5.1 mastering or not?

how do you master your 5.1 mix for the final export in ac3?
Just put eq, compression and limiter on the channel outs?
Or you reload the single channel exported tracks and in a program like logic master them in a better way and level?

I ask this question because I noticed that...look this exe..
Make a normal stereo multitrack composition on a video in soundtrack pro.
Then to improve sound, as for cd audio, insert a compressor and limiter (after an eq control and setting) in the main outs. The compressor-limiter couple raise up the total volume and dynamics and the limiter keep control peaks over the 0 digital limit. This is normal behaviour.
Now export the mixdown as an aiff to use in a Lpcm audio track in dvdstudiopro dvd mounting.
This final mix IS NOT MASTERED YET, or better, we can make it sound incredibly better. My friends tell me that my music dvd audio sounds DOC.
If you want it to sound dynamically as an audio cd, you have to master it as you do with an audio cd.
Load the mix in logic.
See that the mix that you exported with soundtrackpro will sound 5,6 db under the 0 top in the level meter of logic!!!!
So there is a differencd in the level scale of two audio software..but consider logic as a reference for the maximum sound under the 0 db level.
So is better to export with soundtrackpro the mixdown without a compressor limiter in the main out and proceed to master it in logic with a REAL DB level scale.
I normally use TC electronics to do so. I put in the main out of logic The dynamic eq, a little amount of reverb and the mitic master x3...the mastered mix of the film soundtrack now sounds like a pro cd audio with an incredible dynamic. Your stereo audio of the video can raise up the hear of the spectator!!!If you have to reduce space on the disk and so use dolby digital 2.0, you can do the same process but encoding the mastered aiff with compressor in ac3 format.
The process is more complicated in ac3 5.1 mix.
You have to export every channel and then reload the tracks in logic setting the outs as you do in soundtrack to use the mastering process.
This is a bit complicated and took up a certain amount of time.....A lot of time for dvd film ,this process in 5.1 dolby digital, is SKIPPED and limited to a simple compressor-limiter in soundtrack pro.
In fact..
Took up a commercial film dvd in a setted home cinema. Listen to the volume of the Linear pcm audio track and the 5.1 dolby digital one...there is the famous 5-6 db of level difference!!!!
Wait for your opinion..

  • I've moved my Aperture library to another computer, and masters are referencing an old path name.  How can I update these references?  Reloctating masters does not work in this case :(

I've moved my Aperture library from one computer to another using Finder.
I merged the library with one which was already on the computer.
Now, the photos I imported have reference to the old path name on my old computer.
How can I update these references as "Relocate Masters" does not work in this case?

Just one suggestion to be able to reconnect all at once:
Create a smart album containing the images with missing masters:
File -> New ->  Smart Album,     and add a rule: File Status is "Missing"     (or File Status is "offline")
Then select the images in this album and go to the File menu:
and select:   File -> Locate referenced File
If you are lucky, Aperture will reconnect all at once, if you point the first image version to its counterpart.

  • How do I transfer old masters from a vault to a new machine

I have Aperture Masters on an old iMac, saved into a vault on an external hard disk . I bought a new iMac and want to bring the originals from my old machine onto the new machine.
Presumably, I can download them from the vault to the new machine, but I'm not sure how.
So far, I've managed to import versions onto the new machine but not masters. I'm terrified of doing the wrong thing and losing thousands of vital photos, so any help greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum.
Tell us what it is you're doing to get the versions.
Was the old library managed or referenced? If you used a referenced library, your masters were not backed up to the vault.
If you used a managed library, restoring from a vault is straight forward. Just launch Aperture on the new iMac then choose
File>>Vault>>Restore Library then tell Aperture where the vault is. You might want to create a new blank library before you start.

Creation of storage location for halb, every thing processed with raw materials for production orders reg  fert and even settled. Later a storage location is to be created for halb. When I created storage location for halb and when I want to post initial stock through MB1C I am getting error saying material type and storage location not maintained. Can any one solve my problem. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Vachanala,
Are the material masters of your materials extended to the new storage location / have you defined automatic creation (for movement) in customizing (SPRO > Material Manegement > Inventory management & PI > Automatic movements > Create Storage Location Automatically)?
If the material masters are not extended you can't book those materials to that SL.

