5.1 Speaker System Problems

I recently bought a Creative T5400 5.1 speaker system.
However when I've tried to connect it to my 12" Powerbook I can only get sound from the front right and left, and subwoofer.
Doing some research I've found that I probably need to buy an external USB sound card. However I am trying to avoid this extra cost (speaker system cost me ony £30, and external sound cards seem to be around the £100 mark), and so am looking for a cheaper alternative.
I read somewhere that you can get 2.1 sound to come from all 6 speakers which would be fine, but the site I got this from was unclear on how exactly.
If anyone has any idea how to do this (do I need to download a decoder?) or knows of anywhere to buy supercheap external 5.1 sound cards, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Chris

Hi,

  • A solution to the S750 speaker system problem

Well my s750 died just like everybody elses. But after creative wanted me to pay 75% of my purchase price, I found a better solution. Nope, I am not fixing the unit like you guy's. I do not see the need to fix a poorly design system! I am not sure if creative or indigo/bash/blade audio is to be blamed. But if I had to pick, I would say "indigo/bash/blade audio". Years ago before blade audio became indigo, I had a chance to visit their location in ontario Canada. This was just when they stop making the blade audio car amps.
While I was there, I happened to see this long list of brand names they had started to make amp modules for. Names like Harman International, Klipsch and so on. Anyway I cast the blame on indigo for this reason: Some years ago I had purchased a set of "harman international" infinity IL series speakers. Like our creative s750, the infinity shares a bash powered subwoofer system. And just like the s750 the infinity subwoofer like to blow up too! In the case of the infinity, the power supply was the weak link. The amp module in the infinity at that time, was built just like the blade audio car amps before. Which in my opinion is a much better design than what is being used in the s750. I remember one of the sale guy at circuit city at the time saying, "I wish we would drop this model". He went on to tell me the failure on the powered units were very high. You know there is a problem when the mid level Creative Inspire T7700 7.1, out last the flagship s750. Now, whats my better solution you guy's want to know? Two words , Simplifi Digital! The 7075a 7.1 amplifier along with Definitive Technology Pro Sub1000 and the remaing surround speakers from my s750 system. Yes, it did cost me more to go this route. But what I now have is a much more reliable system. And a sound that the s750 can only dream about. My s750 died while I was listening to Dave Bruebeck quartet "take five" at mid volume. With my current setup, I can listen mid volume all day long with no hiccups.
For those who my have the cash to spend. I recommend looking at my direction!? Keep this in mind, make sure whatever powered subwoofer you choose, is adjustable up to 50hz. The creative surround speakers dont play very well below 20hz. Also make sure whatever powered sub you choose don't use a BASH amplifier. For those looking at the s750 as a purchase, good luck. Or go over to partsexpress.com and get the Dayton Part Number 300-670, surround speakers. Then get the simplifi digital 7075 7.1 amplifier and power subwoofer of your choice and make a better/best system. Sorry Creative Labs! This post is NOT intended to cast negativity. I use and like the products you offer. I just do not like the s750, and the reasons are all over this forum and elsewhere on the net. I currently own 3 audigy 2zs sound cards, three Inspire t7700 speaker system, three sound blasters modems and yes, one defective/dead s750 speaker system. If anything use this post as a positive to what Creative Labs could offer in the future. A system like I now have, sure would be nice with the Creative name all over it.

My system specs below. What I have now simply blows the S750 away. And this is mated to my Audigy 2zs card. I am tempted to try my Terratec Aueron 7.1 universe which does sound better than my 2zs. The Simlifi Digital amplifier is one serious unit. This amp has one HUGE toroidal transformer inside of it! I was able to see it thru the vents on top of the cover. Definitive Technology ProSub 1000 Subwoofer Specifications:Complement: One 10" woofer with polymer cone coupled to one 10" infrasonic radiator

  • Problem connecting 7.1 speaker system to iMac

I purchased creative 7.1 speaker system yesterday (Model No: Inspire:T7900). The package contains a cable to connect iMac and woofer system. The cable has 4 pins to one end and 3 pin to other end. According to the manual, I connected the 4 pins to woofer system with the matching colors. Now the problem is how to connect the other 3 pin end to iMac. iMac does have only one analog out, if I connect any one of the plug, only 2 set of speakers are giving the sound and the output switches from speaker to speaker everytime I change the pin. Is there a way to connect all the 3 pins to mac so that all the 7 speakers will become functional. Please help me... I'm very much worried :(:(

