5.1 to home theater receiver thru Optical Out not working; Fatality Platinum

I tried connecting the Optical Out on the front to my receiver's optical in. Made sure everything was set to 5. in both the Creative and receiver settings, and the receiver gets optical 5. just fine with my Play Station version 3 and X-box version 360 gaming computers. Please help, I have tried reboot, messing with settings, Google, I cannot fix this.
Jinwoo from great korea!

Hi I have the same probleme, exept that I have succesfuly pluged my home theater receiver and the 5.1 works. Just my subwoofer seems not to work properly. Like when I plug it into a digital dvd player it works very nicely. but when pluged into the sound card it seems that it dosnt have any signal for it.
ANy clues??? I know i pluged everything finely I have tested the sound test for each speaker and sub to, from the receiver and from the creative software the sub seems to work but very quietly even if I cran the volume up on the sub or in the software , the sub dont work as it should.
1 thing I remarqued is that the sub works occasionaly in some movies. When listening to the music it not working and I dont understand that.

  • Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium Optical Out not working???

    Hey friends,
I purchased a Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium PCIe yesterday to run on Windows 7 64bit to trigger VSTi instruments. I can hear the VSTi play fine when I have headphones plugged into the soundcard but I want to send the audio sound OUT via the Optical Out into my Steinberg MR86x firewire audio card. ?
I can see the light on the optical cable but no sound seems to be being sent from the sound blaster into the steinberg card.
?Now before people start saying you cant do that, I have have been doing this for the last 3 years and it has been great apart from my RME Audio card is not compatible with Windows 7 64bit hence why I purchased the soundblaster.
I really am at a loss as to what I can try next, I have been through this forum and tried a few recommended tweaks but nothing? Am I missing something obvious here?
I am using the following drivers
    Driver: v2.7.008 Windows 7 64bit
DTS Connect: for Windows 7 64bit
Also in the Audio Control Panel / SPDIF I/O all options are greyed out apart from the Digital Output tickbox, I only want to use this card for Audio as in creating music or specifically for triggering VST synths.
I would really appreciate any advice
    Thanks in advance

Re: Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium Optical Out not working?I have same card, same?OS?and lots of problems.
Analog outputs(control panel->sound->speakers) disappears when boot or reboot, sometimes it works week, sometimes a hours. When it works, it's works ok, but suddenly during boot,?all sounds is lost, when trying launch for example Creative Audio Control Panel this message appears: There are no supported audio device available. You need to close the application. Click OK to close the application now.
And when analog outputs disappears, no any sound via SPDIF, even it shows in notification area and control panel->sound and in device manager.
I have owned card about two months, once change card in warranty, and?several uninstall, cleaning traces, reinstall and card works for while?and?out of blue, when boot computer, no sounds at all and only way to get sounds back is driver uninstall, cleaning and reinstall.
Creative Customer Support seems to be clueless, but make Technical Support Request if problems continue. And all other too, if problems like that appears, contact to Creative, maybe they really try?to do?something abuot it and not just send instructions how to uninstall and reinstall drivers.

  • Optical out not working, or is it the reciever...

I just received a Belkin PureAV 6ft. Optical Cable with Mini Toslink Adapter today, in fact I opened it about 1 hour ago. My Denon AVR-65 doesn't seem to receive the optical signal from my Mac Mini at all. It at least won't lock on to the signal's frequency. I have tried changing the signal frequency, restarting the A/V receiver numerous times, and had no luck finding a manual for the system. I'm desperate to et my 5.1 working! Help!

    There are probably more reasons at the Denon end why it might not work;
Does your Denon receiver have assignable inputs? You may have to get in to the receive's menu, and tell it to recognize the cable at the input you have it connected to.
In addition, make sure the mini's output is set to the optical/digital jack in system prefs; you may also have to get in to audio/midi settings to get it working.

