[5/16GB] almost no space left

Hi guys!
So I have 1 iPhone 5 16GB.
I am using iTunes Match and Photos in the cloud, so there are only a few photos and _no mp3 files whatsoever_ saved ont he device.
In addition: No big 3D games, just a few apps, ...
Still: I have only 1GB of space left and I really have no idea where all my flash space has gone!
According to iTunes more than 8GB are "other" files!!
Maybe there are some temporary download files from iOS updates and such still saved which should be deleted? I tried one of these cleanup softwares for the mac but id didn't do anything as the free version just scans. I could do it manually but I need some input on where (in which folders) to look on the device.
Can anyone help?
Thanks!
cheers, P

So apparently Apple screwed up how iOS saves partly downloaded files from the iCloud. iOS all stores these in "Media/CloudAssets" ... which was over 6GB in size on my iPhone! :/
Deleted them all and I am now sitting at 2,2 GB "Other" files. Still no idea where these 2,2GB are but still improved a lot!

  • After updating my iPad 3, I have almost no space left, yet I deleted all my photos, videos, and emails. What else needs to be deleted?

My iPad 3 is for school, so I take a ton of notes on notability. I just updated it recently, and I have almost no space. My iPad has a 16 GB capacity, and my usage says I have used up 13.3 GB. I deleted all my photos, all my videos, most of my music, almost all of my notes, and 75% of all my apps. But everyday it seems like there is more space being used up. I don't get it. It's making my iPad shut down randomly and is not letting me take any photos, even though I have no photos!! It is very annoying! Help!

  • Lenovo ix4-300d free space left

Hello, I have an Lenovo ix4-300d, 8TB. My free space on the servers tells me that there is left 3.8TB, when I look in my Share there is almost no space left. What can I do to get more space in my shares? Now I receive the following message: The amount of free space on your Lenovo ix4-300d is below 10% of your total capacity. And that should not be the case!? What can I do? Thanks for a reaction, PPU
    PPU

I am sorry but I am not sure what you are referring to by MIB, are you trying yo use Management Information base to monitor free space? Can you please explain more what you are trying to do?
You can manage the free space through LenovoEMC storage manager and we UI. You can even set it up to email you when you are running out of free space.

  • When looking at my "About This Mac" it says that I have 60gb of space left on my hard drive, but when I go into finder to find all of these files there is not 300gb worth in anything I search, even searching, "All files on the Mac". Help!?

When looking at my "About This Mac" it says that I have 60gb of space left on my hard drive, but when I go into finder to find all of these files there is not 300gb worth in anything I search, even searching, "All files on the Mac". Help!?
It says I have over 150 gigs of video on my hard drive. But I have gone through and deleted almost all of what shows up, still it says there is roughly the same amount on the hard drive. Where are these files? I want to delete them so I can have my hard drive clear.
    Thanks for your help guys!

    Quote from the article.
Time Machine in OS X Lion includes a new feature called "local snapshots" that keeps copies of files you create, modify or delete on your internal disk. Local snapshots compliment regular Time Machine backups (that are stored on your external disk or Time Capsule) giving you a "safety net" for times when you might be away from your external backup disk or Time Capsule and accidentally delete a file.
So what makes a notebook any different then a desktop, other then with a desktop you might have your tm backup drive connected all the time.
The object here is to not indiscriminately delete files you need or want to keep. I personally have never deleted a file I wanted to keep.
In essence a backup is for catastrophic failure of your system. So it can be restored once that failure has been fixed. Not because you go in willy nilly and start deleting files.

  • IPhone not syncing all iPhoto pix even though Gigs of space left on iPhone?

    Hello,
    I have a 16GB iPhone.
    My iPhoto Library is 2.5GB.
I've "albumed" all my photos in iPhoto.
When syncing my iPhone I've only selected a couple of albums (no more than about 2GB's worth).
For some reason, my iPhone won't accept all the pictures I have selected, even though their collective size is far less than the capacity of the phone. Some of the pictures have loaded but when I try and sync again, I get an error message stating, "No photos were copied to the iPhone because there is not enough free space on the iPhone to hold your photos and albums"....even though according to iTunes own "Capacity Bar", I still have 1.75GB of free space left on my iPhone.
Now, here's something else that is weird that I don't understand.
    My iPhoto library is 2.5GB.
My iTunes "Capacity Bar" says that the partial amount of photos that I've already synced from iPhoto to my iPhone is 11.62GB?
How can that be? How can the same amount of pictures be 2.5GB on my computer and 11.62GB on my iPhone?
Can anybody explain this to me?
    Am I missing something?
    Thanks,
    Justin

I'm having a similar problem, I have 70MB of memory remaining, which I know isn't a lot, but I have less than 1 MB of photos I'm trying to sync, and it refuses to let me have them. I can put a 50 MB app on at this point with no problem, but this 1MB of photos keeps hitting some kind of wall.

