4S version 5.1 won't update to IOS 7
I have the Iphone 4s with the version of 5.1. and when i tried to install the IOS 7 on the device using my laptop, some messages pop out and won't let me proceed. Now I can't use my iphone because it needs to be connected to the iTune. What shall I do ?
If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

iOS: How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623
If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.
Cheers, Tom
If you have not already done so, you need to reset the iPad to the factory settings. http://ipad.about.com/od/iPad_Guide/ss/How-To-Wipe-Your-iPad-And-Erase-Data.htm This will erase all apps and files. Any apps that were downloaded by the previous owner using their Apple ID can't be updated using your ID.

IPhone 5s won't update to iOS 8.0.2
My iPhone 5s won't update to iOS 8.0.2. I had been using beta versions of iOS 8 but even though there is a '1' in the Software Update box, it tells me my software is up to date (iOS 8).
However, I also get messages telling me my current iOS will expire in x days. I now have dozens of apps waiting to update, telling me I have to upgrade to iOS 8.0.1 or later.
I've tried to manually install iOS 8.0.2 but I get a message saying the firmware isn't compatible.
Any ideas?Ask in the developer forum; someone there should be able to help you.

My iPhone won't update to ios 5 :^(
I have an iPhone, i'm not sure what kind, but it won't update to ios 5 it has ios 4.2.1 on it and when i click "check for update" it says "this version of iPhone software (4.2.1) is the current version". I am using a mac with os x Snow Leopard iTunes 10.6
Then it's probably and iPhone 3G, which can't be updated beyond 4.2.1. You can look here to identify it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3939.

My iphone 4s won't update to ios 6! please help!
My iphone 4s won't update to ios 6! I tried by my iphone it takes so long updating then it ends saying error!! I tried by using iTunes too, when it's done and installing it says error too!! this got me crazy!! any solution ? please help!
I got instructions to connect my iPhone4 to iTunes. Each time I was prompted to restore the phone, I ended up getting an error message that the iPhone could not be restored. I checked that I had the latest version of iTunes-I did. I tried two more times and got the same error message. I disconnected the usb/phone, closed iTunes, and restarted the computer. This time the restore worked and iOS6 loaded. Unfortunately, the last backup to iCloud that I was told I had was in June. Don't know why this happened as it should have backed up every day. Now I am working through restoring my settings and apps from the last three months. Thankfully, I didn't 'upgrade' my iPad, so I have a template off of which to work. I hope this helps.

IPod Touch 3rd generation won't update to iOS 5
My sister has an iPod Touch 3 and it won't update to iOS 5. Everytime I check for an update, it says "This version of the iPod software (4.2.1) is the current version". The apple website even says 3rd gen is compatible. Any help?
More than likely, the iPod is a 2nd generation one, in which case iOS 4.2.1 is as high as it can go. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353 to identify which model your sister owns.
(8GB or 16GB - it's 2nd gen. If it's a 32GB Touch you definitely need to check the linked page.) -
I had to restore my iPod when I bought a new computer and it won't update the IOS. iTunes tells me it is up-to-date, but all the apps say I need IOS 5. How can I update this? Thanks
If you are using IOS 4, you need to connect to iTune (computer) to update software.

I've rebooted the iPhone 4 several times (holding the home+power buttons down for several seconds. I've re-installed iTunes and finally got the IOS 6.1.3 update.
The whole process took over 5 hours.
Now, if only iTunes would not give me an error message trying to connect to my iPhone - i may be able to restore my apps... :-( -

Brand new iPhone 5s won't update to iOS 7.0.2
I just got a 5s about five hours ago and it won't update to iOS 7.0.2 because it says it's still restoring- it's not. I've tried restarting the phone but that didn't help.
Did you setup as new iPhone or restore from iCloud? If iCloud it must be doing restore in background for apps and data. Check in settings -iCloud and wait for couple off hours.

My 1st Gen won't update to iOS 3? :(
So, I've been trying to update my 1st Gen to the iOS 3 so I can use apps, and for whatever reason my iTunes not only deleted everything from my iPod, but won't update to the new iOS. So now I have an iPod Touch that doesn't work, and I'm out 5 bucks for the iOS that won't even work because of an 'unknown error.' Has anyone heard of this or know how to fix it... or why it's not working? Anything?
Oh, and by the way, I have the latest version of iTunes and everything like that, and I followed all the support steps on Apple's website.
Message was edited by: KikuitadakiI don't know what I did since I did everything I already tried before, but I fixed it. So nevermind. Sorry for the pointless thread.

HT5622 iPod touch won't update new ios
Won't finish update to iOS version past iOS 5.0.1
What exactly happens when you connect the iPod to your computer and update via iTunes? Error message?
If the iPod is not responsive then:
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

My wife has a new (less than 6 months old) big beautiful iMac (of which I am extremely jealous-but that has no bearing on the conversation at hand) but every time she tries to update her iPad 2 to iOS 5 on iTunes she gets the error code 3259 at the very end of the 40+ minute download. I own a Dell (over 1 1/2 years old) running windows 7 and I updated my iPad 2 to iOS 5 when it was first released with no problems. I checked the message boards and they said that they were most likely experiencing an overload of people trying to download off the servers and that was causing the download issues. So I waited and tried again....and again....and again....and, well you get the idea.
I can not fathom how my PC updated fine but my wife's iMac (running the latest update of Lion and yes she updated iTunes and did the firewall settings correctly) can't/won't update it to save her life. Does anyone have any ideas????
Thanks,
Luke 42697Hello jaideniv,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
First I would recommend this article named Can't connect to the iTunes Store found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1368. It will get you started with troubleshooting iTunes Store connection issues on the computer and the phone.
If needed there is a more advanced article named iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3297 that I would next recommend.
Take care,

My Mum has been given an iPad 1 by a relative who has bought an iPad Mini as a replacement.
She uses a PC so I have installed iTunes onto it and am trying to update the iPad to ios 5 (as a number of apps I'm trying to install for her just won't load without ios 5). However, every time I try to update it I get an error message saying "the disk is full. Removing files and emptying the Recycle Bin will free up additional space". I've emptied the recycle bin but it still won't work and I'm pretty sure the disk is not full as she doesn't use it for much other than surfing the net.
Can anyone help?If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

IPad2 won't update from iOS 4.3.5 to 6.0
I have the most recent version of iTunes, and it recognizes that I need to update to iOS 6, but just quits mid-update every time. No error message or anything. The only weird thing going on is that it always wants to Transfer My Purchases to iTunes before doing the update. Well, I did this manually before opting to update, but it still tells me there are some purchases that this computer isn't authorized for. Then it brings up my son's username, bc I guess he's logged into my iPad several times and downloaded something under his account, then logged out and logged me back in. Maybe that's messing it up?
