5.1 Surround sound on multiple devices problem

Ok, heres my scenario:
I recently bought a set of 5.1 surround sound speakers, for my iMac, MacBook and PS3. How would I go about connecting these devices to the speakers.
My speakers have that weird 3 cable input on the subwoofer (yellow, black and green 3.5mm sockets), and I have 3 3.5mm jack cables to go with it.
Obviously the iMac only has 1 3.5mm jack output, so how would I go about connecting this?
Then theres my Macbook Pro, again same problem, 1 3.5mm jack, but I need a way to then connect my iMac and Macbook to the speakers without having to keep switching the cables around.
Then finally theres my PS3, which is connected to a monitor via HDMI, there is not other outputs apart from a headphone jack from the monitor, and then the optical out on the back of the system (which I have never really used before).
I would not like to spend too much, but I must have all 3 of these machines connected, without having to rearrange cables every time I use a different machine.
Thanks in advance.
PS. If possible, I would also like to have en extra audio input, just incase I need to plug my iPhone in too.

What's the best way to get 5.1 surround sound on my iMac 2011?
It depends upon what you wish to do with the 5.1.  Most output related uses require 3rd party software as there is no native support for 5.1 in OS X.
A Google search will find you a lot of info on the subject.  Searching these communities will also find a lot of useful info.

  • Output sound to multiple devices without delay

    Hi there
I'm using Audio MIDI Setup on my 27" iMac running Mavericks to ouput sound to 2 devices (both iMac speakers and a Big Jambox, a bluetooth speaker), it works but with some latency. I tried drif correction in Audio MIDI Setup but doesn't change a thing.
How can I output sound to multiple devices without the latency issue ? I'm pretty sure that's possible. Maybe with a 3rd party software?
    Thanks

I am not sure how I would do this if I am using Airplay as one output and hard plug for Computer speakers as the second output. The bosie system is in another room (why airplay) and the computer speakers are in a different room. Thanks for the reply.

  • Surround Sound giving me aggravating problems HELP!

    I have a Creative X-fi Titanium Champion
NOTE: Not working = plays in stereo instead of surround sound like it's supposed to.
Here are a couple great testers for my problem:
This surround sound only works if dolby digital is on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6H6a-...eature=related
This surround sound only works if dolby digital is off and SPDIF out is selected as the default playback device: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gA4PlwSKj8A ORhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwmuD...eature=related
With Dolby Digital off, and using the SPDIF out as my default playback device, I get surround sound, with Dolby Digital on, or X-fi Speakers as my default playback device I get stereo audio.
So In order to get surround sound, I have to turn dolby digital off. Unfortunately to get surround sound in games and movies, I have to have dolby digital on.
There must be a way to get normal surround sound without losing dolby digital or vise versa. Someone please help!
I think the problem is that for surround sound to work, the audio must come from the SPDIF out, but dolby digital only outputs to Speakers out. So while dolby digital in itself is surround sound, only dolby digital surround sound will work over Speakers out. Unfortunately I need to use SPDIF out, so does anyone know how to get dolby digital to use SPDIF out instead of speakers out so I can have surround sound + dolby digital acti've?

The Send as SMS has nothing to do with that. Send as SMS is only done if an iMessage has a send failure message. No settings need to be changed to send an SMS to someone who doesn't have iMessage.
Just tap on this icon to start a new message and enter a number or a contact name. The iPhone will automatically check to see if they are registered with iMessage. If they aren't, then you should see this:
And messages should appear in green when sent.

  • Dolby Digital Surround Sound dropping out with channel chang

Currently I have my cable box hooked up to my extrenal I/O box for my Audigy Platinum Pro ZS2 via my cable boxes SPDIF optical out to the I/O boxes optical in. With my initial set up I went to the AudioHQ and changed my Device Controls/Digital Input controls to SPDIF (Dolby Digital/DTS SPDIF-In Decode) and I had beautiful surround sound, but the only problem is that when I change the channel I lose all sound and I have to go back to the AudioHQ controls and change the Digital Input setting back to the (Default) setting and then change it back to the SPDIFDolby digital....etc, and then the sound comes back. So why is it that whenever I change the channel I lose my optical connection?and sound?and have to reset my Digital Input settings in order to get the sound back?Somebody please help...thanks. Jacob

Sry, your comment is 5 month old, but i have to ask you some thing too:
What headset do you use for the surround sound? I read EVERYWERE that headsets can just output games / music in stereo... for example the logitech g35...
    Hope you can help me

