5.1 speakers on a laptop.
Hi, is there a way to make iTunes to use all the speakers of a laptop with a 5.1 speakers set? It only sound with the two center speakers, but the other 3 and subwoofer do nothing, resulting on a very weak sound, the speakers work because if I play a DVD they all sound
Thanks
just taking that one step further..
there are two types of optical toslink surround setups.
1- those that have built in hardware decoding (like my Logitech Z-5500's) which means the speakers recieve that undecoded 5.1 signal from the computer, and the speakers themselves decode it - splitting the signal to 6 channels.
2-non harware decoding speakers, that are 5.1 but have to recieve a decoded signal from an optical toslink connector. note these cannot be used with a mac, as the mac does not output a decoded signal.
an external speaker& package has to be used in order to decode the output from the G5 Power Mac/ G5 iMac

Hi, I am not able to hear playback of audio from the speakers on my laptop. Only if I connect a headphone I am able to hear. Kindly help resolve.
Regards,
Vivek. V.Hi
1) Try a Hard Reset as follows.
Remove any devices connected to the notebook. Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook - check if the speakers are now working.
2) Please First check if the speaker icon on the unit is not muted.
3) Go to device manager and uninstall the Sound driver and restart and unit will install the driver automatically.
4) Try doing System restore to the date when the unit was working fine.
5) Try to update the driver from hp.com website for Audio & Bios.
Let us know how it goes!

[SOLVED] No sound from speakers, headphones work (laptop, ALSA)
Sorry about another "No sound"-thread . So, the headphones work just fine, I can play music or Youtube-videos or whatever but the speakers on my laptop stay mute no matter what I do. I even tested the speakers with a Ubuntu CD to check if I've broken them somehow.
I've been having this odd problem for a week or so, I don't know since I usually use the headphones on my laptop anyway.

Could it be a driver issue? I just need some cryptic parameter to some module, right?
I've been playing around with alsamixer to fix this problem, maybe I've just messed things up a bit more? I really don't know much about ALSA, so the answer might just be obvious to some.

Speakers buzzing when laptops on
speakers buzzing when laptops on? Hello,
I have logitech x-530 speakers and they buzz when the laptop is turned on. These speakers are connected to my desktop PC and work fine when the laptop is turned off, as soon as the laptop is turned on they buzz all withing the /4 volume range but it fades out the louder you turn the speakers up.
Has any one any idea of this? as it has done it with various sound cards, motherboards, cpu, ram, and routers so I am guessing they are not the course.
I just replaced the motherboard, soundcard, cpu, router less then a month ago but was doin this befor then as well. But seems to be louder now then it used to be
my specs now are:
logitech x-530speakers
creative soundblaster x-fi xtremegamer fatalty pro sound card
gigabyte MA790GP-UD4H motherboard?
amd phenom II 940 cpu
nvidia 9800 gtx+ graphics card
2 sticks ddr 800Mhz OCZ fatalty ram
netgear DG834N router (modem)
not sure if any the computer parts are the problem, the laptop is also connected threw wireless its not on the wireless N network but can be changed if that may help.Neal Gillis wrote:
Hi there,
I've a bit of a bizarre issue, and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions...
I recently acquired a set of Mackie MR5 reference monitors, and am running them through a Tapco LINK.usb audio interface. They work great, with the exception that +anytime there's something move on the screen, they make a horrible buzzing sound+. The greater the movement, the more they buzz (or hum or whatever you want to say). Everything from moving the cursor back and forth to moving an entire window back and forth. Even if I turn the speakers down (via the audio interface), the volume of the buzzing remains the same. I booted the iMac in to Windows, and the sound is the same, so it is not an OS issue. I thought it may have been the video card making the noise (from within the computer), but the sound is definitely coming from the speakers.
Here's the punchline: if I run an extension cord from across the room and plug the speakers into it, the buzzing becomes substantially quieter. It's still there, but it becomes very faint. This leads me to believe that I'm dealing with a power issue in the computer, but am now uncertain what to do. I unfortunately cannot run this 50' orange extension cord across my studio for any amount of time.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Neal,
Have you tried another mouse??? Maybe that is causing the issue...
Also, are you plugged into a 3 prong grounded outlet? -

