4th generation Nano won't charge with stereo.

My 2nd generation just decided to die. I've had it integrated with my car stereo and it was working great until this morning when it just died. So, I decided to use the 4th generation that I had connect to my Bose system. To my surprise the Nano said that it wouldn't charge. This is a relatively new $2K+ stereo so I'm not happy with the Nano right now. Just for grins, I tried a friends 3rd generation Nano and it seems happy  to charge. Any ideas what has changed between these generations? Any (non-xrated) suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Leave it to charge for a few hours.  Then come back and reset it if necessary.
If nothing else, it's likely a sign of a dead battery that needs to be replaced.

I have a 4th generation Nano and it won't charge. Tried to charge it on the computer as well as a adapted stereo. Itunes does not recognise it either.
Worked fine up until today. How can I get it to work? My OS is windows. Nano has now lost all charge...Any info would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Yes, I've been using it for months. And I can charge other devices with it. (my iPhone) but something weird just happened..... I kept on pluging it in the iPod and sometimes it would start to chàrge then sometimes it won't charge. Charges every time with the iPhone though.

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Ipod classic 4th gen. Won't charge with USB but will with firewire

Please help. I keep my old ipod running through my car charger. This charger broke recently and I replaced. The new won't charge the ipod. I've plugged the ipod into the mac and pc, using different leads. Nothing. The apple logo pops up and then a wee battery with an exclamation appears and disappears.
If I plug it into mains using the charger which came with it it will charge (but it won't hold the charge, this I am used to, hence why it's always plugged into me car) BUT if I plug it in using a USB to ipod cable it won't work.
    Very confused.
    Can anyone help?

Looks like yor iPod battery need to be replaced

FYI, you should  charge the iPod Classic, for at least 2 hours, using a USB 2.0 port at the back of the Desktop, or if you are using a Mac the USB port on the body of the Mac and not those on the keyboard, (these dont have enough power to charge the battery, which need at least 450mA current)

  • IPod Nano won't charge with USB 2.0

I've had an iPod Nano for a few weeks now. When I first got it, I was able to charge it up over USB 2.0 with no problem. Now, the computer recognizes the iPod, and the iPod says it's charging, but it doesn't actually charge.
I can still charge it using the firewire power adaptor from my 20gig iPod. It seems like this only started happening after I started charging via the firewire adapter. Could the firewire adapter be causing problems?

I had to install a USB 2.0 PCI card in my G4 tower to use the nano. Shouldn't this provide enough power? I also tried hooking it up to a USB 2.0 hub with an external power supply, so that should provide enough power too, shouldn't it?

  • 4th generation Itouch won't sync with Itunes on my Windows 8 computer

Yes, the computer can recognize my device, though when I click "sync," it goes through the steps and on (Step 3 of 6) Determining apps to sync - the progress bar just stops. I could sync my music by unclicking "sync music" (deleting my itouch library) and then clicking "sync music." However, I can not sync my apps ... I've tried dragging and dropping and the app picture shows up, but it doesn't sync. Any help would be appreciated

  • Need help with accessories for new 4th Generation Nano-speakers, etc

I just purchased the new 16GB 4th generation nano and I want accessories to play with it but am concerned with compatibility and charing issues. I am new to this so my questions may not make sense!
    1. I am looking for speakers and the Logitech Anywhere Speakers have good reviews. Will I be able to play my Nano with these and charge it? If not, what ones will that are reasonably priced?
    2. What accessory can I use to play my nano in my car (older model) that will also charge it? Or are there no accessories for this as of yet.
    3. If I want to plug it into a stereo, I only need the mini/RCA cable converter, correct?
    4. To plug into the wall, I need the USB adapter-but do I need a dock as well?
Thank you and sorry for such simple questions! This is my first iPod! :-D

    2. If you have a cassette adaptor with the 3.5mm audio plug and want to also charge your iPod. You can plug it into a Griffin AutoPilot.
    http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/autopilot
For the car with no tape or aux you need an FM transmitter, if your in a city with a lot of stations you will get interferance (I was glad to dump mine when I got a new car). Most are 12 volt! The Griffin iTrip has 5 volt charge and works with the iPod Nano 4th Gen.
    http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/itripautopilot
Griffin seems to be one of the few companies that switched to 5 volt charging some time ago.
    3. A line out cable is something like this...
    http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-35507-Connector-Cable/dp/B000JG3WBY/ref=sr111?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1221776257&sr=1-11
Better then using the headphone jack to hook up to a stereo.
    4. For the dock a 3.5mm to RCA cable should be all you need to get line out to your stereo.

  • 4th generation nano -- which docking speakers DO charge??

    Hey, there --
I've read LOTS about how all the old technology does not match with the charging requirements of my daughter's 16 GB 4th generation nano (and experienced this, as well). Does anyone have a set of docking speakers that 1) has an AC adapter, and 2) DOES charge your 4th gen nano?
Also, I've seen several links to this Scosche adapter (http://www.scosche.com/products/sfID1/210/sfID2/318/productID/1695); has anyone actually used one? Does it work?

    To list just a few.
And the adapter works, but to be sure email them with the model number of the system you will be using it with and they will let you know if it is compatible.

  • My 4th Generation Nano skips songs and won't play some of them

So, over the past couple of days while I put my 4th Generation Nano on Shuffle mode, it will skip over some songs. Not a delayed reaction, but... say I skip one song. Then it'lll skip over a few, and when I hit the back arrow, it won't play it.
Also, as an example, I was listening to Alesana, then it suddenly switched to Disturbed, then skipped over it, and started to play Bullet For My Valentine. When I went to go click back to play Disturbed, it wouldn't play and skipped back to BFMV.
    Help?
And one more thing, my iPod has been also doing this weird thing where it will say it's playing one song, then be playing another. Such as... it will say it is playing Apology by Alesana, and really be playing Guarded by Disturbed.
Is there any possible way to fix this? I've tried restoring it on iTunes, and reseting my iPod multiple times. It's only 3 years old, I don't want to have to bury it this soon! D:

If that didn't work you should try downloading the Latest iPod Updater and then Restoring the iPod to factory settings.

  • My 4th generation nano is no longer associated with my account

I completed the trouble shooting steps suggested by Apple but my nano is still not an associated device under my iTunes account.  I have no idea how to fix this! Pls help!

??? A 4th generation nano doesn't get "associated" with your account. You load media onto it from an iTunes library. "Association" is for computers or IOS devices. "Authorization" is just for computers.

  • HT1435 my 3rd generation iPod nano won't charge

My 3rd generation iPod nano won't charge and when i connect it, it shows up charging then the screen goes black and wont work. Can i get it replaced for a new one? or a different one? What can i do?

    Try these steps listed below.
    1. Run “c:\WINDOWS\system32\devmgmt.msc” (i.e. *Device Manager*), and leave it open for now for later use
    2. Start up iTunes
    3. Next, connect your iPod.
    4. Go to your iPod Settings and select the “Enable disk use” option from under theSummary tab.
    5. A dialog box will pop up reminding you that you’ll need to manually eject. Go ahead and hit OK
    6. Hit Apply to save changes to the iPod
    7. Quickly switch to the Device Manager window and right-click on any item within the window and select “Scan for hardware changes”
    8. Finally, switch back to iTunes, and try re-syncing your iPod to see if it helped.
It might not also hurt to trash your iPod's Photo cache if it has one (i.e. you sync photos to the iPod).  See this article for information on where to find this folder on your Windows XP machine.
