5.1 FOR THE GALAXY S6 EDGE?!?

This is unreal.. Why is it everytime a new update comes out it takes AT&T MONTHS to release it?? I'm soo ready to switch carriers. Last time it was the 5.0 update for the Galaxy S5 which took AT&T almost 2 months AFTER (Verizon, Sprint & T-Mobile) to release it. Now it's the 5.1 update for the Galaxy S6 edge... It's crazy everyother carrier released it in June and early July.... Here it is August now and we still don't have it.... There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for it to take this long...I just read today that T-Mobile just released ANOTHER update 5.1.1. Yet AT&T hasn't even released 5.1 (Let alone 5.1.1.) Over the last year AT&T is easily becoming THEE worst phone carrier in the USA.... IF EVERYONE LEAVES THEM FOR VERIZON, SPRINT OR T-MOBILE THEN JUST MAYBE AT&T WILL GET ON THE BALL... This is what I pay $250.00 a month for ???? Enough is enough already.... By the time AT&T releases 5.1.1. for the Galaxy S6 edge it's going to be winter.... No excuse AT&T for it to take this long when everyone else put the update out month(s) ago....

I definitely feel the frustration of waiting for the update.  I'd like to say that I do not hold AT&T accountable for this, I hold Google as the responsible party in the delay in getting the update.  Unlike Apple who dictates when the update is released, Google allows companies to manufactorer their devices to run the OS, and that's great, it's what makes Android more appealing than iOS.  However the device manufactorers such as Samsung, LG, and Motorola have to install their Launcher, and their software, then it is sent over to the carrier, and the carrier loads their software, then they ship it back to Google for approval.  Sure AT&T takes longer than the other carriers but the problem isn't AT&T, it is Google, they should be the only ones pushing out their OS, let Samsung, LG, and  the others release their own software, as the same for the carriers.  The entire process is flawed, and I'm sure if you went to Sprint, T-Mo, or Verizon, you'll find something wrong with them, either the service in your area won't work, customer service will lack in providing you information, or you'll be paying way too much for the same services you've currently got through AT&T.  The grass is not greener on the other side, it might look that way, as I sit here waiting for 5.1, I am just as frustrated as the next guy, but I do not blame AT&T.

Relax and enjoy the service??? I pay for the service and I pay a pretty penny for the service might I add, my 4G-LTE speeds are sickening. How can I relax when I pay OVER $200 A MONTH for a phone that has 4 bars of service yet doesn't go higher then 4MB a second... What is AT&T's excuse for that?? "Alot of people use the tower in your area therefore the speeds go down"..... When I first signed up as a customer for AT&T I lived IN THE SAME PLACE yet my 4G-LTE speeds were OVER 30MB a second.... How do you explain that?? There is no explanation... There is a HUGE difference between speeds of over 30 mb/s down to 3 or 4 mb/s... It's VERY clear that when I first signed up as customer they wanted me and valued me but now that I'm signed into a contract they could careless about me.... I love your comment relax and enjoy the service... People like you are the reason why big companies like AT&T get away with screwing people... Like I said I pay for my service so it's not like AT&T is doing me any favors... I pay a lot and yes you can guarantee that when my contract is up I'm leaving AT&T and I will never do business with them again.. How many times did the FTC have to fine AT&T for throttling Internet speeds OR charging customers for stuff they didn't even sign up for (CRAMMING)..... How is anyone supposed to trust a company like that?? Back to the current problem.... It's August 14th and yet still no 5.1.1. update but guess what VERIZON just released their 5.1.1. update yesterday which means as usual that AT&T is the only carrier left to put out the 5.1.1. update for the Galaxy S6 edge..... On top of it the rep says they don't even know when they will release it..... How are people not supposed to be mad and upset?? So what exactly do I pay ALL this money for?? AT&T is by far the worst carrier I have ever done business with... I will repost this on my Facebook, Twitter and my online blog. People NEED to know not to do business with them or to atleast know what to expect if they do choose to do business with AT&T.....

  • Software Update Page for the Galaxy S4

Has anyone noticed that on Verizon's Software Update Page for the Galaxy S4 it is displaying update I545VRUDMI1? We are currently at update I545VRUEMK2 which is two updates after the one that they have on the Software Update Page.

Probably not for a while since they are talking up the S5 having 4.4 and the S3 and S4 not. Trying to screw us over some more.

  • Next is now, the Galaxy S6 edge review.