  • Doom 3 in Surround Sound

I did a quick search and found nothing on this.
Well Doom 3 is running great on my 1st ever Mac, better than on my Linux machine by a rather large margin even.
    So I've been really happy.
However, while I can select between stereo or surround in Doom 3 for the built-in speakers. When I connect my iMac to my surround system, it only let's me have it set to stereo.
I try and change it and it says
    "Could not enable surround sound"
Any one have any clue? This strikes me as really odd, as setting Doom 3 to surround on the built-in speakers would be pretty pointless.
    Thanks in advance,
    Cobra
    iMac 24" 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   Doom 3 1.3.1a

Thank you for your quick reply and trying to help me.
I guess I should elaborate. I can get surround sound with DVDs no problem, in fact it sounds absolutely brilliant.
My surround system is a Logitech Z-680 if that helps at all.
Your 100% correct with EAX 4 HD, as it can only be used with a Creative card.
But as EAX is just harmonic effects I'm not really fussed about that.
When I'm not using digital-out however, Doom 3 can be set to surround, but when I plug my surround system in, Doom 3 refuses to go beyond stereo.

  • Problems with HQ-2300D headphones. Lack of surround sound and other minor probs.

I've bought Creative HQ-2300D, and I am disappointed so far.
My first problem was instructions. I am not trying to insult anyone, but the booklet didn't instruct anything. It merely explained what the buttons did and what did the pictures mean (as if I can't recognize a notebook when I see one). The diagram did not include PCs, either.
Regardless, it wasn't useless as finally I've made the headphones & the decoder work. I was surprised that the cable connecting my machine and the decoder was short and thin. Very thin. Here's what I had in my bundle, aside from the decoder, headphones, and cheap Energizer AA batteries:
    http://img293.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0020qh6.jpg
"A" is used for connecting the headphones to video game consoles, I gathered, so I put it aside, since I needed to connect the headphones and decoder to my PC. I tried using "B", but couldn't fit the black thing anywhere. "C" worked. Did I get it right?
I tried music first. Horrid. Bass sounded blurred out and what closely followed could only be described as hands clapping with bass at zero. After messing around with settings, I've managed to reduce that effect to a minimum. Then I've tried watching a movie, and the sound quality was actually very good. Although I've been watching a DVD, I didn't notice surround sound.
Then I've tried games. Half-Life 2 and then Doom 3 with EAX patch. The sound quality is admirable, but I didn't notice surround sound. Is there anything I need to tweak? Also, there's faint noise after low sounds.
Are the headphones defected, or what?
EDIT: Forgot to mention my soundcard is X-Fi Platinum.
Message Edited by Flawless on 07-07-2007 08:31 AM

I'm really sorry for the double post, but after thoroughly reading the instructions again, I've managed to eliminate that faint static by pressing Dolby Pro Logic II and Dolby Headphones buttons simultaneously and holding them for 2 seconds.
But the surround sound is still absent. I thoroughly tested with the helicopter sound circling you, with both CMSS-3D on and off, I fired up Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 and tested if there's any difference between front and back, with both CMSS-3D on and off. I closed my eyes, and I couldn't tell where the sound was coming from.

  • Surround sound problem

    surround sound problemF hi,
i have a creative t7900 8 speaker surround sound setup. back in august i purchased a x-fi soundblaster extremem audio sound card.
up until yesterday it was working fine. i opened my pc up after disconecting all the cables and gave a it clean with compressed air. upon setting it all up again im not gettin surround sound anymore.
no sound is comin out of the fornt centre speaker or the two rear ones. bizzarely when i run a speaker test and test both the side speakers, no sound happens. the strange thing is when i test the two rear speakers the sound comes outa the side speakers. i've swapped the rear and side speakers in my subwoofer and the speakers are defo working.
i even reverted back to my gigabyte motherboard to see if the problem was with the sound card but the same problem exists. i have updated all sound drivers. i've checked both manuals for the MB and sound card and im positi've the cables are plugged in correctly.
has anyone had a similar problem? this is seriously doin my head in.
    help

oddly enough I had the same issue a while ago, and someone at my house switched the audio language to spanish preferred and cnn didn't come out but every other station did.
it may or may not be the same situation but give it a try
menu > settings > audio > audio language.    english preferred   put a check mark there by highlighting it and hitting ok

  • Sat 1710: sound device problems

I hope somebody can help me out with a problem i'm having with sound on my satellite 1710/windows ME nd I really don't know much about comuters!!
I have only had this machine for a few weeks (second hand)and the only sound I can get fromm the machine is the start up bleep, and I am not 100% positive that there ever has been sound. Checking the sound option in control panel actually shows no playback devices in the sound playback preferred devices. I have removed the sound driver from the device manager and after a reboot a crystal soundfusion(tm) cs4281 wdm audio driver was installed - but no luck with sound i'm afraid. I'm presuming that there must be asound card if startup generated the notbook to auto install the crystal software.

