5.1.2 Won't capture from DSR-11

I performed the software updates last night; should've checked the reviews on this one first. Today, FCP won't Capture Now from my DSR-11. The capture now screen comes up black with the apple logo. Underneath it says, "Waiting for timecode. Device must be in VTR mode when Device Control is enabled." I hit escape. The device is being controlled by FCP because I am able to rewind the tapes using the computer. As far as I can tell, the DSR-11 is in VTR mode. I tried switching the device control to firewire basic, but no change. I switched it to non-controllable device and that does work, but is a pain in the neck. Can I switch back to 5.1.1?

Here's what I did:
The tape was partially used. I rewound a bit and got a time code of 15:45:01. I used that as the out point and typed in 100 as the in point. I rewound the tape and logged the clip offline. I then tried to batch capture the clip and received the following error:
Batch Capture: Timecode Error: Unable to located specified timecode. You may have specified a timecode with insufficient room for a pre/post roll operaation.
What did I do wrong?
FYI, I did the quicktime fix suggested on another thread, which did nothing for me. What I did was trash old packages of QT from the library/receipts. Then I reinstalled QT.

  • Final Cut won't capture from the DVX100b? How do you remove 2323 pulldown?

I connected the DVX to Final Cut and loaded Log and Capture. When I click capture Now, the black final cut screen just hangs and it maintains saying "waiting for timecode ... must be in vtr mode" The camera is in VCR mode. I'm able to look through the tape from the Log and Capture screen but it just hangs when told to actually capture?
Also, I have footage in regular 24p mode, but I don't see an option to capture and remove 2323 pulldown, only 2332 which is only for 24pA?
    Thanks!

If you want to mix 24P and 60i in a timeline, DO NOT remove pulldown. 24P with a pulldown plays nicely with 60i. Straight 24fps won't go into a 60i timeline without smearing or adding a pulldown. 60i won't go into a 24fps timeline without mushing the frames together. Not pretty...

  • FCE 4.0 won't capture from my canon zr950

hello everyone, and thanks for your time. i'm not sure if this is an issue with FCE/my computer, my camera or the firewire cable. i've captured footage with this computer and firewire cable before, but not with this camera (borrowing it from a friend). here's my issue:
when i go to capture footage, i get the spinning pinwheel of death. i let it run for over 20 minutes, and the capture screen never surfaced. it was just stuck. so i restarted the computer, and this time i did file -> capture before the camera was connected, to bring up the capture screen. after i did this, i connected the camera, and the same thing happened. on the camera screen, it says DV in, so the camera recognizes the connection. the computer knows something is attached, because as soon as i connect it i get the aforementioned spinning pinwheel, and when i disconnect the computer is once again able to function. any thoughts on what i should do? thanks again for your time!

Have you got the correct Easy Setup ......... FCE may need a different one from that used by your other cameras?

  • Final Cut Express won't allow me to capture from my vdo camera

I just loaded Final Cut Express HD on my Mac because I wanted to upgrade from IMOVIE. My Powerbook G4 had no problem capturing video with my Sony HDV 1080i video camera. But I can't get Final Cut Express HD to locate my camera at all no matter what "easy setup" setting I choose. But if I turn on IMOVIE, the program can capture from my video camera no problem. I know the firewire cable is hooked to the computer correctly & the camera is on & in the VTR mode. If anyone can help me identify this problem, I'd really appreciate it because I'm trying to begin a new video project & can't if I can't capture video. Thanks for helping.

Fritz from Technical support told me about a glitch in Final Cut Pro & Express HD that happens when you upgrade to Quicktime 7. He told me to go to this article: Link: http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n301852
and follow the instructions & it would fix my problem. It didn't & then of course I called tech support back & it was after hours. I still can't capture from my video camera but it works in IMOVIE. I removed Final Cut Express HD from my computer (even all the files in library/users, etc.) and then reinstalled it. It still gives me the same error even though I have my camera plugged in & turned on. It says unable to locate capture device. This is unbelievable. Hopefully I can get some help. Brian

