AppleTV now supports 5.1 audio within Netflix with iOS 4.3

I don't really have an issue with not getting something they have in the US,
That would be fine so long as equivalent services were supported elsewhere - that's the problem - in a global market Apple cannot support every option in every country, though you'd think they'd at least make an effort to look at the big players like BBC iPlayer for UK to give their products some features that are becoming standard on the majority of TVs/BluRay players - maybe Apple are short of a few pennies so can't match Sony et al incorporating regional intrenet services on their media players.
it's when we get something of theirs that we just don't want in the first place and it pushes stuff we do want, further down the list.
Yep. More customisation required.
In fact this is one of the best arguments for regional plugins/apps for internet content.

• DVD software that supports adding 24 bit/96 kHz stereo PCM to video

Does anyone know which DVD authoring software supports adding stereo PCM 24 bit/96 kHz files created by say recording using the Audigy 2ZS ?Most DVD authoring/burning software I've seen only seems to recognize/support 48 kHz sampled PCM audio, but video DVDs support both 24 bit/96 kHz stereo (and of course Dolby AC3).

Here is a bit of info. that I have gathered about this:?Useful, readable and still fairly relevant summary on audio DVD-Video and DVD-Audio:?http://24bit.turtleside.com/?----- For audio DVD-Video with support for 24 bit / 96 kHz LPCM ------I have tried the shareware "Audio DVD Creator" and it works fairly well:?http://www.audio-dvd-creator.com/A DVD-Video disk created with 24/96 kHz audio tracks plays in my low-end Toshiba DVD player. It already has most of the other useful capability in the DVD-Video slide-show creation like synchronizing the added audio tracks to any images etc..

You can connect the audio from your iMac to your TV using a mini jack (like headphones plug) to rca (regular red and white audio connectors used on every TV,DVD, etc) cable.
On your TV, you need to be able to set the audio for the HDMI input you will use to "analog" and connect the rca end of the cable to the analog inputs on your TV.

Dave I'm glad to say that it works perfectly but I'm embarrassed to say that my 12 year old nephew hooked it up in about 10 minutes.
If you have the Kanex Mini DisplayPort cable it will work, what confused me was changing the display settings in System Preferences,
and dragging the mac screen from the mac onto the tv. Sorry I cant be more helpful but you have the right cable now you need a 12 year old nephew.
Good luck Derek

• How can I play music on my macbook pro (OSX Lion) through a Pioneer receiver. I've connected them with a mini display port to HDMI cable with audio support bought at the Apple Store, but there's no sound coming through. thanks

How can I play music on my macbook pro (OSX Lion) through a Pioneer receiver? I've connected them with a mini display port to HDMI cable with audio support bought at the Apple Store, but there's no sound coming through. There are 4 HDMI-in ports on the receiver - BD, DVD, DVR/BDR and audio. In my system preferences for sound, the receiver doesn't show up as an output option. Can anyone please advise. (ps, this is my first time posting a question, so I hope I can find your answers!) thanks, JP downunder

For sound, try the audio output port and connecting to the RCA audio input ports on your Pioneer receiver. Use something like this:

I tried applying a (slightly modified) patch from http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=258042 that modifies "configure.in", but I still get "Audio support not present in this binary" when running "xvidcap --audio yes".
For those interested, here is my patch (xvidcap-1.1.7-avcodec_decode_audio.patch):

• Audio / Sound Card not working after Soundblaster.USB.Audio.Support.pkg

Ok, first - confess - it was stupid. I installed the Soundblaster.USB.Audio.Support.pkg package, which i downloaded from the internet, to make the harman Kardon Soundsticks (USB-Version) working, as nothing happened when plugging them in.
First, it ruined the mouse working after reboot and also disabled the internal sound card, not even as device available anymore. I fixed the mouse problem by installing IOUSBFamily-281.4.0-log(PPC).dmg
How can I make the sound card be available and working again ? I also updated to 10.4.11. Did not help ! Can you ? Thanks !

Welcome to the Apple discussions.
First, look in system preferences, accounts, and for your login account look at login items to see if there is a Soundblaster USB module that is loaded when you reboot your system. Delete it if there is one.
If you updated to 10.4.11 by software update, download the combo update from http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx10411comboupdat eppc.html . The combo update is a complete update for all updates to 10.4, and installing the combo sometimes fixes odd things.

