5.1 Preferences/Cookies and Private Browsing gone haywire - BACKWARDS

There is something gone wrong, all haywire with the new version of Safari at 5.1.  The Cookies settings in the Prefs has "Block" settings, and I have it set at "ALWAYS" and yet it allows for me to sign in to any webpage with my name and password, whereas before I couldn't. At the same time, if I use "Private Browsing" and set that, it actually blocks my Cookies!!!! whereas before all it did was not remember History.   Somebody messed up the programming and got this one completely backwards, this should be the other way around.
Cookies set to ALWAYS should block all cookies and Private Browsing should not block cookies just not remember history.
This is a major blunder. Needs immediate update fix, please.

1. There are other threads on this issue
2. At least for me, the forums are not letting me 'reply' to posts, I am getting past this by going to 'advanced' and posting from there.

  • Save all the cookies and web browser history...

Is there a program that can save all the cookies and web browser history for imac.
all the pages my kids will visit. on the internet

as I told you, turn on parental controls on their accounts. then you can control which sites they are allowed to visit and parental controls also save a log of every site they visit. your kids won't be able to delete that log. only an admin user can do that.
parental controls are turned on in system preferences->parental controls.

  • Updated Safari 5.1 and private browsing not working properly

I updated my Safari 5.1 last week and was testing the different functions.  When I go into private browsing it will keep some web pages private but not others, they show up on my history file/page.  I can not find the "new" location for deleting cookies in the preference section.  Is anyone else experiencing these problems?
    Thanks!

    Thanks Carolyn,
I removed all website data, put my browser on privacy and it still records certain websites I visited and shows up on the history page.  Is there a problem when I updated Safari last week.  I didn't have this issue before the update.
    Thanks!

  • Safari and Private Browsing

Is there a way to turn on private browsing permanently? I check my bank account every few days because I make a lot of transactions. It's annoying to have to click Private Browsing and then OK every time I do it. Clearly, Safari doesn't have a built in feature for permanent private browsing. Can I automate it somehow? How so?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the private browsing only hide your actions from another person who may have physical contact to your computer and your user account? It doesn't actually provide a higher level of security while you're browsing the web. It doesn't affect any data or packets going in/out of your network connection, it just hides your history from prying eyes... This is the information that is not recorded (from Safari Help):
    ■ Webpages are not added to the history list.
    ■ The Downloads window is cleared so the name of anything you downloaded won’t appear in the list. (To get rid of the downloaded item itself, you must delete it.)
    ■ Information isn’t saved for AutoFill, including names and passwords.
    ■ Searches are not added to the pop-up menu in the Google search field.
    ■ Cookies are deleted.
But anyone on your network could still "sniff" your packets if that's what you're concerned about.
You might consider searching or posting in the Safari forum since your question isn't really tied to the hardware of your MacBook.

  • Reset Safari and private browsing

Is the "resent safari" command simply making the browser as if you had started the session with the private browsing? What differences are there between the two?

    Hi,
Is the "reset safari" command simply making the browser as if you had started the session with the private browsing?
    Yes.
What differences are there between the two?
When you perform a full reset of Safari you lose all your cookies, saved autofill information, history information and usernames/passwords. Bar keeping your bookmarks, it's as if you had never used Safari.
With Private Browsing, you only lose the information since the initiation of the private browsing session. So, your history for example from prior the private browsing session is still available.

  • Accepting cookies during private browsing

According to Danish internet legislation, you are always prompted to accept or decline cookies whenever you visit a website. These cookies may be from the website itself, or they may be third party cookies.
Normally my Firefox browser is set to 'Never remember history' in the privacy options, but what happens if I accept cookies from a website during private browsing, or simply with the privacy options set to 'Never remember history' ?
Will the Firefox browser then save cookies ?
    Thank you in advance

Yes. Cookie exceptions should work in Private Browsing mode just like in normal mode and you should be able to create an allow or block exception that persists.
You can inspect and manage permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab via these steps:
*Click the "[[Site Identity Button|Site Identity Button]]" (globe/padlock) on the location/address bar
*Click "More Information" to open "Tools > Page Info" with the Security tab selected
*Go to the Permissions tab (Tools > Page Info > Permissions) to check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab
Note that you won't be able to view (inspect) cookies in the Cookie Manager while in PB mode.

  • Mountain Lion - Safari 6 and Private Browsing

    Safari 6 - Mountain Lion.
If I enable Private Browsing, I am not able to read a new page.
To do an example: If I have active yahoo page and I try to resume an other internet page (i.e. repubblica) from top sites page, the address change, but no refresh graphically and safari become not usable... I think is a Safari mngt cache bug. Please fix it. The issue is easily reproducible.

Probably, I found the solution. I had an extension in Safari enable (Clicktoflash version 2.6.2) that generated the issue.
Disabled the extension, it seems work correctly. I noticed that there is an update of this extesion (2.6.9).
I must try the new version.

  • Clear history and private browsing is stuck in gray

stop private browsing and clear history are stuck in gray and not responding when I click on them

You have turned on Permanent Private Browsing mode which makes those options grey so you don't accidentally turn it off.
Fortunately, there is a easy way to turn it off.
Click the Firefox button > Options > Options > Privacy tab then uncheck '''Permanent Private Browsing''' and click OK.
Or, if you don't have the orange Firefox button: <br>
Tools > Options > Privacy tab then uncheck '''Permanent Private Browsing''' and click OK.