  • Problem Capturing from Sony HVR-A1U to FCP 5 using HDV preset

    Hi,
i just got a Sony HVR-A1U and am new to HDV. I am a professional editor so i have a full understanding of FCP. Here are my problems and questions.
Specs of system : Power Mac Dual 2Ghz G5, 1.5GB Ram, GeForce FX 5200 64mb (Do i need a better GFX card?)
    1) When i setup the project settings at the start I selected HDV 1080i/60, it automatically states "Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding Hardware card." I am quite sure that i have all the codecs i could have without having a hardware card, since i don't have a hardware card. Does this mean that i need a blackmagic HD card or a Kona card just to process the HD into FCP as HDV 1060i/60 even though it is through firewire?
    2) I advanced to the Log & Capture mode with the HDV settings, set properly across the board. I can not see picture, can hear audio and can log clips. When i capture it captures black for video but captures the audio just fine. I figure this is because of the missing codec which encodes HDV for FCP from Sony's HDV encoding?
    3) I can capture on the fly with the Apple Intermediate Codec, no Log and Capture screen comes up, just a dialogue box that asks me to name the clip. I understand what this codec is and find that i am stuck at the moment using this until I find a way to capture the other way. Is there anyway to have the Log and Capture screen launch using this codec?
    4) I can not have pre-logged clips using other methods and then batch capture them using the Apple Intermediate Codec, it just reverts to capturing on the fly. Anyway to Batch Capture using the Apple Intermediate Codec?
Funny thing is that i can digitize fine in iMovie HD although i don't know what codec it is using. This totally baffles me that it works in a certain manner, i can get the job done, but not the way i should be able to. I've been using FCP since '99 and have never encountered something in this manner. And since this is my first experience with FCP and HDV i have nowhere to go from here except get some help or settle for what i can do and change my normal post-production workflow.
A question i really want to know about is whether i need an extra hardware compnent, i know i asked that question above, and i could understand if i did. (i.e GFX card or Capture card - even though i am going through firewire)?
I appreciate any help, i might not respond over the next couple of weeks because i am shooting in Europe and will be back stateside at the start of February, so i will not be active on this post until then. Any input would be great and when i get back i will have loads of footage that i will need to digitize, so i will be very open to help with troubleshooting as well.
    Thanks again!!!

    PowerMac G5 DP 2Ghz, 1.5GB Ram, GeForce FX 5200, 20" Cinema Display   Mac OS X (10.4)

All the settings are proper, like i said, it captures with the apple codec for HDV but that is only good for on the fly. iMovie captures it fine, it's just when the settings in FCP are set for HDV it won't capture picture through log and capture.
Are you guys actually reading my post??? I have given all the information that i can, settings are proper, so the post so far are completely redundant.

  • IMovie HD won't import from Sony HDR-HC1

iMovie HD 5.0.2 (111) on my G5 desktop controls, but won't import from, my new little Sony HDR-HC1 1080i DV camcorder. Same was the case with my 12" 1 GHz PowerBook until, at the advice of a Manhattan Beach Genius Bar tech, I did an archive reinstall of 10.4 and a reinstall of iMovie HD on both my G5 PowerMac and G4 PowerBook and then downloaded all the updates. Now my PowerBook works, but my PowerMac still won't import. On an empty second HD in my PowerMac I installed OS 10.4 and iMovie HD ONLY (to create as sterile as possible of an environment), made the 2nd HD my startup drive, and still iMovie HD on my PowerMac will not import from this camera (although it will from an older Sony VX-1000 regular def camcorder).
Does anybody have any solutions, or any idea why iMovie HD now imports on my PowerBook but after the same makeover still won't on my PowerMac?
Per earlier posts, I tried playing some piano notes in Garage Band, trashing the iMovie preference files, and reinstalling QuickTime (the tech had heard QT 7.0.3 could be at fault from becoming corrupted in certain updating combinations), all to no avail.
    HELP!
    PowerMac G5 2 x 2.67 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I have had import/capture problems using FW drives with FCE/iMovie5 and my 2gig iMac. My canon GL2 works fine but only when no other FW devices are connected to the FW port I use the computers internal drive to capture. If your using the G5's internal SATA drives this (below) may not apply.

Some G5 users have had to purchase a FW PCI card or have the G5 front FW port replaced. Check this link.

  • FCP runs on Intel Mac Mini, but won't capture to external drive, HELP!!