I'm baffled at how you got it to work. I'd be humored to know what kind of loops you must have jumped through to get it going. Humored... and very much interested in the hack.
I brought one home from a Microcenter today for my PPC Mac Mini (10.5.2) particularly.
I've tinkered with it all day but it just is not producing any sound.
The manual instructions do not lead to results.
It does show up as a device by profiler. Alas Audio MIDI Setup is refusing to recognize the FireWave.
So I'm out $100 and am looking at another trip back to return it... unless it CAN really work.
    I've emailed Griffin.
Doesn't work on a 10.5.1 Mac Pro either.
I cannot find ANY devices that will do hardware decoding via firewire /or/ usb that are supported by 10.5.2 that aren't total overkill for what I'm using it for. This seemed like a perfect solution, but I'm really dissatisfied that it didn't work out of the box and with the lack of Griffin's support.
So please if you can help me figure this out I'd really be grateful.

  • Problem with T7700 7.1 Speaker System

I'm currently having a problem with the speaker system named above. For no reason at all, whether I'm playing a game, watching a mpg or listening to mp3's, the volume on the speakers raises and lowers every few seconds for no apparent reason. This has been happening for a few months now. (I bought the speakers December 2003) I've ruled out the sound card (Audigy 2 ZS) because I've tried these speakers on two different systems. Any ideas what it could be or if you need any more info, please let me know. Thanks.

I can't read good, I didn't see your hardware. My mistake.
I reinstalled my drivers, and that seems to have helped. I think it may have had something to do with Windows XP SP2 or my onboard sound, I don't know for sure though.

  • FireWire problem with speaker system

I have a gen4 Nano that will not charge on my speaker system. I used the white docking adapter, but still nothing. It will play the music, but won't charge. We have three gen3 Nanos that are recognized, but not the gen4. Please help.

    Hi,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Unfortunately, your 4th generation nano won't charge when it's connected to some components. Those components use the FireWire pins to charge, where newer components use the USB pins. And the newer iPods have stopped using the FireWire pins and only use the USB pins.
Like yours, my speaker system uses the FireWire pins, but I have a 4G iPod, so I had to use a universal dock to charge my iPod, and then connect it to my speakers via a cable. On the one hand, it's not the best solution, but it also allows me to use a remote to control the iPod, which is a nice bonus I actually use more than I thought.

  • Can I use a  new ipod touch in an old dock/speaker system

I will be in the states soon and thinking of getting and I pod touch the 5th edition. However I have an older dock/speaker system and wonder will it work in it. I have heard that you have to buy an adaptor. Is this true and are they easy to get and how expensive are they. Also is there any issue with buying one in the states and using it in Europe

    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD823ZM/A/lightning-to-30-pin-adapter?fnode=72
is the lightning to 30 pin adapter. There are some third party ones out there, but not a ton. If you go for a third party one go for a name brand not a no name generic.
If you want to buy one, look for a retailer with a good return policy so if it doesn't work you can take it back.
As to world wide use, shouldn't be a problem. The only thing you need to worry about is making sure you have a plug adapter if your charger is rated for world wide voltage, or making sure you have a charger that can handle the world wide variances in power. (Usually rated 100-240V in the specs)

  • I own a Zen Vison: M and am wanting a speaker system for my player

I know there aren't any docking speaker systems for them yet, and I honestly doubt there will be any real soon.
So what would be the best way to go?
My X girlfriend had an I-Pod (poooo) and she had this speaker system.
    http://www.alteclansing.com/product_details.asp?pID=IM7
Honestly that thing would be the only reason I would go gay for I-Pod.
What would I have to do to get something close to that?
    A dock: http://us.creative.com/products/prod...7&product=4485
    Speaker System: http://us.creative.com/products/prod...7&product=4097
    Wireless remote?:http://us.creative.com/products/prod...Specifications
The wireless remote confuses me becuase I swear the other night it said it suppotered the Vision: M and now it just says the Vision.
I've also found this, The Player Dock http://us.creative.com/products/prod...5&nav=features
But would it be compatible with the wireless remote?
It's so hard being a creative customer, There aren't any worth while accessories yet.
Anyway, if anyone could help me that would be great.