  • New to Linux - Getting Error No Space left on device when installing Oracle packages.

    Hello all,
I'm new to linux and was in the process of installing the packages needed for Oracle 11g R2 on Ubuntu 12.04 got a message stating that there was no space left. It seems as though I should have plenty of space because I am installing it on 16GB RAM 480 GB HARD DRIVE Machine with nothing else on it but the operating system and Ubuntu Desktop.
It seems I am running out of space in the /root and /var directories and am not sure how to rectify this.
Can someone assist me with this.
    Thank you.

df -h is one of the commands that will show you disk usage and partitions size.
Since you have desktop you could check this with some gui tool also.
First aid could be to resize your root partition and add more space to it.
Check on Google for how to resize partition using gparted.
Ubuntu is not certified for Oracle but you could still get the same error with other certified distributions.
First you should plan how and where to install database(where oracle home will be, datafiles etc.), then depending on that how to partition hard disk/s(separate root and home partitions or not, etc.), and then decide what is the appropriate size of your partitions.

  • I doesn't have any space left on my MacBook Pro what can I do?

Hi can please get some help with this: my macbookpro retina doesn't have any disk space left and you can't upgrade it, what can I do?

your computer is NOT a storage device
    clear cut case
You need to change the premise of your SSD use.
    see here:
Your Solid State Drive and having enough space inside your Macbook Air & Pro
Solid State Drive usage premise, or the “more space / upgrade SSD” question
There have been questions posed and positions taken by many people who are trying to use their Macbook Air or Pro’s solid state drive (SSD) as a mass media storage device, for either pictures, videos, massive music collections or all three combined; but this should not be the working premise of a ‘limited’ SSD and its use.
In which, it’s the case of those users with either 128GB, 256GB, or even 512GB of internal SSD space, that have or are running “out of space”, that questions are raised. The immediate premise of some users can sometimes be “(how to / if) upgrading my SSD” when in fact in nearly all instances another approach is the logical and sensible one that needs to be looked into and exercised.
Any Macbook containing a SSD should be idealized as a ‘working platform’ notebook containing all your applications, documents, and weekly or bi-weekly necessary files. All collections of media files such as pictures, music, and videos, unless directly needed should be kept off the notebook and on an external hard drive or likewise. While the ‘working platform’ premise is also the case with larger internal conventional hard drives of 1TB+, its implementation isn't as critical except in terms of data protection.
Realistically, you should at most coordinate roughly 20 to 25% of your total SSD space to all audio-video personal use media (picture / music / video collections), leaving the remaining amount on an external HD.
Nobody should consider any notebook a data storage device at any time under any circumstance, rather a data creation, sending, and manipulation device; and in the case of a SSD, this is more important for purposes of having sufficient working space on the SSD and reducing SSD ‘bloat’ in which cases someone is wrongly attempting to use the SSD space as a large media storage nexus.
The rare exception to the collective usage and premise of SSD use in which a much larger SSD is truly needed are for those in video and photography professions that require both the extremely fast speeds of the SSD and the onboard storage for large and or many video and photography files. However this also falls under the premise of a ‘working platform’ for such peoples rather than the intent of many who are using the SSD as passive and static data storage for media files very infrequently needed or accessed.
All on-notebook data collections should be logically approached as to necessity, and evaluated as to whether it is active or passive data that likely doesn’t need to be on the notebook, allocations of space-percentages to as-needed work and use, apportioning space for your entertainment media, and questioning whether it should it be on the notebook for more than short-term consumption.
Considerations should be made in the mind of any user in differentiating the necessary system data (System hub) comprising the Mac OSX, applications, necessary documents that both must and should be on your internal SSD, and that of the users personal data (Data hub) comprising created files, pictures, music, videos, PDF files, data created or being created and otherwise, that likely unless being used soon or often should be parked on an external hard drive for consumption, or temporarily loading onto the internal SSD.
You both can and should purchase whichever SSD size you need or see fit, but even in the case of the largest of SSD, unless use-considerations are made, and SSD spaces are allocated as should be the case indicated above, one can easily and immediately run into this quandary of “needing more internal SSD space”, in which instance a different approach in usage must then be implemented.
However it is almost always the case, that such large media files are wanted to be stored internally rather than actually needed, in which case the external HD is both prudent as well as necessary. Additionally costs per MB are infinitely less on an external HD than an internal SSD in any consideration of data expansion needs.
    A Professional Example
In the case of a Macbook Air or Macbook Pro Retina with ‘limited’ storage on the SSD, this distinction becomes more important in that in an ever rapidly increasing file-size world, you keep vital large media files, pics, video, PDF collections, music off your SSD and archived on external storage, for sake of the necessary room for your system to have free space to operate, store future applications and general workspace.
You should also never be put in the position of considering “deleting things” on your Macbook SSD in order to ‘make space’. This is especially what your external HD is for.
Professionals who create and import very large amounts of data have almost no change in the available space on their notebooks internal SSD because they are constantly archiving data to arrays of external or networked HD.
Or in the case of the consumer this means you keep folders for large imported or created data and you ritually offload and archive this data for safekeeping, not only to safeguard the data in case your Macbook has a SSD crash, or gets stolen, but importantly in keeping the ‘breathing room’ open for your notebook to operate, expand, create files, add applications, for your APPS to create temp files, and for general operation.
Slim USB3 1TB external hard drive
    External Hard Drives
External hard drives are both extremely cheap and regardless of the size of your internal SSD (or even internal hard drive if the case), you need an external hard drive with your SSD equipped Macbook for several reasons:
    1. Data backup and protection.
    2. Redundancy for important data.
    3. Necessitated ideal space for large media files for collections of pictures, videos, and music etc.
While ever changing in price, typical portable 2.5” external hard drives in USB3 run roughly $65 for 1TB or $120 for 2TB small portable USB3 hard drives. Such drives range in thickness between 5mm and 15mm, with recent improvements in storage of 500GB drives in 5mm profiles.
There is almost no premise in which a small 12mm thick 1 Terabyte USB hard drive cannot be taken along with any Macbook as an external large storage extension inside any Macbook carry case or pouch. Typically such external HD profiles are not much bigger than a deck of cards.
External hard drives are a foregone necessity for purchase with any Macbook for at the very least Time Machine backups, data redundancies, and ideally for large media storage.