Dear VST Developers,
we are proud to announce the immediate availability of the VST 3.6 SDK. Alongside the VST 2.4, VST 3 and Audio Unit formats, the new SDK for VST 3.6 now allows developers to compile the code for iOS compatibility with Inter-App Audio support, turning the VST development kit into a platform capable of outputting four acclaimed formats conveniently from one technology source.
Other new features to the latest SDK release include enhancements to the VST 2 and Audio Unit wrappers, iOS support for the new 4.2 version of VSTGUI, Steinberg’s cross-platform C++ library for developing UI-based plug-ins, and a new validation tool for VST 3 host applications.
Here's a brief overview of the changes:
- Interfaces Changes

Hi!
I want to use the InterAppAudioHost example as host and then use a drumkit app as node.
Unfortunately I haven’t found any Drum Kit App that supports IAA and can be used as a node. I only find big drum kit apps, like GarageBand that works as a host.
Do you know any good Drum Kit app that support InterAppAudio and work as a node?

• 65L7350U No optical audio output when watching Netflix

Purchased a 65L7350U to replace a dying Mitsubishi. I like to use headphones so have set of Sennheiser RS120 wireless headphones, these are analog, not digital. When I plugged the RCA jacks from the Sennheiser headphones into the new Toshiba TV, there was no sound. Then I relaized I had the same issue with a LG TV I bought a few months ago. I solved the issue on the LG by going to Radio Shack and buying a DA-710 Digital Audio to Analog Converter and a short Optical Audio cable. So on my LG, I can listen to TV and Netflix through my Sennheiser RS120s (another set, I have several). Note that on the LG, I'm getting Netflix through a Roku device.
So I buy the Radio Shack DA-710 converter thinking this will allow me to use my headphones with my new Tohsiba TV. In fact, I am able to listen to TV over the headphones. The issue is when I switch to Netflix (which came with the Toshiba TV, i.e. not using a Roku device), there is no sound.
My wife called Tohsiba support. Their suggestion was to reset the TV to factory defaults and set up the wireless internet connection again...which we did but that did not resolve the issue.
I surfed around the net and found similar issues with Toshiba TVs not sending NetFlix audio to amps/sound systems. There was discussion about the proprietary nature of optical audio signals (Tos-link vs. Dolby vs. ARC...I dont know).
So I'm requesting feedback to understand, or better yet, resolve the inability to hear audio on through my headphones while watching NetFlix. Again, headphones work fine for TV. Also, I can hear the sound on NetFlix through the TV speakers, just not throught he headphones.
Looking forward to your feedback or suggestions.
Regards,
Mike_D

• MacPro 4,1/5,1 video cards and audio support

I have a MacPro5,1 2010 model and I am considering replacing the standard video card with a newer more powerful one which can support 4K displays. I have however seen a lot of reports of problems with Yosemite 10.10.2 and being unable to send audio via the Mini Displayport or HDMI ports on various replacement video cards.
I was wondering if anyone here had better news to report regarding this issue. If so what configuration is working for you?
Am I also right in thinking that all third-party cards regardless of inherent capabilities would be unable to do Displayport MST, and 4K 60Hz via HDMI in OS X?
PS. I would ideally want to retain the Mac boot screen on such a card. (PC flashed cards do not support this.)

The hatter wrote:
Ask MACVIDCARDS
I have already sent them an email and I am awaiting a reply but they will only be able to speak regarding the particular models of card they deal with, there maybe other models they don't handle that have better results - at least with regards to my list of requirements.

• Audio drop-out ATV3/netflix

my new ATV is great, but i'm having some issues with the audio (from netflix).
on occasion the sound drops out completely, normally after 5/10 mins in to watching something.
is this a known issue, apple or netflix?
thanks,
jb.

I am having the same issue. Please patch, this is very annoying. If you go to settings and audio & video settings and toggle audio output from auto to 16bit the audio will come back.
Please fix ASAP. My AppleTV 2 did not do this.

• Recording audio and adding pics

I have an iPhone 4 and I would like to record myself singing a song and put it to pics from my phone without hooking up to a computer. How can I do this? Is there an app for that? I've found ones with will do it to songs on my playlist but not a recording

Hi Comoass,
The application that I would recommend for you would be iMovie. With iMovie, you can create your project and record audio, such as a voiceover, directly into the project. This first link is a general overview of iMovie for iOS.
