I downloaded firefox 5.01...the icon did not open at all..I could not open firefox..after many tries from different locations on my laptop (pc windows vista). Then when I tried to click on the icon my screen became very low resolution. (large pixels)..so I have deleted firefox. I want to use firefox again can I download the older version???

Try disabling hardware acceleration.

If you hold down the option key while in dashboard you can close many of the programs.
To disable it from opening automatically, or unintentionally:
1) go to System preferences -> mission control.
2) Deselect any mouse shortcuts
3) Remove it from hot corners, if it is active.

I have been a happy user of Firefox for many years. Around last April first I opened Firefox and was offered an update to v 4.42.0.0 which I accepted. Installation seemingly went well. I forget now exactly what happened but the result has been that ever since April 1 I haven’t been able to open the Firefox browser when clicking on the Firefox icon. My computer now was running very slowly. I tried to uninstall Firefox, but a popup told me I couldn’t because Firefox was in use. This confused me because I couldn’t see it being used. Only now I have found that on Task Manager processes that “firefox.exe” was consuming 99 % of the CPU. After removing firefox.exe by clicking End Process my computer ran better. I uninstalled Firefox I had on my computer and installed Firefox 5.0. Unfortunately I have the same problems: Firefox does not open when clicking on the icon, the firefox.exe process consumes 99 % of the CPU and my computer runs slowly.

I was unable to start in safe mode initially. The second time I disabled all of the Add-Ons and she started up just fine. I enabled them one by one hoping to track down the culprit but the problem seems to have gone away.
BTW I am running ver. 3.6.8 (in response to cor-el's earlier post) and
Firefox is in the process of downloading 3.6.10 (which I am starting to think may have been what caused this whole problem to begin with)
Incidentally, whats up with all of the Java Console Add Ons?

Java Console 6.0.17, Java Console 6.0.20, and Java Console 6.0.21
What are they? Do I need them? Can I uninstall them? Is this due to using Open Office?
Also, .NET Framework 0.0.0 Should I uninstall it?

I am having the same problem. I have just tried this. Unplug iphone > open itunes > delete all music from itunes library > close itunes > re-open itunes > add music from original folder > plug in iphone > select songs > press sync > unplug iphone using eject button onscreen > checked phone .... still nothing in music folder on phone. On itunes the "On this iphone" tab the songs remain there but greyed out.

Something may have gone amiss in the upgrade to iOS 7 on your iPhone.
To correct this follow these steps:
1. Backup your iPhone using iTunes or iCloud.
2. Use iTunes to completely restore your iPhone as new.
3. Monitor performance to see if it is normal. If not, you may have a hardware problem - if so, contact Apple support.
4. Restore your iPhone from your backup above.
5. Check performance to confirm that it remains normal.

Startup Screen at very low resolution

When ever I turn on my macbook pro (late 2011) the start up screen with the white background and the apple logo is at a very low resolution and has black bars on eithier side of the screen. Then when it switches from that to the login screen the transition between the two screens is very pixelated. Then when it gets to the login screen everything is perfectly fine. How do I fix this? Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

Imac magenta screen & vertical lines / low rez screen

iMac 21.5, just 3 months old. running 10.6.3 we now see patchy magenta tinted screen and a low resolution version of the desktop. computer seems to function as normal, screenshots of course dont show the issue. screen seems to be 'half rez' vertically showing the 'scan lines' easily

Can not open my msn mail since I updated Firefox, get connection timed out error

Since we updated our Firefox to the last version I have not been able to open my email at msn/live.com We have 3 computers networked and it will not open on any of them. However, my husbands account [email protected] opens. I can open it on my home computer but not at our office and it is our office email. Can you help? I've cleared the cache through the tools/options/etc. It will not open on IE either.

You can check:

You can open the about:config page via the location bar and do a search for bing via the Filter at the top of that page.

Since loading the new version of Firefox it will not open. When I try to download Firefox 4 or older versions I get a messase that says I must close Firefox first. Everything else is closed!

A new version of Firefox downlaoded the other day and now Firefox will not open at all. I tried to redownload version 4 and an earlier version (3.6) but I get a message that says that "Firefox must be close first in order to continue". There was no other box open at that time. Hey, thanks for the info. Upon further reading into the help section, I realized that I had to uncheck spybot tea timer to get the downloads to save & open. Wish I had read that a couple of months back... Works fine now anywho, thank you for your response.

A second browser window will not open and then closing the 1st window firefox will restart. Taskmgr shows it still running, it will not restart until I end the process in taskmgr.

I open the browser and close it every thing is fine. I open the browser and then attempt to open a second browser window, it will not open. Now because I've attempted to open a second browser window firefox will not restart after closing the open window. Until I've shut it down in the taskmgr. This just started the other day and I have removed the only update I made that was "flash" and I removed the 64 bit version of firefox.

Win 7 with iTunes installed - I was also having problems with that.
"netsh winsock reset" at the command prompt resolved all issues and Firefox launched normally.
Check to see if Winsock is corrupted. May prevent FF from communicating with the web and consequently fails to launch properly - for my situation was not a firewall or antivirus block!

I too have had this problem a few times with several different versions of FF.
What you need to do is to open a window to Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) and on the 'Processes' tab look down the list for Firefox, highlight the entry, then click "End Process". Accept the warning that pops up. You should then be able to uninstall.