  • I keep getting the message that my startup disk is full, yet I have about 300GB of space left on my HD?  Any solutions for fixing this problem?

I keep getting the message that my startup disk is full, yet I have almost 300GB left on my hardrive.  I have emptied the trash on my desktop and in iPhoto, and I have removed unnecessary programs.  The only way I can get the message to go away is to restart my computer.  If I let the computer go to sleep, I get the message back when I start using it again.  Any suggestions?

    Mountain Lion Recovery
Boot up from your computer by holding down the command+r keys.  This will take you to the recovery drive.
Select Disk Utility & hit Return.
In Disk Utility select the HD on the left & click on Repair Disk (bottom right).
    =======================
Empty the trash in the Dock as well as iPhoto’s trash!
Open up your application folder & go through all your apps.  Trash all the apps you no longer want and/or use.
An easier way to do this is to open the Application folder in list view & press the Command+j keys.
In the the dialog that appears, click the "This Window Only" button & the "Calculate All Sizes" check box.
Wait a bit until your file & folder sizes have all been calculated, then click the "Size" column to sort your apps from the fattest to the most anorexic.
Get rid of all your photo files you don't want and/or need.  Same goes for those pics off the websites you downloaded (gifs, jpegs, etc.).  Or transfer/move them all to a photo/movie storage site like ImageShack and Photobucket, 2 of the most popular  FREE  storage sites.
Get rid of all your video & music files you no longer view and/or listen too.  Especially, if you already have the actual CD/DVDs or you can later redownload from a website.  Or transfer them all to a FREE video/movies and/or music storage site.
Use Spotlight to make sure you got rid of everything.  You can even trash directly from Spotlight!  Better yet, download this FREE software called Find File.  This app puts Spotlight to shame (works w/Mountain Lion).
Drag what you don't want and/or need to the trash.  Better yet, download this neat little shareware app *demo* called AppZapper.  It basically does all the work for you by not only trashing the apps but the apps preference files, caches & all its associated files.
Another software that does the above is AppDelete.  Best of all this software is free!
Burn what you want and/or need onto CDs or DVDs. Not everyone has the  luxury of purchasing an external HD and/or the system requirements for iCloud to store their "stuff.”
Dropbox is a free storage utility to check out.
You can check with your ISP to see if they offer *free* storage space.  Most if not all do now-a-days.   There are thousands if not millions of *free* storage facilities on the web also.  Use your favorite search engine to search them out as they come in different storage sizes to fit your needs & wants.
    Check for duplicate fonts.
    Applications>Font Book
    Select “All Fonts”
If you see any “black dots” next to any fonts this mean you have duplicates and/or multiple versions of these fonts.
    To clean this up, select a “black dotted” font or the Apple + *click* to select multiple dotted fonts;
    Edit>Resolve>Duplicates.
What the above does is turns off the duplicates & multiple version fonts.  Not delete them.
More than likely the “extras” were installed by other programs and/or other users.
    Clear out font caches
Use FontNuke.  It does all the work for you.  And, best of all it’s *FREE*.
    Printer Drivers
Get rid of all the printer drivers you don’t need & use except the ones for your *current* printer(s)/scanner(s).
    HD>Library>Printers Folder
If you accidently threw something out that you needed for your printer/scanner it can be easily obtained from the manufacturer’s website and/or from the CD that came w/the printer/scanner.
    Garage Band
Has about 1GB of loops stored.  Get rid of some some them.  You surely don’t use, like and/or need them all.
    HD>Library>Audio/Apple Loops>Apple>Apple Loops For GarageBand
Or just get rid of the Garage Band app altogether if you don’t use it.
    Get rid of extra languages
Strip your computer down to your “native” tongue.
You can do this with a *FREE* utility called Monolingual.  Another app that apparently does all the work for you.  I’ve never used it.  However, a lot of users here swear by & recommend it highly.
However, there is a warning for *native English speakers*. Make sure you keep BOTH English and English (United States).

