5.0 Aesthetic Value: U.G.L.Y.!!!

I want 4.9 back!!!
The 5.0 skin is boxy and completely space inefficient; the title bar is strangely flat and the display has been squished into this ugly rectangular thing. The programs skinning iTunes are unstable, or I would skin it already! I miss the curves of 4.9 already, and I've been using 5.0 for what, 30 seconds?
Does anyone still have a copy of iTunes 4.9?

I'd been trying to google myself a copy, but the links kept redirecting me to the new program.
I do actually appreciate the slightly smarter functions, but it's not worth the painful visuals - the old one blended with my desktop, the new one sticks out like a sore thumb... but enough on that.
Will have to find a way to back up those 10 GB of songs before I try anything though. Shall kill a few CD-Rs. Heh.

Meanwhile whether it's licensing, country regions of sale , or a server software glitch , who knows ,the wireless experiment must go on ! Even if it's repackaged the aesthetic value of that piece is worth repurchase !

I did not fail to keep a local copy. Fortunately, I have an iMac and I downloaded the movie when it was still in my purchased items list. I would imagine, however, that there are many people who only own an iPad/iPhone and/or an Apple TV and don't own a computer and therefore lost the ability to stream this item from iTunes. This, after all, was the promise of the "Post-PC world" that Apple was "ushering in" (and yes, I recognize that the person who said this at the 2011 WWDC keynote - the SVP of iOS Software - is no longer employed by Apple).
And I do understand that content creators can remove items from the store, or modify "something" in the original (perhaps that even applies to "modified" artwork) and require people to re-purchase the item. In fact, I hope it occurs more often with movies, and perhaps even TV shows and music and books (sorry, you have to re-purchase the book because we replaced the original with one containing a new forward). Maybe then people will see that they are not actually "purchasing" the items at all, and that the whole "iTunes in the Cloud" is, at best, nothing more than a marketing gimmick.

Why is the iPad so slippery?

I don't understand why apple keeps making it so hard to hold these things. I love everything else about my new ipad2 but it keeps slipping from my hands. I know you are going to say get a case or something, but why should I?

I have the same problem. The back is just so smooth, it's tough to hang on to.
Many times I'll lay in bed and try to prop the iPad up against a pillow.. It just slides off.
I picked up a cheap black rubber case at a local discount store for $3 that works perfectly.. Except that it pretty much ruins the aesthetic value.. The minimalist design lost in a sheath of rubber.
Didnt have this problem with the iPhone 3GS or my iPhone 4.. But then they're small enough I can cradle them in one hand.

As someone who belongs to many, many forums over the years, I've gone through a lot of forum software changes. Generally, the vocal majority raise heck about it, but eventually things settle down and people go about their regular forum use with little effort.
These new forums are so much "easier on the eyes" than the mind-numbing sea of text we currently have. Some like the new colors, some hate it. Some like avatars & signatures, and some don't. But the reason you come here is for the information, and this new software WILL make it easier to find what you're looking for.
Macworld.com switched to this very same software last year. They had an obscenely large user base, all of which voiced their opinions repeatedly, to the point where many simply stopped visiting until the switchover was complete. In general, those that don't like change tend to voice their opinions the loudest. The vast majority though, tend to keep quiet and roll with changes. Today, Macworld's forums are running just fine, offer a plethora of new features, and are more active than they ever were previously.
I have no heavy interest in what Adobe does with these forums because I rarely visit the current ones - mostly because I find them absolutely unreadable. But I'm also betting I'll be using them a whole lot more once this switchover is complete. In fact, I KNOW I will.
Rather than complaining about change in general, colors, icons, avatars, signatures, bloated code, or whatever silly reason some are coming up with, time would be better spent simply helping to find bugs with what is there. Once the bugs are worked out, Adobe will most likely start looking at "fine-tuning" the look & feel.

Ann, you may be correct. But if functionality is truly the most important feature of Adobe Forums, the WebX format falls dramatically short for my own applications:
WebX screws any code or script posted, generally making it unusable. For this reason, the Script and Expression areas of the After Effects forum are virtually non-existent. Users go to other places to discuss these features, because it's not practical to do so on the current forums.
A picture tells a thousand words. When new users come to the WebX forums and want to post a screen grab of their problem project, it's embarrassing to tell them they need to use an external image host to do so.
Video tells ten thousand words. The ability to easily embed YouTube and other online video content into a post is not just a great convenience, it's a way to teach, inform and demonstrate within the forum, rather than sending users somewhere else mid-discussion.
I share a number of your criticisms about the Jive Forums, but for me and the community which uses my frequented forums, the Jive system also offers features which are essential for productive use. As I suspect the new system, like the old, will evolve over time, I'm happy to embrace the positives of the change, and hope that any major problems can be resolved in time.

Modify appearance of JTextField

Hello all,
I am wondering if it is possible to modify only the appearance of a JTextField so that it looks like a JComboBox - I want the functionality of a text field with the look of a combo box. This is simply for aesthetic value. I have tried to find references on how to do this but have been unsuccessful so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You want to replace the list pop up of JComboBox with JDialog?That is correct.can't see a real benefit.

Speakers for the Creative Z

Are there any speaker systems designed specifically for the Creative Zen, meaning that there is a slot that it can be docked into like the Travel Sound for the Zen V? It would be ideal to have a system that it can dock into to minimize the mess of a line-in cable and help the aesthetic value but if there is no such system then I'll to go with that.

