Really... are you certain of that?
Basic troubleshooting is reset, restart, restore.
Has any of that been tried?
What exactly have you done to determine that a "bug" exists?
Yes, all of that. 3 phones, all 4S's do this. it's a bug. I am not a newb.

  • Siri stopped reading my text messages

A few weeks ago, Siri stopped reading me my text messages. I used to always be able to say, "read me my last text message" and Siri would promptly read it to me, ask me if I wanted to respond, then let me respond by voice as well.
I was on iOS 7 and NOTHING changed, but one day a few weeks or so ago, Siri started just telling me that I "have no new messages" even when I clearly had new messages that just came in.
I updated to iOS 8 the other day thinking it would probably fix it.
It didn't. I can't figure out how to get it to work again.
I have not completely erased the phone and reinstalled iOS 8. I might try that, I just wanted to see if there's another known fix first before going through all of that.
Googling has turned up plenty of others who have had this bug too, but I can't find anything recently or anything that has actually fixed it for people.
Any known help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi DigitalDuderino,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know this issue must be very frustrating considering that this issue just started happening without you making changes. I would recommend working through the attached article’s troubleshooting steps to help isolate and resolve this issue.

  • Confirmed Bug in Siri - Texting a character not found in 7-bit ASCII Table Causes SMS to Fail

I am 99.9% certain I have singlehandedly discovered and solved a bug in Siri that causes SMS messages to fail (without a failure notice, i.e. red exclamation mark). This problem confounded me for several weeks. (Note: This issue does not affect iMessages.) After four hours of support phone calls to AT&T and Apple, 2 replacement iPhones (set up as new iPhones, and not restoring the backup), a SIM card replacement, a reprovisioning of my entire account with AT&T, and a very upset girlfriend who was understandably skeptical that I was really texting her when I said I was, I had no solution in sight, and my SMS woes persisted. I ended up solving the problem on my own through trial and error.
    THE PROBLEM:
When I dictate an SMS message, if I dictate the word "elipsis" it rightly interprets what I have said as "..."
However, as of today's date, Siri interprets "elipsis" an an extended ASCII version of "...", a version where the elipsis is actually one character and not three separate periods. The one character version of elipsis is not found in 7-bit ASCII.
If you try to text a character that is not 7-bit ASCII, your text message will not be received by the recipient, regardless of the recipient's carrier or phone, and you will not get a failure notice.
If you have any doubt whether Siri has interpreted "elipsis" as one character or as three, try deleting it. If the entire elipsis deletes simply by depressing delete one time, you have generated the single character (non 7-bit) elipsis, a character that cannot be texted, and which will "mysteriously" cause your text to fall into an abyss.
    THE SOLUTION:
It seems that the permanent solution is that the Siri servers or the iOS needs to be reprogrammed only to respond with 7-bt ASCII characters when the user depresses the Siri button to dictate an SMS message.  In the meantime, until Apple solves this probem, the user should refrain from dictating any punctuation that will cause Siri to respond with a non 7-bit ASCII character.
(Apple, I want a gift certificate for solving this problem.)

Too bad Apple will never see this post since this is a user-to-user site.

  • How do you get siri to display ? mark when sending a text message?

When I send a text message using Siri how do I get it to put in the correct punctuation? If I want to ask a question it bugs me there is no question mark.

You actually have to say "question mark" at the end (you can also say period, comma, etc)

  • In my iPhone 4 interface (running OS 7.0.4), a red number used to appear, to indicate a new text message. That number hasn't appeared for a few weeks. I can't seem to find a way to turn it back on using the Settings. Is this a bug?

A red number used to appear in my interface when I receive new text messages. That number no longer appears. Scouring the Settings to turn it back on hasn't been successful. Is this a new bug? How can I get the red number to appear again?

    Quit, then relaunch the App.
    Restart the device.
    Reset the device.
Reset all settings of the device.
    Test after each step.

Another thing to remember is the phone is actually usable for 911 calls and maybe others. Not a real good idea. Especially for a child.
It would depend however on the age of the child.
    Good Luck

  • Is it possible to use Siri to send text messages to groups? I want to be able to say to Siri "Send a text message to the people in 'group 4' category." I then dictate the text message, confirm, and out it goes. Groups of 100 to 250 contacts.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • TS2755 Siri will not send a text message to some of my contacts

I am using an iPhone 5 . When Siri is asked to send a Text Message to some members of my contact list it will...but some it will not. Mostly the one that cannot find are members of my family. This has only been happening the last couple of days. How can this be fixed?

    Hello mmurray550,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
According to a previous Support Communities thread marked as solved, green phone numbers are numbers not registered with iMessage, and would thus be SMS only.  Since you're using an iPod touch, it does not have SMS capability, and therefore cannot send a message to that number.

  • Why does Siri not read my text messages to me?

Why does my Siri not read my text messages to me?

If your phone is locked with a passcode and you ask siri to read any new text message, Siri tells you to unlock it first, which you do by entering the passcode and the moment you do that Siri says 'OK' and starts reading your message without you doing anything else.
However if you have not set the passcode in your phone and if your phone is locked (which means you have yet not done 'slide to unlock') and you ask siri to read the message then you will hear nothing..there will be silence ..and then 'siri will ask you to reply or read it again'. If you want to hear the message then first slide to unlock your phone and then ask siri to read for any new text messages and you will start hearing your message.
Let me know if this does not work.
    Cheers

  • HT204389 can siri read me my text messages?

can siri read me my text messages?

using SIRI we can read the latest message ony. but in a different way(not using SIRI) you can listen to the messages or even U can listen to the Looong articles on the web by just highlighting it(selecting the text). this feature is provided in iOS 6.U need to enable Speak option to check this. Settings > General > Accessibility >  Speak Selection. turn it on.
by next time u select the text U can see "Speak" along with Copy, Select All, Define...etc.  to listen to  any text message just touch the message and choose Speak and U can liste to it.

  • Siri and reading new text messages.

Why is Siri no longer responding "would you like to reply or read again" after reading back a new text message?

I never said there wasn't a change. What you expect and what Apple is planning or doing may not always be the same thing.  Speculation is prohibited on these forums but, I'll repeat what I said before and hope you can figure it out: Apple has said there will be new features and improvements in Siri with iOS 7. Sometimes, features get removed for various reasons in beta products and are put back in the later releases.
And, since you've never beta tested a product for two years, you must not have used Gmail until rather recently.

  • Siri can not read text messages

When asked to "read my texts" Siri will respond with something to the tune of "new text message from ....." then it goes quiet for bit until saying, "would you like to reply or should I read it again". This happens while in my car connected to Bluetooth. I have a Toyota Tacoma.
Since being able to verbally communicate by text while driving was meant to be one of Siri's killer features, I expected this to work.
    Any ideas?

You should mark this as solved so that everyone will not look at it and can concentrate on other questions that still need help.

  • Writing text messages... BUG

When i write a text message, the text does not scroll in the preview. In System font size 9, this works fine, but the error occurs at larger. i think it's a bug..

Ah, I see what you mean now, I've just tried it with 18 and it only shows the new line when you've typed (presumably to the end of the line) not while you're typing.
It's like the letters being typed are hidden off screen.
Definately a bug I'd report it if I were you.
