5.0.2 Problem installing on iPhone
I have just installed 5.0.2 and when my iPhone is connected, it asks me to either set up a new iPhone or back up from my previous sync. I choose 'back up' and it goes through the process. As soon as it re-boots the phone it then identifies it again as requiring a back-up. I'm in a loop! I've done it 6 times! I don't want to set up a new iPhone as I lost a lot of stuff from the phone when I installed iTunes 5. Any suggestions Apple?
No, I haven't been on the Beta program. I definitely received a message that 5.0.2 was available. I downloaded it, and this took quite a while. I had to accept the Apple terms etc. It then said I need to re-start the computer, which is what I did. Now every time my iPhone is in wifi range iTunes comes up with this message asking to set up new iPhone or restore from back-up. When I click the icon for my phone in the left hand side of iTunes, the icon disappears. Then it re-appears shortly after with the same message! I have stuff on the phone that I can't back up on iTunes so I can restore the iPhone because I'm stuck in this loop.

After you have downloaded the update, attach your iPad to your computer, open iTunes and select your iPad in the devices list. Press & hold the Option/Alt key and click the Check for Update button. Browse to where you downloaded the update and Choose it. iTunes will handle the rest. -

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Mobile Device Support entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? -

I am having a problem installing IOS 7. 04 to IPad. I had no problem installing it on my iphone 5c. I have didn't have a problem with any of the other installs. I wonder if anyone else is having a problem.
Thank you very much for your quick response. It took two tries, but it worked, it through me a curve, it directed me to plug in to my computer and go to iTunes, so that is how I did it. I am not very iPad savvy, so for me , it was a challenge . It also brought the iPad back to original set up. Had to set up all apps again. Oh we'll, I appreciate your help. Thanks again.

I've never seen this. Try updating via iTunes on your computer. Plug it in and see if iTunes says it needs updating.

Also make sure that for any of your email accounts you set them up to fetch, not push. My tech person set them all to have the email servers push data to the phone. The new iphone4s antenna is extremely strong so it will continually try to access stuff that is pushed–***** a lot of battery life doing this. It makes it worse if you have exchange 2010 accounts. Something about changes made to exchange really suck battery life from devices that access such accounts.

From your subject line, you say you are using a G5. This is the last gen of Power PC processors, not intel. The SDK requires an Intel processor. -
Problems installing Xcode for building iPhone applications
Just got a mac mini today for building iphone applications. I'm new to macs.
Downloaded the iPhone SDK. Installed it. But I saw there are a lot of
packages. Do I need to install them all? I've installed the iPhone ones.
When I launch Xcode I get the 'Welcome to Xcode 3.1', which just looks like
a lot of tutorials. How do I run the Xcode application to build iPhone apps?

John.you just install XCode and it will install ALL packages, the packages that you see are to be installed one by one for expert users or users that want to have a the newest packages.

you just go to menu and click File > New Project > iPhone and choose the type of project for the iPhone that you want to use, WebApp, UIApp, etc ...
because you are new to the MAC world and probably never used Objective-C in your live, it is good to start somewhere first, buy a good book of the subject, start with the language (Objective-C) them learn about the framework (Cocoa Touch) and then read all about XCode.
In the meanwhile you can check several websites to start knowing what you going to be able to do one day, here are some examples:

remember that you will need to apply to the iPhone Developer Program in order to submit your SDK Apps to the Apple AppStore.
Updated: You can find several movies on YouTube on how to start building apps to the iPhone, but the most seams to do a bad job cause they are screen casting the entire desktop rather the area that we need, so text will be unreadable on such dimensions. -

Thank youWhat program did you use to fix the internal hard drive? What repairs did it report making? More crucially, if repairs were reported, did you re-run the utility until it reported no problems found? It's possible for one set of problems with a drive to mask others.
If you have about 5GB or so free space on the internal hard drive, you can use your OS X Install disc to perform an Archive and Install to recover from the failed Software Update. When the computer restarts, download and run the OS X Update Combo 10.4.11 (Universal). When the Mac restarts after that, run Software Update. During all this, make sure nothing interrupts or shuts down the Mac! Note that the first start after each of these updates will take significantly longer than subsequent starts, so be very patient.
How did you back up your internal drive to the external one? Did you just drag things over in the Finder, or did you use a utility such as SuperDuper! or CarbonCopyCloner? Does the external HD show up as a bootable volume in System Preferences > Startup Disk, or using Startup Manager? -

Hi, for a few months now I've been using my brother's old iPhone 3GS as an iPod, and I haven't jailbreaken it or anything of the sort, and I've installed every update since, and today I installed the newest update and since it has been in recovery mode and whenever I connect it to iTunes and try to restore (I backed up a few days ago) I am greeted with an iTunes message saying "error 3194" and I've tried everything mentioned in the specific update article for it except for the one pertaining to a .ipsw because when I go to advanced settings I am unable to find anything of the sort. And it'd be much appreciated if any of you could help! Also, I am using a windows computer, not a mac, and have never had problems with this iPhone until this new update.
It is usually given as a communication error between Apple, iTunes (your computer), iPhone. Somewhere they are not communicating, so the iOS you are trying to install cannot be approved by Apple. Trouble shooting steps include, making sure you have Current iTunes installed, make sure your Hosts file of computer is not blocking Apple. Try restoring on another computer.

I'm convinced that I need to do a clean install of Leopard (I did Archive and Install, but I haven't done a clean install since Panther, and I just want to start fresh).
How will this affect my iPhone? When I'm done with the clean install will my iPhone be recognized as activated, etc.? Will I be able to sync my settings (Mail accounts, Address Book, Calendar) back to my MacBook Pro from the iPhone (I will definitely backup my MBP first, and can restore these data files from the backup, just wondering if I could restore from the iPhone if I wanted).If you set up your admin account with the same user name and password as before, you should not have any problems with your iPhone syncing. Too bad the iPhone has no "disk mode" like the 'pods.

Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
