5.1 Speaker on a MAC?

Hello all,
Trying to get this migration from my PC to the MAC going and I have come up with a question in regards to my PC Speakers. I have a Logitech 5.1 Surround sound speaker set. As such there are 3 plugs that plug into my PC. Can I still use all 5 speakers on my iMac? I know that the MAC only has the 1 speaker port but I'm wondering if there is such a thing as an adapter that would allow it.
Thanks

If you have such a speaker system with all those extra plugs that have to go somewhere for it to work, you might consider this device by Griffin Technology.
http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/firewave
It's on special for $19.99. I think Griffin is phasing out the product and it's the "fire" sale. I bought one myself recently (because of the low price), but haven't had a chance to fully try it out yet.
The optical audio output is nice, but you have to have a speaker system that can accept the optical signal.

  • How can I set up a bluetooth speaker with a mac mini?

    Hi
    I'm using a late 2012 Mac Mini processor, OS X 10.9.4 -- can't find any info on how to set up wireless Bluetooth speaker.
    Would appreciate any help. Thanks

    OK, thank you for that information. On your Mac, go to the Apple logo at the very top left. Then go to System Preferences. Then go to the Blue bluetooth logo to open bluetooth settings. In the window that opens, you'll see a + in the bottom left. Just before you click this, press the pair button on your speaker. The Mac will now search for the speaker, which is now discoverable. When you see the speaker, double click it in the list. Once you are connected, go back to system preferences, this time opening up the sound settings. In the list of speakers, select your Bluetooth one. it will now be highlighted and all audio will go through it. To go back to your regular speakers, either turn off the Bluetooth speaker, or go back to the sound settings and highlight 'build in speakers'. *****

  • Can I use a wireless speaker with my mac?

    I really hate all the wires running behind my computer, so it would be awesome if I can buy a wireless or bluetooth speaker for my Mac. I'm just wondering that is it possible to do that? If possible, please give me some hints on how to.
    Thanks so much in advance.

    A couple of examples:

    Both require a transmitter connected to the computer.

  • Is it possible to attach a bluetooth speaker to my mac and still use the mac's speakers at the same time?

    Is it possible to attach a bluetooth speaker to my mac and still use the mac's speakers at the same time, so I can have music in two rooms (from the mac in the lounge and the  bluetooth speaker in the kitchen? It seems to be a choice of either/or as when I pair my speaker the sound stops from the mac's speakers.

    No.

  • Can I speak into my mac and save it as an audio file with garage band

    Can I speak into my mac and save it as digital audio file?

    Looking at the specs, the mini does not appear to have a built-in microphone as the iMacs do. You can't just plug a microphone into the input socket, as that is line level and a microphone doesn't have enough output. Your easiest move would be to buy a USB headset such as the one Plantronics makes for use with Skype: this should work straight off.
    Sound Recorder is a simple audio recorder: I've not used it, so I don't know if it's any good, but it would at least cost you nothing to try it.
    Amadeus II and Amadeus Pro are reasonably priced and are fully featured sound recorders and editors which can save in a number of formats.

  • Speaker sound on Mac pro

    After I used the sound from headphone ...
    the speaker sound on Mac pro became not working, How I can fix this problem?

    Try system preferences and click on SOUND select the OUTPUT tab and make sure Internal Speakers are highlighted... You can always try rebooting the computer or an SMC reset... To do an SMC reset, Power the mac down, Hold Control + Option + Shift... while holding them press power and hold all for 10 seconds. Release and power the mac back on... This should fix it if selecting from system preferences doesn't fix it...

  • After connecting a speaker to my Mac it makes a lot of sounds

    After I connect a speaker to my MBP running Lion, it proceeds to make a series of beeps, then mail sending wooshing sounds for about a minute. It's as if it's suddenly reeling off all the sounds from say the past couple of hours of use. Very odd. These are continuous sounds one after another, which then all of a sudden stops.
    This is a late 2007 MBP Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz, 6GB RAM, 10.7.4
    Any ideas?

    1) Use your backup copy of your music and put the music onto your Mac, or use home share, or dvd's, external drive, flash drive,etc to move the music from the old computer to the new one.
    You can see if this allows you to do it with the ipod, but I would just use my backup.

  • Dragon Naturally Speaking Medical on Mac systems?

    I am hoping that some of the experts that watch these boards can give me some suggestions. I am a busy family doctor and my medical group has purchased the new Dragon Naturally Speaking Medical (version 10) to begin using for our medical dictation. It is a Windows based app, which is not a problem for most of my Windows/PC based partners, but I am a devoted Mac user and really would like to figure out a way to run this on my existing 1.5 year old Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro, or perhaps a new iMac that I could dedicate to my office. We run a few other applications that are PC only as well. I know that I could do this with Bootcamp, but would like to continue to have iCal and e-mail up and running throughout the day. I don't know if Parallels is good for this? I don't know if the Dragon version 10 software and microphone will run well in an emulation enviroment? I guess I want it all... I hate to spend alot on new hardware, but my MBP is already pretty full of data (ie. I don't know if I have enough hard drive space for a bootcamp partition). Thanks for any suggestions...

    Thanks for the post, I just checked CrossoverMac web site. They have not tested their software with DNS version 10, but version 9 is known not to work already. So this may not offer me a good solution.

