4th gen 2GB shuffle freezes iTunes when syncing

My 4th generation, 2GB, iPod shuffle freezes my iTunes each time I try to sync. I need to open Windows Task Manager to end the program because iTune becomes unresponsive. I went to the trouble of changing the path drive letter (whatever it's called) for the shuffle. I have the latest iTunes installed.
Is this generation of shuffle no longer compatible with the new iTunes? Is something else going on? I appreciate the support.

Hello alexander184
Try out some of the steps in the article below, like creating and testing it out in a new user to see if it the same across all users.

  • Ipod Touch (4th gen) freezes iTunes when sync'd.

A friend of mine has been having some problems and I have been unable to help him.  He bought a new iPod touch 4th gen at the weekend (couldn't resist the lower price or wait a few weeks until the new model) running ios 6, he has just updated itunes to 10.7 but everytime he syncs it iTunes freezes during part 5 or 6 of the sync process and does not recover.  His old nano (5th gen) syncs without issue, any ideas?  We have tried reseting the iPod to factory setings but this will only allow the iPod to sync correctly once.  When we try again iTunes freezes up.  We are pretty much at a loss, it's taken the shine of his new purchase.
    Thanks.

From what I can recall they are preparing to or waiting for changes to be applied, I don't have my laptop to hand so I can't check at the mo.  The status bar then does nothing at all, iTunes just freezes up completely.  The moving arrows by the iPod stop circling and we have to use the task manager to close the program, just in case it restarted syncing we left it for about 20 mins without joy.  Even unplugging the ipod makes no difference.

  • My ipod shuffle freezes Itunes when trying to sync on my pc but it works on my sons computer?

Can someone help me, I was given a 4th gen shuffle and tried to sync music to it on my computer but when I go to sync music itunes freezes, not my computer just itunes? I have no problems with my younger sons ipod 4 8gig? When we tried to sync music from my older sons mac it worked no problem? Very strange itunes is obviously identical yet for some reason will not work on my computer? I tried all kinds of way I found in other forums but nothing has worked. I have restored the shuffle I have even unistalled itunes and re installed on my computer? Nothing is working yet my sons mac no worries? Anyone have this issue?  Apple will not assist as no warranty left so assistance cost $$. Desperate please help I love the shuffle but do not want to rely on my sons computer. Thanks.
Oh yeah I am using Windows 7

I had something similar a couple of week ago, it would scroll then stop, scroll then stop.
At some point the porblem went away.
Try unpowering and restarting your AppleTV.  Rsetart iTunes too.

  • ISO5.1 in iPad freezes iTunes when syncing

ISO5.0.1 in iPad freezes iTunes on my computer when syncing, how do i roll my iPad Firmware back to ISO5.0?

  • IPod freezes iTunes when syncing

Today I put a few new songs into my iTunes that I burnt onto a disc from my friends house. No problem the songs when on just fine. Plugged in my iPod and it did the usual; back up the iPod, sync all of my apps. Then it tries to sync my music and iTunes and my computer freeze. Now none of my music is on the iPod. At all. But all of my apps are. I deleted the new songs from my library and tried again and it still froze when trying to put the music on. I've also restarted my computer twice. Help would be awesome. Thank you!

Ok, so I just got the new 64 GB iTouch for my birthday and I imediately plugged it in to my labtop, I got it all set up and what not and then I started suncing my music... I knew it would take a long time because I have over 5,800 songs. I get about 5,000 songs into the syncing prossess and then I get a pop-up that says "iTunes has stopped working: A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I have tried over and over to finish syncing my music and it just does the same thing, AND I haven't been notified of any "solution". I've tried changing it from manually managing my music to sync and that didn't do anything. What do I do? Should I re-download iTunes???

  • TS3572 My 4th gen ipod shuffle will not show up in iTunes

My 4th gen ipod shuffle will not show up in iTunes, and is not recognized by my computer. I am using a MacBook Pro purchased six months ago, with all software up to date. I am using the most recent version of iTunes, and the original factory connector.  It does charge through the computer, but is not seen by the computer.  I have gone through all of the recommened troubleshooting, and have verified that the connectors are plugged in properly.

