5.1 plus stereo audio

Can anyone help me to know how I can render out a quicktime movie with 5.1 surround sound plus stereo pairs on tracks 7 and 8. I'm basically trying to follow the guidelines for Apple iTunes submissions. Can this be done in Premiere CC.
I've been able to make 5.1 surround sound movies by setting the sequence to 5.1 and modifying each of the 6 audio tracks to assign them to specific channels. But I don't know how to add the stereo tracks into the rendering process.
I have found a couple of "work arounds" posted on line like Exporting Multichannel Quicktimes in Premiere Pro | Strypes In Post but none have seemed to work for me. When I follow the instructions not all of the channels play. I've also seen a method where in the sequence settings when setting up the tracks that you alternate the balance pan from -100 for the odd tracks to 100 for the even tracks and then pan the audio in the mixer panel accordingly. However, none of these seemed to work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply. Do you have any suggestions for a Windows based
software program that would render the audio tracks together with the video
track to acheive a 5.1 plus stereo mix?
Thanks

  • How do I export 5.1 audio plus stereo audio in the same sequence?

For final broadcast delivery, we need to provide a ProRes 422 video with 48, 24bit audio on 8 tracks according to the following configuration.  How do I do this in Premiere since it does not have a true, discrete 5.1 channel or outputs?
Channel 1 Surround Mix Left Front
Channel 2 Surround Mix Right Front
    Channel 3 Surround Mix Center
    Channel 4 Surround Mix LFE
Channel 5 Surround Mix Left Rear
Channel 6 Surround Mix Right Rear
    Channel 7 Stereo Left
    Channel 8 Stereo Right

Currently you can export only 5.1 or stereo, but not both at the same time.  The next update will add the capability you're looking for.

  • Creating 5.1 surround sound out of stereo audio

    Hi,
I'm new to surround sound editing, so for the past few weeks I've been searching through internet how to create suround sound for my movie. I have a whole movie already done in Premiere Pro 5 (every scene in it's own squence). In these sequences I have stereo audio clips that  create a complete stereo sound, but since this movie is going to go on film festivals I have to create surround sound.
Through my reasearch I came across many explanations of how to create it, but the more I read the more it confused me so I decidet to ask for help on this forum.
    1. Is it posible to create surroundsound directly out of stereo audio (I know that the sequences that you are working in has to be set to surround sound) that I have in first, second and third chanel, that have  surround sound controls above them in Audio mixer?
    2. I know that  in 5.1 chanels you can only inport 5.1 surround sound tracks. My question is, do I have to take each stereo clip, transform it in mono clip and then create a stereo clip out of that mono clip?
    3. Did I completly miss the whole concept of creating surround sound and that I would have to do it diferently?
    Thanks for helping out, Jaggarjack

To output to DD 5.1 SS, you will need an Encoder, like the Minnetonka Audio SurCode DD5.1 SS plug-in.
You can also use Audition (do not know about SB) to create 6-channel files (usually WMA w/ either 5, or 6 discrete channels, depending on how you handle the LFE). Still, to use such a set of files with Audio-Visual material, you will need an Encoder. Minnetonka Audio has others, like the SurCode DD 5.1 SS stand-alone and the DTS stand-alone.
If you have disassembled the original audio streams into mono sources, you can create faux 5.1 SS, and with a little work, it can be quite convincing. The 5.1 controls in a 5.1 Master Project, can be very useful for "creating" your sound stage. You can also use those to feed certain frequencies from other sources to the LFE, and to the Center channel. With good stereo in the Front speakers, you should already have a decent phantom Center, and can punch that up even more.
I would recommend starting with the Help File for "Surrond Sound," to get the basics down, plus the mechanics in PrPro. HERE is a little sample. You might also want to see the links in this PrPro-Wiki Search for more material.
The Recording Academy's Producers & Engineers' Recommendations for Surround Sound Production is useful paper.
    I recommend three books:
Surround Sound, Second Edition: Up and Running, Tomlinson Holman (cannot find my copy for ISBN)
Instant Surround Sound, Jeffery Fisher, CMP Books ISBN 1-57820-246-9
Basics of Video Sound, Des Lyver, Focal Press ISBN 0-240-51561-7
That would be a good start.
    Happy reading, and up-mixing,

  • How do I set up stereo audio tracks as default in Premiere using the ProRes 422 codec?