  • IPod Music and Album Art gone haywire after restore/updates/sync

    First post !
Since my PC (Win7Pro 64bit) had SP1 installed, iPod Touch (2G) is going nuts. Sent to Apple - latest OS and iTunes (64bit)installed and all OK they said - but now when syncing from iTunes,Album Artwork is gobble-de-gook and some music jumps to next song part way (1/2) through playing. Some tracks have wrong names and some have no artwork at all.
Have restored (as per Apple Cust.Support) and tried to resync but still all over the place. Still under warranty but they found no fault at Service.
Easy to blame M/Soft but every other thing attached works fine (Nokia,Samsung,Logitech, etc.) Any ideas or help would be appreciated. Thankyou.

did you ever find a resolution to this? i have almost the same issue on my iPhone. thanks

  • For settings, under private browsing, what is the difference between enbling and disabling cookies, aren't they going to be deleted anyway?

under private browsing, browsing history, cookies and etc will be deleted after private browsing is over.
however, for settings of privacy we can set private browsing as default. there are still some options below that we can choose to accept cookies from sites. does it make any sense? cookies are going to be deleted anyway after private browsing is over.
can anyone expain this to me?
    appreciate it!

Cookies in Private Browsing work just like in normal mode, so you can still set allow and block exceptions for domains and disable third-party cookies.<br />
Only cookies aren't saved to disk in cookies.sqlite and they expire if you end the Private Browsing session, so all cookies are effectively session cookies.

  • Private Browsing & Cookies - Safari 3.0.4 on Leopard 10.5.1

FYI: turning on private browsing automatically changes the cookies security setting.
    For example:
If cookies are set to 'never' and then private browsing is enabled; then cookies will change to 'only from sites you navigate to'.
If cookies are set to 'only from sites you navigate to' and private browsing is enabled; then cookies will change to 'never'.
When private browsing is disable the cookies setting changes back to the original setting.
I have confirmed this on two 10.5.1 systems.
This doesn't seem right. Private Browsing shouldn't be changing security sittings? I don't believe things worked this way on 10.4.x and Safari 2, someone please correct me if I am wrong.

I had this problem as well.
First: In Safari go into preferences and select the "security" tab. Uncheck "Enable Plug-ins"
This fixed a lot of bugs for me !
Second: If that worked than you just need to go to Hard Drive/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
There should be a folder there that is called "Disabled Plug-Ins" I just put all of the plug-ins in that folder, went back and rechecked " Enable Plug-Ins" in Safari preferences, and then one by one added plug-ins back out of the disabled folder while reloading a web page that caused problems before. After some trial & error I think I have a setup that works for now. Hope this helps!! Also as of now I have installed all software updates. My mac has been doing this for a while. Logging out & back in reset safari back to where it was useable.
I have not had problems with any other programs.

  • My E pad has stopped directing me to my att/yahoo e mail. It gives me a notice that i must go to Settings, Safrai and turn off Private Browsing. I have tried for 2 days to find private browsing on my safrai site, and it is just not there.

Forsome reason, after two years, my E Pad is refusing to go to my att.Yahoo e mail...It says to go to Settings Safari Private Browsing and turn off Private Browsing. There is not place on the Safrari page that gives me Private Browsing. It explains it as being dark when turned on, but no place to turn it on or off.  Also it seems to go to Yahoo Mail instead of Att..Yahoo when it gives me the above message....Any One know what todo?

As of iOS 7, private browsing is not longer handled in the Settings app, but in Safari directly. The only Settings function for Safari that may impact this would be Block cookies.
Private browsing is turned on and off in Safari using the button in teh lower left of the Safari screen (if you do not see this, tap the + icon in the upper right to pull up an empty tab).

  • Per window private browsing not working, still sharing cookies

Firefox 21, per window private browsing not working. The cookies are still shared among private browsing windows and tabs. Even with private tab addon, still not working.
If I log into google in one tab, I am still logged in with that account in new private tabs and private windows.

One more question about cookies in private browsing mode.
I don't like browse a web using usual mode 'cause I don't like tonns of sites in a history. But when I start with private mode every time I get empty set of cookies and this was not quite good for me 'cause some sites store its options needed for me. In a prev. versions of FF I solved this issue in such a way: I stored some cookies in a file and every time I started private browsing I loaded them from file. But now this method gives nothing: in cookies manager all set of "non private" cookies is shown both before importing and after importing them from a file and I need to reconfigure my sites every time I start private browsing.
    I'm sorry for my English.

  • Need to disable Private Window/Private Browsing on our work computers, both mac and pc?

I support both macs and pcs with version 26 of firefox on all machines. I need to disable private window and private browsing, including the keyboard shortcuts.

    Thank you for the info.
I did run across in my searching another way to disable by creating a txt file (userChrome.ccs) with this code, minus the first sentence: (Open the file on any text editor. Copy and paste the following lines after @namespace
/* Hide Private Browsing in App menu and Tools menu */
    #appmenu_privateBrowsing, #privateBrowsingItem {display:none!important;}
/* Hide Sanitize item in App menu and Tools menu */
    #appmenu_sanitizeHistory, #sanitizeSeparator, #sanitizeItem {display:none!important;}
I need to try it on my mac before I implement it on other macs and the pcs. The directory placement area was a little vag so I tried it here.
    I placed the file in: HD/Users/{me}/Library/Application Support/Firefox/chrome
    restarted firefox. Did not work.
Does any one know if the above into is correct and if I placed it in the correct area on the mac?
This is the info I got to place the same file on the pc:
    C:\\Users\\[User]\\AppData\\Roaming\\Mozilla\\Firefox\\Profiles\\[random string].default\\chrome\\
Does anyone know if this is correct? I can not test this until after hours on the pc.
Thank you again! I really tried to do the research before I posted the question.
