log in to your email provider's website to ensure that the account is active and the password is correct.
Restart your iOS device.
Delete the affected email account from your device.
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Choose the affected email account, then tap Delete Account.
Add your account again.

My Yahoo email asks me daily for my email password or says the connection to the server failed. Is anyone having this problem currently? I noticed old messages in chat mentioned the same problem. I get into my Yahoo email fine on my desktop computer for several weeks without re entering a password. But the IPad does not seem to be connecting daily with Yahoo without putting a password in again.
So, I didn't change anything and now it is working better. I still get the odd error though.
I have a feeling this has something to do with the SSL update Apple released and it was their server side. -
I keep getting an error pop-up when I try to access my email. The pop-up says Cannot Get Mail The connection to the server failed. I get this pop-up on both my iPhone 5 and my iPad. I can still access my email, but the pop-up is real annoying. Can someone please help me with this? -Stu

It sounds like you're seeing an alert message when opening Mail on your iOS devices. Do you have multiple email accounts setup on the devices? I recently upgraded to IOS 5, as well as connected to a cable network instead of dsl, updated iTunes and sync'd my iPad to my Windows XL and got on board with iCloud. Now I keep getting a message that says, " cannot get mail, user ID or password incorrect" with options of choosing OK or going to settings. If I choose the settings, it brings me to account info with my email address and password ( dots) Then if I erase the password and put it back in, it says it's incorrect and if I save it, I may not receive or send mail. If I go directly to my account from the settings icon, and erase my password there instead, and then re- enter it, then it verifies it. Regardless of anything I do, the same message keeps popping up and is very annoying, as well as interrupting. What's wrong, please?
Thanks for answering, but I should've clarified... The message keeps popping up every couple of minutes. Sometimes as soon as I click OK, it comes back again. I tried deleting the account and re-entering it again, but that didn't work. I tried resetting my iPad by holding both the on and the off switch down until the apple appears...still no help. I went to my PC, and logged into my account and viewed my email without any problem. Is this a problem with my iPad or Yahoo? I called a Yahoo line, and was told I had reached the wrong extension, since it was a line for technical assistance only, and then he hung up. What can I do next?

I had EXACTLY the same problem for more than two weeks, that was NOT solved by speaking to BT 'Tech Support' - they kept saying that the problem was the fault of Apple - untill I finally got some help from them today (Mon 7th Oct).
The error message I got - despite ALL settings on my iPhone(5) and iPad(4) being absolutely correct - was this:
'Cannot Send Mail', 'The username or password for SMTP: ***********@mail.btinternet.com is incorrect'
The only solution I got - eventually - from BT is to delete the above account fro the device and 're-install' it again, but THIS time use the 'Yahoo' option from the list of choices rather than 'Other'.
When I did this and entered the relevant Name, E-Mail Address, Password, and Description (you can call the account whatever you like), I selected 'next', then I got the word 'Verifying.......' appear after a few seconds, and then I saw the four 'blue tick marks' appear next to my entries.
These 'blue tick marks' confirm the verification that your details are correct.
The next time you open your e-mail client on your iPhone or iPad you shoud see your ****@btinternet.com e-mail account in the list of e-mail accounts on your phone (if you have more than one) with a Yahoo icon next to whatever name you chose to call it. If you already have a Yahoo! account (like me) it is probably a good idea to call the 'BTYahoo' account, BT or something, rather than keep the default 'Yahoo' name otherwise you will have two with the same name in your accounts list.
You SHOULD eventually get back ALL the e-mails that were previously in your inbox, as well as some 'extra' folders that you probably did not have when you first set up the account on your iOS device.
That is what happened when I reinstalled my account, so I hope this works for you.

mail.app pops up saying "Cannot get mail: The user name or password for "iCloud" is incorrect", that is not true because i can log in on iCloud.com with the same credentials setted in mail.app. But the strange thing is that i can get the email! Let me explain: mail.app download the emails normally but when it check for incoming mail and there are no one, the alert pops up.
This is not a critical issues, i can get the emails anyway, but that alert is really annoying.
I've alredy changed the password of my appleID to a new one, but nothing changed.

Try deleting and recreating the account on your iPad.

If it is new phone, your password may not have transferred. Go to Settings - Mail and click on acct you are having issues with - where it says account click and reset your password. It should work from there. I had the same issue