  • Import photos from SD Card into a library with referenced masters

    I have the following problem:
I would like to migrate from Aperture (that I used for the past couple of years) to Photos for OS X. (Well, let's say I feel kind of forced to  by Apple's decision to abandon Aperture and since I do not like to switch to Lightroom (which I fear will soon be available via Adobe's Cloud system!)). I successfully migrated my Aperture library to Photos. My library is a 'referenced library', i.e. a library where the original photos ('masters') are NOT inside the library but stored in a separate location. In my case the original photos are stored on a NAS. Photos recognizes all my photos and by right-clicking on a photo I can select the 'Show in Finder' option and Photos correctly shows then the location of the corresponding photo on the NAS. So far so good.
The  problem arises when I want to import new photos from the camera (or its SD card). I plugin the SD card into the Mac and fire up Photos. Then I click on 'Import'. I do not succeed in importing the photos from the SD card in a way that the original files (masters) are copied to the NAS (the place where I keep my masters). In fact when I import then everything (also the master files) are copied into the library (which is located on the Mac's internal SSD.) This happens despite I have deselected "Copy objects into photo library" in the Photos app Preferences.
(Another problem is that, with Aperture, I could import photos from the SD card in a way that the originals were copied to the NAS, renamed appropriately (e.g. <date>-<time>.JPG and put automatically in an Aperture-created folder structure (year/month/day). I fear that the only way to keep on working with 'referenced' masters will be by NOT using Photos' Import function directly for the import from the SD card, but first to copy 'manually' (using the Finder) the photos from the SD card to the NAS (after having created year, month, day folders manually) and then to use Photos Import function. Is this really the sad truth?
Another problem is: When I delete a photo from the library, it will NOT be deleted from the masters! :-(
Has anybody experienced the same problems?
    Cheers
    Rainer

    The SanDisk website has a PDF owner's guide that says the following;
Macintosh Disk Icons: When you connect the MicroMate Reader/Writer on a Macintosh operating system, a removable disk icon labeled
“untitled” representing the MicroMate Reader/Writer will show on the desktop when a card is inserted.
It also has directions to drag the removable disk icon labeled “untitled” to the trash to remove the disk. There is also a support link to a ebox page on a secure site that won't let me go farther (I think I need a newer browser), so I can't find drivers.
My problem is that the icon doesn't show up and I can't find it in any applications I try. I know the Disney camera is a toy, its for my 5 year old, but I am having the identical problem with both the Disney camera and SanDisk.

  • 2 masters 1 details.. high priority please!!

    here is the scenerio:
    ====================
Block 'B' has two masters. The 2 masters are NOT realted to each other.
    My form has:
    One master block called 'A'.
    One child block called 'B'.
    one more block 'C'.
-> A(one) to B(many) is an unbroken relations ship. They cannot exist without each other.
->> There is no relationship between 'A' AND 'C'. (both masters)
->>>For each 'C'(master) there may be (ZERO) or (ONE) or (more than ONE) rows in 'B'.
I dont know how to desgin the form for this relationship.
->'C' master block table's data is already in table, so need not worry about inserting into that table. only updating and I can take care of that on ON-INSERT trigger.
    ->If execute_query for 'B' fetches 10 rows, how to show 'B' and 'C'??
    total confusion.
    Thanks in advance.
    prasad.

I cannot have 2 forms because:
    Data entry happens like this.
Each batch has 50 incoming mails. It will be given a batch number (master record).
Each mail paper is a child record. Each given a unique number. (child record). A check accompanies each mail.
Data entry operator enters all the data manually into system.
    ->>>
But,if the mail has a check AND ALSO an INVOICE_STAMP(optional) then: she enters only INVOICE_NUMBER.
Data entry operator has no control over the child record, all fields are disabled and I have to get all the data from different tables related to that INVOICE_NUMBER that she enters. she has to just compare and save.
    ============
What I am doing is, if 2nd master record has 5 child records, I am just repeating the master record 5 times along with child record.
    The problem is,
1)when I query the child record, 2nd master records are not appearing. Only child records are coming. (I MESSED UP SOMEWHERE, I AM LOOKING INTO IT.)
2)when I query the 2nd master record being on the 2nd block, nothing is appearing. Query caused no records to retrieve. There are records in the table.
    Thanks for the reply.
I know it is difficult for you to give me a solution. I will find out myself by trail and error.

  • KeynotePro masters in new Keynote '09

Hi, I have the older keynotepro products installed with new iwork'09 installed and the masters do not behave well. For example, you cannot select the background "image" to edit (ie move, size, etc.) u can however duplicate it.Perhaps this is normal, dunno, just getting into custom editing of templates and master pages.Cutting and pasting the background into Photoshop, and rountripping from that does not work very well either. Perhaps Keynote backs are not real vector files, but bitmaps in a vector container...dunno. Also, Keynote is putting the the theme in macintosh hd/library/Application Support/Keynote which does not look right. Then there are the supplemental materials when opened have all sorts of errors and are hard to figure out how to use. KeynotePro has not answered a copy of this email and has no instructions on the site per se, except to come here. There is a claimer in the banner that says all this should work however in '09. Anyone out here working with these? thx!!!

