4s making random calls (beware of what you talk)

Got this sexy looking black 4s, played with siri etc and today I get a call from my friend who tells me I called him 5 times in the last 15 mins. I was shocked. When I checked my call history I didn't place a call from the morning. I thought it might be a bug with the phone itself and then checked my atnt to see it something triggers the calls, was disappointed to find that the calls didnt show up in my calls made history with atnt. This is so crappy to find out from your friend that he heard all your personal talks. Had to switch it off before it called him back again. If phones like 4s do such things this can really be a downside for Apple specially if it happens with confidentially sensitive discussions, not sure if its the provider or the phone itself. Phone has already acted up weird with the VoiceoOver being enabed and locking me into the blind man's world. Did an facetime and the phone was cooking. Is it for real that black iphones heat up more then white iphones?. Anyone else seeing these similar issues, would be surprised if its just one iphone outta 4 million+ sold that has these issues.

I have the same issue.  I was out shopping the other day and my phone called my boyfriend 22 times.  Today it called him 5.  This is ridiculous!

    my husband's brand new 2 day old 5c is making random calls, facetime calls and sending emails while locked and not in use.  i have read that this is an ongoing issue, but have not seen a solution for it.  any suggestions?

    if you search "random calls" there are several threads, one of which started in 2010.  i will try turning off voice dial and hope that solves the issue.  will report back tomorrow with an update.
    thanks!

    My phone is making random calls. anyone know why?

        Hi Lmferry,
    Sorry to hear that your phone is making random calls. Let's get that issue resolved. It is recommended that you add a lock code to your device to prevent it from making random calls. Please go to Settings> Location and Security> Set Up Screen Lock.

  • IPhone4 making random calls when locked

    The first that I knew about my iPhone4 making random calls was when I received a call from someone I hadn't spoken to (or tried to ring) for at least 2 years.  He said that I had called him.  I disagreed as my iPhone had been in my pocket for some time.  I had the screen locked (locks automatically after 1 minute and needs a passcode to unlock it).  I had not touched my iPhone for several minutes AT LEAST and had not even looked at this person's details in my Contacts for at least 12 months.  I checked my Contacts to see whether his details were showing as having been recently viewed in Contacts - no they had not.
    I keep my phone updated, usually updating to new software within a day or so of a notification.  The software was up to date.  That was about a month ago.  In the last few days my phone started making voice dialled calls to random numbers while in my pocket.  Again the screen was locked and I only became aware of the problem due to the phone "speaking".  Again, the phone was locked and hadn't been used for some times.  It still needs a passcode to unlock it.  I turned the phone off and restarted it after it had been off for about 20 minutes.  Shortly after that it made another random call.
    I used to work for a Telco and I always disbelieved customers who said that they had not mt made calls that they had been charged for.  Now I'm starting to wonder...
    Yesterday my iPhone (again keypad locked and in my pocket) started playing music.  I could not get it to stop or even unlock my keypad.  I had to shut it down completely.
    Help please.

  • Skype making random calls I don't make

    Hi,
    skype is making calls to my contacts when we are both online, but these calls were not place by me, skype is randomly and independently doing this. Does this happen to anybody else?! This is crazy, and it is beginning to happen so frequently that it is causing real problems. Is there someone that can help, any advice?
    I'm using Windows 7, skype version 6.6.0.106, I have multiple antivirus software programs each which is run several times per week, and there are no programs accessing skype (nothing under Manage API Access Control settings).
    Sorry if I've posted in the wrong area, I'm new to the sommunity. Thanks for any advice!

    I've got the same problem, along with multiple people on my friends list. We're all getting random calls from each other, each with different past dates, none of which were ever actually made. (As in the calls were sent from the past... and we just got notified. The dates calls were made to me so far have been Sept 25, 29, and Oct 1)
    I can also say that none of us have touched suspicious links like the one you mentioned for the 'lol is this your pic?' virus.
    In the tools->advanced->manage other programs there is nothing listed, so I doubt that a program being there is the issue.
    Daily virus/malware/spyware scans are also performed on each of our computers, with nothing significant ever being picked up.
    We are all running Windows, and I know at least two of us are running the newest version of Skype.
    And it really isn't a big deal since it doesn't seem to be causing any harm, but it would still be nice for it to stop affecting people ^^ So hopefully we can get this checked~

  • Making random calls...

