5.1 Sound System with Satellite X200

Hi,
this is my first post here since up until now I've been able to solve all issues regarding my laptop. In the meantime, I acquired a 5.1 sound system to connect to my machine thinking it would be pretty straightforward due to all the technology implemented in this model and the SPIDF output and so on and so forth....well it wasn't :)
I've searched online for a solution but nothing obvious came up, and I've tried just sticking the sound system jacks everywhere just to experiment and see what I get but apparently there's always only 2 speakers working plus the bass.
Can anybody give me a hand?
Thanks in advance, best regards from Portugal
Bruno Belo

Boas!
The x200 sound system is a 2.1 system, so to have a 5.1 system you need an external decoder and bypass the internal system using the SPDIF output.
Did you really aquired a 5.1 sound system or just a 5.1 speaker system ? If is really a decoder you should have a digital input to plug the SPDIF output and configure it to play at least 4.1 with an stereo source, an mp3 for example.
If you only have a 5.1 speakers system(even digital) you'll need an 5.1 external sound card, some are USB interfaced others pcmcia.

  • I get only sound from left with 5.1 sound system on Satellite P100

    Hi!
    I have a P100-347 and a logitech 5.1 sound system.
The logitech 5.1 has 3 connection: 1 to be plugged to the Line-In, the other to be connected to the Line-out and the 3rd to be connected to the Microphone socket.
When using it on my desktop which has a random SIS sound card it works fine.
Yesterday I've connected it to the P100-347 but I only get sound from the Line-out socket. I have changed the sound preferences to 5.1 but it makes no difference... I only get sound from the Line-out. Is there any drivers update that I should do or is anyone aware of this and how can I fix it??
Just one more thing... With the laptop came this cd "Express Media Player Recovery CD", what is this? Is this something to be installed after runing the "Product Recovery CD" in order to install some drivers or whatever is in this cd comes with the Product Recovery CD as well? Does anyone knows?
    Thank you.

    Hi
There is no problem. As you said the notebook supports Line-in; headphone & S/PDIF jack and Microphone jack.
If you want to connect the HiFI or another device you have to choose the headphone & S/PDIF jack. Only this port provides the audio outputting.
The both another jacks provide only the function for signal (sound) receiving!
My notebook provides the same jacks and I have connected the notebook to HiFI (5 speakers) via Y-audio cable like this one:

  • 5.1 sound system with macbook pro

Hi I just got the Logitech Z-5500 sound system setup for my macbook pro. I'm trying to hook up the digital output using mini-toslink to toslink cable and digital coaxial audio cable.
However, my Logitech control screen says that it does not detect any digital data. Under my sound settings in system preferences, I can see the digital out. And when I go to Audio MIDI Setup--> Configure speakers, the 5.1 option is shaded out. It's the same when I select Encoded Digital Audio under the Audio Output.
Right now, my speakers can play sound but it's not 5.1 and there's no sound coming out of the center channel and the rear channels. The Macbook Pro should be able to automatically detect the 5.1 system shouldn't it? Or is there a problem with my digital output? Any help would be great. Thanks.

  • Sound problems with Satellite A100 (PSAA8)

I am continually having sound problems with the laptop. Whilst I hear the windows start up noise and beeps, I cannot hear any sound from things like CDs, iTunes, Media Player - in fact an error message will always come up. In Media Player the error message "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device......." comes up. I have a the standard pre-installed Realtek sound thing on my laptop. I have tried downloading a newer driver from the Toshiba support centre, but I don't know what to do with the zip file. Also in Control Panel, Sounds, everything is greyed-out.
Hope someone can help cos I am going nuts with this :-)
    Thanks

    Hi again
I have downloaded the Realtek sound driver from the Tosh page and unzipped it.
(I have chosen the driver for Vista!!! I suppose you use Vista???)
There is a folder called sound. Access this folder and run Setup.exe
But before you will start this procedure you could access the device manager (control panel -> computer -> device manager) and choose sound, video, and game controller. There you have to mark realtek AC and click on uninstall and reboot the unit.
After this sound driver removing you should start the new driver installation described above. (setup.exe)

  • Can I connect my Ipod Nano to my sound system with amplifier

Is it possible to connect my Ipod nano to my sound system which has an amplifier. If so any problem will occur to my ipod nano.

The usual way of doing this is to buy the universal dock, then use the line out jack on the dock to connect to your amp via a cable that has a mini jack (like the one on your headphones) at one end and 2 RCA phono plugs at the other end (to connect to line in sockets on your amp).
You can do this direct from the headphone socket on the iPod instead of buying the dock, but personally I don't think the sound quality is as good this way.