All versions of Keynote can find themes in that folder you list, though if it's installing them there, they must be REALLY old. I do know Keynote 1 themes have a hard time in anything 08 or newer, so there's an issue there most likely. Also, older themes don't use the image mask function, and really old themes don't even use the vector filled shape trick that newer themes use. MOst likely they are simply tiff or png images actually placed on the master that have a hole punched in them to mask the photo against. On pages that aren't photo cutouts, those backgrounds aren't placed on the slide, they are chosen as the slide "background" and can't be selected (even new themes do this). In order to get those you have to crack open the theme or .key package and copy out the image.
Have you tried logging into your KeynotePro account and seeing if there are newer versions you can download?

  • Changing Service Masters in to Service Materials (DIEN) any complications,

    Hello SAP Gurus,
We are dealing with a Construction Based Client and along with Materials we also mainly require services,
We right now have created Service Masters for catering our Service requirements, doing service entry sheets,
But the major Issue with going by Service Masters is this Service masters could not be included them in BOM and we could not run MRP for there requirements,
Basically for completing any Construction activity we require Material and also services to be performed but the service masters could not be included in MRP,  also the delivery cost cannot be handled going by Service masters,
so we are planning to convert our Service Masters in to Service Materials to accomplish this requirements. any issues going by the same, and any precautions to be followed please suggest. have any one run there service requirements by using Service Materials instead of Service Masters / service activity please throw some light.
    Awaiting your suggestions
    Thanks and regards
    Kumar

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply,
The BADI and the info you have explained details about activating Services for Subcontracting Procedure, where in it requires to maintain Material Masters as required for managing and running Subcontracting process,
But our company have already created 1000s of Service masters for managing there Service Activities ( only problem being cannot run MRP for Service masters  and Specify Delivery cost for Service POs)
now as to get MRP we should  make a huge shift from Service Masters to Subcontracting Materials with BOM Values and should be well planned. i will definitely try to work on it and see how it goes.
but also is there any way to use the existing Service Masters for running MRP, or including in BOM,  or any how to Plan services,
    Thanks and Regards,
    Kumar

  • Optimize performance of large library and masters, and hardware?

I followed some very useful advice here during the transition from Aperture 2 to 3, about a year ago.  It dealt with keeping things running efficiently, when managing 100,000+ photos in your Aperture library.  Defragmentation, eSata drives, referenced files, etc.
The best information came from a "Kevin J. Doyle".  I'd be delighted to hear from him how he currently has things set up, including hardware.  (Like me, he is a registered user, but I don't see any way to contact him directly via e-mail, and don't see any web page for him elsewhere.  So this is a message in a bottle. . . .)
I'm currently wrestling with inadequate hardware (iMac 7,1, with 6GB Ram, and multiple hard drives via fw800), and suffering long hours doing basic housekeeping just to keep things barely adequate.  For example, after I've done a lot of overnight copying and repairing of things, I still have to wait more than ten seconds for an individual image to load on screen before I can edit it.  And if I use brushes, the resulting "processing" can sometimes take up to a minute before I see the particular effect of my brushing.  I waste a lot of time.  (I spend a lot of time keeping customers updated on my slow progress with their pictures too, hoping they don't get too frustrated.)
I know it's a common observation, that computer hardware and software must be routinely maintained (usually via other sofware, eg. Cocktail, Disk Warrior, etc.).  I think I'm beyond the point I can eek out better performance from this generation of iMac.  I'm thinking about the Mac Pro next.  I'm not too concerned for now about the rumored end of Apple development of the Mac Pro.  I probably should be, but I'm sure that anything I get hold of in the Mac Pro line from the last two or three generations would be faster and easier to use (organizing multiple hard drives, in particular).
I'm also keen to know how to organize my library better.  I have 250,000 and counting photos, referenced.  2TB and more of masters.  I work with thumbnails, but without previews (because they made the library too large to copy in a reasonable time, i.e. overnight via fw800, and did not seem to speed up the editing in any way I could measure).  Currently everything is in one library.  I've tried making a small "work-in-progress" separate library, thinking that might speed things up.  It made no difference.  Tried the same with managed versus referenced.  No difference.  Anything else I could try?
My masters are located on a very fast (raid-5) and large (6TB) disc, accessed by the library via fw800, because that's all I can get from the iMac.  FWIW, the location of the masters does not seem to have anything to do with the editing performance slowness.  I and others here ran those tests a while ago, when I switched from a managed to a referenced library.

