4th gen ipod stopped working

I have a 4th gen ipod that stopped working. I had it playing in the car on a charger, after making a stop it wouldn't work again. It did flicker for a few minutes, but no sound. It won't charge and the computer won't recognize it and it won't reset. So how do I determine if it is the battery or the logic board?

Need some additional info to help.
When you connect it to your Mac, does it show the iPod icon on the desktop?
What does it show on the iPod screen when you connect to the Mac?
if it shows the "Don't disconnected" screen, then it is your battery is dead. leave it charging for about 4 hours and Reset the iPod, to see if iTunes sense it, while still connected.
If you Ipod works after charging 4 hours, then your car docking system charger is kaput!
or else time to replace the iPod battery.
Good luck!

  • 4th Gen iPod not working with older ipod speaker docks

Has anyone else had issues when docking a 4th gen ipod to portible speakers or an adapter that works fine with 3rd gen ipods? I've had 2 different things happen... with an alarm clock w/ ipod jack, the ipod will play, but it won't charge. With a travel speaker set for ipod that I use, the ipod won't play or charge. The same thing happens in my car which has a jack for an ipod.. my 3rd gen will play and charge, but my 4th gen will only play.
Any help out there to resolve this?

This might help with the charging problem:

  • 4th Gen iPod only works with usb - freezes with firewire

After a recent iTunes upgrade my my 40 gig Gen 4 iPod started locking up and freezing my G4 and G5 when using firewire to transfer files until I unplugged the iPod.
I found several threads from people with similar problems and tried all the suggestions (with the exception of "dropping" the iPod.)
After a week of troubleshooting, I'm finally successfully transferring files using USB 1 - it also freezes with USB 2.
This is the troubleshooting process I went through to arrive at the above conclusion:
    First did the 5Rs.
    Deleted and reinstalled iTunes
Followed Mitch's suggestion for using Disk Tools to reformat the iPod (successfully)
Ran some of the internal iPode diagnostic test and they indicate no problem with the drive or USB or firewire.
Ruled out iTunes as the problem because I was having the same problem when I closed iTunes and just copied files directly from the desktop to the iPod. When doing the transfers in the Finder, the Finder would freeze/lock up and I'd have to reboot.
Rules out the computer because the same thing happened with both G4 & G5.
Ruled out something in the user profile because the same thing happened when using my wife's account.
Ruled out the firewire cables because the same thing happened with two different firewire cables.
I've seen several posts from people with similar problems but no solutions. Has anyone cracked this nut? It takes FOREVER to update 40 gig with USB

  • 5th Gen ipod stopped working , connected to Alpine CDA117

Out of nowhere the ipod stopped working when hooked directly to the Alpine CDA117.
It worked this morning when I pulled out of the driveway and drove to my shop . I did not unplug it when I arrived, it stayed in the car hooked up as it does often.
When I got back in the car about 2 hours later it was not working . It recognizes the ipod , shows the song , playlist etc but no volume and it's not "playing" so it's sort of on "pause", but not showing that it really is "paused"
Apple looked at it , thought there might be some dust on the contacts , cleaned it , tried it in the store and it worked fine both with earbuds and through speakers.
It works in my wife's car via the same hookup.
My wife's ipod works in my car hooked up just as mine would be .
The guy at Best Buy who hooked it up , hooked his up and his worked fine.
Firmware is up to date .
I literally did nothing to it once I arrived and my shop and then got back in the car 2 hours later.
    Help me !
I have a 3 hour ride up to the Berkshires on Saturday and will go bonkers without my music .