    Hi,
    My new phone seems to like calling people randomly.
    I use it exactly the same as the previous iphones I've owned locking it with the botton at the top. It's usually in a griffin wallet style case supplied by 02.
    At first I thought maybe I hadn't locked it and had pressed the screen accidently but after dozens of random calls I don't think so...
    Anyone else having similar issues? Could it be the phone unlocks itself?
    Thanks
    John

    Hi,
    I'm having the same problem. I went into an apple store and we figured out how to turn off the voice dial. You can only turn it off if you have a passcode lock on it(Mine however doesn't actually turn off so I can't tell you if that's on all phones or my particular phone is glitched).
    To turn it off go to General Settings > Passcode Lock > Enter your password (or create one) > Voice Dial should be the 5th option down and just turn it off. Hopefully it will work in your case, I on the other hand have to make another trip to Apple.

  • Random calls since iOS4 update

    My phone keeps making random calls since I ran the iOS4 update. It made a call at 4:15 this morning, and it was sitting on the nightstand plugged in to the charger. I was asleep, and nowhere near it to initiate the call. I got a call back, wondering what was wrong that I called so early, and didn't talk when the call was answered.
    Any ideas on what the problem is with random calling on 3GS?

    I've noticed this too, and can't figure out how to get it to stop, though I might have just figured it out.  I think it might be the Mail app, which grabs my Gmail.  In Settings>Notifications Center>Mail, I found that a 'New Mail Sound' was set as a default to be a 'quick vibration'.  I've turned Vibration to 'None'.  I can't be sure this is it yet, but fingers crossed.

  • Random calls

    My wifes I - phone 5 has started making random calls to people in her contact list. The phone is 14 months old ( out of warranty).

        That's strange, dougjak. Did this start happening after a particular application was installed? Has she recently put on a new case or screen protector? Please go to Settings>General>About and make sure your phone shows Version 7.1.1 (11D201). If not, make sure to update your wife's phone using the steps at http://vz.to/1otp00h.

  • TS3406 Problem with iPhone 5 making/receiving random calls ("butt dials")

    My wife and I have iPhone 5's.  Since last Friday, my phone has made and received random phone calls ("butt dials") including FaceTime calls.  My wife's phone has even called itself.  The only common denominator is that the person making the random call has an iPhone.
    My phone and my wife's phone have the latest software (7.1.2) and we had the batteries changed under warranty through Apple last Friday.  Any ideas?

    Hi becausewemust,
    It sounds like you have sound issues with your iPhone only when using it as a phone, not at other times, is that correct? And you have already tried resetting the phone by turning it off and on. A very frustrating situation to be sure. Let’s see if we can get you up and running.
    At this point I would suggest restoring the iPhone as a new device. See the steps in this article -

  • TS3367 I'm having trouble making Facetime calls with my iphone 4s.  I can receive them; however, I can not make them.  Any ideas of how to fix this? PLEASE HELP!!!  Thank you!

    I am having a problem making phone calls using Facetime.  I was able to use it on two separate occassions; however, now I can not.  I can receive calls, but can not make them.  Not sure what to do.  Any ideas?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you VERY much!

    There are a lot of posts in the forums today with people having problems with iMessage.   There was also a published outage yesterday, so it's possible there are still some issues that may be impacting you both.
    I would just wait it out - I'm sure it will be sorted out soon.

  • I get an error message "iPhone is already on a call" when making phone calls from Macbook Air. What can I do to fix this problem?

    I have followed the instructions exactly according to Apple for making phone calls from my Macbook Air. Im signed in to iCloud on both devices. Im on the same wifi network. Wifi calls is turned off on my iPhone. Any suggestions?

    Howdy jcannon130,
    Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.
    To troubleshoot this issue where your Mac believes you iPhone is still on a call while trying to make a call from your Mac, please first reset your iPhone, and then verify you have the settings configured correctly on your Mac and iPhone.