  • ATV2: Optical Out not working / No TV

I have an extra Apple TV 2 that I wanted to hook to a stereo receiver I have - it is an older receiver w/ optical inputs, but no HDMI.  There is no TV around - I just want to use airplay and/or the remote app to select songs from my library to play through the optical connection to the receiver.
I hooked up the optical out directly to the stereo system and configured it all to work, but the ATV will not send any audio out.
I did more testing by hooking the ATV up to my main system, which has a TV.  If I connected only the optical cable I could never get any sound.  If I also connected the HDMI then once I switched to the HDMI input I would get sound from both the HDMI and optical outputs (I had both configured to go to different inputs on the receiver so I could check).  Once I had selected the HDMI input once, the optical would work as long as the ATV was on.  Once I set the ATV to sleep, then woke it up, the optical would no longer work until I would select the HDMI input source on the receiver - then audio would work again over both channels.
Is this expected behavior?  It almost looks as though the ATV is purposely not outputting data until it has confirmed an HDMI connection on the other side - meaning it would be impossible for me to get this to work with just the optical connection.  However, I have read other posts here making it sound like it should work just fine.  Any ideas?  I really don't want to have to get a new receiver just to connect HDMI.
If it matter the receiver I have is a HK AVR140.  It should support whatever encoding format is coming from the TV.  I've tried tweaking the Dolby Digital configuration and the 16-bit one too - I haven't seen much else to configure on the ATV.
I have checked to ensure I have the latest software release as well.
    Thanks for any input.

The "latest software release" is the problem. What you tried to do would have worked any time over the last year since the ATV2's release, prior to the three bug-ridden 4.4 "updates" of last month, which broke this feature for everyone who bought the ATV2 to use as an AirPlay bridge to their stereo system. That would seem to be a lot of people, as it's been a frequent topic of discussion, with new threads popping up daily for weeks by people who've just discovered the bug. • Optical out not working

When I plug an optical cable (with the right 3,5mm optical plug) into the headphone jack of my iMac, it is not recognized as an optica digital output. In the system preferences, the sound output changes from "internal speakers" to "headphones".
On my MacMini however, the sound output will change from "internal speaker" to "optical digital out"
I wondered if my iMac really has an optical digital out, and the system profiler is positive on this. Could the optical out be faulty?

  • After update to version 4.4 optical out not working

Does anybody experience the same problem? After todays update to ios5 (version 4.4) the optical output does not work anymore. I have the problem on all Apple TV's with different audio systems. Any help?

I also have an issue on my Apple TV, but unsure if it is the ports out or the device itself.  I have tried resetting it, reboting Airport, nothing works....
I was streaming some Radio music while performing the update and it simply stopped...as I thought it was an odd coincidence, I decided to do an update to the Apple TV.  It stated it would be a bit less than 20 min to update.  I checked on it in about an hour and the TV no longer displayed the device and the device itself was blinking rapidly.
I also tried to reset it via the remote...holding down the buttons for 6 seconds...I tried 3 or 3 times.  The light acted as if it was resetting, but it then reverted back to the rapid blinking.
I need to get this resolved....

  • Apple TV running 5.0, optical out not working, no sound

I just updated my apple tv to 5.0, hooked it up to my projector (HDMI) and to my Cambridge Audio Azur 640R for audio (optical cable). Unfortunately, no sound comming from the apple tv. Red light shines through the cable, already did a factory reset on the apple tv, played around with the audio settings on the apple tv, restarting it every time... no sound... and the receiver is set to recieve digital audio (tested it using another device to make sure).
    any suggestions?

Just a small update to all of you. Apple's engineering department just contacted me and we went through the procedure I do to play a movie (without sound) while it records this action as a profile then sent to apple. This is a good thing I guess cause it means Apple is very much aware and actively pursuing a solution.
So anyone reading this, create your own discussion or take an active part in one so that apple can contact you too to gather data and get this sorted ASAP!
I have a hunch this to some extent stems from AppleTV automatically configuring optical output to match the capability of the device connected over HDMI which will give AppleTv a 'list' of audio and video modes.
If for example a TV can only handle stereo digital audio over HDMI this then forces the same over optical when DD set to Auto.  So in my case, here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3822239?tstart=0
...setting DD to On forces audio out to DD over HDMI and optical so I get DD on the amp but no audio on the non-DD capable TV over HDMI.
I wonder with some of these projector setups if the device is returning no audio capability at all when handshaking, maybe in some cases if connected via an HDMI to DVI adapter/cable, or if the device simply has no audio capability at all.