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPad 4th gen Wifi stopped working

We upgraded to iOS 6.1.3 last week.  Everything was working ok after the upgrade.  I just got a new Verizon Jetpack hotspot and was trying to connect my iPad to it.  It kept saying "incorrect passoword" everytime I trying to connect.  I can connect to the jetpack with my cell phone (Motorola Electrify M) my laptop and my iPod touch 4th gen.  I was reading online that if you were having trouble connecting with the iPad to try a network reset.  I did that and now I still can't connect to the jetpack, but I can't connect to my home network anymore.  Everytime I try to connect to my home router it says "incorrect password".  I have had issues before with my iPad not connecting to a Wifi at a hotel when my friends iPad 2nd gen would connect without any problems.  Mine just kept saying "incorrect password" when we were entering the same password and his would connect.  I turned on my "guest" access to my home router and my iPad will connect to that without any issues.  But as soon as I try to connect to my secure network it says "wrong password"  I am using WPA2 but have tried all the other encriptions in the router.  It will not connect when the security mode is anything but off.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I have searched for hours and nothing has seemed to work.  I read about when you connect to wifi your iPad needs to connect to apples web site and get a "success" reply but I can't get it to work.
    Thanks,

  • 2nd Gen Ipod Stopped Working For No Reason :/!

Basically, i've had my ipod for about 2-3 years and today it suddenly stopped working. By this i mean, its off and i can't turn it back on!
I can see a small light on the top right corner of the screen but that is all.
Also you know where u put the charger in? at the bottom of the ipod? that smells a tiny bit of burnt!
I dont know whats happened, i haven't dropped it or slipped water all over it! Please Help! i got this given as a gift so i dont know if there is any warranty!

    Try here:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
If not successful, yu probably have a hardare problem.  Maybe a dead battery.  I would make an appointment at the Gnius Bar of an Apple store.  It is free except for your time.

  • The sleep and home button on my iPod touch 4th gen have stopped working.

Its been past a year since ive had it but i bought warranty from walmart and I was wondering if walmart would fix it? or should i go to the apple store and ask them?

If you have a Walmart warranty and did not purhase the extended AppleCare warranty fvia Walmart, then go back to Walmart.
If AppleCare, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
    - If out of warranty, yu can also go to the Apple store. It is free for Apple to look at it.
Have you tried restoring your iPod? Maybe you just have a software problem?

  • 4th gen iPod touch worked fine yesterday, this morning will not power on

I've always used my iPod for almost everything, contact, notes memos, calender planning, videos and internet stuff. I have a special cord I connect to the wide screen tv and can play videos and any movies directly from the internet. A video system for the car to play from my iPod for the kids. In other words it's a very important device for me. It worked fine last night as always. This morning I went to use it I got nothing, no apple icon or anything. I tought maybe I left it on, so I connected it to power. 20 minutes later, no signs of life. I removed the protective rubber case I keep it in to prevent accidental breakage and noticed beads of moisture inside the case. Could this be related some how? I'm hoping this is something I can at home. I really can't afford to be without this too long,
(important contacts and job related notes and such). Please help, Thanks.

You may end up erasing the iPod. Just restore from backup if that is the case

  • 4th Gen. iTouch stopped working after iOS 6 update.

This morning I tried to update to the iOS 6 software, during the update my iPod froze and shut off. When I tried to turn it back on it flashed different colored screens then turned off/would display Apple logo then flash white. I tried restoring it and everytime I get the 3194 error. I've tried all the listed suggestions, I don't know why my iPod is crashing.

  • The internal speaker stopped working in my 4th gen ipod touch, what could be wrong with it?

the internal speaker in my 4th gen touch stop working, i can plug the headphones in and it still plays sound through them, when i unplug the headphones it wont play sounds outloud how would i fix it?

Try the sandard fixes to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup[
    - Restore to factoy defaults/new iPod
If still a problem you very likelu have a hardware problem.  Likely a problem with the headphone jack. An appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store would be a good idea.

In more specific terms. The apps that came on the iPod like the weather and maps and whatnot have been working flawlessly. It's just when I download an app and then disconnect from wifi it's almost like I'm on a timer until the app stops working. It acts like it wants to open, the screen flashes black then resets to the home pages. I've tried all of the basic fixes, rebooting, reseting, uninstalling then reinstalling. But like in my...long...question, the reinstalling option only seems to be a temporary fix. I just recently downloaded the 5.1.1 udate (I think that's what it was) does that have anything to do with it, or am I just derpy when it comes to iPods?