Every now and then, you come across something that makes you look twice, makes you wonder and stare. it doesn't happen often, but when it does, it grounds you.my last venture into the realm of Samsung phones ended with the Galaxy S3. since then i have had every Z class Xperia and long forgotten the Samsung way of running android.........So have Samsung by the looks of things.to call this phone a breath of fresh life is the biggest understatement anyone could make, this phone is Samsung redefined to its very core, this is Samsungs finest creation and its rebirth into the grown up android market, and oh boy is it packing some serious guns.powered by Samsungs 64bit octa-core Exynos powerhouse, partnered with Samsungs new über fast ram standard, and then slapped in a Sony IMX240 Image sensor, all pressed firmly behind a piece of 800 degree heated gorilla glass which is then pressed into a curved mold and then attached onto a super amoled 2k display which is then pressed on a single carved piece of top grade aluminum. it is mind blowingly unreal just how thin Samsung have managed to make this phone, and its so, so light.but on with the show....... That's ya boxand whats inside it (yes that's the xperia z4 wallpaper but it  goes soooo well). you alsoget a super quick charger (like stupidly quick) and a funky pair of headphones that sound OK (more on that later)Unboxed and ready for play.. and as you can see, none of this pre scratched nonsense.powering on the phone gives the usual android setup of around 5 minutes but also gives you the opportunity to select the exact Google backup to load, which apps to recover, and which password list to import, brilliant. you also have to add on another 5 minutes to setup your s voice commands, security and fingerprint recognition, all things considered, id rather do this on setup than muck around later on without a clue.  so, we've got it out the box, we've got it set up and now to get rid of touchwiz as soon as possible, but wait, this isn't touchwiz as I know it, this is nothing like the touchwiz I have on my tablet or how I remember it from days past. It's more refined, more in touch with Android stock than I ever expected. It's almost like samsung have taken EVERYTHING  from Galaxy and rewrote the rules. The touchwiz ui on the Galaxy S6 is actually quite good, I knew where everything was and what to do right off the mark, and even if I didn't like the look of it all, Samsung have a skinning app to offer different themes to the OS.  I also love the smart manager app, using software by clean master,  you can use this to give the phone a good clean out if needed.  Powerthis thing is fast, no forget that my old phone was fast, this thing is a new kind of crazy fast, on install  i did notice it lagging, i honestly did, of course at the time is was installing 120 apps from google and restoring my accounts and building caches. since then, not a single frame has dropped and not a single flicker of strain has shown. apps load in stupidly fast times and every single thing is reponsive in a way that is unseen by myself before. for the lolz lets benchmark it... and thats before everything has settled...  battery lifeno two days of battery life here, you want an honest review and youre gonna get one. the battery is good, im going to get a full day and thats what matters, even with Xperia Z3 i was at 30% at days end with my usage but with this i suspect itll be nearer empty. but.... i know and understand that to drive that cpu and to power that gpu to 2k will take a LOT of juice, so the fact i even get a day is amazing, kudos to sammy for that imo. ScreenOh my, (btw for those who believe you cant see a difference between 1080p and 2k on a 5" screen, please continue to the next section as you're about to lose the argument) the screen on this phone is un-frikkin-real its just so crisp, so vivid, so so nice. the difference between the ips panel of xperia and the amoled 2k display is like night and day, text is almost like its printed by laser onto the screen, there is no pixellation at all and when viewing media on the device its a real mind **bleep** at how realistic 2k videos look.  Screen (part 2)The edges. I read a lot before purchase on how the edges weren't as drastic as the note edge, or how they weren't as functional. This is not exactly true, there is a menu setting to adjust and activate various edge features, night clock, news feeds, weather, edge alerts and priority notifications can all be turned on and adjusted from within the menu. SoundSound quality is good, Samsung have really excelled when you consider it's a single speaker setup. Coming from front facing stereo I was worried on how bad the difference would be, it isn't,  it's loud, crisp and very good with its range. Basses are deep and miss and highs are well defined too. I was disappointed at the lack of audio options and control but, hey, it's Android baby, we have apps for that. I haven't really tried the odd freaky looking earphones that came with it yet but I'll update when i do. CameraWhere to begin, it's hard for me, I take lots of pictures, I know a bit about sensors, and I find it hard to come from the 20.7 mpix Xperia Z3 knowing full well that same camera is in the Z3+/Z4 ..... how did Sony get the software for their own cameras so badly written? The camera inside the S6 is so good it's freaky, it (imo) outperforms the z1/2/3/3+/4 in every field and way possible only excluding very low light, and that kinda hurts to admit that. Anyway the S6 edge is fitted with a  Sony IMX240 sensor with 16mpix images available in all modes including quick auto. There are loads of different modes and a dedicated app store to download new optimised modes for the camera. Video records at the following resolutions: 4k, 2k, 1080p 60,  1080p 30, 720 720 60,  720p 120 and vga 640. Image stabilisation is provided by using an ois system for images and ois+ extra stabilisation for video. Conclusion Samsung said they went back to the drawing board with S6,  and oh boy did they. Gone are the bloated forced samsung apps, gone is the marmite flavoured version of touchwiz, and in their place is a rock solid, powerhouse of luxury. It's been a long time since I felt this awestruck over a new phone, I had got comfortable with the norm, I had just let my complacency decide my way....... just as samsung did. But just like samsung , sometimes you've got to go back to the drawing board to get something great again. next is now.

