5.3.1 in Software Update; Won't Install
I'm updating a computer to the latest software. It has AirPort Utility 5.2.2. Software Update shows the 5.3.1 update, but it won't install. When I launch a downloaded 5.3.1 updater, it shows no qualifying volumes. It seems that the updater only works with a computer that already has AirPort Utility 5.3. It strikes me as bizarre that Software Update shows an update that can't be installed on the computer.
By the way, the 5.3.1 update seems to be really an updater rather than a complete replacement for the application. It's only 1/4th the size of the application itself.
Some corrections to my prior post:
1) I tried again and was able to install AirPort 5.3.1 on that computer from the stand-alone updater. It's possible that earlier I was trying to install the Tiger version by mistake.
2) Maybe 8.8MB IS enough for a complete installation of the AirPort Utility...
The issue still stands of why Software Update presented an update that it wasn't able to install.

Software updates won't install. HELP.
My software updates (e.g., Adobe Flash, Amazon MP3 Downloader) download but won't install. The installation just stalls at the beginning. What is the problem, and how can I fix it?
Exactly which iMac do you have, and what version of OS X?

Software update won't install.
I downloaded today's software update, which included updates to system software and I think security, but it won't. complete the installation and now I can't use my MacBook at all. The little wheel just keeps spinning around and around. I restarted a couple of times, but it's no better. Anyone else have this problem?
Unfortunately neither Safe Boot nor resetting NVRAM/PRAM did the trick. I ended up with the grey screen and spinning gear again. I actually have to go away for a week --this will be a good excuse for not doing any work while I'm gone ;-) -- and I may be taking a trip to the Apple store soon after I get back.
Thanks for trying. -

Hi,
I have a laptop running Vista Home Premium SP1. I have the latest version of Nokia PC Suite and the previous version of software updater 1.4.53en. I have a Nokia 6300 running 6.60. I noticed that a new version of the firmware has been released 7.00 and tried to install this.
When I launched the updater the system confirms that a newer version of the updating software is available. It downloads this but then on installation an error confirming "The version of Nokia Software Updater already installed on this computer is newer than the one you are trying to install. Installation will not continue." I then tried manually downloading the update file from Nokia site and the error message issued was the same. I then tried to uninstall the existing update software and this is prevented with a message "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed."
I found the previous installer file for 1.4.53en but I get the same message confirming that a newer version is already installed.
Can anyone help? How can I upgrade or remove this software?http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/download-software/nokia-pc-suites/how-to/nokia-pc-s...

Software Updates won't install when the macbook restarts
When I run the Software Update, it tells me the macbook must restart to install the updates, but it gets to the 'configuring installation' bit and then freezes. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks
Hi Elizabeth,
When your mac was downloading the updates (via software update) the package was corrupted. You need to download the specific package manually from:
www.apple.com/support/downloads/
If you post the specific update I will be able to point you to a download link (if you can't find it yourself).
If that fails then it's most likely a faulty Hard Drive, and you will need to take it into a repair centre for further testing. -
Software updates won't install
After downloading software updates, I can't get them to install. Any suggestions?
Exactly what happens when you try to install the updates? Are you getting any errors? If so, what do they say?
What updates are you trying to install?
How large is your HD AND how much space do you have left?
Please detail all you have done to resolve your issue. Need this information so that the users can avoid the "been there, done that" scenario type responses. This is to avoid repeating the troubleshooting you may have already tried. Thank you. For example, have you repaired permissions and/or restarted your computer?

Software updates won't install with multiple accounts
I'm using an iMac with multiple accounts. When I go to update software, the box comes up and lists the updates. Great. When I click install, it says it must restart in order to install the updates. Fine. But after it restarts it goes to the login page, and once I login, it seems to forget that it's in the midst of an install. I've tried this many times, from many other accounts.
How can I get it to follow through with the updates without getting stuck at the login page?
ThanksAre the apps installed in the main Applications folder or in each User's Applications folder? Apps installed in the root folder will be available for each user. Canon EOS Rebel XSi Software update won't install in Snow Leopard
I tried to install an update to Canon's EOS Rebel XSi camera software using downloaded images from the Canon website. Image loads, but when I start the installer I receive the error message "Don't have enough privileges to install. Log in as administrator and try again." I am logged in as the administrator and have no issues loading other programs or program updates. I tried installing the same software from DVD with the same results. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Sorry for the confusion. I'm new to the discussion thing and didn't update the entire profile from my last visit. I'm using a Mac Pro and am more concerned about not being able to install/update software because the program doesn't think I have admin privileges. I found the privilege thread in this section so that's where I posted the question.
I know the Canon software works in Snow Leopard because it's running on my laptop.
I'll try the Picasa software option you suggest. -
Internet Connect crash/Software Update won't open
I have a 500mhz G3 slot loading iMac running 10.3.9
About 2 weeks ago, after waking FrankenMac up from sleep mode, I noticed the Airport status symbol failed to appear in the menu bar (next to the volume/date&time etc).
Looking into my Network settings revealed that I was indeed still connected to the internet, via my Airport, all systems go. However, I noticed that "show airport status in menu bar" was unchecked, so I checked the box. Which apparently did jack squat b/c there's still no icon.
For the last couple weeks, as long as I've been connected to the internet, I could really give a flying flip about whether the airport status icon is there or not. I mean, seriously. I know this computer is a little old so why rock the boat on something trivial?
Until today. Today I was determined to figure out where the icon is, why it went away and if there are any other underlying problems.
I started first with Internet connect. Applications->Internet Connect, clicked on the purple IC button, only to have it launch in the dock, bounce once, then quit.

I attempted to open Software Update next to see if there was something critical (ha!) I might be missing. Apple menu->software update and it was a repeat performance of Internet Connect, except this time I wouldn't even get so much as the Software Update icon in the dock. The dock would move everything to the left, as if it was going to open, then....nothing.
*Software update was working as of 6/14*, when I updated (perhaps foolishly) to Quicktime 7.5.

This ridiculously long post boils down to 2 questions, really.
• Any ideas why Internet Connect and Software Update won't open and how to fix?
• Where in the world is my Airport status icon? (not that it matters since I'm connected to the internet, but doggone it!)
I've run Disk Utility, repaired permissions and the HD checks out fine. I'm just at a loss (not surprising, given my limited amount of fix-it-yerself knowledge)
Should I just put up, shut up and be grateful that these problems, while aggravating, aren't majorly disrupting my life?Okay no worries, can't find where to delete this post...

Software Update won't check for updates automatically
Hello
Since my update to Lion, the automated Software Update (Preferences -> Software Update) won't check automatically for updates, even if it's configurated to check daily. I can see this behaviour on different MacBooks with Lion.
If I check manually, I'll get all necessary updates - but not automatically.
Do you've an idea or the same issue?
Thanks & RegardsIf your logged in as Standard User it won't check.

Try re-indexing Spotlight.

If worse comes to worse, and it is in your Purchases tab, delete 1.0.3 and download it again. You might need to do Spotlight again. -

Itunes & software update won't download
I opened iTunes today and it said there is an update so I clicked Download.
When the App store opens, a couple old apps like Final Cut are still up there that also don't work as well as a new Software Update.
I hit Install All and nothing happened apart from an error message about Final Cut.
I restarted twice and still it's happening, although iTunes and Software updates won't show up.Did you try simply downloading the latest version of iTunes using the link below and then installing it on top of the older version?
