Question: I realize by the posts here that you must have a compatible media player in order to take advantage of 5. sound. I have seen WinDVD and PowerDVD players mentioned. If it is not breaking any forum rules, can anyone advise which is the better package to purchase? I would greatly appreciate the help. Thanks,

I just use a free version of WinDVD or PowerDVD, I've tried an early version of nVIDIA's DVD software too (I'm not sure whether it requires an nVIDIA VGA card), but I have to say I haven't noticed much difference between them all. As for sound, if you select SPDIF as the output, then the Soundcard will decode the Dolby/DTS soundtrack (if your card supports it) and the sound will be exactly the same from all of them, even the free versions of PowerDVD and WinDVD. I haven't used MP 0 as I can't seem to enable SPDIF output. :smileyindifferent:

As long as it's been fully downloaded then you shouldn't need to be online in order to watch it.
As to how long you have to watch it, from here :
You have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and 24 hours (in the US) or 48 hours (elsewhere) after you've started viewing to finish it. Once the rental period expires, the movie will disappear from your iTunes library.

Uninstall your existing copy of iTunes. Delete any copies of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer files from your downloads areas for your web browsers and download a fresh copy of the iTunes installer from the Apple website:

Does the install with the new copy of the installer go through properly? If so, does that clear up the error message?

It rather depends on the movie. Films with a lot of loud noises such as explosions are balanced with the speech level quite low, so that the loud noises really do sound loud. The result of this is that the dialogue sounds vastly quieter than a pop music recording, which is usually balanced to the highest possible level all the time. It's just a fact of life.

I have never rented a movie in iTunes and tried to move it to my iPad, but according to the instructions on this website, you click on - Sync.

Big Volume Difference Between Menu Sound and Movie Sound

I transferred an iMovie Project to iDVD the normal way, then made a DVD with a menu from a template, chose a song from my iTunes library, and burned it to DVD.
The problem is that when I play the DVD, the menu plays fine and the music is great, but when I select the movie and it plays, the sound is very low and I have to turn the volume way up to hear it.
Is there a way to equalize the sound of the menu music and the movie sound so the viewer won't have to adjust the volume?

I've had this issue many times myself with i-apps. To say it's an annoyance is an understatement. I'm assuming the Menu volume adjustment isn't working as well as you had hoped. Try it nevertheless.

This is less of an issue with apple's pro apps which address audio much better than iMovie => iDvd. However the learning curve for apple's pro apps is no cake walk.
But you do have a few remedies available to you (keeping in mind none of the following represents a cure-all):
The first is to fine tune audio in the iMovie 6 timeline for audio. You'll have to extract the original audio and set up a new track.
The second is to use garage band instead or a third party app for all audio enhancements.

Pause Movie and Play song file, sound is scratchy and hear movie sound

When I play a movie then pause and go to a music file the sound is very scratchy and I can hear stuff from the movie playing. Once it was a sound that just kept repeating, the other time i could the voices but they were in super slow motion. Any help would be appreciated in understanding this issue.

That is what is happening, I hope that they resolve this issue as it seems to be something I do quite often as everyone wants to see the video playback then on my drive home I kick off an audiobook for the drive.

I purchased iTunes movies and when I try to play them using iTunes on my windows 8 laptop, the audio lags and is staticy. Any ideas?

yes - very much expected if your sound was in the timeline
and set to "Stream". Stream sounds get
embedded into the timeline and thereby forcing the animation
to remain in sync with it - once
removed then the animation is not really in sync with
anything and it's dependant on the speed of
the processor during runtime as to ohow fast the player
renders each frame.
with streaming sound, the player will actually drop frames if
it has to to keep up with the audio.
many developers, if needing to sync animation to time but
have no need for audio, will "record" a
bit of dead/empty soundtrack and place it on the timeline -
repeating and set to stream to keep the
animation in sync with the frame rate.
flash is dynamic - it is not pre-rendered, fixed frame rate
video format - it renders on the fly and
"heavy" animations and/or slower processors will cause slower
playback depending. of course the
differences are very subtle with higher end machines and
movies that are well optimized.

When Importing a movie, Sound will not Import with Movie

When I import some quicktime movies into IMovie which I have download, the movie will import into IMovie but there will be no sound with the movie when I play it in IMovie. Can anyone help me...