  • What you call a robust method?

    in my project X, i am writing a method whose parameter should not be null, like the following:
    public class MyClass {
      public void myMethod(MyObject obj) {
        if (obj!=null) {
          // do something.
        return;
    }In order to make my method robust, i have several choices, but i dont know which coding style is the best.
    1, do not check obj, and if it is null, NullPointerException will be thrown out automatically when i use the null object.
    2, check the obj and throw out a runtime exception (NullPointerException or IllegalArgumentException) myself, like this:
    public void myMethod(MyObject obj) {
      if (obj==null) {
        throw new NullPointerException("MyObject cannot be null.");
      // do something...
      return;
    }3, check the obj and throw out a self-defined exception, like this:
    public void myMethod(MyObject obj)
    throws MyException {
      if (obj==null) {
        throw new MyException("MyObject cannot be null.");
      // do something...
      return;
    }At my point of view, the first one cares nothing about the legality of its parameter, and thus is not robust enough. The second one is silly because i have to add the same code at the beginning of all my methods. The third one is even sillier because i have not only to add the same code at the beginning of all my methods, but also to catch exception everytime i call them...
    So...who can give me some advices?
    thanks.

    This is not a problem to do with robustness, this is a reliabilityproblem.
    Reliability means that the operation behaves in a predictable manner regardless of the environment.
    Robustness means being able to act in a predictable manner regardless of the circumstances without causing unexpected exceptional conditions.
    If you leave out the null reference check your method will act reliably in that a NullPointerException will be thrown at the point where the instance is referenced.
    To make your method robust you have to be active in what you do, in this case throwing a NullPointerException as a result of the check for null makes sense as you control the message in the exception rather than relying on the default one.
    Throwning an IllegalArgumentException is not the correct thing to do. The problem here is that there is no argument passed here rather null (no value). If you do further checks in the method for legal values and then your method considers the value passed to be outside of constrainst then throwing IllegalArgumentException is the correct thing to do.
    Creating your own class of Exception or RuntimeException for this purpose is a decision you have to make for yourself. If the argument checks are supposed to be rigorous then checked exceptions (subclasses of the Exception class) should be used to force callers of your method to handle the potentional exceptional condition. In this case it makes sense to create and use your own Exception class. If they are not rigorous then NullPointerException and IllegalArgumentException are probably sufficient.
    You should look at the Tutorials here for help on how the JavaBeans framework for property change support works as well, it provides some helpful insights into this problem.

  • After loading the new OS now my songs do not play correctly. Titles are wrong on songs and it just doesn't play certain songs in random play or even if you select them individually. What's up? Kind of frustrating!!!

    After loading the new OS my songs do not play correctly, is anyone else having this issue? Titles are wrong on songs and it just doesn’t play certain songs in random play or even if you select them individually. What’s up? Kind of frustrating!!!

    I had the same issue.  In fact I posted it yesterday, but didn't get any replies.  I physically synched my phone to PC iTunes.  on the PC, under the phone/music tab, I unchecked the synch music box and then the apply button to remove all of the music from my phone.  Then once that synch finished, I went back and selected all music, and synch music and apply to put it back on to the phone.  So far, I haven't had an issue again, but I also haven't listened very long.  Hope this helps!

  • When making a call if you touch the phone with your face, you touch the speaker or mute button

    When making a call if you do not roll the screen to home if you have the phone to close to your face it touches the mute or speaker buttons. Is there a setting in the phone that will automatically roll the screen so if you touch with your face it does not happen?

    There is a sensor that disables the screen when you hold the phone to your face. If you didn't remove the plastic film from the front of the phone, or you have a case on the phone, it can block that sensor and you will encounter the symptom you describe. So try removing any case and check for the shipping film (which is hard to see).

  • Good day my question is , does anyone of you experiencing when making a call with facetime the phone shuts off and restart

    good day my question is , does anyone of you experiencing when making a call with facetime the phone shuts off and restart

    See this veeeeeeeeeery long thread.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3404857
    It's an issue with hundreds of phones.  Some claim it's software related, some hardware, some say it's a mixture of both.
    Some people have had temporary success with quitting the Phone.app / restoring as a new phone / restoring from an iCloud backup / disabling Siri / toggling speakerphone on & off...
    Unfortunately all of the above only been temporary, with the problem recurring again after a few calls, or a few days etc.
    So far the only solution that seems permanent has been to replace the phone.  But even so, it's the luck of the draw to recieve a functional phone, and not another faulty one.
    I'm completely annoyed as there is no Apple Store near me...... and Apple haven't even acknowledged the issue, despite the above thread being 34 pages long, as of writing.