As someone who spends a lot of time writing reviews (for vidya gaems ;P) I enjoyed your review. I am also looking at getting a new phone soon (I am saving up to buy out on refresh). I was considering th next iPhone but from reading your review I may consider this device instead. What I need to know is this. When the phone is in a phone holder which you have in a car for example does the screen get pressed at the sides? I don't wan't to open up Waze put my phone in a holder and it get cancelled out by what it thinks is a button press. Also, is the screen goign to be scratched easy? I am guessing there is no decent screen guards yet. I did buy some screen protection liquid that was recommended on these forums and my lumia still got scratched by about an inch or so.

  • Why do I need to choose a new data plan for the Galaxy Nexus?

So I've been waiting to upgrade my OG Droid to the Galaxy Nexus.
I have the "unlimited data" plan (grandfathered in). My phone is eligible for an upgrade, but when I add it to my cart, it tells me that I need to choose a new data plan because my current one isn't eligible.
I thought once you have the unlimited data, you keep it until you cancel the line or switch to a non-smartphone?
Is this an error on line or if I go to the store will the tell me the same thing?
    Thanks

So I went to the store, and they told me the phone would be $320 instead of $250 like the online price. So, I left and called the customer service number and they told me that the order should go through with the unlimited plan selected, but it doesn't. So they made a note and said I'd have to call customer service after activating the phone to get unlimited data back on to it.
Has anyone ever had to do this? I don't want to get this with a "new" data plan only to have them tell me that they can't put unlimited data back onto it for 29.99/mo.
    Thanks for the responses
How are you getting it for $250 on line?  Do you have a discount or NE2 credit?  Sounds like you didn't go to a coorporate store and went to a Franchise/3rd party store.  They can't see employee discounts or NE2 credits.
It will be around $320 with tax and fees, and your data plan WILL stay the same in store.  Since they said you have to call CSR it further makes me believe you went to a franchise or 3rd party retailer.

  • Is there settings to improve the camera quality for the galaxy 5

are there settings on the camera of a galaxy 5 for that will improve the camera quality?

Hey daninz23, I know that device has a great camera and we want to make sure that you are familiar with all the settings, so you can make the most of the device. You would be able to change the camera resolution by opening the application and pressing the gear icon. That will open the Camera settings and from here you can change many of the camera settings, but for better quality you can change the Picture Size or resolution. Also take a look here for some helpful tips with the camera features for the S5 http://vz.to/1rSHIS6.

  • Galaxy S6 Edge Preorder Allocation Issue

I am still waiting on my preorder of the Galaxy S6 Edge 64 GB. There are numerous stores in the area that have it ready for pick up today and yet I can't get my so called "pre-order."  My wireless chargers are in at the store.  I went in again on Saturday to see if there was an ETA and there was not an update available.  The associate checked the system and there were 68 units sitting in the DC.  Only reason I preordered was for the free charger.  The longer it takes to get in the units, this may hurt my trade in value on my Galaxy S5.  Today it is $145 but next week it could be $100.
Can somebody please check on the poor allocation of product in the market?  How can stores have it to buy today when you haven't fille preorders.
This will probably be my last time to preorder at Best Buy no matter what incentives you throw at me.

    Hello grimlock49,
Buying a new phone is always an exciting experience, and the best way to ensure you will have your favorite phone when it is released is by pre-ordering it. I can certainly understand your disappointment that several days have gone by, and you have not received the anticipated e-mail notifying you that it is ready to be picked up. I'm truly very sorry this has happened to you.
Using the e-mail you registered on the forum, I was able to locate your pre-order, and it looks like they are available, and ready to be picked up. I hope by now you have received your notification, and are able to visit the store at your earliest convenience. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. I assure you your feedback regarding the time you had to wait will be documented for review.
Again, I sincerely apologize for any frustration you have encountered and I hope you are enjoying your new phone!