    Thanks for a reply
The cable that I'm using came with my 5th gen nano. The 6th gen Ipod shows that it's connected but the computer doesn't see it, so I don't think that it's the cable.
I did try this before when looking at the troubleshooting guide and nothing happens. It just resets and then the Ipod screen tells me that it's connected to the computer. It still is unseen by Itunes and no where to be found in my computer.
I don't have another computer to plug it into at the moment but I may be able to visit a friend that owns a decent PC in a few days. If that doesn't work out I will be getting a new lap top in a week and I'm hoping that it will work on that, but it won't be a Mac. So, let's say it works when I plug it into one of these computers, should I reset my Ipod from there or is there something else I should do?

  • Sync iPod Touch 4th Gen to 2 different iTunes

Can you sync the same iPod Touch 4th gen to 2 different iTunes?
On my iMac early 2010 theres lots of songs I want on my iPod and on my Macbook Pro late 2011 theres photos I want on my iPod.

That means that you can connect the iPod other than your one syncing computer and copy music and videos from that computer's itunes library to your iPod.
The follows explans it but does not reflect iTunes 11 for exactly how to do it.

  • I have a 1st & 4th gen ipod shuffle.  When I copy a playlist to the 1st gen it plays back correctly.  The 4th gen plays back the same playlist alphabetically by artist.  The copy by play order function makes no difference.  Any suggestions?

I have a 1st & 4th gen Ipod shuffle.  When I copy a playlist to the older shuffle it plays back in order.  When I copy a playlist to the 4th gen shuffle it plays by alphabetically by artist.  I used the copy by play order but with no change.  Any suggestions?

This is crazy. What are those guys thinking. I would love to have my 2nd generation ipod shuffle back - it was so easy to use, so easy to operate, alas it was lost/stolen! There are 2 big disasterous (disaster to ease of use) changes in the ipod 4th generation. This particularly relates to podcasts. One is they only play in order by source/type of podcast. You cannot break out of that unless, you have someone to show you how to use the voice over which is not covered anywhere on the very thin manual or elsewhere. Secondly and just as bad but related also, you cannot line them up on your shuffle by date, preference, anything. ONLY apple will do this for you. I hate the thing and will return it today after visiting Apple 3 days in a row to try and get answers, trying to apply the answers and realizing beside the fact that some of the answers given were wrong, they were not going to lead to ease of use. Who said this was better? I was struggling with this (not knowing how to break out of one type of podcast) until i went to Apple and talked to about 4 people who knew less than i did about the shuffle. OUr family has just bought 2 new macbook pros for my son and wife. I have had my macbook for 4 years and love it. I had my ipod shuffle (2 gen) for the same time and loved it but now I don't trust Apple. Are they going to make changes just to make changes. • Help needed with 4th gen. iPod shuffle and "reshuffling" music

I have a silver 4th gen. iPod shuffle that works well for me.     I had 196 songs on it and in the last couple of days, I added 14 more.  Now, I have 210 songs on it.  Cool.  The issue I have is NONE of the new songs play. I do get a good mixture of music and it's pretty random but in the 7 or so hours I listened to my iPod today at work, NONE of the new songs I added played at all.  I would guess at least one of the new songs would have played but none did.
I found the iPod manual online in PDF format and read the instructions for "reshuffling" the iPod, but I'm not sure that worked.   So, here are my questions:
When I add new music, must I manually "reshuffle" the songs manually or should that happen automatically?
When I "reshuffle" the songs, I follow these steps:  "To reshuffle songs, slide the three-way switch from shuffle (icon) to play in order (icon) and back to
shuffle again.  Must the iPod be playing music when I do this or does that matter?
I manually add the music to the iPod and don't automatically sync anything, nor do I have any playlists.
    Thanks in advance!
    Peace...