Hi There,?I just bought my Zen Vision M yesterday and so far I'm very happy with it. I had a Toshiba Gigabeat S30 first but the battery was horrid (seems to be very close to the Zune in design and features etc)?then I swapped for an 80GB Ipod video but there is a massi've problem with the EQ settings wanting to clip passed the digital headroom (google "ipod distortion")?Got The Creative Zen Vision M and I can say the following so far:?The sound output is strong and powers my $200 Sony in ear headphones with clean power even with bass all the way up. It's got a custom 5 band graphic EQ which works well to customise the sound to how you want it (I hate the standard MP3 EQ options of most players)? The sound quality is Very Very Good. (I'm a Hi-Fi freak and a competent home recording engineer)?I can see the screen easily even on a hot bright sunny day outdoors on 50% brightness (Very useful)?I have a couple of MP3's that were converted from WMA's and on some players they dont play but the Creative plays them fine. The use interface is easy to navigate but not quite as good as the Toshiba Gigabeat but looks nicer. The FM radio is great sounding aswell which is a bonus and you can custom name the stations. You can set photos as wallpaper and it comes with 6 player skins to customise the look. Battery seems pretty good. when its not locked the screen goes dimmer instead of turning off completely but the battery still seems to last ok. (if you lock it though it will last even longer.)?I haven't found anything bad about it yet. Toshiba Gigabeat S30? 5/0Apple Ipod Video 80GB? 2/0Creative Zen Vision M?? 0/0 so far?hope this helped.

  • Speaker System Mac OS X

    Hello everybody,
I've got a iMac with Mac OS X and I have also an 5.1 Speaker System. But now I've got a problem with the speakers..
The system properties of the iMac (and also the Mac-seller) said that -when you put the green plug in the line-out of the PC- the sound is transformed to front, center & rear speakers. But I've the problem, I put the green plug in it and I only get the Front-sound. Is the problem about the iMac? Or is it about the speakers?
    Thanks for now on,
    Kees

A USB sound card would allow you to do this. Creative has a few products, like this, that should work fine.

  • Replacement AC Adapter for speaker system

    ) Hello,
i have M5300 speaker system which its adapter died today....i replaced it with a universal ac adapter which outputs 12V - 200mA..
    the original ac adapter read 12V - 2.9A ......
after replacing the ac adaptor, i could not pump the sound up as it becomes very distorted esp the bass.....
is this amp difference causing the problem? any suggestion plz
    thanks

    Welcome to Lenovo Community!  keller
Yes, it should be workable as long as the new AC adapter provides more power than the old one, as well as having the same round connector.
    Have a nice day!

  • Help on setting up 5.1 speaker system

Hi there, I have very recently changed over from a windows PC to a Mac (I bought it last week)
and i was hoping for some help on setting up a proposed 5.1 speaker system. I am looking to buy the Logitech z5500 system and I was wondering if I need any other hardware in order for it to operate without any problems.. maybe things like extra sound card? i understand that there is a digital out slot - what type of cabling would i need in order to connect it up this way?
any help would be very well received.
thanks for any time in advance!

as mentioned above, All that you need is a optical cable (a toslink) and that will provide you with the 5.1 sound output. BUT and this is important, the Game or Movie must support 5.1 for you to get 5.1 sound (not a lot of Mac games have 5.1 output) also you will need to ensure that you setup the right settings on your sound Preference panel. You dont need any additional boxes or cables as long as your 5.1 speaker system accepts 5.1 audio via digital toslink (eg optical cable). the z5500 is suitable and will give you 5.1 sound if used with a game or movie that has 5.1 sound output.
Good luck and enjoy the sound

  • X-FI and 4 point Digital Speaker system

I have the Cambridge Soundworks speaker system that has digital inputs. I know its an older system but i am wondering if there is any other way to enable the 4 point digital without having to resort to analog cables?
The only option under the digital settings are headphones and 2/2. speakers. Did Creative forget about the Cambridge line that supports 4 speaker digital?
I have tried different settings including configuring for 4/4. speakers and enableing digtal yet my 2 front speakers are carrying all 4 channels.
if there is not a solution.. can anyone tell me where i can get the analog cables for a 4. speaker system?
I got rid of mine a long time ago once I upgraded to the Soundblaster LIVE! X-Gamer.
Other then that the X-FI sounds awesome.. just wish i had my digital 4 point surrond.
    thanks

Well, the Li've! and Audigys use a proprietary 4-pole connector which can carry 8-channels, while also being compatible with 3-pole 2-channel stereo-minijack-like SPDIF. I am not really sure about it, but the Flexijack is most probably a normal 2-channel connector.
If anyone has this configuration testing would be enlightening. You should be able to get the 2 front speakers to work properly, but the rears may be the problem. (And do the 4-channel test, because the FPS will default to copy the front sound to the rears if there is no rear input ).
But the question is, would quality be better? I doubt it, the DACs in the FPS2000 are quite old and I think their SNR will actually be lower than the ones on the X-Fi.
Also, I don't think EAX will be different with or without the digital connection. It worked fine with my Li've! card and I had no problems.