  • Connecting HDTV/Dig Cable/Wii/Home Theater Receiver

I have a Samsung 600series HDTV, Yamaha Home Theater Receiver, AT&T Uverse Digital cable box and Nintendo Wii. What is the best way using HDMI and an optical audio cable(s) to route everything through my Receiver? I want to minimize the amount of cables running behind the wall up to my TV.
    Right now I have:
    - HDMI from Digital cable box up to HDTV
    - HDMI from Receiver to HDTV
    - Optical audio from HDTV to Receiver
    - Wii not currently set up b/c I when connected to the Receiver I couldn't find the proper setting to get this to work
In the current set up, I get full audio out of all 5.1 surround sound speakers with the radio, but when the TV/Cable is on I only get sound from the front L & R. I'm sure it has something to with with my set up because I know all 5 speakers work...
    thanks for your help,
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

We use the second set up. Works just fine for us. Routes everything neatly to the receiver with one easy to conceal hdmi cable to the t.v.

  • Hooking up MBP to home theater receiver: Surround sound for games?

I'm looking for a way to hook up my MBP to my home theater receiver to play games in surround sound. From what I've read, it sounds like the digital optical out will only provide 5.1 sound for DVDs, not games.
I have also read about the Griffin Firewave which supposedly provides 5.1 sound from the firewire port...however, it looks like there are five separate outputs from that device (center, and both front and rear speakers), and my receiver's inputs are not arranged in this way, so I don't think this will work for my setup.
Anyone know of a way to do this successfully? It's looking like it's not possible, but wanted to see if there were any solutions I was missing. Thanks!

I have a HP Pavilion g6-1c57dx Notebook PC with Windows 7
The display adapter is 'Intel (R) HD Graphics family.

    Can anyone help?

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums
You can either connect your tv to your receiver using either HDMI or component (existing tv only) and then connect your receiver to the TV by the connection of your choice depending on what is available on both your TV and your receiver.
Alternatively, you can continue to connect your tv to your TV in your current configuration and use the optical audio connection to connect your tv to your receiver for audio only.

  • Home Theater receiver users should read this for enabling dolby digi

I have an onkyo 5. dts / dolby digital receiver, and an audigy 2 zs platinum. i am using an optical cable from the front panel on the audigy to the optical in on my receiver. My receiver manual says it is a 96 khz receiver. I am using a 2 pin cable from my dvd player to the audigy. When using a dvd, I can not get dolby digital sound to my receiver. I have set the audigy to spdif pass through, i have tried 48khz, 96khz, every combination of everything. Setting to 2. speakers, 5. speakers, but yet i am stuck with either stereo sound if set to 96khz, or dolby prologic II if set to 48khz.
Another thing i tried was using a dvd image i created on my hard dri've from a dvd, and playing it through alcohol 20%, to see if it was my dvd player giving the problems. I still get the exact same results when playing a dolby digital source through the hard dri've.
So, in the end, is it actually possible to have dolby digital from the audigy 2 zs platinum through a home theater receiver, or not?

I am feeling the same way about this card. It would be nice if somebody from creative could respond with a definite correct way to get dolby digital to my home theater receiver. Im sick of being plagued with problems.. no dolby digital, random stopping of sound which requires me to reinstall drivers, popping noises every so often, etc etc etc..
seriuosly... an m-audio revolution is starting to sound pretty appealing.
edit: I would also like to note that my box does say front panel optical out for 5. support, unlike the previous poster had said it says stereo only. I am able to get dolby digital if i switch to my onboard nforce soundstorm or whatever it is.
PS. I am not going to let this thread drop down until I have a definiti've answer on whether it is possible to have dolby digital through my audigy 2 zs platinum and home theater receiver. I paid $200 for this card, and I really would appreciate a straight forward definite answer.Message Edited by jonnybruno on 0-9-2005 09:4 AM

  • What is the best way to connect to home theater receiver ?

what is the best way to connect iPhone to home theater receiver?

    For audio, video, or both?
    Audio:
    I use AirPlay.
If your receiver doesn't support AirPlay, you might try USB or Bluetooth.
If it's an older model that doesn't support any of the above, the mini-stereo-to-RCA cable may be your best option.
    Video:
    Try the Apple A/V cable.