  • My experience with Satellite X200

    Hi everybody,
For those of you who are planning on upgrading your X200 laptops, here's an advice from own experience.
1 - Upgrade your RAM from the stock 2GB to 4Gb. I bought my 4Gb on Ebay for 57 euros.
You'll notice a REAL increase on your system's speed. Specially if you deal with large photos or video, like I do.
Windows Vista only recognizes 3 GB of Ram, but the remaining 1Gb will be reserved for your graphics card. You'll notice a much better graphics performance as I did. No image jumps and more fluid images using big resolutions and heavy settings.
2- Don't spend your money upgrading your 4.200 RPM HDD for a 7.200 unless you REALLY NEED IT.
My computer comes with a 300Gb 4.200 RPM HDD. I installed a 100 Gb 7.200 RPM Seagate Momentus and didn't find a dramatic speed increase, so went back to large drive.
    Cheers,
    Andre Antunes
    X200-1AA
    T7700 2,4Ghz CPU
    4Gb DDR2
    300Gb HDD 4.200 RPM
    8700 GT Graphics Card.

    Hi andre
Thanks for this advice. I really appreciate it.
Just a small comment regarding the point 1.
As far as I know the Vista recognizes only the 3GB of RAM because of the 32bit OS limitation. But Microsoft released an Vista SP1 Beta version.
Its a beta version and not fully tested but it should solve the issue with the 3GB RAM. After the SP1 installation the Vista should recognize 4GB.
    Best regards

  • Sound problems with Satellite L505D-S5965

I have a couple of problems with the sound on this laptop.
    1. Even when I have all the sound configurations I can find turned all the way up, the sound is still very quiet.  For most things that play sound the green meter bar only goes up about a 1/3 of the way to the max level.
    2.  When I plug in external speakers, I only get sound coming out of the right speaker.  The speakers are brand new and were tested on another computer and worked fine, but on my laptop, only one speaker works.

  • Video problem with Satellite X200-25G (PSPB9E)

    Hello
I'm having this laptop about a year, and I have this problem with Windows Vista (genuine), Windows XP (with modification with video driver). Video driver is newest without problems, except one.
I'm working with SolidWorks, and the problem is only in this product. You can see the problem, if you see this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi0gCJTJRrg . Some parts just go missing, even when is one part, just one of the wall of the part go missing (shows like mirror) I tested with any kind of this Product (SolidWorks 2008, 2009) Windows XP, Vista x32, but every time is the same.
Probably the problem is not in the product (SolidWorks), probably it is not in the software, driver and OS (because I tested with two version of nvidia genuine video driver without any problems of installation).
I'm almost sure, that the problem is in that, video card is not suitable with this product, even the purpose of the video is for multimedia and gaming, which is so close with the job which I do.
Can you give me some advice? Thanks in advance, and sorry about my English Skills

I believe that most people here after watching this video will not understand what your problem is.
In my opinion you should visit nearest Toshiba authorized service provider, put your notebook on the desk and explain exactly what kind of problems do you have.
Otherway if you have problems with third part software you should contact manufacturer and ask for help. They have best experience with own product and I believe they can help you about it.
Notebook manufacturer must offers best driver for built-in hardware and offer best graphic performance for usual every day work on this notebook model.
Toshiba and all other notebook manufacturers cannot test several thousand available products and check the graphic card performance.
    Try to contact SolidWorks support.
    Good luck.

  • Problem with Satellite X200 and keyboard to make @ with AltGR and 2

    Ok... Here is my problem.
I have Norwegian Vista, language set to norwegian, and us Ctrl+alt+2 or AltGr+2 to get @.
Now I cant make it work.
Nothing happens if I press those buttons and 2. Both buttons work.
    If I press AltGr+8 I get this: [
This happened after my last bios upgrade I think.
    Any ideas?
In the language toolbar at bottom language set to Norwegian.

Ok. After pressing all the buttons over and over again I have discovered this.
If I hold AltGr in and then press Alt I can use the 234 buttons to get to these items@£$,
but it should do this without having to press the alt button...
So this is what I have to do.
Hold AltGr and while holding altgr press Alt and still holding altgr press 2347890 depending on what sign I need.
    Really annoing.