Installed FCP 5.1 on Mac Mini Core Duo and it runs fine. It will capture fine too, but only to the main harddrive. If I plug in a firewire harddrive using a firewire hub it won't capture, and give a "No Video" error in the Log and Capture window. I've used both popwered and unpowered firewire hubs, and even tried daisy chaining the camcorder off the harddrive. Nothing has worked. And there is no space on the main harddrive to capture to.
I know there is a lot of speculation about whether FCP would even run on a Mini, but it will. If only I could capture it would be a reat capturing station. Has anyone had success? Its pretty frustrating as I've used the Power PC Mac Mini for capturing in FCP 5.0 without any problems. Why would apple make the new Mini crapier?

Never use FW hubs when capturing video. They only lead to grief.
Some cameras, particularly Canons, refuse to share the FW bus with anything. Could this be your problem?
If so, there is little I can think of to do with a Mini (or an iMac for that matter) beyond capturing from a different deck/camera that is more social than the Canons and their brethren. You only get the one FW bus.
But first thing to try is to get rid of the hub. Hook your fw drive to the computer and your camera to the FW drive.

  • Question about capturing from FX1000

Hello everyone. This is my first post here tho I have been searching these forums for some time now.
I looked for my question but i could not find one that helped me.
    Anyway.
So I just got a HDR-FX1000 and I love it!
I just filmed my last show and when I plugged it into my television with the HDMI cable i was drooling.
so now I want to import the footage onto FCE but the problem is that It's looking like a normal ol' HD camera. The colors are not even as bright. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with my computer screen but I have a new Macbook pro so I doubt it.
I exported it onto quicktime and still the same. I am now dumping it onto iDVD and I'm going to see how that looks on my television.
Anyway is there some kind of settings I should be using when Capturing from my FX1000? and is there a good export setting to retain the same HDV quality?
Thank you very much in advanced. I appreciate any and all help!
also, if you are in the Los Angeles area and wanna do any shooting with my FX1000 let me know. I'll go if its not too far and won't charge you anything. I'd like the experience of using the camera
    Luie

I'm starting to wonder if it has anything to do with the Fire Wire I have. I had a bunch of Fire Wire cables around the house but I had to buy a new one because of the MacBook Pro. It's very thin too...
the HDMI cable is really thick. Anyone think this an be a part of the issue?

  • PP CS4 won't capture HDV or import m2t files

    MacbookPro, OSX 10.6.4
I haven't done a video project for a couple of months, and everything was working then.
But now, I can't import HDV footage captured by OnLocation (.m2t) ("format not supported"), or capture it directly from my video camera (Sony HVR-A1U). There are also no sequence presets for HDV video.
When I try capturing from the camera, my MacbookPro's webcam shows in the previewer, although the controls in the capture window do control the camera (play, stop, rewind etc.). If I go into the capture Settings, no firewire sources are shown.
I can capture HDV from the camera using iMovie (to Quicktime format). In some respects, that is better, since it does HDV scene detection (unlike PP CS4), saving me a little work. But iMovie won't import m2t either so I'll have to find some other way to convert if for use by PP.
I tried reinstalling PP from disks but to no effect. Before I try full unininstall and reinstall , I thought I'd check here to see if anyone has ideas about what is going on with PP.

    >no sequence presets for HDV
I don't know if this applys to Mac or not, but I have seen messages saying that PPro will, for some unknown reason, sometimes revert to demo status... which only supports SD video, and nothing that requires any flavor of MPEG

  • Can FCP7 Regen Time Code when capturing from tape to allow for TC Breaks?

Can FCP7 Regen Time Code when capturing from tape to allow for TC Breaks? Or does it start capturing with time code from the tape and then just keeps rolling regardless of TC breaks on the tape, thus not matching code after the first TC break?  I don't see any preferences where you can ask it to regenerate the code  it is writing based on the code it's receiving from the tape (i.e. continuous jam). I'm guessing it just keeps on going with the code it started with. Anyone know different?
    Thanks!

It is not clear from your post what you want FCP to do when it encounters the timecode break on the tape that it is ingesting.
    You have three choices:
If you choose "Make New Clip" then FCP will stop, roll the tape forward to legitimate code, and then attempt a pre-roll and start capturing again. The new clip will have timecode that corresponds to the timecode on the tape.
If you choose "Warn After Capture", FCP will keep ingesting and the timecode will continue contiguously from the source code of your starting clip, meaning it won't match the tape after the point of the break.

