4s wifi failure after a few minutes.  Dimmed slider. May or may not recover on full start.  No improvement on iOS upgrade.  Hardware failure?

4S has wifi failing erratically over last few days.  Have restored, also upgraded iOS from 6.1.3 to 7. 0.4 all with no improvement.  Fails after on for a few minutes.  As in one support doc, wifi slider dimmed.  Support actions taken and NG.  support doc says contact apple, but w/o ACare, no indication of cost outcome or amount of help for price.  What is termed "rare" occurrence seems to have no successful outcomes I'Ve spotted.
This a hardware issue and any reasonable cost fix?
Note.  When wifi fails, initially would be back after full shutdown restart.  Now only very occasionally is back and only after hours of shutdown, and usually not at all.  Can see some flicker and on & off wifi in strong signal area in few minutes it does work.  Cellular reception OK.

Hi Curmud,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you have tried all of the troubleshooting steps recommended by the article iOS: Wi-Fi settings grayed out or dim.
Based on the information you have provided, it sounds like your iPhone needs to be serviced. The following link should help you get started with the process and has links with additional information on topics such as warranty and service pricing, battery replacement, and express replacement service.

  • IdeaPad A1000-F wifi hangs after a few minutes

    Hello,
Just got a A1000-F tablet and i encounter a strange problem with wifi connection:
Setting up and connecting to my home router (wpa protected) : ok, connection works.
Then, after a few minutes of usage, all network traffic stops ( no internet connection in apps, browser, play store, messenger and sync stops...). However wifi icon remains on and seems connected with full signal power.
Notice that router is connected to internet (other wifi devices are connecting fine)
I have to cycle wifi off and then on to make it work again, and it hangs systematically again after a few minutes.
Tried deleting and recreating wifi connection: no effect.
Same behavior when tried on another wifi network.
Tablet has been updated to last firmware (larger partition).
    Please help.
    Kind regards

Do a factory Reset. Go here:-

  • Recently my computer stops recognizing anything Bluetooth or USB related (wireless or plugged in) after a few minutes of computer use.

Recently my computer stops recognizing anything Bluetooth or USB related (wireless or plugged in, mouse, keyboard, printer, etc.) after a few minutes of use. I don't know if it's related, but recently I upgraded my iMac g5 (2005) from OSX 10.4 to Leopard 10.5 (I was told though, that my computer can handle the upgrade by Apple personelle). Also, I had the model that was released with a faulty power supply, but Apple fixed that problem for me a couple of years ago. My fan is also pretty loud (but has been for some time) and my computer takes longer to boot that it used to (this is a recent issue). I mention all of this in case there's a chance it's connected to the same problem. Any suggestions?

  • Screen Dims after a few minutes

My screen dims after a few minutes. It is annoying when trying to watch a news segment or DVD.I have went to the energy section and can't find anything to do with Dimming unless I am looking in the wrong section. The only thing I can find are settings adjustments for screen saver and such.
This is my fisrt Mac and I have had it for only 4 days.Yikes!!
I have only seen a couple people post on this subject.I take it that maybe there is no real solution except to take it to Apple.
    `

+~ Go into System Preferences open Energy Saver choose Options. Uncheck Automatically reduce the brightness of the display before display sleep. ~+
I don't mind the dimming (except in extended viewing situations), but is the apparent battery-saving effect of the dimming preferable to the presumable wear-&-tear on the screen of the frequent brightness changes that result from having 'automatic dimming' active?
Also, is there a way to put this under real-time control so that you can switch b&f between having/not having automatic dimming without having to keep opening System Prefs. each time?
    Thanks.

  • HT1595 Why does my wifi connection is lost in apple TV after a few minutes?

I have tried giving apple tv a static ip but the connection is lost after a few minutes and does not come back. I have tried re-booting the router as well as ATV!

I have this same problem, and apple said that it has to do with the router closing the ports so you have to call whoever makes your router and have them help you port forward. I did this and it helped for a couple months, then back to the same ol' same ol'.

