5.1 sound on Envy 17t 3200 3D?

Before ordering an HP agent said the unit would support 5.1 sound using my existing speakers with 3.5mm mini-plugs for front, center/sub and rear channels.  Now that I have the unit I see only 2 audio in 3.5mm jacks and the driver does not have a 5.1 option.  In my old laptop the driver allowed my to re-purpose the microphone jack as a third audio-in.
So, my question is can I get 5.1 or only 2.1?  Is there a different driver other than the current?  Or do I need to buy an adapter or something?

Now I just found out my steam game, NBA 2K14 won't work using switchable graphics  I was using windows 8 with nba2k14 with switchable graphics and set to high performance and the game played smoothly but after I installed windows 8.1 now my NBA2k14 still plays but in low graphics (power saving) and if I set switcable graphics to high performance I only get a black screen with audio gameplay in the background. Need help! I downloaded the latest drivers in the HP support website, Released:2012-10-18 File name: SP58812.exe [1/1, 298.3M] Version8.982.6.0 Compatibility:Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit) I'm hoping an updated driver comes out soon for Windows 8.1. • Sound not working on my HP ENVY 17t-3200 CTO 3D Edition Notebook PC. Help!

My laptop recently installed 20 or so Microsoft updates when I last restarted. Now, there is no sound coming out of the speakers or headphones even though the system shows that it should be functioning properly. It seems like a number of people are having this problem as well and I see a potential solution for Windows 8. I, however, am running Windows 7. All the troubleshooting efforts so far have not been successful. Can anyone offer a solution? Thank you in advance.

I had a similar problem with my audio not working after the update. I tried the link advised below http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows/no-sound-help#no-sound=windows-7&v1h=win8tab1&v2h=win7tab1&v3h=winvistatab1&v4h=winxptab1   and opted for step 2 - Use a troubleshooter since I was pretty certain step 1 was not the case. I clicked on the audio troubleshooter link. Clicked next and next again to reveal which of the devices I wanted to troubleshoot. I left the clicked default radio button (Speakers and headphones-IDT high definition audio codec). Clicked next. It noticed that it was not set as the default. It suggested that I fix by accepting as default. And vooala! It worked......

  • Very poor wireless reception on HP Envy 17t-j000

So I just recently got a  HP Envy 17t-j000 quad edition (Windows 8), which seems to be having some wifi issues
I opted for the cheaper non-bluetooth adapter, the Realtek RTL8188EE, which at present seems to have almost zero documentation on the internet. The Realtek website doesn't even show any record of it!
Anyways, here's the problem: I'm getting very poor reception with it, to the point where one of my two wireless routers has only very intermittent and horrendously slow connectivity, and the other will work a room away but no further (and also sometimes drops too, but less frequently). Outside of this range, I can still see these networks, but cannot always connect. If I do manage to connect, it will show a strong signal (4-5 out of 5 bars) but will never actually load anything. In fact, though I'm not sure this is relevant or not, I have never seen any networks with less than 3 out of 5 bars for signal strength.
Meanwhile, a number of other devices work at a much larger range and without dropping the connection as this computer does. This includes a year old HP (I forget the model) and a five year old Acer. The speed on my faster router doesn't appear to be very different between the HP Envy and the other two.
    I have:
    * Done a number of restarts of the network modem and both wireless routers
    * Verified that the driver on the wireless adapter is up to date and reinstalled it
    * Checked to make sure there are  no antivirus/firewall/other programs systems that could be interfering
So, does this sound like a just a crappy wireless adapter or could this be some sort of software issue or defective hardware? Also, if I were to just replace this with another wireless card, what sort of things do I need to be concerned with in order to make sure the replacement is compatible with the system?

    OK Boys & Girls - - here's what I did - -
First - the Envy X2 is having similar problems - but my laptop is the 17t-j000 quad
so this IS the correct thread - -
I used the HP support assistant - - it installed an updated BIOS -
The WiFi still shuts down at 8 - 10 min watching Netflix (no mouse or user inputs - Max signal strength indicated)
    {Yes - I have disabled allowing the machine to turn off power to the WiFi card in the driver section}
Loaded the Softpaq mentioned above (quoted below) - - 200MB - had to be SOMETHING in there ??
It loaded without a problem - - strange thing is - the Intel Driver date stayed the same: 9/17/2012
Tried the WiFi - - still shuts down at 8 - 10 min
Went back to HP Support Assistant - -
    NOW it says - - I need a new WiFi package ?!?
    So - I download and installed THAT - -
Back to Netflix - - and so far - has been NO SHUTDOWN ?!?
2 episodes watched - still connected - fingers crossed
Your mileage may vary - -
    Hi,
Download the Softpaq sp63183 from the below FTP link which should resolve these issues.