The way I do it when watching a DVD, is to change the audio output device.
On the bottom right of your screen in the taskbar *points* down there you should see a picture of a speaker. Right click on it, and select Playback devices. Highlight SPDIF and select "Set Default". All audio should get fired down the optical cable for your Z-5500s to decode. Enjoy.
If you're running analogue cables to the back of your speakers as well, don't forget to change it back to "Speakers" when you are done watching a DVD, otherwise it'll just output 2 channel audio to your Z5500s as the X-Fi doesn't support DDL.

Can't do that. ID can't find "other" attributes, only specified ones.
This one regularly bites me when authors don't use Superscript and Subscript, but make their text a few pts smaller and move it up/down a few points -- and I bet it's their (w|W)ord processor that does it!
"A" solution (as opposed to "the") is to mark all 'good' text with S&R with a color, then search for orginally-colored text.
.. Although, in your case, I think you can set all kerning to 0 and be done with it.

Dvt:gauge StatusMeter displaying negative value strangely

Hi,
I'm creating a number of dvt:gauge components to display some retrieved numeric values. My aesthetic preference is to use the STATUSMETER gauge type. The values to be displayed vary greatly in scale and may be positive or negative. As a result I'm letting Oracle determine the best Min and Max values for the gauge(s).
The problem is that when a negative value is displayed, the status bar is still shown starting from left to right. This looks quite odd to our users as we would expect the bar to start at 0 (zero) and move from right to left. Currently it looks as if the value starts at an arbitrary negative value and is moving towards zero...?!
I've tried configuring the Min and Max values myself with no joy. Are there some additional attributes that I'm missing that enable the Status Meter to be shown in a more sensible way? Thanks.
FYI. I'm using JDeveloper Studio Edition Version 11.1.2.1.0.

Add colors to the value area in a XY chart

Hi,
I want to present values in an XY Chart with Xcelsius Std 4.5. The chart is divided in 4 equal zones, so the values fall in one zone (red: critical, green: good, etc)
Does somebody know how can I add different colors to the area of the chart?
When I add colored rectangle with transparency: if it's in the "back" I dont see it, if it is in the "front" I see the symbols of the values quite bad because they are behind the transparency...
Any idea out there?

You are on the right track with the use of colored rectangles. You will need to open the XY Chart, open the Appearance tab, and uncheck the Show Background box in the Chart Area and uncheck the Show Fill box in the Plot Area. This will enable the colored rectangle(s) to be seen through the XY Chart. You may need to adjust other settings or add elements to achieve the desired aesthetic.

I want to export a photo with it's highest resolution p/in. What value should I use?

I have a photo that an author would like to publish in a book. I sent it at a resolution of 300 p/in. She would like it at the highest resolution possible. How do I find or determine that value? The photo was taken with a Nikon 7000.

The ppi setting is only a tag in the file metadata, it does not change the image in any way. It may be used by some printing applications to determine a default print size, but is generally ignored. The ppi box in the LR Export dialog will accept any number from 1 to 65,000, but what really determines resolution is the number of pixels in the image. If you are exporting all the original pixels from the camera less any lost to aesthetic or aspect ratio crops, that is the highest native resolution possible. Resolution can be artificially increased by using the Resize option in Export so that LR will create and add in new pixels - whether or not this causes visible artifacts is largely dependent on the amount of enlargement.
Since your author friend is probably also unaware of the irrelevance of the ppi tag, send her all your native pixels and set an impressively high number for the tag - like 65,000

Anyway, back on topic?I have succesfully installed the XP drivers into Vista Ultimate (after using Vista's newnifty "did it work" control panel options). Sound is working fine, but with some annoying quirks;?) I do not have the ability to enable my rear speakers via any Control Panels2) The Bass and Treble functions are faulty. Even touching these sliders results in the relevant adjustments being stuck on full3) With random installations, I seem to get an anomaly where all sound seems like it is being fed through an EAX filter (i.e echoing sounds, e.t.c)?Yes, I will get "well dur, not supported in Vista dur go hump a dead cat dur". OK I take that back?It *did* BSOD before completing driver installation (I'm guessing when it tried to initialise the soundcard). Now that Vista has rebooted, I seem to have legitimate selection of;?- Mono?- Stereo?- Quadraphonic?- 5. Surround?- 7. Surround?However it is not actually feeding all speakers. It is still only feeding the fronts and the sub. While this eases my aesthetic requirements it is still not the return of my beautiful 5. card capabilities! You just can't play F.E.A.R without 5. :P?It also gives me real Bass and Treble controls which is great! You can use request.getParameterNames() which will return an enumeration, then you can iterate through the enumeration and use request.getParameterValue(String paramName) method to get the values.

Error while assigning a character value to a numeric variable.

I fire a sql statement and check the number of rows returned by the sql.
I check this result with the application logs.
The application logs keeps the sqls fired by the application and the no of rows returned, in the example below the sql returned 8454 rows.
My script compares the two results.

Someone more of an SQL guru than I can probably tell you how to change your numeric locale to avoid presenting those commas in the first place and avoid the problem.

Issue in Creation of new Value Field in CO-PA

Hi,
I have a query in CO-PA Value Field Linking.
In my Development Client,
1. Created a New Value Field (No Transport Request Generated)
2. Linked to the above to new Conditon type created in SD. (Tranport request was generated) i.e. in Flow of Actual Values->Transfer of Billing Documents->Assign Value Fields
However then i try creating a new Value Field in my Production Client it throws a message 'You have no authorization to change Fields".
Is this an issue with authorization or i need to transport the Value field too from Development to Production client.
Please Advise.

i.e.
