4th Gen iPod troubles once again

I've had this iPod replaced twice, but this time I'm out of warranty. I've tried doing the restore, but it doesn't connect and all I see on the screen is the charge logo that is frozen. I've heard there are alot of problems with the 4th Gen, personally I think Apple should do a recall when they knowingly have a shoddy product. I mean car companies do recalls all of the time because they realize their custumors spend alot of money on their products and they only want their money's worth. The last time I got my harddrive replaced the guy said I could either pay $250 for a new iPod or wait a week for them to replace my hard drive and not pay any money. This is ridiculous I paid $300 dollars of my hard earned money and all I get is a cat in the bag.

Apple created the stupid AAC file format to annoy Windows users.
Change your settings in Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Importing ~ to "Import Using 'MP3 Encoder'" - not AAC. If you wanna send music to a friend over AIM/MSN/Yahoo or whatever and they dont have iTunes, it's annoying, MP3 is more globally accepted.
So your iPod works with your computer, but not with the iTunes.
Things to try:
1) Re-install iTunes
2) Reset iPod
Good luck and reply back soon!

  • HT1386 why my 4th gen iPod touch syncs the movies again?

After iOS6 update, why my 4th gen iPod touch syncs the movies again? It used to sync with iTunes just the new one I marked. Now it seems to syncs the whole set of movies I have. Why?

When you connect the i-touch to your computer do you notice the "Other" portion of the space on your itouch may be over .5gb?
The average space for the "Other" portion is roughly less then .5 GB ... Its the yellow bar in i-tunes when your i-touch is connected ... I had the same issue where the "Other" portion of my i-touch 4 was reading like 5.5 GB, I did some research and found that that space is actually not free space at all, its actually full of left over files and such.
The way to decrease the size is to back up what you have, and restore it.  then reinstall all the apps and music and videos.  You will notice all that yellow bar is almost gone, and you will have a lot more space!

  • 4th gen ipod usb troubles

ok, so i bought a 20GB 4th gen. iPod off ebay and i can't get it to work with my computer. I have a Gateway laptop with roothub usb. My computer will detect the iPod, but not my iTunes. And it has trouble charging. I think it is a compatability with my computer so now what can i do? I don't really want to have to upgrade my computer just for my iPod, but as far as I know the iPod is the only device that will play the AAC iTunes files.

  • I have a 4th gen Ipod Nano. It powers up when plugged in to PC but does nothing once i unplug it. Any ideas?

I have a 4th Gen Ipod Nano. It connects to itunes and everything fine when pluggein in to usb, but as soon as i unplug it, it just goes black and does nothing at all.  Tried reset, restore, nothing seems to work. I am thinking maybe the battery is gone but not sure how to tell. Any ideas or help?  Thank you....

Ok think I have it. Seems that it doesn't really like my pc or Win7 or something, but rebooted, resync and all seems well. Charging as it should. Maybe just OS or something.

  • 4th gen ipod, need help on what has gone wrong...

i have a 4th gen ipod, bought less than a year ago still under warranty. the ipod service site for some reason is having trouble with my billing address for the shipping charges. when i type in my billing address (which is the same as my shipping address), it says "more than one jurisdiction possible (0,0)).
    ANYWAY
the problem with my ipod is that, a couple weeks ago, the ipod seemed to not be holding that great of a charge, but no big deal. than it reset itself a couple of times within short periods of usage. then, the ipod will not work without a power source, or when its plugged into an outlet. only when plugged into a usb port. i get the ipod update software, install it, then it tells me to plug the ipod into a wall outlet.
NOW, it cannot be recognized by the computer, no charge, and when i press a button to "wake" it, it just shows me a screen with a picture of a wall outlet. i left it plugged into the outlet all weekend. NOTHING.
oh, and when it would only charge with the usb port, every once in a while the computer would have a pop up that says "the usb hardware you have just plugged in has malfunctioned".
since i am having trouble with the ipod service, suggestions? this sound like a dead battery? if it is, i might take a chance and install it myself so i dont have to wait so long for it to be serviced.
thanks and p.s. i dont proofread my posts (habit)

Get a new battery put in it.

Have a Macbook Pro and a 4th gen iPod Touch. Downloaded and install iOS 4.3.2 yesterday. Upgrade went without a hitch, but now iTunes on My Macbook Pro will not open. I get an error that says --The file "iTunes Library" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes--. • My 4th gen Ipod touch won't power up but is recognized by itunes and is in recovery mode! What can I do/

I can't get my 4th gen ipod touch to turn on but itunes see's it and is in recovery mode. I can hear the beep beep when I plug it in to the usb port. I have also charged it for 3 hrs so far but won't fire up. I tried the customery hold the home and power button routine but don't know what else to do. I tried recovery mode but the itunes say's"waiting for the ipod" and I guess cause it's not on it won't recover. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance to all who reply!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • How do I get my 4th gen iPod to synch more than a handful of songs?

I have a 4th gen iPod clickwheel (20GB). At one point I was able to synch most of my music library onto the device. Now every time I try to synch, it will take about a third of my songs and then the battery runs out and I get the message that the iPod cannot be synched. When I charge up the iPod again, I have a total of about 10 sings on it. What's causing this? How do I fix it?