I have recently purchased a HP Envy 17T Quad Laptop (non-touch) .  The computer comes with Windows 8.1 OS.  I would like to use Windows 7 instead.  Do you have a preconfigured disc that will work on my computer for Windows 7?  I haven't used the computer yet, so if this isn't available I may need to return it and purchase something else that I can get Windows 7 for.

hello, I purchased my laptop over the phone from here less than 2 months ago, I have just noticed that my front left speaker "on the bottom front left of the laptop" has a crackling sound/static is this a blown speaker or what could it be? Do I need to have it shipped in and serviced? I have my laptop connected to HDMI 90% of the time, and is used for web browsing / imaging.

  • TriDef 3D can't recognize 3D Monitor on HP ENVY 17t-3000 CTO Notebook PC

Is there a Monitor driver for the  HP ENVY 17t-3000 CTO Notebook PC?  when trying to run the 14-day trial version of TriDef3D 6.3, it says
Please connect to a 3D compatible display (00300136)
When checking the driver for the monitor, it says Generic PNP Monitor.  I can't find a driver for it.
I am running the latest display driver from HP.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-114562-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
I have been trying to use the drivers from the AMD website in order to get the support for the latest games, but it does not accurately detect the correct video card chip and installs the wrong driver.
I have a Radeon (TM) HD 7690M XT according to Device Manager when using the HP driver.
Your ideas of how to resolve these issues are much appreciated.
Update:  I opened it and figured out the monitor model number:
    LP173WF1(TL)(B4)
None selling this screen model is touting 3D, just Full HD.  Looks like the fellow who sold it to me was also duped into believing he was buying a 3D model online, but was sold a 2D model.  He didn't know how to use the 3D anyway (difficulty level with TriDef is advanced) so never tested or viewed 3D on this laptop.
Would it be possible to swap this screen with a 3D model on this machine?

    Hi @WingedPaladin,
    Thank you for your information.
When I did some searching with the serial number, I was unable to display any additional information.  which usually means that because it is a CTO model that the information has not been entered into our system.
However the product number did provide that it was  a refurbished unit.
I know you stated you had a difficultly opening the notebook to check the motherboard for the 50 pin connection.   The maintnenace  guide should have a  section on removals.  If you were unsuccessful I would try again.
Another thing to check is the properties of the graphic card installed, as it would also need to support 3D.
You may wish to contact HP support for assistance, as they can remotely access your system to be able to check things out.

  • Need to get graphics to work on HP Envy 17t-3000 CTO

Please bear with me. I'm not very tech savvy but am great at following directions to solve problems.
I received a used HP Envy 17t-3000 CTO laptop with 750 GB...i7 - 2670 QM...6GB...64 Bit. with no restore on it to get back to original config.
I received it updated to Windows 8.1 Pro which didn't allow video drivers to work (Intel HDGraphics 3000 and AMD 7690M XT switchable graphics).
I installed Windows 7 Home Premium back on it (originally on it when made) from an ISO download on line.
My problem is that I need to know exactly what drivers in which order to download on top of Win 7 install to get switchable graphics display to work as it's still not working with 8.1 Pro removed. I currently have a black screen and only see the screen with HDMI connected to the tv.
I need to be sure I am downloading all the needed drivers for it to work properly ASAP as I have a time limit to return it if that isn't the problem / isn't fixable / is a hardware problem.
I really want to keep it if it is fixable with correct driver installations and I don't have time to order restore disc from HP before my return window is closed.
So, can someone please help me and list the drivers in order of installation for my laptop?
    Thanks!
PS: When I reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium from my burned ISO file does that remove all the drivers I tried to install before that aren't working? If not...how do I do that? I want to start over beginning with the Win 7 install followed by the correct drivers in correct order....back to original config.

  • Where are the left and right action buttons on the touchpad on the HP ENVY 17t Quad TouchSmart

My new HP ENVY 17t Quad TouchSmart laptop has a touchpad, but no left or right action buttons.  How do I simulate their action.  Apparently a single tap simulates a left click, but how do I get a right click?  How do I drag a cell in a spreadsheet (to copy it) using the touchpad?  I may have to end up using a mouse.