  • THX Speaker System w/Mac Pro

    I have a THX speaker system I used to use with my PC. I have it plugged into my mac now but I cant find a way to control the bass/treble/mids... It seems like I only can control the volume.
    Is there a way to fine tune the sound? I don't mind if I have to get a separate app to control the sound output.
    Any recommendations?
    Oh yeah the setup is 2 front, 2 rear, 1 center, 1 sub.

    My Logitech Z-680 comes with its own volume control box that lets you control each speaker individually. Does the THX?

  • Time Machine not speaking to my Mac (error message -6753)

    My time machine has stopped backing up and when I try to reconnect Time Capsule gets the connect messages but will not respond, except with error messages saying it is not available.
    1. Airport Utility recognises that the Time Capsule hard drive exists but will not do a manual or auto configuration.
    2. Time Machine app does list the Time Capsule ("Data" on "Time Capsule") in the "Select backup disk..." but does not display the amount of Gb available though it does with the other disks listed - these are all FireWire connected, while Time Capsule is connected via Ethernet (which I prefer to AirPort).
    3. Have tried deleting the plist, but this has not solved the problem.
    4. Have looked at the help lists tried a few other thing but nothing works (including changing from Ethernet to AirPort). I have searched online for error -6753, but get 0 results.
    5. I have done a few screen shots but it seems I cannot attach files
    Since I cannot put my screenshots online, here is a line from NetBarrier indicating that my Mac is connecting to Time Capsule:
    18/02/2010, 16:50:02
    Source: 192.168.1.64
    Destination: 169.254.141.19
    Protocol: TCP
    Src Port: 51942
    Destination Port: 5009
    Flags: S
    Interface: en0
    Kind: Outgoing connection
    I feel my description of the problem is rather inadequate, so if anyone feels they could help if I provided more info then please ask me.
    Thanks for any help.

    Forgot to mention that the light is green on my Time Capsule and all the lights with the cables are also green.

  • No external speaker sound with mac-mini running bootcamp win7 64

    Hi,
    I am unable to get external sound working with mac mini (september 2011) running windows 7 64 on bootcamp 4 (Lion). Drivers appear OK in device manager. Running seperate driver exe from bootcamp library results in a message that the best driver is working. Any suggestions? How do I know which audio driver I need? Where, specifically, can I download the correct driver? I have seen a reference to cirrus logig 4206B driver working but I can find no such driver anywhere. I can't figure out how to search for drivers on cirrus web site. Please help.
    Thanks,
    b

    Ok, the solution in my case was to go back to MacOS, run the BootCamp assistant again, and have it re-download all the Windows drivers.  Back in Windows 7, uninstall BootCamp, then reinstall.  Now all the drivers work.
    Apple has apparently updated/fixed their 64 bit drivers since I last tried to make it go.  I would have thought that Apple Software Update (on Windows) or Windows Update would have picked up the newer drivers, but they didn't.

    I am not sure of a tool to view the JNDI tree. I have one in Weblogic console. But you can check the JNDI names with a small sample code.
    import java.util.*;
    import javax.naming.*;
    import javax.rmi.PortableRemoteObject;
    public class TestEnvironment {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Context context   = null;
            Object object     = null;
            // Hashtable for environment properties.

            env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "t3://localhost:7001");
            try {
                context   = new InitialContext(env);
                NamingEnumeration enum = context.listBindings("");
                while (enum.hasMore()) {
                    Binding binding = (Binding) enum.next();
                    System.out.println("Name: " + binding.getName());
                    System.out.println("Type: " + binding.getClassName());
                    System.out.println("Value: " + binding.getObject());
            } catch (Exception exception) {
                exception.printStackTrace();
    }Hope this helps.

  • Speaker noise while Mac Mini is in sleep mode

    Hello together,
    my Mac Mini produces strange hizz/buzz sounds for approx. half a second every few minutes while it sleeps.
    The noise is quite loud and it is a rather annoying sound. I experience these sounds if I connect the Mac Mini via the normal audio out connector on both my Audioengine 5 speakers as well as a Denon amp.
    Is there any way to get rid of this noise?

    Thanks for your idea!
    Unfortunately, I don't think that's it - all cell phones are away from the machine (and i know the "dadididida" sound of cell phones quite well).
    I also thought that it could be a huge machine that is switched on somewhere but then again I have my stuff behind a surge protector so that I think that any such stuff would be filtered. The fact that it is periodic and happened here in the states as well as in Europe makes me wonder if it is an issue with the mac itself.
    Anyone else who has that issue?

  • Using creative surround sound speaker package with Mac - any chance?

    hi - I have Creative THX 7.1 surround sound speakers. They work well with my PC and its creative soundcard. Will they work at all with an Imac? I have a sinking feeling they won't?
    Electric Ray

    What sort of inputs does this system have (e.g. digital optical, RCA, miniplug)? If any other than digital optical, you may need a decoder or other external sound card to use these speakers with your iMac.

    Good morning,
    Without knowing the specific make/model of the speakers it would be difficult to say, however, using the Bluetooth Utility on the Mac you should be able to pair almost any device.
    You can access the Bluetooth Utility on your main menu bar near the clock, it should look like a "B".
    Hope this helps! 