Forgive me if this has been asked many times before. I have searched but can't find anything that explains it in language that doesn't require an advanced degree in computer engineering.
I am a recent convert for our beloved FCP 7. I am learning to love Premiere dearly - but the audio part of it drives me nuts.
I have exported from FCP a series of files as ProRes 422 movies with stereo audio tracks. I want to bring them into Premiere in the same way. But when I do it squashed everything into a single audio file.
This plays havoc with the panning - especially in mixes that have stereo music mixes. Apart from that it just confuses me.
Also. when I create a new project from scratch in Premiere and I select the custom ProRes 422 setting it only allows ProRes 422 mono audio. I don't see a codec for anything else (ie. stereo).
    Am I missing something?
I have looked in all the preferences areas and can't find anywhere to change this. I just want to be able to import simple, basic two track audio (and have it show up the same)  as I would in FCP, ProTools and the myriad other editing programs I use.
I also want to be able to set up a basic two track stereo timeline/sequence without having to reinvent the wheel.
Many thanks for any help and your patience. I am slowly tearing my hair out and spending long periods sitting in the corner hugging my knees and weeping.
My specs. Preferred editing codec: ProRes 422
    Premiere pro version CS6 (6.05)
    Thanks again.

Go to the Project Panel, select all clips and rightclick/modify/audio channels.
Set it to 2 tack and mono.
When you drop the clip onto the timeline the stereo will come in on two tracks.
You can also set this to default in the Preferences under Audio (before importing the clips) (Stereo set to mono).

  • How do I import AVI video with stereo audio (and keep it that way)?

Today I just discovered that all the AVI video with stereo audio I've ever imported into a Premiere Pro CS6 project has been mysteriously converted to mono. And I can't find any import setting anywhere that enable me to change this.
    Here's the deal...
I've have an AVI file with stereo audio (the file is actually a stereo sound test that I downloaded to prove that I wasn't imagining things). On my hard drive, I right-click and view the properties:
    Video
    Length: 00:00:36
    Frame width: 320
    Frame height: 240
    Frame rate: 25 frames/second
    Audio
    Bit rate: 128kbps
    Channels: 2 (stereo)
    Audio sample rate: 44 kHz
I click on it to play and listen with headphones--everything is playing in the correct part of the stereo spectrum. Then, I import it to Premiere, click the file name in the left content menu, and check the properties, suddenly they read:
    Type: AVI Movie
    File Size: 1.1 MB
    Image Size: 320 x 240
    Frame Rate: 25.00
Source Audio Format: 11025 Hz - 16 bit - Mono
Project Audio Format: 11025 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Mono
    Total Duration: 00:00:36:15
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
Sure enough, I drag it into the sequence, listen to it, and it's indeed playing mono. Outside of Premiere, the original source file still reads and plays correctly with stereo sound.
When I import stereo WAVs and MP3s, it keeps the original stereo channels without me having to do anything special. I even just imported the same exact file as a MOV with stereo audio, and it showed up in Premiere as:
Source Audio Format: 44100 Hz - 16 bit - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 44100 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
What is going on here with AVIs? Am I doing something wrong? Are there settings I'm missing somewhere?
(And before anyone suggests I only use MOV in the future... that's not exactly the answer I'm looking for.)

    Thank you for that info.
For video, the codec is MPEG-4 Video (XVID) and for audio it says MPEG Audio Layer 1/2/3 (mpga).
There are two issues with that file:
The first is the Xvid CODEC (not meant for editing), and then the MPEG Audio/MPGA. I would convert that file, to something that is more editable.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Audio stereo signal split into 3 or 4 stereo audio signals (in one single clip)?

    Hi,
facing massice transcoding issues when exporting a project I had to analyse the involved video/audioclips...
and found out that for some of the video clips the audio signals have been split into even 3 or 4 complementary stereo channels.
Note: Each channel contains just a part of the original signal. This is obviously due to cutting action ...
What can I do? I have no clue!
    My question:
How to get one single stereo audio signal (2 channels) out of this mess?
    Thanx big time,
    Oliver

Assuming we're talking about shorter takes and not a longer, spanned clip, I don't think what you want can be done in PP.  Nesting will always bring the audio over as one track.
You may have to skim the clip sequence in the Program Monitor and copy/paste the portions you want to use into a second sequence for output.  This will preserve the audio.