[Solved] Headphones not muting built-in speakers on a laptop
I have bought a new laptop a Packard Bell MX61 and so far so good, everything works very well with linux until now.
Today I plugged my headphones and the speakers didn't mute, I have searched the web and it seems this is starting to be common, as it seems the good old hardware switch is being replaced by some software solution >_> even on windoze it fails to work properly sometimes. My question is if someone knows how I can make it work in linux. Thanks in advance.

Last edited by R00KIE (2008-11-16 12:06:28)I'm reporting on this, adding
options snd-hda-intel model=lenovo
to /etc/modprobe.conf then rebooting is the way to get things working.
Then I go to alsamixer and raise the front volume to the max and mute it, now the sound changes back and forth from speakers to hedphones.
But I have problems with skype, the sound recorded from the mic has lots of cracks and pops while if I test with audacity the sound is clear.
I'll report back when I get that to work properly, for now I'm marking this as fixed.

External speakers on HP G72-130sa laptop
I have been trying to connect Logitech S220 external speakers to my laptop via the headphone socket but can get no sound.
Do I need to do anything on the computer itself (such as load drivers, adjust sound settings etc.). I have been plugging the green speaker lead into the headphone socket.
Hope someone can help
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hmmm, If you are getting sound for headphone Jack using Headphones...That the system is just fine....Now we are looking at Speaker and audio cable....I hope we have tested to see if the speaker set is working fine...
When it comes to simple setup like these, there are just 3 components that can be a problem area...Sound card, the Jack and Speaker itself....With Sound coming out of the jack using headphone than Sound card and Jack is working...We need to rule out speakers...
Just a wild card, try and install the audio driver from here... ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp48001-48500/sp48281.exe
I don't see, it making to much of difference, but no harm trying....plus I am hoping that OS has not been changed....

Stream Audio to Laptop Speakers over Bluetooth
Hey everyone,
So I'm having an issue where I can't stream audio from any of my portable devices to playback through the laptop speakers, over bluetooth. I have no issues pairing devices to the laptop, nor sendng or recieving files using bluetooth. The only problem is streaming audio through the laptops speakers
I have the latest Bluetooth drivers installed for the ' Ralink rt3290 01 adapter'. I got the drivers from the official HP website (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4158&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=5386... yet audio streaming over bluetooth stll does not work
For testing purposes, I paired the same portable devices to another laptop from a different manufacturer, running windows 8.1 pro, and the audio streaming worked perfectly. All I did was pair the other laptop to my portable device, and press play.
I've spent some time browsing various forums looking for solutions, but nothing has worked so far. I don't know what else to try
Any and all help resolving this issue is greatly apprecited. I really want to show off the great speakers that this laptop hasHello @cipegwa,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand that your notebook computer is not able to stream audio from any of your portable devices to playback through the notebook speakers, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To ensure that the Bluetooth software is installed correctly on your computer, I recommend removing the drivers from Programs and Features or the Device Manager. Once the old software is removed, please restart your computer.
When the notebook has booted back into Windows, I recommend downloading the HP Wireless Button Driver, as well as any applicable wireless or Bluetooth drivers needed from the HP Support Assistant.
Additionally, I also suggest following the steps below:
Step 1. Go to device manager
Step 2. Right click on "Bluetooth Peripheral Device" that you want
Step 3. Select "Update Driver Software..."
Step 4. Choose "Browse my computer for driver software"
Step 5. Choose "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
Step 6. Select "Ports (COM & LPT)"
Step 7. Select "Microsoft" at "Manufacturer" list
Step 8. Finally select "Standard Serial over Bluetooth link"
If you are still unable to pair with a Bluetooth device try the following:
Step 1. Search for "Change device" in the Windows 8 Start menu.
Step 2. Click on where it says Change device installation settings.
Step 3. Select the No, let me choose what to do option.
Step 4. Check the automatically get the device app option
Step 5. Click Save changes to save the settings you just chose
As well you can try this:
Step 1: Go to RUN (Windows Logo + R) and type “services.msc” and Enter
Step 2: Now find “Bluetooth Support Service” and double click on it
Step 3: Now click on Log On Tab and Type in "Local Service" without quotes
Step 4. Click on “This Account”
Step 5: Now remove any passwords leave the password field blank
Step 6: Underneath the upper left title should be a hyperlink "Start"
Step 7. Click "Start"
You can also check Power Management tab and unchecked the box that said "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