Obviously your QT movies are, in fact, MPEG movies. You need 3rd party utilities to convert MPEG to DV with audio. Search the forum -- this is a mother of all FAQs here.

For Movie sound tracks, how to Make sound? Auto Normalize is dangerous

I'm not sure how to do this.
But i'm making an animation movie. i lay sounds(Mp3's etc i downloaded from websiteis) in about 3 different Normal audio tracks.
I add sounds ettects(GB rain, etc) too and also later on i will add a music track.
The problem is that, all these sounds came from different sources. some of them are loud.. some of them are quiet.
How do i prepare my sound project so that when i export somehow all that will be fixed. The last time i made a movie..and watched in in a normal TV.. some sounds were quiet i had to up the volume.. then other sounds would suddenly play and they were too loud.
At that time, i didn't use any compression or anything like that. I just adjusted the volume track sound level lines for the entire single track but also within the track i added KEYS so that i could lower the volume of loud sounds.
The whole thiing sounded good when i heard it in GBand.. but in the TV it just didn't sound good. I had loud sounds and soft sounds.. i had to, as i said, keep adjusting the TV volume.
What effect do i have to add so that 1) there won't be any dangerous changes in sounds( Some too loud, some too quiet) and 2)So that my whole track is in the same level when i play it on a TV.
I heard that using compressionin helps.. I tried a test, go to track edit and select Comporession->Limiter smooth.
That sounded like something that would work. and it did sound nice. But i'm not sure if when i play it on tv.. it iwll sound too low or too loud compared to other TV shows.
In sum, how do i make it so that when i create my movie using a Gband soundtrack composition...and hear it on at TV, that the sound level will be around the same as a regular TV show.. and not have super loudness or something

Before you experiment with compression, just put clips with different volumes on separate tracks in GB and adjust the volume using the volume slider!

How do I remove the background from a movie I made?
I imported a QT movie at 368/272 pixels, but for whatever
reason the HTML jumps up to 550/400.
The movie is still 368/272 but there is a background border
making it 550/400. Tried all sorts of settings in Publish but
can’t get rid of it. Can I keep the movie (and controller)
and not the background?
I can get round it by changing the background colour, but
surely there must be another way.
Also: My QT file was fine but the .flv has a stuttering
sound, any idea what could cause that?

AppleTV HomeSharing Movie Sound Keeps Dropping

Starting about a month or so ago, movie files which stream from my Mac to my AppleTV keep dropping sound periodically (every 2-3 minutes, sometimes as short as 10 seconds). I can pause the movie and then press play and the sound comes back - although sometimes it emits a loud "pop" noise before it drops, but not always.
This only happens on some of my movies, but not all (all are encoded the same way, using Handbrake to rip my DVDs & BluRays). My setup is AppleTV to Vizio TV with HDMI and Vizio TV to Bose CineMate Series II with optical.
The same movies that are doing this, if I put the movie on a flash drive and plug it straight into the TV play with no issue.
I've done a lot of searching, but can't find any real answers.
So far I've tried rebooting my Mac, rebooting the AppleTV, doing a factory restore on the AppleTV, updating iTunes, and all so far to no luck. Has anyone had any experience with something like this?

How to move sound track with video to another drive

If I want to work on a project on another Mac, I copy the iMovie Events and Projects folders to a portable drive, then drag them into the correct folders of the other Mac. (Not sure if this is the best way, but it works.) But the sound track is missing if I don't have the same songs in that Mac's iTunes. What's the best way to keep the song with the project when I transfer to another Mac?

I tried the Consolidate command, and I see how it works, copying the events or clips to another >drive. But how does the music track get transferred? I don't see it in the copied folder.
If you followed the instructions, the music track is there. It is probably in the Project file. If you right click on the RCPROJECT file, select "Show Package Contents" and see if you can spot it.

Yes, iMovie sees the external drive, and you can work on your movie. If you prefer, you could drag the RCPROJECT file to the Movies/iMovie Events Folder and then run the Consolidate command again to move everything to the new computer, but you really don't need to. It should work fine on the external drive.
The external drive must be formatted as Mac OX Extended (journaled)