It appeared to me that somehow the OP's Picture folder was converted into an iPhoto Library as his screenshot of the PIctures folder looked like the inside of a library.
This statement by the OP make me think it might be more than just an iPhoto issue (the bold text):
I am unable to drag the Picture folder to the desktop, It wont move, and iPhoto (which is still empty) just opens.

  • HT2844 iMac 27"(late 2009), Audio in/Optical digital audio out port, stopped recognizing my new Bose speaker system, previously working...

    Hello,
My iMac 27"(late 2009), Audio in/Optical digital audio out port, stopped recognizing my new Bose speaker system, previously working through that port. I tested the speaker system through my iPhone, and it works fine. I hooked it up to the Headphone out/Optical digital audio in port, and it works through that port also. I did a computer restart, I also checked all wiring and did a system repair on the computer. I also restarted the computer in mode where I could use the system utility, and the computer still did not correct the matter, and it reported everything as being "ok". I wented into "sound", through system preferences, and the computer does not recognize anything I plug into the Audio in/Optical digital audio out port. When I plug the speaker sysytem into the headphone out/optical digital audio out port, it does recognize the Bose speaker system as being "headphones".
Reading through a lot of forums, I hear everything from compatibility, to the port being stuck, and on and on. Since the port was working before, and just quit working one day, I wonder if there is a capacitor or fuse or some type of similar thing is blown, and causing the port to be unfunctionable. Maybe the port went bad, but before this time, I had never used it, and the computer does not move around, and I never plug in and pull wiring out unless needing to, and that being rare.
Here is a link to Costco, where I bought the system, and the exact system I have, if this is any help:  http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku= A4092931&ST=pla&dgc=ST&cid=262075&lid=4742361&acd=1230980794501410
By the way, I am running OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5). I upgraded to Mavericks about a month ago, and expeirienced a number of issues, and had to take my iMac into Apple. Talking with the tech, I decided to wait for a while more before I upgraded to Mavericks. I try and keep the computer maintained.
If any of you have any ideas regadrding wear and tear, and fix I can do, etc., besides having to take my computer into Apple? Thank you, and potentially all of you, for your time and effort in helping me with this issue. Thank you kindly.
    davE

Okay, davE, first, you have posted in the "Mac Pro" forum (not Macbook Pro), so we can't be super helpful
but we help you. First, hold down the Option key while clicking on the speaker icon at the top of your screen. This should show you all the inputs and outputs you have. you could check in "About this Mac" then "More info" to see whatever's recognized. Then, maybe, fire up Audio MIDI. your speaker system should show up there. something might have gotten set incorrectly. You can test it there.  I guess you are using the good ol' analog cable for connection, and it works on your iPhone, so the cable isn't bad.  You could try this. it 's an adapter which might solve your problem

  • How to play Mozaic over car radio speaker system without static?

Playing Zen Mozaic over Car?s Radio Speaker system without static?
I just purchased a Zen Mozaic and want to use it primarily for playing books downloaded from the local library over our car?s radio speaker system without static.
I purchased a cheap audio cable to connect the zen to the AUX interface in the car but I understand that trying to play it over the car runs into the problem of bad static.
Is there some device that will allow me to play the Mozaic over the car radio system without static?
    Thanks very much.
    Bruce? [email protected]

D? Are you simply plugging a jack from the headphone output on the Zen into a headphone-like input on your stereo? That sould work fine, with possibly only slight "whine". If you are wiring into the back of your stereo, it should work just as well unless you have poorly shielded cables or your car has crummy sparkplugs. Do a Google search on this---what you are doing in case 2 is common on motorcycles and they will tell you how to use a resistor circuit to cut down on ignition interference.
You can also either use a cassette adapter (if your stereo has a cassette player) or an FM transmitter (many varieties of these). The FM transmitter works well, but you'll pick up static and interference if you dri've into an area where an actual FM station is using that frequency. You just have to "change channels" on your radio and transmitter in this case---simple. The sound is pretty good (not as good as direct cable or cassette adapter) and is more than adequate for books.