  • P7800 Sound System |A speaker stopped working

My P7800 sound system with my Audigy 2 ZS is GREAT!!! I love it, but I have only had the system for day. I woke up today and tested it by going to speaker settings and clicking on the Noise button and it plays a tone through one speaker at a time. My right center speaker does not play a tone like it did yesturday. Could the speaker have already gone bad? I could not have blown it because I didnt even let the sound get to high...
Is this a known problem? I can put my ear right next to the speaker and hear it as if its waiting for the next sound, the other speakers to the same, just like any other speakers... so as far as i know the speaker not putting on sound is fine... maybe a sofware failure?

Lets just say i didnt plug somthing all the way in when i switched from headset to speakers today
    It works fine now...

  • What is the best way to hook up my Creative Labs Inspire 5.1 sound system to my new iMac?

We recently purchased a 27" iMac and want to use our Creative Labs Inspire 5.1 sound system with it.  How do we make this connection to get the most out of the sound system?

    BAgodmode wrote:
If I am not mistaken, your 5.1 came with 3 plugs that are meant to go into a regular PC. If that's the case, you should have received a Y like cable, that connects any none channeled sound source, like an iMac, and helps distribute it as 5.1. But they also make a curious USB device to help connect it.
    http://us.store.creative.com/Creative-Sound-Blaster-XFi-Surround-5.1/M/B0044DEDC A.htm
An outboard audio device, if you really want to get the max out of your 5.1.
Unfortunately that is a Windows only device:
    System Requirements
    Minimum System Requirements
Microsoft ® Windows ® 7, Windows Vista ®, Windows XP (Professional x64 Edition, Service Pack 2 or above)
    So it won't work.

    > i have surround sound only when i play *.acc files but with *.mp3 files it doesnt work
You'll have to enable surround matrix decoding for stereo material. There are several analog encoding standards (Dolby Surround, Dolby ProLogic, Dolby ProLogic II) but Creative's driver doesn't have an official decoder for any of them Instead, they provide their home-grown decoders and call them CMSS or DTS NEO:6. I can only assume they want to dodge Dolby's license payments by not supporting familiar standards. Anyway, you will find the CMSS modes in the driver or, in case of NEO, in their mediasource player. NEO - because it's in a player and not in the driver - is out of reach for other players such as WinAmp or multimedia and TV software.
If you plan to listen to music only, the Creative CMSS matrix decoders ("upmix") might satisfy you. If you plan to watch movies or watch TV, you will find that, with exception of DTS NEO:6, they are not good at all. A ProLogic II decoder sounds much better. If you are lucky, your player has a software ProLogic decoder. For example, WinDVD has one. Unfortunately, in that case the soundcard's high tech DSP - which you payed $$$ for - will not be used at all.
An alternati've solution for non-gamers (for movies and music) is to install the kx driver from the kx project at http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/index.php?language=en
For music, this driver - strangely enough - not only sounds better than Creative's own player, it is also far more configurable. For example, if your center speaker is from a differerent brand than the main speakers, you can put an equalizer before it. Or you can redirect bass from small speakers to larger speakers and not just to the subwoofer, as is the case with Creative's drivers. The options are endless. You can even create totally different configurations for different situations (movie/music/...) and switch on the fly. Other benefits: the driver is very small and very fast, everything happens instantly. However, its user interface is weird and the project lacks documentation. You will need determination on the first day. Afterwards, you will be able to configure your music/movie system to sound far better than with Creative's driver and customize details that simply can not be customized with the official driver. And the best thing: everything will run inside the card's DSP and the computer's CPU is free to do other stuff. Btw, the link above leads you to the last official release. If you read their forum, you will find a more recent beta release from this year.Message Edited by mirko on 0-2-2005 0:22 PM