    Hi,
yes there is a crystal audio device available and it is normally detected by ME like in your case!
Firstly you should enter the BIOS with ESC after starting the notebook and load default settings.
Did you get the Toshiba recovery CD when you bought the notebook second hand? If yes you should recover the notebook and unless the audio device doesn't work after that it might be a hardware failure!

  • Problems with sound drivers - audio device on high definition audio bus

i turned on my computer one day and the sound was gone. no "speaker" icon in the lower right-hand corner of the screen; no choices available via the "control panel: sounds and audio devices" icon. when i went to device manager, i saw "audio device on high definition audio bus" had a yellow exclamation mark. i saw some sites suggested downloading the realtek high definition audio, but that didn't seem to work -- and now i don't see the audio device on high definition audio line either.
any ideas? from what i've read, i gather this is a somewhat common problem but no solid way to fix this. i know something similar has happened to me a year ago but i was able to fix it somehow.

    Hello,
Have you tried installing the latest audio device drivers for your ThinkPad?  If so, did that solve the problem?

  • Audigy 2 ZS Surround Sound Problem - Please He

Hi, I have been using The Audigy 2 ZS sound card for over a year now, I have all the latest drivers installed and everything is updated.
My problem is, for some reason my 5. surround sound just stopped working. I did not change any of the settings, in creative settings or the control panel. All the cables and wires are plugged in to the correct spot. I checked the control panel and the creative speaker settings, and both are set at 5. surround sound. I have done the channel and noise tests with the speakers and I get sound in ALL of the speakers, yet when I try and play music through itunes and sound through games, it is only in the front left and front right speaker. Al lthe programs I have tested with have the 5. surround sound set in their options.
Like I said, the surround sound was working fine two days ago, and without changing any speaker settings or unplugging any cables, the surround sound stopped working.
I have looked through other threads trying to find a similar problem, but I did not turn up any good results. If you find any other threads that have a solution to this problem just link them and I will take a look at them (and sorry for the repeated thread).
    Thank you for your time.
Edit: Anyone help? Message Edited by Cofer on 09-20-2006 09:07 PM

What happened is when you installed the new itunes 7 it messed around with all of your files for the sound check and as a result when u are using sound check your speakers will not work correctly (I just fixed this problem). To fix it, simply go into the edit menu, then preferences and then click on the playback tab. In that tab the third box you can check off from the top should be sound check. Simply uncheck that box and you should be fine.
    Good Luck

  • Surround sound problems with new 15.11 software

Firstly I would like to give a big thankyou for getting the new IP recording software release out it is very welcome.
Unfortunately this has highlighted even more the surround sound issue for me. All my tests have been done over optical (if anyone could repeat the tests over HDMI it would be very much appreciated just to see if there is any difference).
Here are my findings so far with a small amount of testing.
    BT TV on Demand
HD 5.1 movies appear to switch correctly
SD and HD none multi surround movies appear to play in stereo from the start needing the menu/surround workaround applying to get surround sound as is the same for the tv box sets and kids on demand.
    IP Channels
HD sports channels i.e. BT Sports 1,2 and ESPN (I have hidden the SD versions so haven't tested them) appear to a switch to surround sound correctly
All other channels start in stereo and require the AD button on/off workaround to switch to surround sound.
    IP Channel Recordings
Here lies the real problem for me now. Any IP channel recordings (not tested sports channels yet) start in stereo and require the AD on/off button workaround to switch to surround sound BUT as soon as you apply a fast forward or rewind when it starts to play again it has switched back to the stereo feed which is a much higher volume. I hope you can appreciate how annoying this gets that everytime you fast forward/rewind a recorded IP channel to sound switches and starts playing at a higher volume until the workaround is applied (everytime).
Obviously the freeview channels all appear to switch and work fine.
I am sure there is more to find but I just felt it worthwhile getting the issue highlighted AGAIN now the recording ability increases the visibility of this bug.