  • HP Envy 17t-100 quad

I just spent 60 minutes of my life online with tech support trying to get bluetooth to work on my brand spanking new laptop which by the way I upgraded with a faster processor, better display, larger hard drive and more ram.  The first tech told me after 35 minutes to google the problem.  I told him that is why I called him, I tried google for over an hour trying to solve/figure out what the problem was myself.  This included using HP support website.  I then asked to speak to his supervisor, 20 minutes later I was able to speak to Luie.  After taking my serial number and model number, which I had already given to the previous tech, he put me on hold.  When he came back he told me that my computer was not configured for bluetooth.  When I told him that I wanted to send it back I was put on hold again while he checked to see if there was one they could send me.  He came back and said they only had a 15" that could ship tomorrow.  I declined.  While I was on hold I did find where bluetooth is a $10 option.  Really?!  I pay extra for a souped up laptop and they leave this out?  I guess I'm behind the times, but when doesn't a computer have bluetooth capabiltites?!  I asked for the supervisor to have his supervisor call me in the morning. He said he would try,  I won't hold my breath.

    Hi,
Many machines do not have BT even new one. Remember few years back, I had to add BT modul and it was only $7.80 at that time. Back to your machine, I don't know. But the following specs is the machine which I'm using now, it's only 5 days old and it does not have BT:

  • Envy 17t recovery

new envy 17t, well refurbished.  first, I delete a lot of the crapware.  I have about 40GB on a Win install that I need.  good.  now, I need to move to an SSD.  (why would anyone still use an HDD on a nice notebook?  beats me.)
I first try Paragon OS hard drive manager migration.  no dice.  ok, not recommended, and possibly Paragon's fault.
so I go for the HP app route, slow.
First, I create a recovery USB on my 128GB stick.  it warns me that I am only allowed 1 copy.  ok.  I create it.  then, I swap the SSD for the HDD, insert the USB, and start the "complete erase and recover to factory" choice.
the stage 1 works nicely.  it boots the stick and writes all sorts of stuff.  then it tells me that it needs to restart a few times to finish, which is normal.  (it forgets to tell me to uninsert the stick, 'cause it ain't smart enough to realize that it has already started, but this is ok.)  I let it go.  altogether, about half an hour into the process and after a few reboots (and I did the half-hour procedure repeatedly), I get a message that it failed.  lovely.
In the log, it tells me that it detects some error during PININST_BBV, followed by a few more recommendations of what files to save.  I cannot scroll up, so I don't know more about what the error really was.  It's a USB stick that was just written by the OS, so it is highly unlikely that it is correct.  (Well, I would hope that they check the integrity of a recovery file when they write it.  In any case, this is a good USB flash, used before, and it would seem highly unlikely that its hardware went bad.)  this should be even more so the case, because they should record that I have used up my 1 unit after they have successfully built the recovery medium, not before.
so, now I want to save the log file.  I insert a new USB stick (and I know that it sees it, because if I insert an ext4 USB stick, it knows to complain that there is not 2MB available), and save.  It tells me it saved to E:\HP_RM_LOG.CAB.  I shut down and look at the stick on my OSX computer---no dice.  there is no HP_RM_LOG.CAB file.  really?!  really!
I wish I could create another recovery disk, but this is of course not possible, because HP told me that they would allow me only one.
what exactly is going on here?  the HP software seems rather amateurish.

Can I install a mSATA ssd in my HP ENVY 17t-k000 CTO Notebook PC? Added a 250 gb SATA sdd and 8 gb memory chip today but could not find any way to also add a 250 gb mSATA sdd. I looked on the front and back side of the system board.
Should I return the Samsung 840 EVO mSATA SSD I bought from Newegg?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The Service Manual is no help whatsoever. It says an M.2 mSSD is supported on "select models" but there is no picture of it in the Manual or indication where it is on the "Select Models". Those that do have it use an M.2 version (three connector prongs not 2) so your 840 Evo would not work even if you had one of the "Select Models". I believe on those that have it the M.2 port is right on the motherboard so if you do not see it there you are not among the select.