  • G510 Dolby Digital Plus Advanced Audio doesnt work driver problem with Windows 8.1

    Hi,
    my Lenovo G510 has Windows 8.1 64-bit.
In the system menue of Hardware and Sound I can see two entries:
    1) Dolby Digital Plus Advanced Audio
    2) Dolby Digital Plus Advanced Audio (32-bit)
Clicking on the first entry a control panel appears. Does this mean that Dolby Digital Plus Advanced Audio is always running in the backround? There is no entry in the systray.
Clicking on the second entry this error message appears:
Your current installed version is 7.3.2.2 of the Dolby Digital Plus audio driver. The software needs the driver version 7.5.1.1. Installe a correct combination of driver and software.
What to do with this? I searched for a solution and drivers but couldn´t find anything.

  • Stereo audio works only in FCE

I know this has been covered before but I would like some help to get from where I am now, out of the hole I seem to have dug.
Briefly, VHS video with HiFI stereo audio was converted with a Sony DCR TRV355 camera to DVPAL 720x576. Audio 16Bit 48Khz. Firewire cable plugged into the MAC running FCE4 and captured using 'capture now'. So far so good. I drag the clip to the timeline and the two audio tracks and the video track appear. The three names are all underlined. The two audio tracks are linked (the two arrows point to each other like an hour glass where the two tracks touch). The audio plays in stereo. I do nothing to this file, and quit FCE. Now, if I play that untouched captured file on a MAC or PC, in Quicktime, Windows Media Player, FLV whatever, the audio is mono, not stereo. Possibly only one leg of the stereo pair, or possibly left and right summed to mono, it's not easy to tell.
So I have two questions really:
One (not relevant to this problem as I cannot recapture the clip), what do I need to do differently next time to avoid this incompatibiliy?
Two, how do I get from here to being able to play the .mov file in any player in stereo, without degrading the picture? Thanks in advance.

... VHS video with HiFI stereo audio was converted with a Sony DCR TRV355 camera to DVPAL 720x576. Audio 16Bit 48Khz. Firewire cable plugged into the MAC running FCE4 and captured using 'capture now'.
This should have worked fine.  A few questions -
Did you use the TRV355 as a converter between your VHS deck and your Mac, or did you record the VHS video to a tape in your TRV355 ... and later use FCE to capture from the TRV355 tape?
What Easy Setup did you use in FCE when you captured this video?
Exactly what versions of FCE, OS X and QuickTime are on the Mac you used to capture the video?  Do you have QuickTime7 installed on this Mac?
Did you experience the "mono problem" playing the captured clip on the same Mac you used to capture the video, or did the problem appear on a different Mac?
When you experienced the "mono problem" were you playing the captured clip in  QuickTime X or QuickTime 7?
For what it's worth, I have observed that if I play a video clip in QuickTime X that was captured on a Mac with FCE/QuickTime 7, for some inexplicable reason QT X does not fully recognize all the tracks in the clip.  Mostly it thinks the clips are audio only, no video; but if I play the clip in QT7 it plays fine.

  • Stereo Audio Linking issue

I have recently moved to FCP from FCE...I am having a problem linking a stereo audio file, I want to edit audio without effecting video in timeline. When I unlink, the audio file acts as two mono files, so I have two do repeat edits. If I link, then the video is in the edit. I want unlink audio/video, but treat stereo audio file as one edit...does this make sense to anyone?
This was easy in FCE, by default it acted the way I want. I'm sure I have a setting incorrect...IDEAS?

You don't have to Unlimk your dual mono clips.
If you want to cut or ripple or slide or whatever, just hold the Option Key and then drag the head or tail of the video part of the clip. It will then only move the videopart...
Or press that button on the top-right corner of the timeline (or Shift L). It toggles the usage of linking on and off (by default there are 2 buttons there. The other one is 'snapping' ('n' on your keyboard))

  • Stereo Audio channel turns to mono when I close and re-open the project

    Hi there,
when I import a random video file with stereo audio channels and put it to the timeline (after peaking), everything works allright - the recording level window shows me the left and the right audio channel.
But when I save and close the project in order to re-open it directly, I only got a mono audio channel (left) and the stereo is away in my timeline and recording level window. The preview of the imported video ist still ok with stereo sound.
Is this a bug ? What can do? Please help me.
    Thanks a lot

  • Stereo audio when using video camera?  Any way to do this?