  • Satellite X200-191 = Laptop turns on 4 seconds, black screen,humming sound

    *Original:* 1024MB + 1024MB Memory 667MHZ / 512MB VRAM *Replaced:* Kingston Kingston KVR667D2S5/2G (I have this 2x)
*Original:* 200GB + 200GB Harddisk Drive (4200RPM) SATA *Replaced:* Only 1 HDD left, other one I will get back in 2 days.
    17 WSXGA+ TRUBRITE TFT Screen
    HD DVD-ROM Drive
    56K Modem / Lan
    W-Lan (802.11 A/G/N)
    1/3MPixel Web Camera
    Bluetooth
Microsoft Vista Home Premium 32 Bit
    _*My Problem:*_
I take out the battery, plug it in the power. Charging light turns on.
I press the power button, power led turns on. Followed by the hdd led turn on, which blinks real quick, stays on for 1 second, then turns of. The power led stays on during all the time.
2 seconds after the power button, a fan starts blowing, while the above mention hdd led blinks for 1 second, 2 seconds after the fan starting to blow, it turns off.
We are now 4 seconds farther, pretty much, everything stopts, except a very tiny minor humming sound. (I just left it on for a couple minutes, sound remains, nothing happens.) (While writing this all I left it on for 10 minutes, the laptop heats op a bit, the adapter gets hotter, but still only the very tiny minor humming sound.)
+So my laptop works for 4 seconds, wont give any screen (black screen) wont load even BIOS. What could be wrong ?+
    _*Fixing?:*_
Ok so I left the laptop after a couple of months, being told it was dead, just getting it dusty. (Read history to get this)
But since last week, I figured its getting dusty, I never opened a laptop before, why wont I try doing that.
_+*I replaced the Memory modules, Slot A and B , both memories , same time, one at a time, all possible ways.*+_
_+*Since I have only 1 HDD, I used it in both slots. Looks to no difference. Using NO HDD, I do NOT have the very tiny minor humming sound!!!*+_
I followed a guide [http://www.irisvista.com/tech/] to open my laptop, to see what is inside.
Finding no lose plugs, but did find a certein oil, and some white paste.
Closing the laptop, to try it out, I accidently screwed a couple wrong screws in the laptop, piercing the top cover of my laptop, but no chips were hit during this :P (Yeah, Im a bit to strong, I should have figured using force for a couple of the screws wasnt the best thing I could do, but now i know :p)
*SOOO* My question, while I wait for the extra old HDD (getting it in 2 days). (Probably making no difference)
What could be wrong, more precisly. Should I like try taking out the video card or something ?
Is there something I should do with some soldering?
Any tips/tricks that could work, wether to fix the laptop, or to narrow down the problem , to a small part which i could replace ?

    _*History:*_
Not sure if this is any important, but just to let you know, if intrested what happend all to the laptop ;)
I bought the laptop at Shape Computers (in the netherlands) Asking this laptop mentioned above, with 2 things changed. I wanted more Memory, and I wanted windows XP. The shop told me this was possible. They bought me the laptop in, they replaced the Memory with the kingston memories. They installed windows XP instead of the Vista. They laptop did work at this very moment. So I bought the working laptop, with 1 year warranty.
With the folders extra given with the laptop, I was able to increase my warranty from 1 to 2 years for free, so I did.
After probably a couple of weeks I noticed that the laptop was getting real hot, after longer usage. But according to the manual this was normal.
I did use the laptop for gaming, but also 2 months for a gaming study. So I did take it several times to school in a backpack.
After not using it for school anymore I reinstalled Windows Vista 32 BIT
At a very point not sure when precisly I noticed that it wouldnt turn on (probably same problem as I have now) but I was really relaxed about it, tried it later, and somehow it did work again. This happend perhaps about 5 times in total.
Knowing something was wrong, I took it back to Shape Computers. They checked it. (Not showing me what they did to it) But they told me I had nothing to worry about.
After about 2 years I actually sold this laptop to my mom. She used it a couple times (she is like realy noob, just about computers in generally, not even knowing if she should double click icons or not) She took it with her a couple times on trips, and they after about 2 years and 2 months ... this problem happend.
My mom knows a guy, and a friend of that guy, works alot with broken laptops, which told me that the problem was the _+motherboard+_.
I decided to take it back to the shop. After a long progress being down there (about 6 to 8 weeks)(Me going to the shop like 15 times). The shop managed to tell me it was the motherboard. That the motherboard couldnt be fixed and that a new one would be way to expensive.
+(I Known at this very point, after getting the motherboard back, that this laptop was not screwed open yet. The screws were still brand new.)+
Funny information(not for me), during this period of about 8 weeks, they actually told me lies like ... I left a message at your voicemail, I DONT HAVE A VOICEMAIL ... sorry for the caps but im still xxxxxx about those lies.
So still believing the shop ... my laptop is gone .... dead ... but then since last week, I started looking into the laptop myself ...(Fixing)

Ok, the company did not reply at all ... I ended up sending another email. And they did reply with a automatic message. Now weeks later still nothing more then that auto reply.
While I was waiting I contacted another guy that knows alot from these laptops. Getting a new part would cost me about 300 euros, and thats just the part, not even replace time.
Considering the toshiba help I have gotten ... (pretty much none) in these last years.
I declare my laptop dead. And decide at this very moment, that I (ofcourse) never will buy toshiba hardware again.
I might pay a bit more at my Dell computers, but the support in the last 8 years with 5 different computer systems and 1 laptop. Has been perfect in compare to the toshiba support I have gotten in the last 3 years, which just fails.
Thx tho all you guys for the replys.