You may want to play the shuffle with the switch in the middle play-in-order position.  Then, when you play songs from the All Songs list, they play in alphabetical order.  That should make it easier to confirm that songs on the new batch does actually play (because the order is not random).
Also, there are only about 200 songs on there, so keep hitting Next until hear one of the new songs.  If you get back to the first song without hearing one of the new songs, something is wrong.
It should not matter when you do the reshuffle step, whether the iPod is playing or not.
Have you checked using iTunes, to confirm the new batch of songs is on the shuffle?  If the iTunes sidebar is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  The shuffle appears in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  Click the small triangle to the left of the shuffle's name, to drop down its content list (indented below the shuffle) Click on Music there.  The list of songs on the shuffle is shown to the right.  Are those 14 new songs on the list?

  • HT1351 Got a used 4th gen nano, but i need to sync it. i can see it but i cant figure out how to authorize it

Got a used 4th gen nano and I need to sync it with my library on my computer. I can see the ipod but i cant figure out how to authorize it

You don't need to "authorize" it, unless you are trying to sync content that uses DRM (copy protection).  You probably just need to set up syncing.
First, if the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  The iPod appears in the sidebar, under DEVICES, when connected.
Select the iPod in the sidebar.  The iPod's Summary screen is shown to the right.  Toward the top, there is a bar of buttons, starting with Summary.  Click on Music to the right of Summary.  This Music screen is where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music.  If your iTunes music library is small enough to fit on the iPop's storage, you can choose to sync Entire music library.  Otherwise, choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  From the lists below, select what you want to sync the iPod.  One convenient way to set this up is to create one or more playlists in your iTunes library, and put ALL of the songs you want on the iPod on those playlists.  (Or you can use existing playlists.)  Back on the iPod's Music screen, select (checkmark) those playlists under Playlists.  You can also select other items on those lists, as desired.
When you click Apply, iTunes syncs the songs in your selections to the iPod.  Going forward, to update the iPod, just update those playlists in your iTunes library (add/remove songs).  The iPod does not need to be connected.  The next time you connect the iPod (or click Sync if already connected), iTunes updates the iPod with the same changes automatically.

  • HT1373 why doesn't the mini ipad image appear in itunes when syncing

  • IPod nano (4th gen) not recognized by iTunes 11.1.3

I have an iPod nano (4th gen). After upgarding iTunes to v 11.1.3 (MacBook Pro) I get the follwoing message:
iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod.
Unfortunately, I restored to factory settings, which erased everything, but each time I connect the iPod I get the same message.
It must be an issue with compatibility because I get the same message with my wife's iPod (same gen), but hers syncs just fine on her iTunes (v 10), and I get the same message using two different USB cables.
So now my iPod is essentially empty (factory settings) and as good as a paperweight unless there is a way to get iTunes to recognize and sync. If I could get past the error message, I suspect it would be easy to sync automatically or manually.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi JMfromMN,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  If your iPod isn't recognized by your computer, this article may help:
iPod not recognized in My Computer and in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369
Since your wife's iPod displays the same behavior omn your computer, it sounds like the troubleshooting for the iPod itself (which you've largely already done anyway) can be skipped.

  • My ipod touch 4th gen stops shuffling at song 12 repeat and shuffle bars are blue - what could be wrong

my ipod touch 4th gen stops shuffling at song 12, and the music stops all together, does not go to next song - I am playing my ipod on my Bose system  -  the repeat and shuffle bars remain blue - it only occurs on this particular playlist -Note:  I created this playlist on my ipad - the first ipad out - with icloud it is on my ipod as well -  I am totally baffled - and have checked settings, etc - do you think i need to connect to computer to sync?  Please help

While playing any song on your iPod, tap the artwork to bring up the scrubber bar and additional controls. On the left hand side is a option for repeat. You want to make sure this icon is white (meaning it is set to Off). If it isn't tap it either one or two times to change its current setting.
    Any luck there?