  • Envy 17t J000 - Maximum Hard Drive Size and speed

I going to place a 2nd hard drive in the open space in my Envy 17t-j000.
    The Maintenance and Service Guide states;
Hard drives Supports 6.35-cm (2.5-in) hard drives in 9.5-mm (.37-in) and 7.0-mm (.28-in) thicknesses (all hard drives use the same bracket)
    Customer-accessible
    Serial ATA
    Supports the following hard drives:
    ● 1-TB 5400-rpm, 9.5-mm
    ● 750-GB 5400-rpm 9.5-mm
    ● 500-GB 5400-rpm 9.5-mm and 7.0-mm
    Dual hard-drive configurations:
    ● 2TB: (1-TB 5400-rpm x 2)
    ● 1500GB: (750-GB 5400-rpm x 2)
This seems to mean that I cannot use a single 2 TB 2nd drive and cannot use a 7200 RPM drive.
Is this correct? Doesthe bios not allow a larger than a 1 TB drive or the 7200 RPM?
CouldI simply partition the 2nd drive into 2 - 1TB?
Or does the manual simply mean that the standard HP unit is not supplied with larger than these sizes and I could actually use a 2 TB in the 2nd bay?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

It is the latter....the list just says what HP has to sell: it does not describe a system limitation. However, I do not believe the market yet offers a 2 TB drive that will fit in the space available. The 2 TB 2.5 inch SATA drives I have seen are too thick. 7200 rpm or hybrid or SSD; not a problem.
To add a second drive you will need a second hard drive caddy and cable.

  • Envy 17t: slow as molasses. just boot and clone, please

I recently purchased an Envy 17t, 1080 IPS screen, i7 quad 8GB RAM. This should be a dream desktop replacement.
Alas, it is so bad and unusable that I even decided to type this short experience description on a different computer.  I wanted to write it in a text editor. so, I searched windows for "text" and "edit", but no installed app shows up that would seem to allow me to create a simple text document. (instead, it did try to upsell me to buy some apps to do this.) fear not: Microsoft Office is on the home screen. clicking on it gets me to another "up-sell" suggestion to purchase the real version. Does Windows really make creating simple documents difficult?
But this is only the beginning. I could fix this. I could install some app to edit text. It's just indicative.
The real problem is that the envy 17t is slow. real slow. My $200 chromebook is faster. This is not the fault of the processor, the RAM, or Windows. It is the fault of the hard disk. The device does not ship with an SSD. I knew this. Well, this is a standard notebook computer, so I should be able to replace the internal HD with an SSD.
This should be easy. I back up the HD to a USB stick and then restore it to an SSD. I would need to do this if the hard drive went bad, too. Using the built-in backup utility to build a recovery medium to USB, I am informed that this is only allowed once. OK. This would not be so bad, except that the backup process stopped itself with some undecipherable error message far into the process. At this point, I can no longer backup and I have no external backup. I can also not try this again.
I then tried a variety of third-party tools. None succeeded in creating a bootable Window clone that I can replace the standard boot drive with. There is something peculiar about this computer. Inspecting the boot drive with the Paragon Hard Disk Manager tells me that this computer does not use ordinary UEFI partition schemes. There are two (!) service partitions (WINRE partition, folowed by a No Name partition), followed by a Local Disk of 128MB, followed by a large Windows partition, followed by a recovery partition. Somehow, there is software that makes it impossible to clone this into a bootable SSD, using any of about 20 tools that I have used in the past on other computers.
So, I now have a new 17-inch high-end notebook that is about the half the speed of my $200 chromebook.
But I had another idea. My next attempt was to install the SSD into the second drive bay, so I could just boot from it. At least it has a text editor, even though it canot use the blu-ray. Heck, I can at least install linux on the SSD. No dice. It can boot linux from an external USB key, but the UEFI BIOS (F10) cannot boot the drive from its second internal SATA drive bay. Really. It is a standard SATA slot, but the BIOS cannot boot from it. (This is also not a "legacy boot" issue in the BIOS.) It's just that this is designed not to work.
Oh...I have a fix. I can hit escape fast enough, then I can choose F9 and then ubuntu from the second drive. I just cannot save it in the BIOS.
Let me get this right: I now have a notebook computer which is about half the speed as a chromebook in its normal OS, exists primarily to upsell me software, and that is incapable of either making a backup of itself or booting by default from its second drive. The only thing that the engineers at HP seem to have invested time in is to make it difficult to replace the hard drive with an SSD. one has to work to make it so bad. it doesn't happen by itself.
I also don't have the time to hang for hours on support telephone lines to get a recovery medium.   There are computers that "just work."  This isn't it, though.
    -iaw
PS: Did I mention that double-clicking is not as reliable as on a macbook.

    Hi,
No comments for other points but Windows has at least 2 text editors (not perfect for big tasks) called Notepad and Wordpad. Notepad is a very simple "editor" but with Wordpad you can format text, nice and neat.