Is there any way to record in stereo (2 mics) when recording video with the onboard camera? Can the 30-pin connector receive a stereo signal when videoing?  (iPad3, iOS 7)

I figured it out myself so thought I'd share this for anyone else who wants to record video with the audio portion in stereo, you can do this using Sonoma Wireworks' GuitarJack2 in conjunction with a mixer.  Keep in mind this isn't a portable solution at all but the resulting audio is excellent, especially in headphones so this is great for doing a video of yourself singing and playing guitar (for example) and you want to capture a good stereo audio signal.  Basically, the way is works is you plug your two mics (we're talking recording style microphones with the XLR connectors) into your mixer of choice.  You then run a line out of the mixer into the 1/8" audio input jack of the GuitarJack 2 (it's a stereo line-in) and the 30-pin connector goes into your iPhone/iPad.  There are a couple of settings you have to make with the software for the GuitarJack but once you've done that, you can then make some videos with terrific stereo sound.  You monitor the audio via the headphone jack of your mixer.  If anyone knows an easier way to do the same thing, please let me know but this is the only way I've found.

  • Stereo audio rendering as mono

My husband and I recently purchased a MacBook Pro last November, recently installed Final Cut Pro 5 on it 2 months ago, and now we're experiencing audio problems we've never encountered before.
Fresh new project, new timeline, import a stereo audio file, double click and playing from the viewer it's perfectly fine, but put it on the timeline, shows up on two separate tracks and needs rendering, we render it and it turns into mono. It didn't do this before, we don't know what we changed, it used to work but now it doesn't. We must have changed something but we can't figure out what we did wrong. Even if we separate the stereo track into two mono tracks on the timeline, pan one left and the other right, it remains mono.
Please help, we're completely stumped on this one! Thanks!

The only problem with converting the audio files to 48 is that we have about 200+ audio files, living on about 17 layers, each with their own settings for speed and reverse and eq and more. Going back to reimport all that stuff would kill our deadline by about 40 hours = not possible.
But I did download that utility you suggested, it discarded our prefs, and now everything seems to be better. I'm having to "fool" FCP by placing an EQ filter set for 0 gain (i.e. no change) onto each clip, which trashes the render file, and when it rerenders it's ok, sometimes. For the ones that aren't changing out of mono I go back in and throw away that eq filter and re-render and then it's in stereo. Very strange. Also strange is that some of these animation clips now have 1 frame of black at the tail end before cutting to the next clip - very odd since the original files have NO black at all.
    Something very strange happened.

  • Stereo Audio Treated Separately, How Do I Link?

I recently migrated from FCE to FCP. I love FCP, but there's one difference that's bugging me. In FCE, when you selected and manipulated a stereo audio track, each channel was linked, so when you changed the db level or applied a pen point to one track, the same would be done to the other. In FCP each audio channel is treated separately, so I'd have to repeat the same process for both channels. Is there an option or hotkey to make each audio channel linked like in FCE?

You can also use command/apple L to link/unlink the stereo pairs or individual audio tracks to video.

  • Stereo audio switching to mono

I have a slightly curious problem. I have been working on a couple of projects recently where the stereo audio files (which are music) keep on switching to mono. If I reconnect the audio files, they return to stereo playback, but only for a short while. The playback always flips back into mono.
Has anyone experienced anything like this, and/or know how to fix it?
    Many thanks!
    Tim

    Hi Andy,
I am working on a mono timeline. I've just noticed another feature of my little quirk; The stereo tracks don't necessarily comletely turn to mono. On my current timeline, I have a couple of music tracks, where a portion has turned to mono, which is marked with a blue line at the top of the audio file, and a portion which is still stereo, marked with a green line at the top of the file.
They are linked as stereo pairs, with the panning set to -1, +1
    Does this make sense?
