4th gen iPod Touch. Stuck in Recovery Mode

Stuck in recovery mode no error message. No red on / off bar. iTunes up to date. tried different USB socket and different PC. Antivirus not the problem. Windows 7 at current updates. Am getting message "update service is not available at this time. Try again later" - tried for three days, same problem.
Problem occured after updating iPod OS after not updating for some time.  No errors happened during update PC and iPod not disturbed. Message came up that the update failed at the end of the update (I didn't see that message).
iPod is either off or in recovery mode - nothing else possible even when pressing on/off switch and home button at same time.
Just a eighteen months old - is that it?  Dead?
Can anyone help please?

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Please help, I'm extremely frustrated.  ipod is stuck in recovery mode.  Connected to different computer to restore and after 75 minutes of downloading get a message that there was a Problem downloading, network connection timed out.  Cannot get past "connect to itunes" on ipod.

Disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall during the download and update usually resolves that error.

  • 3rd Gen Ipod touch stuck in recovery mode....please help!

I just wanted to add some music for a birthday party and this has become a total failure. worked fine yesterday...so i plud it into my laptop and it asks to update itunes, for the sake of being in a hurry i skipped that, and came back and all of a sudden the wierd recovery mode picture was up and the "needs to be restored" message came up. Well, that *****, so im thinking ok...restore it and just start over....no dice. Tried several times at home to restore, and everytime it failed to restore. Updated iTunes, etc....still nothing. Now im at work and i downloaded a fresh new copy of itunes and dont even have an option to restore it. Says i have no network connectivity, so i have 0 options to touch the ipod settings.
I've tried holding the buttons down until the Apple icon comes back up and it just cycles right back into recovery mode.

I was looking for a way to get around that, as it sounds plausible. But i have had iTunes on a previous machine here at the office and it worked fine. Right now, the only option i have in iTunes with it connected is to "eject" the ipod. Not neccesarrily an error # message, but one does come up that says "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. Make sure your network connection is active and try again"
as for restoring at home, it just goes through the motion on the progress bar, but when it reaches around 100% it says "failed to restore. ___" i cant remember the rest as i was up til 2am, and back awake at 6am trying to figure this out...
Last night, there was no battery icon, and the screen stayed illuminated in recovery mode...i updated iTunes, and restarted my laptop at home, and now this morning the screen times out and dims, and there is all of a sudden a battery charging icon in the upper right corner. It would not "power down" at all last night...there was no "power off" slide option after holding the button(s)....this morning it will power off.
It also wouldnt connect to my car radio this morning like it would last night when i came home. The radio doesnt even recognize it anymore.
here is a quick screenshot of what i see...nothing...with it plugged up...

  • Save pictures from 5th Gen iPod Touch stuck in Recovery Mode

My iPod Touch has never had any issues until the other day when the battery died and when I recharged it, the screen shows the connect to itunes graphic.  If I connect it to my MBP, I get the message "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode.  You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes".
I have several hundred pictures on here that were never backed up to my MBP or iCloud, so I'll lose all of them if I restore.  I tried to force it out of recovery mode with various patterns of holding down the power and home button without any luck.  I've also downloaded RecBoot and using that to force it out of recovery mode doesn't work either.
Are there any ways to either 1) get it out of recovery mode and working like normal without doing a hard restore or 2) rip all my unsaved pictures off it and then do a hard restore?
    Thanks!

    1) No
    2) No
They are gone.  You should be importing them to your computer regularly as you would wiht any digital camera

  • Ipod touch stuck in recovery mode and will not restore. error code 3194

ipod touch stuck in recovery mode, will not restore and comes up with error code 3194, itunes is up to date, please help

Hi @rchangel - Thanks for the ideas...
Yes - it won't let you install the 32 bit version on a 64 bit machine.
I've had a cursory look at the SP1 release notes, and couldn't spot anything vital - what critical stuff do you know of in SP1?
I don't want to have to go through all the pain of setting up VM's, reinstalling iTunes, getting all my album art back in etc. (though I could, as I do have Win7 pro). I've also heard that running iTunes in Windows 7 compatibility mode might help. Can anyone confirm whether that actually works?
I think it's in Apple's gift to fix this issue, given that they say that they support Windows 7. So far I've had no feedback from a mail I sent to Apple, and the number of users reporting this problem keeps going up and up.
I want Apple to recognise that there is a problem, and then I want them to fix it.

The best way to get out of this situation is to use a well-known tool called TinyUmbrella.
First of all download TinyUmbrella  http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.in/
Now, making sure your device is connected to your computer, launch TinyUmbrella
It will automatically detect that your iPod is stuck in recovery mode
Select the Exit Recovery button and it should throw your iPod touch out of recovery.
Alternatively, you can right-click on your iPod name from a list at the side
of TinyUmbrella and select Kick out of recovery.

  • IPod Touch stuck in recovery mode and not detected in iTunes

I was trying to update my iPod Touch (currently 3.1.3), so I downloaded the 4.3.3 firmware (I didn't want to download the 4.3.5) and connected my iPod to my computer, opened iTunes and hit Shift+Restore. Then, I chose the 4.3.3 firmware and proceeded with the restore.
    However, the following appears:
    Error 1602
I pressed OK and the restore process stopped. But, my iPod is stuck in recovery mode. Every time I reboot it, the recovery mode shows up. It's also not detected in iTunes although my computer recognize it as iPod Touch Recovery Mode.
Please help me solve this. I can't use my iPod.

Error 1602: Try the following steps to resolve this error:
Ensure proper USB isolation troubleshooting has been performed, and test with a known-good cable.
Follow the steps listed for Error 1604.

  • New iPod Touch stuck in recovery mode during initial setup

I am trying to set-up my daughter's new iPod touch 5th Gen. When you try to connect to iTunes message says "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes". Even when you disconnect from computer it is stuck on screen telling you to connect USB to computer.  Two of her friends also got this iPod for Christmas and are having the same problem...during initial set-up. I've tried the system updates 3 times. iTunes recognizes the device, but the computer is not recognizing it as a drive. I've tried both my Mac and my Windows PC.  I've tried hard resets.  You can't remap the drive because the device doesn't show up. Most of the apple support topics address if iTunes doesn't recognize the device in conjunction with it not being recognized by the drive.  Obviously a problem with the new update because several brand new iPod touches wouldn't be having the same problem. Please help if you've found a solution. Happy New Years!

  • IPod Touch stuck in recovery mode, error message 1611 when trying to restore.

I bought a 2nd generation ipod touch from someone on CL and it appeared to me that it just needed to be plugged into the computer and be synced with itunes. But its stuck in recovery mode. When I plug it into my computer, itunes says it sees the ipod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored. Sout t I click on restore and it tries to restore it, but then it stops in the process and gives me error message 1611. I looked up this error message and it has to do with system security. I messed with my security settings and I still get this message. I tried using my home computer instead of my laptop and it still gave me the same message. Ive also tried holding down the power and home button for several seconds and it still goes back to recovery and gives me the same error message when I try to restore it. Also, itunes recognizes my ipod, but my computer does not.. Can anyone help me? Do I just have to bring the ipod into an apple store and have them figure it out? Thanks in advance!