  • Can't resize/repartition in Disk Utility: "No space left on device"

So I'm trying to get my Macbook (early 2008, base model) set up for triple-booting Leopard, Linux, and Windows XP. I've been using Boot Camp for about a month or so, and yesterday I used Boot Camp Assistant to remove the XP partition and make the Leopard partition 100% of the drive. Fine. After that, I was following this guide, and installed rEFIt to be able to choose from three operating systems on boot (as Apple's included bootloader only lets you choose Leo and Windows). Immediately after that (without restarting, maybe I should have) I tried to partition using diskutil from Terminal, with the following command:
    *sudo diskutil resizeVolume disk0s2 60G "MS-DOS FAT32" "Linux" 30G "MS-DOS FAT32" "Windows" 21G*
After going through Verifying, Resizing Volume, Adjusting Partitions, it finally giving me an error: "*Resizing encountered error on disk disk0s2 Macintosh HD: No space left on device (28)*", even though my drive is 120GB (around 111.8GiB) and I entered 60 + 30 + 21 GiB = 111 GiB. As per the above guide, I then tried:
    *sudo diskutil resizeVolume disk0s2 60G*
The above command should resize my main volume to 60GiB and leave empty space after. It also fails the same way. I then tried doing it using Disk Utility, but it gave me the same error. (Keep in mind that I am in Leopard during all this). I then attempt to restart, to see if maybe rEFIt changed something. I could not restart, due to my Mac not finding a boot drive (flashing folder with question mark). After a while of troubleshooting, I finally burned a rEFIt emergency CD and booted. I selected something like "Repair boot record" and restarted, which got rid of the flashing folder problem, but gave me "Cannot find operating system". I booted from the rEFIt CD again and selected "Boot from hard drive", which finally got me to boot Leopard. I went yet again into Terminal and tried a repairDisk, but I don't think that worked (since I was running off the internal drive). I booted from my Leopard CD and opened Disk Utility and tried: repairing the disk, repairing permissions, and partitioning. Repairing didn't find any errors, but partitioning gave me the same error as before, even though it is impossible to partition more than available in Disk Utility. I am currently sitting in Terminal, running off my Leopard CD, trying to figure out how to fix this. I have tried searching Google to no avail
Anyone have any idea on how to fix this? I could even do a reinstall if necessary, since I have a backup (good old Time Machine).
    Summary:
Can boot from drive after booting rEFIt CD.
    Can boot from Leopard CD.
    Error when trying to partition.
    Goal: make 3 partitions.
    Thanks much!
    Josh

    Update:
If I choose my boot partition as the Startup Disk while booted from the Leopard DVD and let it restart, it boots successfully. If I try to restart after that, I get "Error loading operating system" again.

  • It says I've got 12,3 GB free space left, of my total 25GB. But my iPhone tells me there is no more space to take pictures or download stuff. It clearly says I have 12,3 GB left. What's the issue here??

