4th Generation I Pod Touch Freezes Up

My ipod stopped working months ago, so I put it away; last night I charged it and this morning the ipod worked like nothing had happened, I went to change the time and date and the device froze again.  Any suggestions?

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

The 2G can only go as high as iOS 4.2.1. To find apps for the 2G
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
    Vintapps 3.1.3 - paid app.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.
    To update to 4.2.1
The Settings>General>Software Update comes with iOS 5 and later.
Connect the iPod to your computer and update via iTunes as far as your iPod model allows
A 2G to 4.2.1. Requires iTunes version 10.X. If a Mac it requires OSX 10.5.8 or later.

I was on safari then i locked it . then i went back to it and pressed the unlock button and the screen flashed. Now it won't work. i have tried charging it but nothing is happenning. it won't even turn on. Surely it can not be the battery? i only got it at the end of february this year! what is wrong with it is it a virus?

Try here.  However, it may be a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

The 4G can not run IOS-7.  "6" is the highest that it can go.  You need the 5G for IOS-7.
However, that won't affect her ability to use iMessage and FaceTime.

  • Downloaded the 3.1 onto my 1st generation i pod touch, when turned on there is an apple with a bar half full under it. I have reset but can not bring up my home screen now. HELP ME!!!

I have a first generation I pod touch. I recently downloaded the 3.1 version to it. In the middle of the download, an apple with a bar appeared under it, the bar has been only half full for many hours now. I reset the Ipod, but still this appears, and can not get my Ipod to turn off or get to the home screen. I can only reset it to turn it off! HElp me please! Or should I truck it down to the MAC store downtown?

Try connecting it to your iTunes library in recovery mode and restoring it.  See this article for instructions on getting your iPod into recovery mode.

You should have an iOS4 firmware available in your computer. If you want to upgrade, simply hold the Shift button + click the upgrade button so you can choose what firmware you want your iPod to be upgraded. Choose the iOS4 firmware and that's it.

Connect your iPod touch to your computer and launch iTunes. You'll most likely be prompted to update to the latest version of iOS. If not, click the "update" button. For more information and full details, see the section titled "Update your device using iTunes" in this support article:

I have a second generation I Pod touch.  How do I know which games I can download from the Apple Store?

    Hello, Suzanne.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Unfortunately there isn't a list available at this time for applications that are specific for your iOS/Software version.  However, once you know which iOS/Software version you have installed, you can browser various applications and look for ones that meet your system requirements.  I have included a screenshot below on how to look for this information.

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