It is time to move to more modern Sandy Bridge hardware. New Mac Pros with the latest graphics support will almost assuredly be available soon. I suggest waiting to see the choices/prices and then moving to more adequate Thunderbolt-based hardware, very much preferably Mac Pro rather than iMac if the new MP pricing is at all civilized.
Top iMacs obviously have cpu speed (for those who can tolerate the glossy display) but for heavy images work a true tower with a top graphics card has the appropriate beef to best perform the tasks you are presenting.
Sandy Bridge Xeon cpus are available Q1 but there is however some chance that Apple might delay the MP upgrade until the Ivy Bridge Xeon cpus in the April/May time frame.

  • Versions and Masters, size and trying to save space

I am looking at my Library and trying to get rid of duplicates - In a List view I see an image and then its Version2. The image master is 9.58 mb; the version is also. I thought versions were supposed to be just the tweaks of the masters and not themselves all that large? I'd like to delete the original and keep the version but know I can't do thatt; if you delete a Master it deletes a version so you can't convert the Version into a new Master
BUT - would this work - export the Versions - delete the Masters - reimport the Versions which then become Masters?
Of course the other option is to offload them all anyway but before going that route, I'm trying to come up with another idea. Or a better idea.

    What William said +
You can turn off auto preview generation for new projects, you can turn off "maintain previews" for existing or old projects, you can delete all of the previews and then just generate them for your rated images.
You can also take a some of your images either by project or by any other criteria and then use move masters to an external drive.

  • Release Info cube to OLTP - PIR not creaeted in ECC system

    Hi,
I am releasing a key figure from info cube to the OLTP syetm (APO to ECC 6.0) as a PIR quantities. The program is executed by process chain in RSPC transaction. The process is executed without any error messages. When I check the planned Independent requirements in ECC system. There is no PIR created.
I have checked the RFC connection between the ECC and APO systems and found the connection is OK. How can I further troubleshoot this issue.
    thanks and regards

The product masters were not maintained in the APO system. After maintaining the product masters the PIRs are created in the ECC system.

  • PXI bus mastering?

I honostly dont know what PXI bus mastering is, but I belive I need to find out pretty soon. I have a project in which I will be needing to take in 16 million samples, 8 million on 2 channels from a PXI-5102 digitizer, and then analyze. The board itself i know can not handle this, but what it can do is "16 million samples to host RAM via PXI bus mastering " This is great, I need 16 million samples, now... how do I do this? Anyhting to get me in the right direction would eb greatly appreciated, thank you very much.
    -Mark

""I honostly dont know what PXI bus mastering is, but I belive I need to find out pretty soon."
I do not think you have to worry about what it is unless you plan on dropping this device in a non-NI chassis or do not plan on using NI-drivers.
    PXI bus mastering
is a method interfaces can use to control the PXI bus in order to transfer dat from on-board buffers into system memory (or other devcies).
"Back in the Old days" (i.e. 30MHz CPU's) bus mastering was not available on all PCI busses. THen latter on it was available in some PCI slot on some computers but but not all (i.e. 400 Mhz CPU's).
I have never heard of an issues re: bus mastering in PXI chassis.
    So...
Drop that board in a PXI chassis and load up NI-DAQ, configure it, and you should be
good to go. NI did all of the hardwork for you!
If want to be certain before purchasing the board just tell ask the sales person to have someone send you an e-mail indicating that the devices will do "X". I have done this anytime I was less than certain re: the fine print in a device spec.

  • Aperture has lost the masters in my library,

I'm not aware I've done anything to lose them but they appear lost, where have they gone and how do I get them back?
This is very traumatic, I do havebackups of most but not all.
    Thanks
    Paula

I'd start by running the steps shown in Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics
How do you know that the masters are not referenced?   If they are managed they should be i the Aperture library. If they are in a folder on the desktop that would seem to indicate that they are referenced.
Do the troubleshooting steps and post back if that doesn't fix the problem.
    good luck

  • I want to remove masters but aperture won't let me. Yellow Explanation mark badge visible..?

There are some masters that I can't remove from Aperture (2) as a yellow explanation mark comes up. I think there may be masters somewhere else in the mac hard drive but not in Aperture. Any one out there has any ideas?

Everything in the Aperture Library would be using Managed Masters, and not Referenced.  Your mention of referenced led me to go that direction.  Also you seem to have observed a symbol that means referenced masters are Offline?
If Managed, then Masters would be in the Masters folder which can be found by right clicking on the Aperture Library and choosing Show Package Contents.  Difficult to navigate, but size can be checked, and with enough looking the images.