Maybe slightly harse as with more testing I am not sure if this is a youview/humax issue and is a problem on the catchup player on youview retail also. I have added below to my first post slightly with a few more findings and some clarity.
When I say surround sound what I am talking about is the Dolby Digital track (this can be 5.1 or 2.0 but in 2.0 format my amp can encode that with pro logic 2 and make it sound like a reasonable surround sound track through my speakers).
After testing through HDMI sound I find that this is even worse and in most cases will not transmit the Dolby 2.0 track at all even using the workarounds.
The freeview HD channels work flawlessly as do the BT sports HD channels (all 3 inc ESPN) (non-HD freeview channels do not appear to carry anything but standard stereo so can't switch no matter what). If anyone has a surround setup check the difference in volume between channel 001 (BBC non HD) and channel 101 (BBC HD) this I believe is the difference between the standard stereo channel and the dolby 2.0 stereo channel.
All IP channels (except sports) fail to automatically select the Dolby 2.0 soundtrack unless forced, as do the catch up channels (tested during programme playback as no Dolby during the adverts) and if recorded switch back to standard stereo everytime a skip/rewind step is made.
Most on-demand content fail to switch automatically to the Dolby 2.0 track but can be forced with the exception of some HD movies with 5.1 soundtracks that appear to work without a workaround.

  • 6.1 surround sound problem

I am running digital out of the Sound Blaster Platinum into a 6.1 surround sound home theatre system. When I test audio I only get sound out of the front left, right, and center speakers. When I go to test the rear speakers the sound check comes through the front.
If I play a audio file. I do get sound out of the rear speakers.
Speakers are hooked up correctly to the home theatre system. I get surround sound if I play a DVD through the DVD player but not through the computer.
Any ideas on what that problem is or how to correct it....
    onboard sound is disconnected

I have the opposite problem, but i think is the cable i'm using, i haven't found an original for 6.1 speakers. i can get noise test sound in all 6.1 channels, but i can not get sound sub when i play music
    what cable do you used?

  • Our home network has multiple devices connected by iCloud. Having problem with Calendar. On one iMac, all the events are duplicated. How can I correct that problem? Under the Calendar accounts, I had my Apple id listed and also just iCloud.

Our home network has multiple devices connected by iCloud: 2 iMacs, 2 iPhone 4s, 1 MacPro Laptop, and 1 iPad 2.  When using Calendar, all the events were
duplicated on my husbands iMac.  On his computer, under Calendar accounts, I had included iCloud and also my iCloud ID.  I thought that because I had two accounts listed that were connected to iCloud, that might be the cause of the duplication.  When I deleted ithe calendars from one of the accounts, it resulted
in deleting all of the events on all of our network devices!
I have since entered some new events into Calendar from my iMac and from my iPhone.  These appear correctly on all devices except my husband's iMac where they are again all duplicated.
I have two questions: 1)  How can I eliminate the duplicated events on my husband's computer and 2) How do I retrieve the old wiped out Calendar events from
Time Capsule.  I don't know how to find Calendar in the Time Capsule.  If I find the Calendar information in Time Capsule, how do I transfer it to my current Calendars?
I was obtaining phone help from one of the Apple techs at Apple Support, but our call was disconnected part way through.  Didn't know how to reconnect with the tech.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Creative speaker settup test problem.... surround sound test prob

OK this seems to be a hard concept for the support staff at creative to grasp so hopefully someone out there can help me..... OK? I have a Audigy 2 XZ platinum sound card with?the creative?7. speakers. it has worked fine in the past. recently when I go into the speaker setup and do a test to see if all the speakers are working correctly.... front left...front center...front right.... now this is when things get stupid.... rather than it continuing to the side right speaker..... the side right "sound" comes out of the front right speaker.... and it does the same for the rear right.... then to the rear left but this time it comes out of the front left speaker?and the same thing for the side left. I did a reinstall of windows and did a speaker test.... I was happy to see that it was fixed all the correct sounds were being heard from the correct speakers. I thought this was over with until I just ran a test again and it is back. It seems that all surround sound features don't work, none of my games nothing. if anyone knows how to fix this that would be awesome.... it is really pissing me off.
    things I have tried....
I have tried completely removing all drivers software and my sound card hardware and reinstalling everything..... does not work. I have tried to install new drivers..... no good. I want to say that after I installed the new updated drivers is when it started acting dumb. Anyways thanks for the help in advanced.

well I have been trying to figure this out... I am pretty sure its something to do with the drivers.... when I go in DXDIAG and run the sound tests it is saying that my Audigy 2 zs does not support hardware buffering? it seems that it is using the generic sound driver rather then the correct creative driver... I jsut dont know how to fix it.

This idea should be quite feasable if you have a good utility for configuring speakers. i know the audigy 2 series has this. the relati've volumes of each set will need to be balanced.