  • PD170 Won't Capture

Looks like I made a fatal mistake and bought a camera off of Ebay.
    Oh dear.
Not only does it have the audio humm problems early PD170's have, it won't capture in.
On the menu selection I notice the option is for A/V - DV OUT ON or OFF. It says nothing about DV IN.
    Do I have a PD170 with no DV-IN?
I can capture okay from the camera to Final Cut, but when I try to output - I get nothing. Just the standard blue screen on the PD170.
    What now?

Your subject line might get more traffic if you used the term record instead of capture. We generally use "capture" when going into the Macintosh.
You need to find a Sony forum. There are lots of 150/170 users here, true, but the wonk level is likely to be higher on a product-oriented forum--of which I know none.
Hope you get it fixed, hope it's a simple glitch.

  • Pixelated tape won't capture

I'm capturing a large project - about 40 tapes - and one of them is thoroughly pixelated and won't capture. It has bands of green and magenta along the left side and most of the tape has rippling pixels. The other tapes captured easily.
Clearly it's a problem with the tape. Does anyone have a thought on how to capture all or parts of a damaged tape?
    Thanks, SHC

If Johnny's suggestion doesn't work, you could also try playing it back through the camera into the deck, then bring in the signal from the deck. This might give you a technically clean video signal that FCP will accept, although you will still have the banding and pixelization. If you have a frame sync that would work even better, or any other piece of equipment that will act as a frame sync.
We are all assuming that this is critical footage you need for the project and can't be reshot so you are willing to compromise quality to keep this footage.

  • Pulling packet capture from IPS device

I work for a MSP (Managed Services Provider), we currently are evaluating CSM for mgt of 50 IPS/IDSM devices. To make analysis more effective, want to be able to pull the packet capture from the device. We have our own correlation engine, so we do not need MARS. We want to grab the packet and then put a copy into our ticketing system so the analyst has the data right in front of them.
Is the IP Log directory where the packet capture data is kept? Has anyone ever tried this before? What are the performance/health concerns with enabling packet captures for just high signatures? Does the IP log directory really "clean" itself out after a certain period of time?

There are 4 event actions that can be used to capture packets.
The produce-verbose-alert event action will encode the trigger packet as part of the alert itself. So with this event action the packet is already included in the alerts you are already pulling off the sensor. You just need to modify your tool to strip off this packet, decode it, and then add it to your ticketing system at the same time as you add the alert.
This is where I would start.
Using the produceVerboseAlert uses very little additional sensor resources. It has only a very small affect on sensor performance. Because each alert will be larger than normal it will reduce the total number of alerts that can be stored in the sensor's eventstore. But if your application is actively subscribing for these events, then the reduction in total number of alerts stored on the sensor should not cause you any issues. So adding this for all High alerts woulc be a good practice.
The other 3 event actions are log-attacker-packets, log-pair-packets, and log-victim-packets. These event actions will trigger an IP Log (packet log) to be created (or increase the time for capture on an existing IP Log.
The IP Log system is a collection of numbered files on the sensor. As event actions trigger new IP Logs to be created the sensor will pick one of those numbered files and begin writing packets to that file. The sensor retains an internal mapping of what packets are being written to each file. If no empty files exist, then the sensor will automatically overwrite the oldest IP Log file with the new IP Log file. Larger platforms have up to 512 of these numbered files, and smaller platforms may have as few as 128 or even 64 of these numbered files. Each file is 1 Megabyte in size and usually stored in RAM memory. With the limited number of files, the storage of these logs on the sensor is very short term. And so should be pulled off the sensor as soon as possible (just like what you are planning to implement). The sensor also has a usual limit of only writing 20 IP Log files at any one time.
With these limitations on the IP Log files they shoudl be used sparingly. Configuring too many signatures or signatures that trigger often with these event actions can lead to problems. The IP Logs could easily be overwritten by newer IP Logs being triggered, and/or more than 20 could be requested at any one time which means some alerts won't be able to have an IP Log created.
So IP Logging event actions should be limited to only those alerts where the additional data is manditory.
Also understand that IP Logging can have a negative impact on sensor performance. If you plan on using IP Logging often, then consider using a sensor rated for higher speeds than what you will be monitoring.

I record my band rehearsals using the voice memo on my iPhone 5s. Then I sync to iTunes and convert file to mp3. When i sync back to my iPhone it appears in my music. So far, so good. When I use the search function in music it finds the file but won't play from tapping. I must troll through all my music songs (currently 2227 of them) to find it and then play it. Is it something to do with it still being under the genre "voice memos" or what ?  Anybody help please.  Thanks