You could get a cable such as this one.
    http://www.cablestogo.com/product.asp?cat_id=1526&sku=35502
It has the dock connector on one end fro connection to the iPod and then two connectors on the other end, one for connecting to the firewire charger you use and the other to connect to the usb port on your computer to sync the iPod. You can sync and charge at the same time.
Alternatively, you could explore the possibility of installing a high speed card to your computer such as this one.
    http://www.coolcomputertoys.com/usbpcihost/
I'm not saying that is the one you need (I know nothing at all about your particular computer), I'm just using this as an example of what I mean.

  • My 4th gen ipod touch will not work in a philips or Sony docking station

I bought a philips(DC320) clock radio and my ipod touch would not work in it.  Thinking it was a problem with the connector on the radio I returned it and bought a Sony ICF-CS15ip because the store was out of the philips radio.  When I plugged my 4th gen ipod touch into that again my Ipod touch would not play through the radio but the radio would recognize and charge the ipod.  I tried my daughter's 2nd gen ipod touch in the Sony and it worked great.  So It looks like there is a problem with the my ipod.  Sony claims that the ICF-CS15ip is compatible with the 4th gen ipod touch and I have the latest IOS 5.1.1 on my ipod.  Any suggestions before I go to the Apple store?  The Ipod is only 6 months old.

You can try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPOd.
That has worked for some users.
However, sometimes an iOS update will break compatibility. In that case yo have to wait for either Apple or the dock manufacturer to issue a firmware update.

4th gen ipod touch stuck on itunes plug in screen and don't have computer i setup with

    Hey 34grumpy4u,
Thanks for the question. I understand that your iPod touch is currently in recovery mode, and needs to be restored. You can restore your iPod with any computer, then transfer your information back to your iPod once you have access to your backup (whether it was made via iCloud or iTunes).

  • My 4th Gen Ipod touch will not get past the apple logo

My 4th Gen Ipod touch will not get past the apple logo (unless the battery is dead, Then it tell me to charge it).  Once it gave me the connect to itunes screen.  I clicked restore in itunes but the ipod went back to the apple logo before the update download finished. I tried calling apple but my over the phone technical support just expired. PLEASE HELP!

This can be a corrupted software/firmware on your iPod touch. If the recovery mode you did was not forced, then try to force it into recovery mode. This is how:
    1. Force it to shut down (note: this sort of shut down should not be preformed unless you are in a situation like this because it is a hardware shutdown and will not attempt to unload software, save unsaved files, safely stop system processes, etc.) to do this, hold down the power/sleep button and home button for about 7 or 10 secs. Also I might be incorrect but I heard that you can just hold down the sleep and home button until the screen goes blank and then immediately let go.
    2. Have iTunes running. Hold down the home button and plug the USB cable that came with your iPod into it. Keep on holding on the home button until a picture of a USB cable going into the iTunes logo appears. You are now in a forced recovery mode. (In case your not so tech-savvy forced recovery is the same as a normal recovery mode that an iPod might do if it knows an update or restore failed.)
    3. iTunes should have shown a pop-up message about it found a iPod in recovery mode. Click OK, click your iPod from the sidebar and click restore. The iPod will show the apple logo for a while and iTunes will say "preparing iPod for restore" and then "waiting for iPod" this was the longest part of updates for me.
    4. iPod will reboot when restore is completed. When I update my iPod it one time showed the apple logo for one whole sync until it showed the slide to unlock screen, so do not worry. P.S if that does not work do a DFU mode restore ( I've been told DFU mode stands for device firmware update mode) I'm running out of room, so google it. Hope this helped ;)

  • 4th gen iPod not recognized by iTunes

After installing the new iTunes 7 on my laptop, my 4th gen iPod is no longer coming up on the iTunes screen when I connect it. I tried everything suggested in the FAQ - reset it, reinstalled iTunes, disabled antivirus, etc. The only thing I didn't do was restore it because I can't when it isn't recognized. When I reinstalled off my original CD, the iPod was being recognized so it's definitely not the iPod or the USB port. Once I updated to iTunes 7, it stops working. Can anybody help?

Hey, yeah, I am having the same problem, but when I try to download an older version of iTunes, it won't let me because I still have iTunes 7.0, even though I have put it in the trash and emptied the trash, how did you get rid of it?

  • My 4th gen Ipod Touch won't turn on/charge?

I have the 4th Gen Ipod touch. I was using it after it had been saying 20% battery remaining for awhile. I locked the screen, then I tryed to press the power button again to unlock it but it wouldn't work. I automatically assumed it had died completely so I tried plugging it in to charge. Even after letting it sit for a while it will not charge or turn on. I tried plugging it into a computer to charge as well, but my computer still wouldn't pick up on it. I tried the usual "hold down power button and home button at the same time for a few seconds" thing, but that was useless because my home button barely works. I cannot plug the ipod into a computer to restore it anyway, because my stuff isn't backed up and I am on iOS 4.something (as the original computer i had my iTunes on stopped working, so I havent been able to update it) so I will lose all my photos and music (I didn't purchase all my music from the itunes store). Does anybody have any suggestions? I tried calling Apple but Im out of warranty so they wouldn't help me, and theres only one Apple store in my state (and its nearly 4 hours away) so I'm basically screwed, right?