Pavillion Laptop with Windows 7 - Speakers have stopped working but headphones do!
Hello
I have a Pavilion dv6 Notebook, with an AMD A8-3500M APU and Radeon HD Graphics card. It is a Windows 7 64 bit system and was purchased in october of 2011
The speakers on my laptop have suddenly stopped working, but external speakers continue to function. I have tried the windows troubleshooter, resetting defaults on playback devices, and updating drivers both through the device manager and through HP Recovery manager. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing drivers, and a hard reset ofthe computer (unplugging all devices and power sources, waiting and restarting). I have tried System Restore to restore the system to a date before the problem. None of these have helped. Anyone have any ideas?Hi there @Rob5
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I understand that you are having problems with the notebook speakers., and I am happy to help with this. From all the trouble shooting you have described it sounds like it may be that the speakers themselves may have gone bad, or the connection is loose.
Before we look at the possible physical problem, take a look through this page first, just in case there is something you have not yet tried.
No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 7)
If you are still getting now sound, then take a look through page 62 of 137 in this guide:
HP Pavilion dv6 Entertainment PC - Maintenance and Service Guide
That page shows how to replace the speaker assembly and the relevant part number, but before going that route, I would suggest just disconnecting and reconnecting the speakers, in case it is just a bad connection. Over time a connector can work itself loose. Just doing that may fix the problem. If not then you can call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html

HP ENVY 6 Speakers Sound Bad (REVERB)
Hi everyone,
I've bought my HP ENVY Ultrabook 6-1111TX laptop a couple of days ago.
I really do love this laptop except for the speakers. (Which I'm guessing should sound better than average because of the whole Beats Audio thingy.)
Ever since i turned it on, i've noticed that the sound from the speakers comes out with a LOT of reverb. It seems as though the speakers just arent capable of handling the simple windows BEEP sound without buzzing. (The default Sound Test sounds good however?)
At first i thought this might be a driver issue, so i updated everything to the latest drivers (IDT 6.10.6433.0) but this didnt help at all. Then i tried unistalling the IDT driver compleately. The default Windows8 sound driver makes the speakers sound pretty quiet but it didnt make any buzzing at all. I reinstalled the IDT drivers - buzzing again. Then I got the idea that it might be the beats audio settings, If i turn off beats audio the buzzing stops (as far as i can tell) but the background noise is still there. Then I tried different settings in the equalizer. After a while I got it to sound less iritating but still I realized that it's not really helping that much.
I finally gave up and came here for help.
These are the default settings with which the speakers sound.. well... bad...
(Speaker Tone Controls on Bass 4 / Treble 4)
My audio drivers:
BiOS: F.23
Other things i tried:
Turning HP Coolsense On/Off - no difference
AC Power/Battery Power - no difference
Pluging in My External Speakers (Creative 2.1) - seems like it sounds good.. no buzzing/crackling/reverb or anything?
Soooo, any suggestions please?Hello Šlapias,
You’re having a problem with your speakers making a buzzing sound.
What is the product number of your laptop?
If you are able to connect external speakers to the laptop, it could be that the internal speakers are bad.
Please respond at your earliest convenience.