I've seen a lot of chatter about the FroYo update, but don't really understand what it's supposed to do for the phone, specifically Fascinate.  It's supposed to "fix" ... what?
Can anybody shed light on this for me?
I'm not a techy by any means... so please dumb it down for me...

It should improve overall speed, hopefully fix the slow GPS locks, all full flash 10.1, and a few other miscellanous tweaks. Below is the unofficial changelog for the Galaxy S Froyo update which should be similar

  • Is there a timeframe for the Android Update 4.2.2 or 4.3, or even 5.0?

I have been reading online how several other phones have the 4.2.2 update and have had some issues, a reason why there are rumors that the Galaxy s3 won't see it, but maybe jump to 4.3 or 5.0. If anyone has any answers, not rumors, can you let us know please. Thank you.

    Shortened for brevity.....
Earlier this week, Samsung not only confirmed the Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update, it detailed the update for its users, offering information on what the update will bring when it arrives. And while Android 4.3 Jelly Bean still figures to be next in line for the Galaxy S3, at least one carrier appears to be gearing up for a Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.2.2 update instead. For weeks now, all we’ve been hearing about is how the Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update is close to rolling out. Rumors about the timing have put the Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean roll out in November with a release date still unknown. And given that Samsung finally confirmed the update not once, but twice this week, it’s safe to assume that we’re close. The Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 update could come in November. Earlier this week, Australian carrier Telstra released an updated version of its timeline for upcoming updates. On that page, the carrier confirmed a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for November but surprisingly, it had the Samsung Galaxy S3 listed with an Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update. Concerned customers wrote in, asking if the update was a typo. We’ve seen carriers make mistakes in these timelines before so the questions were relevant. It appears that one person who asked did receive a response from Telstra and surprisingly, it’s not a typo. The carrier apparently plans to upgrade the Samsung Galaxy S3 to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean instead of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in November. Thus far, it’s the only carrier that has affirmed these intentions though it’s not clear if it will be the last. Remember, Samsung was rumored to be having problems with the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update and it was labeled as a reason why it shifted to Android 4.3 instead. So this development is a bit surprising to say the least. The carrier expects to deliver the Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.2.2 update on November 25th though that date is obviously subject to change. If the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update does roll out to some owners in November it will certainly make Telstra decision look strange. At this point, no U.S. carriers have confirmed Android 4.3 or Android 4.2 for their Galaxy S3 variants and we don’t expect them to confirm anything ahead of their arrival.

  • Is there a plan to release The galaxy S2?

Okay, so I understand that there is a galaxy nexus, but personally, I don't like it. The bare android set up is boring to me. I was really hoping for a galaxy S2 that looks like the AT&T version, But we got the nexus instead. So My question is simple. Is there a plan for the Galaxy S2 coming to Verizon?

I'm currently a 9 Year Sprint customer and have been seriously considering switching to Verizon,.. .then for reasons that we can only guess at Verizon decided NOT to carry a Galaxy S2 Model (mind boggling...) so I said to hell with that idea and kept Sprint and am happier than i could have ever hoped with my Galaxy S2 Epic.
Now i'm still considering switching primarily because of my service area and it would be nice to consolidate my MiFi service (with Verizon) and my phone (with Sprint).
So the latest I've been able to find is that the Galaxy S3 is set to be launched in April (or May depending which news outlet you believe). Sprint among others have confirmed that they will be on the launch list offering a Galaxy S3 Model (or possibly more than one) and yet still not a word from Verizon. What is the DEAL?!?!
Verizon really dropped the ball in not offering a Galaxy S2 model, so I'm affraid it's not much of a stretch to imagine they might for some absurd reason decide NOT to offer an S3 Model. I sincerely hope that this is NOT the case, but who knows with prior track record as it is.
What I do know without a doubt is that this horrible decision making LOSES CUSTOMERS... like ME, My wife, and 4 Girls for example.....

from what ive read the only official 5.0 released in oct was the SDK the final source code was released in nov. samsung devices have started to get 5.0 in polland. verizon should have samsungs version of 5.0 for final inspection/modification by now and should be close to rolling out. would be nice if the carriers here didnt keep the updates a secret, so verizon feel free to share when you plan on pushing it to devices. customers wont care if you have to push the date back as long as you keep people informed instead of in the dark. htc has a device running 5.0 already and their 90 day guarentee will mean other phones have it by feb 2015. any hint from verizon would b nice