The symptoms you describe with and ALS model are indicative of a power supply failure, and not an issue with electrolytic capacitors on the logic board.
I was speaking about the components in the power supply, although the Logic Board components are also in visually good condition.
My concern is; replacing the PS may place greater pressure on the components of the Logic Board, which are obviously of the same age. Precipitating a similar failure in the LB at an early stage...
£100 for a power supply is one thing, then the probability of £200+ for a LB replacement is quite another. £300+ is not a viable repair for a 5 year old iMac in my opinion.
A dealer or service provider can replace the power supply, which should completely address your issue EXCEPT to the extent that repeated, abnormal shutdowns have damaged your drive directory. Using Disk Utility as a first pass may address any such concerns. More extensive directory damage will require a utility like Disk Warrior.
Quite capable of replacing PS my self, not too worried about the warranty aspect now!
Agreed, repeated shut downs may have messed the directory. The contents have been duplicated throughout the life of the machine, so backup is not an issue, a reformat and zero of the drive would be a natural progression from replacing the PS, if we go that route.
The part required for replacement in an iMac 17 inch (ALS) model is the 661-3627. In the 20 inch (ALS) model, it is a 661-3625.
Thank you for your observations and help, also for the confirmation of the part #. There are some new on UK eBay right now @ £80 - £100.

  • IPod music suddenly becomes gibberish after a few minutes playing in a Bose SoundDock

When plugged into a Bose SoundDock (actually, two different ones) to play music, my iPod (5th gen 32G) suddenly changes to gibberish after a few minutes.  I have iOS 8.1.2 installed.  It does not do this when playing by itself or when plugged into my computer with the lightning connector.  My wife's iPod (also 5th gen on iOS8.1) isn't having this problem in either SoundDock.  I'm guessing there is either a problem with the lightning connector (but it works OK with my computer) or maybe more likely, some kind of software glitch with 8.1.2.  Has anyone else experienced this problem??

You can try the standard fixes:
    - Reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod from backup via iTunes
    - Restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod.
However, the problem may be that the car system is not compatible with your iPod and its iOS.  You might want to use the communities search box in the upper right and search for your car's make for similar problems.

  • IMac keeps on loosing internet connection after a few minutes...

Intel dual core iMac with 10.6.8 OS keeps losing internet connection after a few minutes. Need to put it to sleep and bring it up again. Than it works again...for a few minutes. Other equipment like laptops and iPad using same wifi internet connection and have no connectivity problem at all... What to do?

Then what I suggest that you do is go to the Finder and select Mac Help in the Help menu. In Mac Help go to Index>C>Connect to the Internet. There you can read all about configuring your Mac, using a modem, etc. After you better understand how all that works then come back with your questions.

  • 6950 2Go : green and yellow dots after a few minutes of play

    Hi,
I bought a radeon hd 6950 a few days ago. I didn't have any problem playing GTA 4 with my old graphic card but now I have some issues with the 6950. After a few minutes of play, some green and yellow dots (or crosses) randomly appear onscreen.
I have uninstalled my previous driver before installing the 6950. I have the catalyst 11.4 installed. Msi live update doesn't find any newer bios and the fan works. Do you know what the problem could be ?
Edit : here are my specs :
    CPU phenom 2 x4 965BE 3.4ghz
motherboard gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3 bios F10 (latest)
    Memory 2x4 GB CORSAIR DDR3 PC3-12800
    video card MSI R6950-2PM2D2GD5
hard drive Western Digital 500 Go 32 Mo 7200 tr/min - SATA II - Caviar Black
    A PCI express wifi card
    OS Windows seven 64
    PSU Corsair TX V2 650W +12V~53A, +5V~30A, +3.3V~30A

I play GTA 4 on steam. I checked the cache in case and it's ok.
It might be a problem with GTA4 now that you name it. I turned the game off as soon as the artifacts appeared for fear that it would damage my expensive device. The artifacts always appeared 4 minutes after I loaded my savegame. That's why I thought of a memory overload or a heat issue. However I eventually noticed that the game follows a weather scheme, and that it always rains 4 minutes after I load my savegame.
So I googled rain+GTA 4 and I found other people with similar issues. So it might be software related after all.

I'm sorry if I annoyed you or whatever. Don't be to hard on me though : I wasted a whole day running benchmarks and I have a mute-out-of-rage girlfriend in the kitchen.
Thank you and have a good day.
edit: wasn't this issue fixed by 10.12a ati drivers ?