The issue is probably space on the phone, not in your iCloud account.  (Space in your iCloud account does not give you more space on your phone.)  Check Settings>General>Usage at the top to see how much available space you have.  If it's low, you'll have to delete or sync something off our phone to make room for more.

md5sums changed... is this out of date?
Comment by: liquidsunshine on Tue, 14 Apr 2009 03:07:28 +0000
Also, you might want to fix the line in the PKGBUILD that says:
    pkgdesc="upload files to the AUR"
since it's not really accurate. =)
Comment by: Xyne on Wed, 15 Apr 2009 04:51:31 +0000
You just don't know about the hidden options :P
Sorry about the md5sum change. I've been updating nearly everything at once (refactoring, adding man pages, changing my build and upload scripts, changing the site backend, etc) and I haven't reached a stable point yet. Thanks for letting me know about it.
The funny thing is that I'm so tired right now and bouncing back and forth between so many things that I only saw the pkgdesc at first. I thought this was aurploader (where the desc came from) and thought you meant it should be "upload pkgs to the AUR" instead of "files"... and ended up discovering that they've changed the AUR submit form so I had to update aurploader (and fix all my package categories).

Haha! Glad I helped you discover something then. I love the program by the way. It makes cron useful on a laptop! =)

missing dependency: fmodex .. or rather, it can't find its libs directory.
Doing LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/df_linux/libs dwarffortress fixed this problem.
But then another problem appears: It can't find the index file and says it must be in the data folder.
Running the game as root works.

Wooops.. the person I had test it must have had that installed. Can you elaborate on the second error? The tester didn't mention anything about it. I can't test it at the moment myself. I'll try to get another pkgrel out tonight though.
Comment by: marenz on Thu, 28 Jan 2010 14:20:48 +0000
Well, Thats about all it says really.
I straced it and found that it tries to open data/index with READ-WRITE mode, but the file is owned by root and has only the READ right set.
After chowning it to root:games and setting it to chmod g+w it started. however, trying to create a world resulted in a segfault.
Doing chmod g+w on all files in data fixed it.

    New arch release.
Plus, this version is not building - 404 not found error.

All you have to do is bump the packageversion to "1.2.8" and release to "1".
    Don't forget the MD5sum too =-)

You ought to read my last post under yours ;-)
The proper way of making the present PKGBUILD is that--> e.g. provides=("smplayer=${_latestver}") , since I inform pacman for the real version of the package.
And I'm actually having as depedency the "extra" mplayer.
    Comment by: b4283 on Fri, 25 Dec 2009 07:55:16 +0000
    hi, about the smplayer.desktop file.
i think you should use the %f argument for the Exec line instead of %u
because it's not necessary to translate filenames into URLs on a unicode-able system like linux

Me and my partner are currently using the same apple id and have no space left on our devices. We are currently waiting on the iphone 6 plus to arrive and don't know how to transfer all data to the new phones.?

I don't know if I'm asking this all in a way that can be understood? Thanks ED3K, however that part I do understand (in the link you provided!)
What I need to know is "how" I can separate or rather create another Apple ID for my son-who is currently using "my Apple ID?" If there is a way to let him keep "all" his info on his phone (eg-contacts, music, app's, etc.) without doing a "reset?') Somehow I need to go into his phone's setting-create a new Apple ID and possibly a new password so he can still use our combined iCloud & Itunes account?
Also then letting me take back my Apple ID & password, but again allowing us (my son and I) to use the same iCloud & Itunes account? Does that make more sense??? I'm sincerely trying to get this cleared up once and for all----just need guidance from someone who has a true understanding of the whole Apple iCloud/Itunes system!
Thanks again for "anyone" that can help me!!!

  • Creating a folder results in "no space left on device"?

    Hi again,
today I encountered the following problem: trying to create a folder on one of my Xsan volumes resulted in a "no space left on device" error, although there are still 3.81 TB available.
I also tried copying a disk image of 160 MB to the volume which failed as well. Copying a plain file of 256 MB which I created using dd went just fine.
Creating a folder from the terminal resulted in an error, too.
    Any hints anyone?
    Thanks,
    Stephan

But what I don't get is why a single flat file can be still copied to the volume. Does a folder need "more" meta-data than a flat file?
Theoreticaly an interesting question. (which I do not have the answer for). In your situation I would focus on the full pool problem.
Probably your volume setting for storage allocation is still at the default "round robin". When you added a new pool you should have put it at "Balance". You still should do it now.
After that, you take some material which is on the full pool. Later you put it back. It should go to the most empty pool now.
There are also ways from the snfsdefrag command to accomplish this. Please read the manpage.

I have very little space left on the hard drive on my macbook, on my storage report it says "other" is taking up more than two thirds of the space on the hardrive. How can I identify what these files are?

    Hello,
There is free software you can download that gives you a graphical image of what files are used on your hard drive. http://www.derlien.com/
This may help you clean down your hard drive for more space.
